The dusit Thani hotel is one of the great hotel in Bangkok. I have been there 3-4 times in a function. The service is good and clean. It is near by MRT and BTS. there is a lot parking area and always housefull too. I recommended to make function there.

Stayed here for five nights. Although it looks a bit tired and dated, this hotel exudes lots of old world charm and elegance. Staff at the front desk and concierge desk were polite and friendly. It will be torn down and rebuilt starting around April 2018.

We made the choice to stay at the Dusit Thani Hotel based on personal recommendations as well as TripAdvisor reviews. I made my reservation via the Dusit's web site - first signing up for their guest programme and then making a booking. I opted for one of the club room types as that included free breakfast which we felt alone was worth the additional charge.

I received an immediate email confirmation of our reservation along with some helpful information. As our arrival date approached I also received reminder emails as well. Our plans changed slightly requiring that we add an additional day to the end of our stay - we spent a total of six nights here departing on 25 Dec 2007. I emailed the hotel's reservation desk requesting an additional night and received a personal email within minutes with the confirmation and guarantee that they'd hold our room for our arrival (since I mentioned our flight was arriving at midnight).

Due to flight delays we actually didn't arrive at the hotel until after 2:00 AM. The cab from the airport cost a flat 400 baht including the late night surcharge and at that hour didn't take very long to get to the hotel. The hotel's main front entrance (one floor above ground level) was under renovation so we had to enter at the ground level and take the lift up to the lobby. During this late (early?!) hour there were staff (quietly) working in the lobby area including painting the ceiling. Hours later we walked through the lobby and there was no evidence of anything we observed in the early morning hours!

Check-in was friendly and efficient; normally at this hour many hotels typically don't have their best staff on the desk. But like all the Dusit staff we encountered even the folks there at 2AM were wonderful to us - very guest oriented. We were offered the option to upgrade to a suite for something like US $10 additional per night and we are glad we did. The accommodations included a separate living room and bedroom with pocket doors in-between. The bathroom was marvelous and amenities plentiful. One nice touch was the oil based incense burner which was refilled and lit each evening at turndown. There was a small (free) private safe in the dressing room that we utilised to keep passports and some $$$ during our stay. The desk had a number of outlets which support a variety of different plugs including central European and North American pin formats - no need for adapters here! (220 VAC 50 Hz) Internet was complimentary with download speed in excess of 1 mbps.

Our room was located on one of the sides that looks out over the elevated highway and Lumphini Park. We found the hotel location very convenient. Many visitors may opt to stay at one of the properties over on the river but we felt this was a better choice: it is quieter here and really easy to branch out to any destination. For example, hop on the BTS a few stops and you can be at Central Pier where you can take a river boat anywhere for 28 baht (less than US $1). Or a couple of stops in the other direction is Siam Square and many of the other large shopping malls. This is also where the BTS and metro (underground) lines cross - both are just metres from the front door of the hotel. You can use the entrance to the metro to walk under the street and reach the Lumphini Park. There's plenty of other things within walking distance of the hotel.

Our room included breakfast which was served in one of the hotel's restaurants. After identifying ourselves to the concierge the first morning each subsequent day we were greeted by name (by multiple people) - a nice touch. The food choices were beyond our expectation: a wide assortment of sliced meats, cheeses, fresh fruit (many of which we had never seen before), breads, cereals and pastries and a separate section with oriental foods. And for those with an appetite you could also order a cooked to order breakfast from an a-la-carte menu where you personally indicate what you'd like. Our breakfast schedule differed each day including some days being there at opening time and other days at the end of breakfast. Service and quality was consistent no matter what time we came and the one day we came late they actually let us know that service would be ending soon and wanted to know if they could get us anything more.

We enjoyed the use of the club lounge on a number of early evenings during our stay. As another reviewer noted the lounge does tend to fill up but we never had any problem finding a table for two. There was a good selection of beer, wine and other soft drinks all without cost or limit. A variety of finger food was also provided though it seemed like the demand at times exceeded the supply.

There are a number of restaurants and bars in the hotel. On the ground level the Dusit Gourmet (opening hours 0700-2200) has a great assortment of sweets ... and one evening I ordered up a late night sandwich which was custom made to my request. Prices were reasonable, too.

The concierge desk was busy but with good reason: these people are great! We organised a day trip out of Bangkok and even received hardcopy confirmation later in our room with our booking and schedule. Being our first time to Bangkok and Thailand the concierge folks helped make our stay and experience at lot nicer.

We were also given the opportunity to have the credit card charge upon checkout posted in our currency versus Thai baht. This saved some additional cost on our part as the card we used normally charges a fee for the foreign currency conversions (and the card exchange rates were not as favourable as what the hotel utilsed).

In summary, although this hotel is indeed +/- 36 years old (there is a large board showing the hotel construction and history in the lobby) neither our room or any other place in the hotel we visited really showed any evidence of its age. Beyond the building and location probably the best asset this property has is actually its staff. We'd gladly stay here again and would recommend it to others; for the best value you should consider selecting a room rate that includes the club lounge, breakfast, etc.

Were to begin with this one? It is the worst experience I have ever had in a hotel and a most unexpected one. We were due to stay in hotel for four nights as part of our honeymoon but left after two due to aggressive harassment by the duty manager. I am still in utter shock about the way they treated us. Please read on if you are thinking of staying at this hotel.

Let me start by saying I have stayed here before (and positively reviewed it) and had a very good experience. For that reason we wanted to stay here as part of our far east honeymoon. We had been informed before travel of "minor" damage to lobby but were promised it was only minor and if we decided to stay we would be "extremely" looked after. As part of honeymoon bonus we in writing were told we would get a free room upgrade. We had already paid for club room, which we had stayed in last time and loved, so we were looking forward to our stay.

From the word go things were not right. The "minor damage" is major. The vast majority of the lobby is a boarded up building site and was disappointing to see this. We were willing to overlook this as we didn't plan to spend much time there anyhow. The Italian restaurant is also closed and in a total mess.

It was in check in where problems began. We were shown to our room by a staff member with very poor English skills. Only rather than being a club room that we had paid for it was a deluxe room- the category below. Remember we were promised an upgrade not a down grade! I told her and showed her our booking and she insisted that was the correct room for us. She insisted we needed to pay more to get the club room. No manager was available and we were tired after flight so I agreed with the plan to speak to a manager in the morning. We were eventually shown to a club room although it was a much smaller version of the one we had stayed in previously.

In the morning I wrote a note for the duty manager explaining that we were unhappy about the lobby mess, the downgrade/lack of upgrade, having to pay more to get a room we had already paid for lack of any honeymoon treatment and that I felt they had not lived up to the promise to look after us well. We were told that someone would speak to us after breakfast but nothing happened so we went out for the day.

On return we had a note in room telling us to call reception in regards to our note. We did so and were told a duty manager would come to speak to us. Fantastic I thought, wrongly thinking he would fix things. Instead he was rude, aggressive, arrogant and began a campaign of harassment which resulted in us leaving the hotel. He even tried to continue this at our new hotel (lebua tower club).

The duty manager refused to accept we had been downgraded not upgraded, even when I showed him pictures on his own website and our booking confirmation. He refused to refund the extra charge to us on this basis. He became very arrogant and aggressive towards me when I explained we were disappointed with our treatment. I was persistent in my complaint but extremely polite to him (perhaps too polite) and eventually he made a pathetic token offer. This offer was not to remove charge or improve our room but to accept either a free lunch buffet (no use as we were busy out of hotel all day) or a free car to airport (again no use as we had aleady paid for one via our uk travel agent). I told him politely that neither of these were any use to us at which point he became even more rude, aggressive and condescending. He left giving us time to think over what in his words was "an extremely generous offer", and he told us (not asked) to accept one as that was all he would not make another one. He left us with the statement if we did not like things we could leave. I was absolutely stunned by how he had dealt with us.

After he left and his behaviour had sunk in I though- im not having this! This guy is ment to help us not behave like this. I called him back to the room and demanded a refund for having to pay extra for our room. He again refused and would not accept the very clear terms of our booking. He could not offer any explanation for why he was doing this. He smirked at me when I told him that this was our honeymoon and this episode was putting a real dampener on it. When he did that I told him we wanted to leave. I demanded he went to speak to his manager about our refund which he said he would do.

After a half hour he returned and said we could have the extra charge refunded and we should be happy about this. I responded by saying that we still wanted to leave due to his behaviour towards us, he again became aggressive and told me that he had given us an offer which we should accept. I told him that our experience was not what we reasonably expected and wanted to speak to our uk travel agent about this. Again he left.

We spoke to our uk agent via online chat and informed them about our experience in treatment. They were great and said they would help us get next two nights refunded and help us get a new hotel (we only wanted refund as we booked a new hotel online ourselves). Ten minutes later the duty manager phoned me demanding an explanation. He was extremely aggressive and demanded to know why we had not accepted his offer and thanked him for it! I was left speechless by his call, but did tell him to leave us alone for the night. I told him he was ruining our honeymoon and he laughed, yes laughed!

Straight away I told my agent about this and they relayed my message "leave us alone". He phoned us 3 times after this each time demanding aggressively to know why we were speaking to our agent. I refused any further communication with him and told him we would leave hotel in the morning. I have never felt so uncomfortable in any hotel in my like, nor would lie to do so again.

In the morning we went to check out and a different duty manager (a lady this time) spoke to us. She was very apologetic over the extra room charge and our treatment. As a gesture she removed a dinner charge and the room upgrade from our bill. I thought if only she had dealt with us last night we would not be leaving! I was worried about further harassment at check out and have to say this was a pleasant surprise.

The biggest shock was yet to come. The next evening the original duty manager from dusit phoned me at our new hotel. To say sorry? NO. He was phoning me to tell me that we was putting the room charge and dinner back on our bill and as he had my credit card details he would be charging me. his tone again was an aggressive and arrogant one. I told him I had signed a document at check out saying these were removed but he dismissed this and hung up on me.

I phoned him back and eventually I snapped. I told him if he charged my card for this I would report him personally for credit card fraud. He refused! I yelled at him down the phone to get it done, that he has ruining our honeymoon and to never call us again. I hang up on him. He tried to call us a further three times, but I got reception at lebua tower club to block his calls.

I am truly stunned by all off this. I really cant believe or understand the way he dealt with us. Up to me eventually shouting at him I was firm but very polite. I really looked forward to staying at the dusit however I would never stay there again, and I would urge anyone thinking off not to do so.

excluding our treatment here are other problems/issues:

1. lobby is a building site
2. many facilities including restaurants are closed.
3. club food/drink is way below standard of club facilities in other similar rated hotels
4. "superior rooms" in back tower are damp, dated and not five star. More like three.
5. Lower lobby area has significant damp problem. The smell is very strong and envelopes the somewhat deserted breakfast buffet location
6. There is no evidence of improving conditions at the "refurbished pool". It is too small and not of required standard.
7. food in club breakfast is not nice, weird tasting.
8. food in Vietnamese restaurant is poor.
9. the hotel feels like a ghost town, very quiet indeed and lacks any atmosphere (although the duty manager can add one if you like)
10. they do not air condition corridors in main tower building. As a result it is like walking through an oven. Clear evidence of cost cutting.
11. staff seem very disorganised and lack consistency. Many seem to lack basic English skills which can make basic communication for no Thai speakers very challenging.
12. Not only do you not get what you pay for, you might get less. And then face harassment for pointing that out.

My travel agent say they will seek an explanation for our treatment, but from our point of view it is too late. If the hotel has any sense they will fire this duty manager as his handling of the situation was worthy of the sack. Personally I would never stay there again and will make sure that anyone I know who visits Bangkok will stay in one of the many other nice five star properties.

PLEASE READ ONE OF MY MANY OTHER REVIEWS IF YOU THINK THE ABOVE IS AN UNWARRANTED MOAN.

Dear Sir, I was very concerned to read your letter and so pardon my delayed response as I needed to conduct my investigations personally. Thank you for taking the time to detail this. Firstly, please accept my most sincere apologies for the unpleasant incident that you have unfortunately experience during your stay with us, in particular, the indiscretion displayed by the duty manager concerned which in no way represents Dusit Thani standard of service. Stern measures have now been taken to ensure that our guests do not encounter the same incident in the future. On behalf of my team, once again, I would like to express our sincere apologies for what transpired. We will certainly review all of them for the improvement of our services and facilities. To this end, I would not want you to leave with this impression of Dusit Thani Bangkok so please allow us the opportunity to restore your faith in our hotel and give us the chance to provide you with the level of service and attention that we failed to do so this occasion, and experience the true Dusit hospitality. I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights and have to say the location is fantastic. Close to transportation and great markets. I was fortunate enough to stay in a Dusit Club Room which was brilliant. I was able to gain access to the Club Longe and Business Centre where there is room to relax in peace and take advantage of a few complimentary amenities/facilities. I would say the club room was of medium size but was nicely furnished and has loads of amenities. Probably a room more suited to the business traveller. The hotel is dated on the outside but has a glamorous lounge and bar inside. The staff were attentive and friendly. The pool is a little small but sufficient at quiter times of the day.

In summary; a great location, great staff and I would stay here again!

We stayed at the Dusit Thani for 6 nights. It was our first trip to Bangkok and were unsure of the best location to stay. We found the proximity to the sky train as a huge benefit. Being able to walk 200m from the front door to the station was great in reducing time outside in the heat. The room we stayed in was the club room which had been recent upgraded. The room size seemed small in comparison to other 4/5 star hotels – but it didn’t worry us that much. The club room seems to have been designed for the single businessman. The restaurants were ok value for hotel prices – but I would recommend wandering around the area for a cheaper restaurant. The nearby shopping centres all have food halls with a number of restaurants. Staff at the hotel were excellent friendly and attentive. Breakfast was typical American /European style – nothing that special in comparison to other hotels. The Royal Thai restaurant was a huge surprise and there set menu was decent value.

I am recently returned from a 3 night stay at the Dusit Thani.

Firstly let me say that I opted to stay in one of the Club Level Rooms as the price is not much more and is well worth the additional cost. These rooms have recently been completely refurbished. Decor is very stylish in the Thai minimilistic fashion. Rich chocolate silk drapes with pale grey wallpaper and crisp white bed linen. Rooms also include an LCD flat screen tv and excellent airconditioning.

A friend was staying in one of the normal rooms and I will admit that they are somewhat more basic but good value for money.

I like the older, established feel of the public areas of the hotel. Some restaurants have been totally upgraded and are most contemporary in their design.

The only area that needs improvement is the pool. The area is in need of a spruce up but it is still quite pleasant.

Having stayed at various locations in Bangkok, the postion of the Dusit in my opinion is better than being on the river frount where I have also stayed on several occasions.

There is a BTS Skytrain station right outside the hotel which if you know Bangkok is your lifeline to getting around efficiently and in comfort.

Enjoyed a 3 night stay at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Bangkok on the way to Koh Samui. With the sky train & metro right outside & the vibrant Patpong area minutes away the Dusit Thani Hotel is an ideal base for a short break in Bangkok. We had an executive room on the 14th floor, with a view over Lumphini Park, and enjoyed breakfast in the hotel with a good choice of food on offer.

If you are in Bangkok would definitely recommend eating at Cabbages & Condoms which is just off Sukhumvit Road – just 4 stops on the metro from Dusit Thani Hotel! – Great food, great atmosphere and supporting a good cause (profits support HIV & family planning projects).

Would without doubt stay at this hotel if in Bangkok again.

Afraid that we were very disappointed with this hotel. Have been to Bangkok several times and this was by far the worst hotel we have stayed in. Room quality was terrible - the grouting round the bath was filthy and looked most unhygenic. On check in we were given vouchers for breakfast - and then found out we had to pay exorbitant rates for their buffet when we checked out! A con!
Central location near to Patpong and Jim Thompson's shop.

I arrived with my partner at Dusit Thani Bangkok to stay for 3 nights. We chose the hotel for its long standing reputation and convenient location near Silom, hoping to soak in the party atmosphere during the New Year period.

(1) We found that the staff including the Duty Manager had little concern about guest safety and have done little to make guests feel welcome and at ease when we arrived on the 30th Dec in the evening.

After a horrifying taxi ride with driver Pairoj Kaewpankan plate no. V4269 from Don Muang airport, check-in clerk Sureeporn ignored and even defended the driver for holding us at ransom by destroying my taxi booking chit issued at the airport, turning the meter off and demanding a flat fee. I hadn't experienced this in the last 5 years since I've been coming to Bangkok.

Sureeporn said to us that customers usually have a choice to use the meter or negotiate. However, the airport procedure was to use the meter and we were not given a choice. I expressed that I was very concerned about safety, especially since it was my.partner's first time visiting Bangkok. No apology was given at check-in and she went on business as usual as we were both left shell shocked all the way to the room.

I then spoke with the duty manager that evening who showed no concern about making things right for the rest of my stay at Dusit Thani! He was only interested in telling me to go to the Tourist Police on my way out of this country at the Suvarnabhumi airport!

I find this treatment terribly disappointing from Dusit Thani as a grand hotel establishment in this region.

(2) We checked in quite late and turned in as soon as we could after dealing with that episode. However the next morning I found that I could not sleep due to the deep thumping and noise in the 8th floor coming from their boiler and air vents, which we had a lovely view of. A housekeeping lady came in to confirm the problem and the duty manager offered us two rooms. I thought his language was far too direct and not at all apologetic. He said rather loudly if I could change rooms immediately, and when I said later, he rather bluntly insisted in knowing when we could vacate our room.

(3) Having seen 2 standard rooms at this establishment and comparing with the Swissotel Nai Lert Park Bangkok where we stayed earlier, we found the rooms to be in shabby condition. The carpet was dirty, electric sockets were loose from the wall, air con was dirty and further worsened our allergies for dust and the overall size and quality rather disappointing.

(4) Service is overall below par and inconsistent. When we tried to exchange money to her smaller bills to tip the bellboy for helping us with our luggage, the concierge kept directing us to the check-in desks which were very busy. In the end we tipped more than we would have liked to, as we were running late.

(5) I wrote a note on the first night to the General Manager about the problems I found with the service. I have had no reply from him whatsoever.

This basically sums up my review and I don't think I would ever come to this hotel again! I wouldn't recommend this if you're LGBT and/or an Asian/Caucasian couple as this place feels to me that it reeks of intolerance and discrimination.

greetings. I was told the proposed shutting down process would only commence next year. Therefore I guess it will be sparkling around new year. Best thing to do just check with the hotel. Wish you happy vacations !!

Yes they do but it is very expensive compared to the services available at the airport. you can book all of them on line & they will meet & greet at a nominated spot. They also confirm your flight. Return trips are the most economic

There is a daily shuttle from the Dusit Thani Bangkok to the Dusit Thani Hua Hin, leaves at 1500, takes about 2 hours 30 mins, and the return leaves DT Hua Hin at 1115 . It is not complimentary, cost is 660 Thai Baht per person, each way, reasonable . It is hotel to hotel, so you do not have to transport your luggage across Bangkok .
