A lovely 3-room guesthouse right on the river near Siriraj Hospital on the west bank of the Chao Praya river. A bit New Age minimalist chic in design [which is a welcome change from the chaos, concrete and gaudy decoration of the rest of BKK], but spotlessly clean and very comfortable. 2 of the rooms directly overlook the river, but we were never disturbed by the noise. The top room [Sunshine] is smaller and has a double bed; the lower room [River] has twins and is larger - it also has a private deck, whereas the large one outside Sunshine is shared. The third room [Moonlight] is medium sized and overlooks rooftops [not unpleasant].

The breakfasts are very nice indeed, and there's a fridge in each room, good air-con and basic satellite TV.

The owners speak good English, but they're not there much and the guys in Reception are extremely friendly and make a great omelette, but speak very little English indeed. I don't think this is a good place for inexperienced travellers. Anyone who's spent any time in the East, however, will find it wonderful!

The guesthouse is next door to the Patravadi theatre, and there's some music and drumming during the day, but this isn't disturbing and just adds to the atmosphere! The theatre has a decent cafe for lunch or a snack. 100 meters away there's the Supatra River House restaurant, which is an excellent and friendly Thai place.

The ferries from the nearby piers connect you quickly with anywhere you might want to go, but this is NOT a place that's very disability-friendly I'm afraid.

The Ibrik is hard to find, and only Thonburi taxidrivers seem to know it - print off the map in Thai from the Ibrik website, and we didn't have much trouble with taxis getting lost.

I just came across some photos of our stay in Bangkok, Railay, Ko Phi Phi, etc. which was just days before the tsunami. Some of the best memories of Bangkok are of our stay at the Ibrik. While there are cheaper places to say (our friends stayed elsewhere and wished they hadn’t) Bangkok is hectic and this was a fantastic place to wake up and come back and relax each day. I liked the convenient ferry across the river to the heart of Bangkok and the nice restaurants surrounding the resort. The woman who runs the place was incredibly helpful and sweet (as were most of the Thai people).
The rooms were a dream, exactly as you imagine when checking them out online. The deck over the river was a really nice touch to our morning breakfast (which was great), seriously...right over the river. We were lucky to have front row seats to the annual parade of lights where boats dress up and float past on the river. Friends came and joined us to watch the spectacle. We didn't expect this to be such a romantic time, it really made our stay in Bangkok even more incredible.
The only downfall is that it's hard to find. I recommend having the car pick you up at the airport if you can. Every time we tried to taxi back (do NOT try this if you are less than sober!) the driver tried to dump us somewhere random out of frustration. Make sure you have the resort phone number on you and directions/map to the hotel every time you leave. Now that I look back it kind of added to the excitement of Bangkok, but at the time it was a little frustrating.
I’ve stayed in some pretty spectacular hotels, but I just can't say enough nice things about this place. We were in Thailand for an adventure, not pampering, but we LOVED it!

Stayed at the Ibrik by the river a few weeks ago and it was very nice, stayed in the Sunshine room. This is on the first floor and looks out over the river, there is also a River room that is blow and still looks out over the river but is lower so might have a lot of river noise. The room was very nice and clean. We were the only guests there for the 3 days of our stay, but then it is the rainy season.
If you want to hop on the sky train from you hotel then this is not for you, but if you want to fel the real Bangkok then this is the place. Go right out of the hotel and walk though the market and you will get the taxi boat down the river to the Skytrain station. Go left out of the hotel and you will go though the fish market and get to the boat taxi that takes you across the river and to the Grand Place. Also if you want to go out on the evening then the river taxi's stop around 9ish. So you will need to get a taxi, if this is the case then get the directions in Thia from the reception as you will never find it other wise.
We had breakfest every day out on the veranda as can any of the rooms. So if you fancy an adventure then this is the place. NO 5* rabbit hutch where every is a number...

I will go again.

I had the pleasure to stay at the Ibrik by the River in Bangkok in late Feb and early March. It is a lovely 3 room resort right in the Chao Praya river. I booked the "River Room" which was excellent. There was a young man named Puchong who was there to help with anything I needed. He didn't speak any English but we seemed to manage just fine. He made me a great breakfast every morning. The feel of this "resort" is very Thai. It is in the heart of Thonburi which is a typical neighborhood. It sits directly on the river. You really feel the pulse of the city here but yet it was very relaxing. if you are looking for something different then this is your place. If you are looking for typical american high-rise hotel then book a Marriott. I really enjoyed it and would stay here again.

Please note: This review is for Ibrik in the City (they also have Ibrik on the River which I am sure is equally great.)

We have stayed at many hotels throughout the world is this is one of our favorites. There are only three rooms and there are very nice touches throughout (including breakfast served in your room which is included in the price.) The rooms are very large and each has a separate sitting area as well as a small balcony. The location is perfect with a 3 minute walk to the Sky Train. There is also a great spa about 10 min. walk as well and the restaurant next door is world class and one of the best in Bangkok. Book now if you are going to Bangkok!

We were priviledged to first stay at this gem shortly after its opening in 2004. So today when someone asked my advice on accommodation in Bangkok I jumped onto Tripadvisor so see how this very special little place is doing. I had mixed feelings when I saw its much lower than expected ranking. Firstly I thought it has gone to the dogs, then when I read the reviews and saw what the "complaints" were I thought to myself, thank goodness, the place is still the exact same. Its just that expectations were maybe too high after some reviews and readers not suited to this experience were dissapointed. Nevertheless one appreciates each reviewers honest opinion, what is important to one, is less so to another.
Ibrik has never claimed to be 5 star - but you get the 5 star location at the river, minutes from the top ranked tourist locations if you use the cheap local river ferries. You get the real "old" Bangkok experience without having to pay for a 5 star hotel. You learn to use quick and cheap river ferries to everywhere. Ferry connection to Sky train is a breeze as well. We did not have the budget to stay in a river view room in any of the hotels on the "right side" but here we found something much closer to the water with the most stunning views at Ibrik - just look at the photos.Even if I could afford a 5 star accross the river I would never have had this view and proximity to the river. Lots of restuarnts nearby - you just have to explore! Real Thai people living right next door, you see whole families at night making those suits people ordered from smart hotels, to be ready for the next day, you see the Thai family life. My criteria for chosing this paradise on the river was - where can I find a nice hotel room on the river in central tourist attraction area without paying the earth - and this is it!

We used a taxi organised by Ibrik management to collect us from the airport, thus he knew exactly where it was. After that, we never needed a taxi again, we used ferries, tuk-tuks and Skytrain.

I looked at todays price 3,500B - still a bagain, try to find similar accommodation at that price in Istanbul on the sea/river for instance. You must be joking..You also have to keep in mind that you pay first and foremost for location, location, location.

So I just want to say - Ibrik is only for adventourous, independant people who want to explore the real heart of Bangkok, who want to learn to utilise the local means of river transport, who want to stay where Thai locals stay, does not mind a few minor things like language barriers and standard size beds and appreciate a special place when they find it. Someone who wants the real Bangkok experience. If this is not you, then look elsewhere, the place is already fully booked most of the year anyway! Keep it free for those who appreciate its specialness.

Very nice little hotel by the river! A nice terrace with a great view, great breakfast was fixed at the time we wanted.

Nearby is a great restaurant (try the magic chicken) and a theatre school (note that you will hear drumming students practising in addition to the boats on the river).

Moreover, you can stroll over the local market which is hardly visited by farangs and make fantastic bargains.

Transportation by taxi is hard (you MUST take the directions and map provided on the web site, otherwise no driver will find the place), but we used the nearby river express which runs during the day and is a fantastic way to get around in Bangkok.

We went to have our little Chao Phraya mini adventure in early April 2015, Having been persuaded by the raving reviews of this hotel which we read on tripadvisor, we decided to book two nights' stay - the first night in Sunshine Room and the second night in Moonlight Room.

In terms of location, Ibrik is located right smack on the bank of Chao Phraya river, on Thonburi side. It is not near any BTS Station. So if you are staying at Ibrik and you are planning to go around sightseeing in Bangkok, you would have to take the tourist boat daily to cross to the other side, which may eat up on your time to get around and explore Bangkok. But if time is not a concern and if you're quite happy to spend a lot of time travelling on the river, then this would not pose a problem. Ibrik is about 10 minutes' walk (at a leisurely pace) from Wang Lang pier. Once you walk down the pier, you can see a Swensen's outlet on the right, you should then look for the nearest alley on the left side and head in that direction in order to reach Ibrik.

The surroundings are lively as this is also where Wang Lang market is situated - lots of stalls and little shops selling bric-a-bracs and plenty of street food as well. We found a halal stall just in front of Swensens selling tasty noodles and bread. There are also some restaurants and cafes to choose from as you walk on. There is a posh looking restaurant right next to Ibrik but we didn't check it out. At night, the walk back to the hotel may be a bit risky as the area is not too well lit, so practice caution especially if you are females not in the company of males.

The hotel itself - Ibrik's entrance is marked by a really small gate so be careful not to miss it! You then step inside and walk a narrow path which will lead you to the actual hotel building. Ibrik is a really small boutique hotel as it a two-storey building with just 3 rooms! It's really more like a small little house so your expectations should be matched to this - do not expect a big resort! The whole place is tastefully decorated with an authentic feel to it and there are nice touches to the place. The fact that they brew really great coffee is a plus point, you can just request for the coffee anytime during your stay and not just at breakfast. There is also a little cabinet of books in the lobby area and they allow you to borrow the books there to read during your stay. The staff are really friendly and polite and although their English is very minimal they do go out of their way to try and meet the needs of their guests. We had no problems at all with the service provided.

Now a review of the rooms:

Sunshine Room - this room is a delight mainly because you get to experience being right next to the river - you can just gaze out from the balcony looking at the waters and the boats and ferries that pass by. At night, the view is really amazing. The balcony is not private though, other guests can access the balcony from another entrance so make sure that you are aware of this. We were lucky in that only one other guest came to have a smoke on the balcony for a few minutes during our stay, and at other times we were left alone to enjoy the room and the view. Having said that, the Sunshine room, apart from the wonderful view and the nice deco, is really quite small for 2 persons, and we did feel cramped up in the room. We found that there was very little room to move around comfortably. The toilet has no bidet, which is not ideal for Muslims like us. We just had to find ways to make do. Bottom line is that when you are booking the Sunshine room, be aware that you are really paying for the view and the proximity to Chao Phraya river - that's where the luxury lies, not in the room itself.

Moonlight Room - on the second day, we shifted into the Moonlight Room which does not have the river view. This room overlooks the small little garden at the entrance of Ibrik where you can see some greenery and trailing plants. In terms of room size, Moonlight Room is more spacious and I felt less cramped there. There is also an open shower where you can enjoy a warm shower literally underneath the sky. Very rustic and we enjoyed the experience. Same case of there being no bidet in the toilet for Moonlight Room either.

Breakfast - every evening the hotel staff will ask their guests to fill out a form to indicate what they would like to have for breakfast the following morning. You can choose how your eggs are to be cooked and there is also a small selection of fruit juices and side dishes to choose from to enjoy with your toast and eggs. On the first morning, we had our breakfast on the balcony with full view of the river in the Sunshine room and on the second morning, we enjoyed breakfast on the balcony of the Moonlight room which overlooks the garden. Both were very nice experiences to have. The food was tasty and the coffee very very good. On both occasions, we were also given a plate of very fresh and sweet mangoes which I thought was really a nice touch.

Facilities - there's just the rooms really and a lounge area on the ground floor. No pool, no gym, no parking spot, nothing of the sort. So it's really a basic bed and breakfast more than anything else, with its own charm and quaint touches. Don't expect anything more.

Wifi was fair. We were able to stay connected most of the time.

Overall, the experience was enjoyable, although I did feel that we overpaid for the rooms. Would have felt that it was better value had the price been a bit cheaper. We didn't do much in the vicinity apart from browsing at the market. Apart from Wat Arun, which you can get to from Ibrik on foot for about 20 minutes or by taxi, all the other activities are mostly to be done on the other side of Chao Phraya. Having said that, it was really memorable and nice to have been in such proximity with the river, and in that respect we were satisfied. However for those who can afford to fork out more, you may be better off choosing one of the riverfront hotels on the other eastern side of Chao Phraya.

Arrived at midnight having arranged an airport pickup. Was a little worried when the driver could not find the place and had to use his cell phone to ask for directions. But it all worked out. We had the room right on the river. Could not have asked for anything better. Excellent breakfast of fresh fruit and coffee. The river traffic provided a constant show. Easy walking distance to the river taxi station at Wang Lang and therefore the rest of Bangkok. Would go back in a flash.

Incomparable location. The River Room (with two beds) had an amazing balcony from which you could practically touch the river. The views of the grand palace and wat arun from the balcony were fantastic as well. Breakfast on our own balcony was a great experience.

Staying on the "other" side has pluses and minuses. It's very convenient to the main tourist sites (there is a ferry stop steps away), but not so convenient to some of the shopping and nightlife, and cabbies are not going to easily find the return route (though the map on the hotel website was good).

Service was quite good--I left my power adapter in the room and they delivered it to another hotel after I had checked out. But being a small hotel (3 rooms), there isn't quite the level of completeness that a larger, more 'professional' place may have (bathtub, though beautiful, was missing a stopper).

Great for couples, I would say, who want to max out on atmosphere and don't need to spend too much time in the more urban areas of BKK.

Dear traveller, I think it is best you address the hotel owners directly. They are very kind and honest. My visit was over six months ago, so I have no idea how far works have progressed or if they are complete. All the best

Hi, what would you like to know about this accommodation? IS it an all- inclusive resort?
Bangkok, Thailand
Hello Mr. Tyrone357, Thank you for your message. Should you mean the breakfast, yes, we have both the breakfast inclusive and exclusive rate. Please feel free to contact us for any further query. Thank you. Best Regards, Ibrik Team

Dear Ms. Indah, Thank you for your kind message. To get to our hotel from Suvarnabhumi International Airport we may recommend you to use the airport taxi service ; - Taxi counter at 1st floor entrance 4 and 7 - Service available 24 hrs. - Taxi fare approximately 350 Baht (exclude 50 Baht surcharge from airport taxi service and 100 Baht express way fees) ,distance from Suvarnabhum International Airport to Ibrik is about 38 Kms and would take 1-1.5 hours depending on the traffic condition. There are many ways to reach the grand palace , boat service is also one of the good choice. You may take the service boat , the pier is just 5 minute from the hotel. Please visit our website for more information and special offer at "ibrikresort". We look forward to welcoming you soon. Thank you. Best Regards, Ibrik by the river.
