This is the best 3 star hotel in Bangkok. Ok, in a 3 star hotel you don't rave about the service, but there's nothing wrong with it here.
The Honey is in an ideal position on Soi 19 Sukhumvit. Quietly down the soi, and just three minutes walk from Asoke BTS, Sukhumvit MRT, and Robinsons with their lovely food hall in the basement. 30 Baht will get you a great meal here!
7/11 store is just a couple of doors away, and plenty of ATM machines down this soi.
There is a quiet comfortable bar just 3 doors away with delicious foreign food as well as the local cuisine.
The hotel itself is one of the older hotels. Don't expect a view from the windows because for these prices you won't get much.
There are 3 types of room; the cheapest room they don't advertise - you have to ask for it at 800 Baht. It's a standard unrefurbished room in the car park area with some noise.
The rest of the hotel is quiet and reasonably well decorated. Rooms are around 1100 Baht including two breakfasts. They also have larger (but not huge) and smarter rooms available at 1,500 Baht. If you're a non-smoker you must tell them as smokers seem to leave their odour in a majority of the rooms.
There is a small pool in front of the hotel separated from the pavement and road by a tall wall. A nice but not completely quiet area to relax in after venturing out into the city.
There is also a restaurant which serves foreign and local food at reasonable prices for a hotel restaurant.
I recommend it, and have stayed there many times. Ideal for singles, couples and families on a budget.
The hotel motto - 'Small enough to call home'.

As of the 31. December 2017 the Honey Hotel in Soi 19, Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok, will be closing down. We’re currently staying here at the end of October and none of the staff seem to know what’s going to become of the site.

My guess is it will be demolished, and some flash new apartments or a tall, expensive hotel will take its place.

For us it is quite sad, because we’ve been coming here for 16 years, and many other travellers have bene loyal visitors for more than 25 or 35 years. The Honey was originally built in 1954, so its seen much better days, but it was the never-changing permanence of the place that made it so endearing for us.

I guess we’ll have to start looking for a different hotel for our next trip, because we like Soi 19 with its coffee shop On Nineteen, The German Beer Garden restaurant, and its close proximity to Terminal 21, BTS Asok Station and MRT subway just around the corner. So far we haven’t found something that also has its own full restaurant where you can still get hot food at 12.30am in the morning…

So, goodbye Honey Hotel, you served as very well over the years, and you are part of our personal history. We’ll always remember your quaint, time-capsule qualities. You will be missed.

My Bangkok home! I’ve been visiting Bangkok since the mid-eighties, and have never stayed anywhere else. But the owner has died, and the inheritor has decided to sell to a property developer, who will close the hotel on 31 December 2017 (not 30 September as previously advised).

It isn’t a first class hotel, and doesn’t charge first class prices.

It is always very clean.

The reception staff speak excellent English and are very helpful. For example, they will change travellers’ cheques and currency, but will first advise you where you can get a better deal! (Round the corner in the Asoke Skytrain station).

It is the only budget hotel on Sukhumvit odd-side that has a swimming pool.

It is the only budget hotel on Sukhumvit odd-side that has a coffee shop that sells a wide range of first class Western and Thai meals. Nowhere else can I get porridge for breakfast and an omelette for dinner! Local Thai businesses hold their New Year office parties there, so it can’t be bad.

No other local budget hotel has such a wide range of rooms, from cheap to suite.

The only website is by a guest – you can’t use it to book your stay. The Honey has never needed to advertise. That’s the kind of hotel that it is.

Dave has been taking guests around in his Toyota Crown automatic (with air-con) ever since I can remember. He understands English, knows where everything is, and the best way to get there and back. When I ask “How much?”, he replies “One million baht”! His mate Lucky had to retire three years ago because of old age and ill health.

The downsides for me are:

No safes in the rooms – you have to use a deposit box in reception.
Slow wi-fi – by the standards of UK cities. But I have no problems down-loading videos – it just takes longer than at home.

Give it a try. It may be just “right” for you, as it has been for so very many other visitors down through all the years.

This hotel is not family friendly. I booked a room for myself, my wife and my daughter which I was told included breakfast which it did - one breakfast! We had to pay for any additional breakfasts. When we spoke to reception about the matter they were rude and refused to compromise. Basically they did not care. The manager had the same attitude.

The room was not clean. I was actually afraid to let my daughter walk on the carpet and the place was full of bar girls. Great I suppose if you are a single male but no good for families.

I have been to Thailand many times and know what to expect but at the very least when I am told includes breakfast I expect all guests to get something to eat. Needless to say I will not be staying there again.

My son died here last year, they didn't find him in his room for 10 days!!! In the police report the staff interviewed all had different stories. And worst of all personal belongings of my son money and belongings were missing when they arrived back in the U.K.!!!! I have emailed 100's of times and they won't even reply to answer my questions. My son died of natural causes. THINK VERY HARD BEFORE STAYING HERE !!!

every year from a child when we would go to thailand and visit family we would use The Honey hotel.... but the last time i visited we book 2rooms one for mum and aunt & me and hubby in the other, had to be on seperate floors as none available joining.. so understandably we were often in the halls back and forth.. the day before our last day i went back to my room first then ten mins later hubby followed as he walked up to the next floor he was grabbed by a couple of members of staff who started pulling at shoes, speaking to each other in thai (which hubby couldn't understand) and not letting him come back to the room. when he was finally able to make a break for it and made it to me all distressed and got me, i was able to go find out what was going on, one off the rooms in the center of the building had been burgled.. someone had climbed up the center of the building and climbed through the window leaving a trainer print on the bedding and stole camera etc... and the hotel staff thought that hubby's foot size was the same size and that he done it, i went absolutly livid!! to top it off i had police officers in my room going through my belongings lookimg for stolen items and a shoe to match the print. i demanded to see a manager who was not available till the morning
next morning when we were leaving. the manager still wasnt available. no good will. no apologies. wouldnt even talk to me over the phone. Im absolutly gutted with the way we were treated as i had good memories there as a child. Every year we visited there. NEVER EVER AGAIN.

BE WARNED IF YOU DO STAY THERE NEVER STAY IN ONE OF THE CENTER ROOMS AS YOU COULD GET ROBBED I REMEMBER IT HAPPENS QUITE OFTEN OVER THE YEARS STAYING THERE

We have used this hotel many times as my wife is thai, but okt 07 was the last one. When we were out for a late dinner the evening before we traveled home to Norway, out hotelroom was robbet, we lost mobile phones, gold, laptop, camera. The hotelemployees did'nt care, the hotelmanager did'nt care, and bangkokpolice did'nt care. We got us self a report to use for our travelinsurancecompany at home, that was all. The hotelmanager promised to send us a letter after the investigation was finshed, but we have not received anything.

It smells insidejob long way here!

I will advice everyone to stay away from this hotel, and for sure, we will never use it again.

I had a hard time finding their email address as it seems impossible to book it on any sites online. Finally, I have received an email from the Honey Hotel - therefore I share it with you here.

I stayed here at this hotel in the 70'ties for one year with my parents. Seeing the pictures here brings back some lovely memories. This is the reason why I insist to stay at the Honey Hotel again a few decades later........... 2 nights - just for old times' sake.........

Just back from Thailand, stayed the last three days in Bangkok. Honey Hotel was recomended us by a friend. I am sorry to say that the staff at the hotel can not be trustet. They were checking our room when we went out shopping the last day before we travelled home, they stealed a laptop and a camera from us, we had no time to go to the police og try check out what happened, we had to go to the airport. If you want to stay safe and dont get robbet, please thoose another hotel!!! It is old and dirty too.

Been here many times, but sadly this time will be my last unless they sort out the bugs that have infested this hotel. All three nights I saw bugs everywhere in my room and bathroom. I asked the receptionist to do something about it and he said they would spray the room whilst I was out. Either they didn't or the spray didn't work.

I'm not sure if that function is still available as they have carried out a small refurbishment. Cheapest rooms downstairs out the back are 900 bht and in the main hotel 1100 to 1200 bht including breakfast. I was there two weeks ago.
