Pertaining to the title of my review, I have never had any issue with that because I knew about it, but for travelers who just landed and with no or not enough in THB would present a challenge, especially if arriving at night and or tried to save your THB for some street food.
Love the new layout of the front desk, it makes the guests feel more welcoming and personal.
Glad there was no sight of that little green leaf in informing the housekeepers whether the bedsheet needs to be changed or not.
Wifi is still pretty weak.
The negative part was the welcoming drink, it was just a 1 1/2 ounce of heave-surgery fruit punch to which the hotel could go without such amenity despite there was an option for upgrading. What about a little fresh orange juice. Speaking for most travelers, the first thing we want to do is to get into a hot shower and jump into a comfy bed, not sipping in the surgery drink!
I will definitely go back next year, it has the best location by far!

Stayed at Hotel Royal Bangkok for 10 days in November.
The location of the hotel could not be better. I am all for street dining and stepping out of the hotel, you walk right into all the street kitchens. A new one to try for each lunch and dinner.
Also the hotel is walking distance from Sampeng lane which my husband found very convenient.
The room was a little dark and we tried the breakfast buffet one time and found it was a little expensive and disappointing.
The rooftop pool might be a little too cold and not quite enough sun beds for all its guests.
Otherwise the service was good, the room clean and, once again, perfect location.

I stayed here as part of a group. This is right in the middle of Chinatown. No need to taxi anywhere a subway is close by. Breakfast was a good selection. Hotel staff very helpful. A lovely rooftop bar and swimming pool, so good views of Bangkok. Reasonable prices. Toiletries supplies on a daily basis along with a bottle of water. If your in Bangkok a good place to stay

Wasn't what we expected after checking reviews and youtube about this hotel.
Room 705 on the 7th floor was not clean and definitely needed renovating. Small bathroom with door opening to the inside, in front of the sink and also not really clean. We had to get our own toiletpaper because after the first night the room wasn't cleaned or towels replaced, we did leave the room late about 2pm but I've stayed in many hotels and they would also still clean in the afternoon after you left. Only possitive is the rooftop bar with swimming pool and the view from there at sunset.
We will ad some photos from the room, I think they will say enough.

Great location for experiencing Chinatown, which we loved. Hotel seems to be relatively recently renovated but still feels a bit dated. Rooms are ok, not too small, but quite dark and not the best quality. Nice but very small rooftop pool with 12-15 sun chairs, a pool bar and a stunning view of Bangkok. Pool cleanliness seemed a bit so so. Sun chairs are a bit hard to get as it is a quite large hotel with many guests. There are no mattresses on the sun chairs any longer (as on the hotel photos). Pool bar is as expected overpriced (190 THB for a quite small draft beer). Breakfast is efficient with ok selection, but not more than that. Service is in general efficient but perhaps not the best of the renowned Thai smile hospitality. Given the location and the rooftop view, the price is ok but not more than that. Oh, another plus is the short walk (4-5 min) to the MRT Wat Mongkon station making it easy to explore Bangkok.

We stayed here for 2 nights whilst in Bangkok. We had a one bedroom apartment and our 3 children slept in the lounge there was a bit of a mix up on our booking and although we did have to pay extra the staff were so helpful and friendly we never had any staff be rude to us they were so friendly. The pool is lovely and views are great in daytime and at night. There’s lots of places to eat in china town but often got taxis out to places. One thing to note is all the taxis said 200bht wherever we went so we soon realised we could get it cheaper and it would be around 150bht for 20 minute ride. Thana Way was the valet who was super helpful and even at the last minute got us a tuk tuk from hotel to the station he was a real gem and so lovely! The rooms are basic but very clean and for a stop over didn’t bother us as it was what we needed and who goes away to spend time in room? Thankyou hotel royal we had a great time!

Great hotel, rooms are spacious, spotless and quite despite being in a busy area, could not hear the street traffic or noise from other rooms.
Roof top pool and bar are great for an afternoon cool down.
Out the front is the Chinatown night market with lots of great food to try.
Would definitely recommend this hotel.

I stayed here in late Oct 22 weekend in room with double beds with breakfast for 2 for about 1600฿/n inclusive.
It is a nice upscale midline hotel with many chinese and tourists, large lobby, 3 elevators, small rooftop pool & exercise room w machines & free weights. Larger rooms with many(13) light switches but poor bathroom lighting, Very Firm Beds, micro-fridge, tv w hdmi, roomkey electric cutoff switch, no microwave. Buffet breakfast was very good with many selections at around 300฿/prsn. Views are good but it is shabby rooftops & buildings all about in chinatown. MRT subway is about 1.5 blocks away.
MANY small shops with mostly foods and street malls. At night shops close and street food vendors clog the sidewalks along with the crowds into the first lane of the road. Advice: Take a backpack and 3 empty bags (don't try a suitcase with rollers as it gets too tight). Walk and sightsee in the morning (hot afternoons!), eat then shop the A/C malls in the afternoon, rest, enjoy the street at night.

They have extremely limited parking, which they did not notify in advanced. No where does it say you need to "book" a parking space. Then either you are forced to park kilometers away for 300 baht a night or they will cancel your booking.

Bad service.

Very clean, modern hotel in the centre of Chinatown. We stayed here as part of a G Adventures tour. You can’t beat the location - only a few minutes walk to the nearest subway station, and located on the prime street- food street. Breakfast was great, with lots of options, and the rooftop pool view was awesome!
