Standard room. Quiet clean hotel.
Right in the middle of markets and avenues famous for bars and shows. When that gets too much, retire to the hotel pool area. GREAT pool under the frangipani tree. Always an attendant on hand with cold water or a towel.
All the staff here are lovely.
I had two stays in Bangkok. First here, and then closer to Khao San Road near the Palace etc.
I truely preferred this area. Better street food. Kinder people.
Don't get me wrong...a tourist is a tourist is a wallet...but I was much more comfortable here than over near the river. I think being at The Rose made my stay infinitely easier.

Second time at The Rose Hotel. A bit dated and small rooms, but can’t beat the location. Near the Night Market and close to the BTS for easy access to the rest of Bangkok and the river ferry. Only one small elevator (4 pax) so be prepared to walk up flights if you don’t have patience to wait your turn. Never used the pool but it looks Ok. But it works for me so I would go back at that price point.

From the outside the hotel looks, at best, very ordinary and the lane that leads to it is not great either. However, walk through the entrance and there is a very pleasant lobby and restaurant. The reception staff are efficient. The room was very clean with good furnishing albeit slightly small. The bathroom was spotless with good fittings. The location is excellent for the skytrain, shops and restaurants and the room rates are very reasonable. There are no facilities like swimming pools so if that is what is wanted avoid this hotel but I wanted a clean and convenient hotel and this was certainly that.

The accommodation would and should have rated an excellent, but problems with the showers in each room I stayed in meant that adjusting water temperature was impossible. It meant one either had a cold shower or a very very hot shower. That they apprently dont know this tells me that I am the only person to complain, or they know and are avoiding the issue. A suggestion that the hotel might be wasting money overheating the water was beyond their comprehension.

Check out systems are very old fashioned, the final bill is simply a one page tally of charges without individual items being listed ar attached as supporting documentation. This complaint was echoed by the guest adjacent to me as we both checekd out together, The staff had to spend another 6 minutes chasing the various paperwork to prove their charges. and a similar amount of time with the other guest. Just as well nobdy else was checking out with us, or the system would have collapsed Their front desk operates in a time warp and although friendly their staff need some professional help on updated and standard front office systems. An example of how much help is needed might be shown by the fact that neither shift has a book listing notes and items to follow up on to pass to the next shift. So if you hit the early shift with a problem, the staff have no instruction to pass these details to the next shift, no handover book. Hardly rocket science, but its never been an instruction to the front desk.

They also have a bizarre policy for operation of their business centre computers And one of the two computers was OOO all the time I was there, with no repair requested. Lots of apologies but no action, very Thai I have discovered. The payment policy is designed to irritate. The computer charges are in 30min segments. I can understand, even though I do not approve the decision, of charging a minimum of 30mins to hotel guests needing to use the computer, but what business brain decided the charges should continue in the same way after the first 30mins. Surely after paying a premium, which is accepted in hotels, for computer access, after the 30mins is up, is it too much to ask the reception desk to charge by the minute?

And last and least, because I had no expectations, breakfast sucks big time. Ask for western dishes, eg poached egg and it becomes apparent that its not the English translation the staff are confused over, its culinary training they dont have. They have never seen a poached egg, and after they tried to cook it, I was of the same opinion, I didn't want to see it either. Fortunately a Starbucks is just around the corner. Just accept that cooked western breakfasts are not menu items they have any profficiency in. Tea that has been sitting on a cona jug on a heater for a couple of hours prior to serving, well its not my idea of heaven, but of course, the ladies all smile when you ask them for a fresh brew. And give you tepid water with a tea bag instead. Hospitality trainers are desperately needed to raise the benchmark in this hotel. It's already good, but with some extra help it could be devastaing.

Please check my rating, I have expectations which I consider normal and not excessive and in most instances the hotel met these standards. Staff are polite, the rooms are clean, efficiently serviced, the hotel is secure, brilliant position and excellent value for money. I will return, hopefully not as the customer from hell. The above irritations are simply that and they are things I can deal with.

I am confused on one point though, their website lists a swimming pool as one of the facilities, yet when I asked the staff where this was, I was told they didn't have a pool.

Rose Hotel's location is perfect - located in the heart of a lively district with restaurants, bars, nightlife, shopping, public transportation but just one block behind the busy street so you get all of this without and of the noise. The property has two hotels, two restaurants/bars, and a great shared pool area. I was traveling with a friend and the two of us had different budgets. He wanted luxury and decided to stay at the Rose Residence - an upscale boutique hotel. I wanted value, so I stayed at the Rose Hotel. Yes, the hotel is a little dated but it is spotless, the bed was great, the curtains blocked out all the light and I got some of the best sleep I had in months.
The food is amazing! I consider myself a foodie, an empirical chef and I'm vegan. They made food for me that wasn't even on the menu to accommodate me being vegan and it was incredible. Plus there is a great happy hour including their own specialty cocktails.
When traveling I believe that the staff is a hotel's greatest attribute and the staff here is extremely friendly, they learn your name and what you like, these touches make you feel at home. Employees are always a reflection of their bosses. I also had the opportunity to meet and speak with the brothers who run the hotel and it became clear to me as to why the staff is so great.
I would (and actually am) stay there again. I have a day and a half layover in Bangkok coming up and have reserved for a second time at Rose Hotel. My stay was well worth the value. Two thumbs up from me.

As an 'old timer' having stayed at the Rose almost every year over the last 20 or so years, I'm afraid their new revamped look might be encouraging, but service has plummeted.

First of all they screwed up my reservation, which was made by a friend staying at the hotel a few days prior to my arrival. He went to the front desk and made the reservation. When I arrived late at night they said they had no knowledge of any such reservation? My friend was not amused, they apologised, smiled and that was the end of it.

I asked for a room on the 5th floor at the rear of the hotel as it is quieter there. I got a room on the 3rd floor with two beds when I asked for a double bed (their standard single room). Because they had 'lost' my reservation they claimed this was the only room they had left. It was dirty and smelly. There was a strong smell of urine from the bathroom. However, I had little choice but to bear it for the night.

The next morning they showed me a room on the 4th floor, but it was non smoking. I was happy to make the sacrifice and the room looked nice. I took it. However, shortly after doing the deal, the lady at the front office rescinded the offer saying it was already booked! She then took me up to a so-called 'executive' room and gave me the impression given the screw ups that she would upgrade me, but that wasn't to be. After showing me the room she said I could have it for a 200 baht discount, which was 1300 baht more than a single room! I declined her 'offer'.

She then offered me a room at the noisy front part of the hotel on the 6th floor. By all appearances the room looked nice and out of desperation I accepted it. It was only later when settling in that I realised it was located next to the pump room. The noise of the pump kicking in and out every 20 or so seconds was horrendous. The earplugs I had brought with me came in handy!

To make matters worse water pressure was virtually non existent. It was impossible to get the right mix with the shower. One was faced with taking a cold shower with a trickle of water or a scalding hot shower! There is not hot water in the basin, so forget about having a warm face wash! The front office informed me there is no hot water in the basins except for the 4th floor for some odd reason??

Then came the appaulling room service. I phoned down twice for a diet coke and a glass with ice. I was told to come down and fetch it myself as there was only one staff on duty at the HIP -the Rose restaurant. When I went down the lady serving was horrible, unfriendly and down right rude. She reminded me to bring back the glass!! I also overheard her say to her friend who was standing there that I was 'kee mow' - that means drunk according to my limited knowledge of Thai. I wouldn't mind so much but it was my first 'drink' of the day!!

Then the room maid threw out my mobile sim card, which had been in the same place on the dresser for 4 days. She said she thought it was rubbish? I was left with a non working mobile phone. No apologies forthcoming, just a smile and it was my fault for leaving it out.

Other things to watch out for: Bottled water. All hotels in Asia offer two free bottles of water a day. At the Rose they supply the cheap Singha bottled water. But I noticed there wasn't any in my room, but there were two bottles of more expensive water in the fridge. What I didn't realise until I checked out was they charged me for the water in the fridge, which I assumed was the free water given there was no water out in the room? When I told the front office there wasn't any free water in the room, they said there was??!! Guess it must have been under the bed! Anything to make a fast buck! Horrendous laundry charges. Always use the hotel form for your laundry and make sure you tick 'regular' service, otherwise you'll be hit a 50% surcharge for 'express' service. Never hand the laundry to the maid without the form! If you do, again you'll be hit for the 'express' service. Checking out: The bill is in the form of a calculator ticker tape. Nothing is identified, so make sure you can marry up the invoices to the chit they will hand you. Also beware of phone charges. They'll hit you for the max. Many hotels in Thailand offer local calls for free, but not the Rose. I made a two second call to the UK and was charged 90 baht (about £1.50).

On a final note, the hotel was refurbished about 18 months ago, and while this was welcomed at the time it appears sadly to be the case that it's had a negative affect in that service and friendliness has steadily gone down. They cater to tour groups these days (noticably Chinese and Japanese) and on comparing notes with other 'old timers' who've stayed there for years, they all agree that we've been largely been forgotten.

Room rates have risen sharply since the revamp and will no doubt continue given that the brand new Le Meridien has been built smack bang in front of the Rose. The owner will no doubt cash in on this. Overall thoughts: Over priced for the quality of hotel and services offered. While outwardly friendly, not as friendly and attentive as they used to be.. The only plus for the hotel is its location. As for me I will give the Rose a miss from now on.

Stayed 3 nights here, was satisfied.
Yes, the alleys around the hotel is skanky but there is a 7-11 and a very good seafood restaurant. The new Meridian hotel is smack right in front of it.
If you enjoy the nightlife, then this hotel is right for you. Condoms provided in rooms. Its that kinda hotel.
I stayed on level 6, but do take note their very small elevator reaches to level 5 only. Also, elevator makes slamming sounds some times but no problem as its never too loud to keep you up. I have my TV turned up most of the time anyway.
Note, TV reception not so good. They have CNN and a FRENCH channel though.
View from my room is terrible. Ugly rooftops all the way. Maybe I'll get a room facing different direction next time.
Service staff was great. I got extra pillows and blankets very quickly. Security guys very friendly.
Everything said about the pool and restaurant is true. Very nice.
I REALLY loved the location of this hotel. Massage parlours, night markets, street food vendors, patpong and the gay strip is right at your doorstep. And at such reasonable prices too. If you're travelling alone or with your partner, go for it. Not recommended for newlyweds and families with children though..

Was there for a weekend in Bangkok several weeks back, absolutely shocked. First and foremost, decided to fork out additional dosh for a more `decent' room, service and cosy environment etc... and went for the Executive suite (60-80% above the standard rate rooms).

i) Service - Non-existent. impolite and unfriendly.
Opted for two double beds during booking. Got a single room suite with a double bed. Spoke to the owner who effectively did a sorry, too bad and slammed down the phone!

ii) Room - Small, OK rate cleanliness. Toilets are only decent. Absolutely noisy from piping and elevator noises that goes on through the night and day. Single unit not-cooling airconditioning. Do not be fooled by the nice picture online.

Verdict: Even backpacking accommodation treats people friendlier. You're better off at such accommodation or just check into a standard hotel chain. So much for Thai friendliness. Total holiday spoiler.

All the best!

Service. Excellent. The staff knows me by now but they are very respectful of guests. I see many Thai and Chinese guests but fewer European. The English is not great but their attitude is. TIP: Take a picture if you have an issue. Want an extra pillow - just take a picture and show them I notice over the years the English has gotten better
It is close to Skytrain. TIP: if in BKK more than 2 days get a skytrain card. Save a lot of time. TIP. If in a rush give the tuck tuck driver 50 Baht and say Sala Daeng. It’s a 10 minute walk or one minute tuk tuk ride.
The guys sitting around on motorbikes with colored vests are sometimes called “Bangkok helicopter” as they are the only way to get somewhere quickly. Obviously one person, do so at your own risk and insist on a helmet. Ask price ahead of time and use hand signs to say don’t go to fast.
The rooms are aging a bit but the beds are comfortable. The pool is better than the Meridien next door. There is negligible crime in the area,. Interestingly many of the police are in plain clothes so you never notice them.
The amenities are like a Motel 6 in the US. I have never turned the TV on. There is nothing on the TV that can compare to just looking around the neighborhood.
The wi fi is fine and free.
The most interesting aspect of the hotel is the original art which lines the walls on all floors. Take a half hour and just look at what is hanging there. It’s not decoration it is a beautiful art collection.

Sorry, I responded incorrectly assuming another hotel. Rose hotel did not provide a kettle. As a general rule, three star hotels in Bangkok do not provide a hair dryer. I stayed at this hotel some time ago. I cannot be sure of the hair dryer. Most likely they do nor provide a hair dryer. You get what you pay for as we all know.

I am not sure. Best thing is to ask the question directly from the hotel.

Hi Phillip, Yes the rooms have safes. Fresh towels are provided at the pool. I can’t remember exactly how deep the pool was but roughly about 1m to 1.8 I think. We enjoyed our stay here
