Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

You can't go wrong with this hostel if you're looking to party. There's always something going on each night, and the free beer from 7-8 PM gets everyone in the mood. The entire hostel is well maintained, all facilities were good. If you need to sleep early there's no need to worry, the music stops at midnight and everyone who still wants to party just heads out. I loved the choices for their free breakfast. The location is great too, it's right where all the action is. Close to lots of cheap bars and restaurants, and close to where the public bus drops you off from the airport. The staff were kind of a mixed bag though. Most of them were very helpful and friendly. Even via email they were prompt at answering any questions. Some though seemed to prioritize other guests based on gender or race or whatever. One time I came in late at night with a group of guys. I'm the only one who wasn't of a certain race and I was singled out. The security let the others pass through with no questions asked while he had to check my keys. twice i had to wait at the reception even though I was there before this group of girls. maybe I'm just overanalyzing things, i dunno.

A couple of things to note: it's a huge hostel. like all huge hostels it does get cliquey at times. It may not be the best choice for shy travelers. And as far as hostels in Hanoi go, it's on the more pricey side. I'm not saying it's overpriced. I think it's fairly priced. It's just that some cheaper options in Hanoi are just as good, if not better. There's also no kitchen facilities to cook your own meals. so travelers who are on a really tight budget and prefer to cook their own meals will be out of luck. Overall I did have fun at this hostel so I wouldn't mind staying here again.

Hey thanks for the review, It's awesome to hear that you had a fun time whilst staying with us and that you felt we keep the hostel well maintained and we were helpful in all your needs. It is never the intention of the security team to ever isolate someone but for security reason we always check all keys on return to the hostel after a certain time. As you stated we are a big hostel and the reason why we have nightly events is to try and stop anyone being cliquey and to bring everyone together. Throughout the year our prices fluctuate but our price includes free breakfast, free beer, free walking tour and nightly free pub crawls. As a hostel we provide a wide range of food with daily deals to try and help our guests save money whilst getting high quality food. We hope to have you stay again, Rob Towell Manager

The VBH downtown in Hanoi was our second stay in a VBH during our trip in Vietnam. Dorms and bathrooms are really clean. For party people there are many good activities and specials every day. Like free beer/beerpong/pubcrawl etc. The staff at the reception is very nice and helpful but the staff at the traveldesk really disappointed us. They were nice until you didn’t want to book their packages. The tours are way overpriced and you get a better consultation at the travel agencies next doors. One lady at the traveldesk started being really rude when we had a discussion about the best and cheapest way to go from Hanoi to Ninh Bình. Food and drinks at the hostel are overpriced for what you get. The free breakfast is a joke compared to other free breakfasts we had. Even for one banana they charge you 10.000 vnd. In the end we had the feeling that this hostel is the most money focused hostel we’ve ever been to.

Hi thanks for taking the time to leave a review, All reviews we receive good or bad help us to improve as a business. We are glad to hear that you felt the dorms and bathrooms are super clean and also you enjoyed the activities like our nightly events, free pub crawl, and free beer. It's also great that you felt our reception staff were really friendly. When it comes to travel in Vietnam we fully believe we have amazing tours and options to offer our guests that may not always be the cheapest but we believe in the quality of what we provide to make sure our guests have an amazing time whilst feeling safe and knowing that we will always be there to support them if any issues arise during their travels. If you would like to discuss your experience further please do not hesitate in getting in contact with me rob@vietnambackpackerhostels.com We wish you the best of all future travel. Myself and a couple of friends booked with this hostel (with their Castaways package) in February 2020 - spending over £320. Due to the Covid situation, we realised we weren't going to be able to make the Castaways, and consequently we cancelled all our travel bookings. Towards the end of May, the hostel seemed happy to help and said in WRITING the refund would be no problem and we would receive a full refund. 6 months and 5 chase emails later, the company has decided to give us the silent treatment instead of a refund. We've heard nothing off them for months, and now no one is answering their work phone.

They don't even have the decency to reply to our emails, leaving us completely in the dark and robbing us of our money. An absolute joke of a company, considering people praised about them so much. If you want complete uncertainty and a company who doesn't care for their customers, then go ahead and book with them.

We are sorry you feel tHis way, Covid was a tremendously difficult for us all, and in the Travel Industry, it was certainly no different, sadly hundreds of people lost their jobs and all our properties had to close due to immediate effect, we have since dealt with refunds post covid, when we have been capable of doing so having taken back staff, if you haven't already do contact us again in regards o your situation, we do care for our customers experience deeply and we hope you can forgive us for that hurdle we all had to cross.

Had a great time here. The reps (Eddie, Teddy and Neive) are really friendly and make you feel really welcome and ask if you want to get involved in the activities but don't pressure you if you don't want to. Great chill vibes all round. Rooms are clean and beds are comfy. Free beer (bottles!) from 5-6pm and various happy hour deals

You can probably go to the backpackers to book to cruise when you are there. There are heaps of dodge ones so be careful what you book. If you want the young people's (party) cruise make sure it's through the backpackers. Either via here website or in person at either of the hostels in Hanoi
