Shangri-La Bangkok is often celebrated for its grandeur and luxurious atmosphere, complete with a majestic lobby and enchanting live music. Guests have called out the spacious rooms with breathtaking river views, despite some feeling they could benefit from modernization. The hotel's riverside location is not only scenic but also conveniently situated for transportation and local attractions.
While the overall cleanliness and comprehensive amenities, including the opulent pool, receive high marks, service quality can sometimes be inconsistent. Opinions on value vary, with some guests highlighting the worth of certain packages despite a few grumbles about outdated features and extra charges.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed here a year ago for a few days and it was our first choice when returning for a week over the New Year period. There are cheaper places in Bangkok but there are also more expensive hotels as well. We all have our own pain threshold when it comes to price so I will leave it up to you to decided on value for money.
We stayed in a suite (1601) which allowed access to the Horizon lounge for breakfast, afternoon tea (2.30-4.30) and evening drinks and nibbles (5.30-7.30). The breakfast in particular is great with fantastic views over the river and a decent choice of eggs or french toast along with a buffet of cereals, fruit, cold cuts, warm food, pastries and so on. You could opt to take breakfast in the main restaurant which will no doubt offer a wider choice but we stuck with the Horizon lounge. Maybe next time we'll venture downstairs.
The room its self was a good size with bedroom, sitting room in which we had a fold away bed, a large bathroom and entrance lobby / hallway. The room was cleaned well each day, amenities refreshed and there was a nightly turn down service. I'm not sure what more you could ask for from a hotel room.
Staff were all very friendly. The hotel accommodated a late flight by offering late checkout until 2.00pm and then use of the fitness shower facilities. In the end we checked out mid day, had an afternoon at the floating market then came back for dinner and a late shower. Luggage was looked after, concierge staff most accommodating and the gym shower / changing facilities were excellent. They also arranged a large taxi to take us to the airport for little more than the metered fare plus tolls.
Location wise the hotel is spot on. The Sapan Taksin BTS station is just outside the Krungthep wing entrance as is the river boat jetty so you will have no issues getting around. Taxis are of course freely available from the hotel lobby with staff ensuring they know where you're going. There is also a bespoke hourly ferry service directly form the hotel to the Icon Siam shopping centre. This proved invaluable on New Years Eve when the main service was extremely busy.
There are a good number of decent restaurants within walking distance of the hotel, a couple of which are really excellent. There are also local massage shops if you fancy a cheap hours leg massage on the way back after dinner.
We loved our stay and will use the hotel again.
If you fancy a little walk from the hotel check out the Wat Yannawa temple a short stroll away. Something a little different.

We have stayed at the Shangri-La a number of times and keep returning for the reliable good service. This time we tried the Krungthep Wing.
Shangri-La car service in a Mercedes from the airport was swift and faultless.
The deluxe rooms have inclusive lounge benefits of breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails with hors d'oeuvres - very generous quantities and very high quality of both food and beverages. I would only comment that it's not possible to dune outdoors waterside, whereas the main wing you can.
The Krungthep Wing pool is smaller but quieter. We even saw a mid sized water monitor slip inside one of the naga fountains, as well as various birds. It is very handy for the river chaopraya express pier and the BTS SkyTrain as well as the free boat to IconSiam mall. A few minutes' walk is Robinson's department store which has a supermarket in the basement, also a local food court. So you can go luxury or local cuisine!
The room was typically beautiful and spacious with Thai silk accents plus a furnished balcony with a little bouganvillea and the fabulous river view.
It would be nice to be recognised as frequently returning guests, but service was friendly, polite and efficient.

Excellent location by Saphan Taksin, with superb transport links, situated right on the river which we warmly appreciated from the cooling swimming pool in addition to the balcony of our very pleasing room. I could sit and watch the bustling Chao Praya for hours.
Everything about the hotel is tasteful and comfortable whilst the service from the many accommodating hotel staff could barely be more attentive.
Breakfast, though expensive is a variegated experience which should not be missed.
Beers and snacks by the pool were not cheap either though the cost was pretty much what you would expect in an establishment such as this.
All staff wearing face masks and the regular temperature checks were a little unnerving at first but you get used to it and can see why they are doing it.
A classic hotel which is maintaining its standards , we would certainly return.

Originally booked into the Krungthep Wing which is an 8-minute walk from the main hotel...it is more quiet and closer to the ferry and BTS station than the main location. However we wanted the Horizon Club proximity not available in Krungthep so sought a suite at the Club. The Duty Manager (Ary - Sumrit) and Jom at the Club desk were most helpful in finding (last minute) an available suite for the remaining 4 nights of our stay, and did it with good humour and professionalism while making us feel special during the whole process. Kudos also to Fern (Club hostess) who went out of her way to help us locate the special limes and oranges served at the club, even checking with the chef where the best could be purchased outside the hotel. Yes, the location (cityside) is excellent, with easy access across the river if wanted, and the facilities first class (spa, restaurants and health club), but it is the people that seal the deal and because of them will bring us back again!

This is our second visit to this lovely riverside hotel and it didn’t disappoint. The location manages to be relaxing despite the busy boats and bustling activity on the river in fact it added to the atmosphere. It is a peaceful retreat from the madness of Bangkok With plenty of sun beds and both a quiet and family pool. We upgraded to lounge access and it was well worth it as we enjoyed lovely afternoon teas and a variety of food and cocktails in the beautiful Thai themed dining room. We will definitely return next time we visit Bangkok .

Thank you for your hospitality and attention to detail. Your hotel will also stand above the rest because your service is a priority. Every hotel is a commodity of rooms and food, but service is free and that makes customers return.
When you met us at the car when we were dropped at the airport and your hotel attendant took our baggage and directed us to our airlines, we were extremely impressed. Not only did she support our check-in process, but she waited and took us to the entrance of customs. Shangri-La you out did yourself and it will always be remembered in our book.
Thank you🙏

I have thoroughly enjoyed our stay here in Shangri-La Bangkok. The location is superb, with free boat transfers to IconSiam Mall from the hotel, and back via Sathorn Pier which is just a few steps away from the hotel. We chose to stay at the Horizon Club Floor in a Suite, and it was all worth it! The room was really spacious and clean. The breakfast selection at the Horizon Club is more than I expected, and they even change the menu everyday for the 3 mornings we were there. They were delicious and made a difference in our mornings cheering us up, getting us hyped for the day tours. The seating in that Horizon Club was superb, overlooking the Chao Phraya River. The afternoon snacks and evening canapés were excellent too. All of the staff who attended to us, Mae and Ju to name a few, were really attentive and caring. We enjoyed the lounge very much for the excellent views, great food selection and drinks, and courteous staff! We never encountered problems taking grab transportation from this hotel. I know Bangkok has a lot of hotels around, but I would definitely go back here again and again without second thoughts!

We fell in love with shangri l. We stayed at the krungthep wing. Our balcony was overlooking the river. The view was fabulous. The checkout was fast. The room it self is neat and clean. The breakfast was kind of limited but it was good quality and the breakfast room was overlooking the river in a astonishing view. The only setback that we had to go to the street looking for a taxi or tuktuk.
The grab application didn’t work out for me. The gps wasn’t working properly so they couldn’t get to the hotel and most drivers don’t speak English, and it always more expensive.
The hotel is located just by the pier. So you can take the boat to the temples and also by the Bts.
I definitely recommend the hotel. The view from the balcony is worth it.

I always fall in love with Shangri-La scented once step in at the lobby. In room welcome with sanitizer set, Bedroom area is very well maintenance, all wooden furnitures, decorations and floor not even single area make you feel oldish.
Due to current situation some area had been blocked, I may recommend to put proper signage in advance as first I had to parked in another building quite far. Another case I walked from Level 1 to BTS by following hotel signage but in the end the way temporary closed. However their staffs were very helpful and eager in their service.
Place is nice, foods are superb and excellent service.!!!

I stayed in Balcony Room from 26/12 to 29/12 and in Premier Room (1713) from 29/12 to 30/12, I have observed some areas for improvement:
For room 1713, there are 2 problems to the shower:
1. The water temperature always fluctuated at both shower and bathtub, sometimes it became too hot and too cold which it made us so difficult to bath the kids.
2. The water sprayed from the overhead shower in many directions due to the ageing of the shower.
For the breakfast buffet (at Next 2 cafe), I found it is a bit chaotic...:
1. Not all tables have salt and pepper (I ended up asking the staffs to find me the salt many times);
2. The seat covers were very dirty, I believe it is better to have them removed;
3. The tablewares were not clean, my daughter found half of her spoon were filled with rice on it. Possibly it was not replaced after the previous guest left.
Transportation to ICONSiam:
The hotel does not provide shuttle boat across the river similar to other hotels (Peninsula, Mandarin Oriental, Hilton, Sheraton etc...), all guests need to stuck into the very overcrowded public boat instead. And we need to take the public boat to Sathorn Pier and then walk back to Shangri-La Wing. This is very frustrating as we were expecting the hotel to provide shuttle boat between Next 2 Cafe pier and ICONSiam, not being stuck in the very crowned public boat and then spend 15 minutes walks from Krungthep Wing to Shangri-La Wing. As a 5 star hotel located next to the river, I found this is very embarrassing.

We stayed in the Krungthep wing from the 14th - 19th July 2023, others were also staying in the wing.
We had a balcony river view room.
The furnishings were looking dated, not shabby just tired.
The bedroom was a very large size, room for an armchair 2 seater couch and ottoman at the foot of the bed and it didn't feel cramped.
The bathroom was all original marble, huge and gorgeous!
The deluxe premier balcony room confirmed has a magnificent view of the river. The main wing is taller but you need to book horizon club rooms to be on the higher floor.
Deluxe balcony room does have river view but depending on the room allocation and orientation. Some stacks may not have 180° river view.
Alternatively, try the Krungthep wing river view rooms. It is guaranteed with 180° river view. However, K. wing is only 16 floors high. It's quieter as they have just reopened in May 2023. The rooms are quite dated but still posh and cosy.
Hope my answers helps! 😊
