Evergreen Laurel Hotel

68 88 Soi Sathon 6 Silom, Bang Rak, Bangkok 10500 Thailand
The Evergreen Laurel Hotel has been a lovely place to base a few days in Bangkok. All the great service you would expect in a quality Thai establishment. Well appointed rooms and excellent facilities. Nice cafe/restaurant with a very diverse buffet breakfast. Lovely cocktail bar. Close to train stations. We would definitely stay here again.

Nice 5 star hotel with very economic prices in low season located near Lumphini Park and business district; linked to Eva Air.

Check in no problem (arranged late check out for good rate), room card key system, 9th floor room large, comfortable bed, quiet, bay windows, big catering hot water jug, good room service menu, tv has enough channels, great desk for working on, good air con then separate shower and bath.

Can eat in at the Laurel Cafe downstairs 1st/ground floor all day good value menu, which also serves a very good breakfast inc. custom egg dishes, muesli, very good coffee, lots of fruit and baked items.

Also, Chinese restaurant on the 2nd floor that does dim sum lunchtime and a la carte in the evening. Lounge bar on ground floor too, with a long happy hour 2 for 1, makes for economic drink prices.

Location is good, in the business district, near Lumphini Park, then nearby is the pleasant tree lined Convent Road which includes Bangkok Hospital and St. Joseph’s Convent/School with many eateries and cafe/bars. If you turn right at the end into Silom Road there is a large and good shopping centre which includes a good English and other foreign language bookshop.

We loved loved loved this hotel. Our suite was absolutely BEAUTIFUL. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom had a tub and a separate shower. The front desk workers were pleasant and very helpful. I can't say enough good about our wonderful experience.
The hotel is in walking distance of the metro yet the hotel provides free drop off service to the metro stations.

We had a 5 night stay here in a superior suite and were very impressed by the size and elegance of the room & property. The room had all the facilities you could want (see hotel web site for details). It was large clean, comfortable and had good views over the adjacent city. However, being a large hotel breakfast can be somewhat hectic and the staff do not always understand what is required. It was difficult to get them to understand what an egg cup is. At breakfast there is a large variety of hot and cold food although, as usual, the coffee area can get very busy. One day we wanted to set off early and by request we were given a wonderful packed breakfast to take with us. The hotel is located not too far (walking distance) from BTS (skytrain) and MRT (underground) stations. Indeed we were able to access the airport by walking to Chong Nonsi BTS to connect with the Airport Express at Phaya Thai (via Siam) without negotiating any steps at all. There are some restaurants close by but not what I would call typical Thai restaurants.... but do try 'Hungry' adjacent to Chong Nonsi station. We enjoyed the live music by the musician at both the downstairs bar and the 'Wing' bar by the pool.

A four star resort that has seen a little ware but makes up for it in service, size and location. I reserved the superior corner suite and was pleasantly surprised upon entering at the massive size of the room. This room allowed for me to work independently from the sleeping area with a separate front room area. There was a bar as well as a kitchenette in the front of the room. Upon entering the bedroom you went through a large closet dressing area and into a spacious bathroom with a large shower and corner tub with large picture windows overlooking the city. The ware was seen in little areas such as carpet etc but not a deterrent from relaxation. Each time I entered the lobby I was greeted by staff who after 24 hours knew my room number and name. They would quickly get me a taxi, answer questions or seat me for breakfast. Breakfast was included in the cost of the room and had multiple choices from your traditional Thai breakfast to American breakfast. Each meal was served with fruit, bread and juice. Food was plentiful and tasted decent, it wasn’t mouth watering but a great way to start the day. The location of the hotel allowed for you to easily walk to some areas, get a free tuk tuk to the train stations, or most times a taxi was about 120bhat to anywhere within 30 minutes. It was 220 bhat for a taxi to the Don Mueng train station to catch my overnight train to Chiang Mai. Overall I was very happy with my accommodations and the service provided. They did a decent job dealing with the requirements for covid testing and quarantine, though I do not understand why I needed to change rooms for quarantine. Upon quarantining they brought you to your room, you were not given a key but required to stay there, in a much smaller quaint room, where food was delivered until your test results came back. This process took 6-8 hours each time.

I'm trying to be as fair as possible with this review, even though the hotel treated me really bad and I would never set foot here again.

First the good: The hotel is old but the interior is modern, and a lot of thought has been put into the details. The room was not super quiet, but clean and comfortable. The Chinese restaurant in the hotel is pretty good too.

Now the bad: Only at one point during my entire stay did I have hot water in the shower, and that was on the day I checked out. The rest of the time it was either cold or lukewarm, but never hot. As I told the front staff, another guest came and said the same. Reading the reviews of the property, many people have had the same issue. The staff acted like it was the first time they heard about this, even though it's obvious that this is a general problem with the hotel, and they have had this issue for a long time. You can probably imagine that not being able to take a hot shower, in a hotel you paid quite a lot to stay in, is pretty disappointing.

And the really bad: My flight was delayed, so I called on the day of the check-in, and asked if it was possible to move the booking until the next day. The reply was, sure that's no problem at all. Your booking has been moved one day, you can check in tomorrow. However, after staying one night, I was suddenly locked out of my room, and the very same person who took my call that day, demanded that I pay for one more night, in order to get into my room.

I called booking.com and explained the situation: That the hotel had clearly accepted the reservation change, but now demanded money for the night I had not stayed there. Customer service was terribly sorry, and called the hotel but they kept denying everything. Their reasoning was that I should have changed the booking via booking.com and not directly with them. Then why did they tell me that everything was fine, that my reservation had been changed, and why didn't they tell me to call booking.com instead? This felt to me incredibly dishonest.

The worst part was, that when I asked the staff why they hadn't told me to contact booking.com when I called them, the person wasn't able to come up with any sort of real explanation, but instead just kept repeating "No, cannot. No cannot", over and over again. Extremely frustrating.

To me it seems like the front desk staff made a mistake, and now he was in trouble. And instead of supporting his guest, the very person who he was supposed to help, and who indirectly pays his salary, he thought about himself first, denying everything and burning the customer at the same time.

Obviously I will never return to the Evergreen Laurel, when the same people who promise everything is alright, suddenly turn around and demand money from you, for a night you didn't even stay there. And I would suggest that you give this place a miss, to avoid a similar situation happening to you.

There are many more hotels in Bangkok that deserve your money and time much more than the Evergreen Laurel.

The room is more than adequate with a very large bath. Large walk in shower plus large tub and plenty of space for your bath products. We had a king bed and it was very comfortable. There is a rooftop pool on the third floor with a bar area that was not open during our stay. The pool was a regular afternoon spot for us after touring in the steamy weather. Everyone on staff throughout the hotel was very nice.
If I had to guess, this hotel was likely in its day a grand place to stay. It is still lovely, well kept and clean. But step outside into the craziness of the city and you are surrounded by tall glass skyscrapers and cranes building more of the same. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again based on service and accommodation but I’m not sure about walkable areas or convenience of that sort. We took cabs everywhere. Traffic is insane and walking is likely sometimes faster but the weather is unbearable and the rides are cheap.

As a solo lady traveller the Concierge were 100% top class ! Last night I decided to visit Patpong Night Market despite pouring rain and thunder restricting walking. Not a taxi anywhere. The Concierge chap on the door firstly used a taxi App and told me no, too expensive. I said can I get a Tuk Tuk ? He said no, too expensive and wet. In his very smart suit he then took an umbrella and dashed out to the busy main road where he stood in the pouring rain and thunder, waving to get me a metre taxi. An excellent service for a crazy lady going market shopping in the rain ! And the taxi was only 40 Baht. If you like Orient-Express style decor and real charm, this hotel is great value and excellent service. Recommended.

We stayed at the Evergreen Laurel hotel as part of a tour group. It was entirely satisfactory for our needs. Rooms were nicely appointed and comfortable. The only drawback was a lack of space to put clothes. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The bar was very nice, and well-stocked, but the bartender had limited knowledge of mixed drinks. He was, however, very friendly and willing to learn.

The good..
Decent value for money, well appointed rooms and clean, location is good although it’s a bit of a walk to the bts (totally manageable); generally obliging housekeeping staff;

The bad
Some would say the design is dated and ‘oldish’. Appeals to some. Hated by others. The reception staff really need to be improved. Very Cold demeanour, blank, unpro-active and unsmiling faces, wholly uncommunicative and not proficient in English, and lacking somewhat in initiative and EQ. The ladies in particular really need to raise their game. And we booked 3 separate rooms this trip, all suites, and have stayed there 3 times in the past 11 months. I mentioned to the Female manageress at the reception, and said any other restaurant would be welcoming an oft repeat visiting guest with a slightly more welcoming reception and at least recognise the guest . She said she knows I’ve stayed many times, and offered someone to speak to me the following day to get feedback. Well, in the whole week we stayed after that exchange, this never materialised. Slightly disappointing lip service. so don’t expect any warm and friendly welcomes and interactions. Apart from the elderly gentleman who is sometimes at the reception..Khun Phark (?) who deserves to be commended for the more positive and cheerfully helpful support he provided.

Take from the airport a taxi, but take care they switch on the taxi meter. Some starting to discuss but just reject, they will give up and 90% really nice and polite. Why not ask your tour operator whether they able to book one more night ? Usually they offer it and will organize it

They can arrange a taxi service from hotel to airport but I don't think from airport to hotel. In any case you can find a very efficient skytrain service (very cheap) or if you prefere a taxi meter service (expensive). Enjoy your Trip!
