For 20 years, the grasslands of the Eastern Serengeti were closed to tourists to allow the cheetah population to replenish itself. Today, this is big-cat territory, where cheetah roam the area in pursuit of prey, and lion and leopard hunt undisturbed. In 2014, the region reopened with Asilia appointed as its custodian. Guests can enjoy this incredible corner of the Serengeti from the comfort of cool and elegant Namiri Plains. Expansive views, serious comfort, exceptional privacy and unrivalled sightings of apex predators in a region of the Serengeti come together to give you an exclusive and action-packed safari experience.

Property's Favourite Review
Namiri Plains was the third, and final, of the camps on our Tanzanian safari, and we had definitely kept the most luxurious to last. What a fabulous camp.
The journey from the air strip is about two hours, and the camp definitely feels like it is in the middle of nowhere.
The rooms are very spacious, with a huge, comfortable bed, a separate bathroom, with a shower overlooking the 'bush' and a bath on the private deck outside, which was an amazing experience in itself. Rooms were spotlessly clean, and had tea/coffee facilities, and a fridge.
All the staff were friendly and helpful, especially Innocent, who looked after us throughout, and Queen, who was a star when my wife was ill - nothing to do with Namiri by the way. Queen quickly arranged for my wife to speak to a nurse, and then a doctor, on the phone - on a Saturday evening, and by 11am the next day (Sunday) antibiotics had been 'flown in', and were delivered to our room! A serice, which makes you wonder why things are so much more difficult in the UK.
All the food wat the camp was superb, although despite regularly asking for smaller portions, we still felt that there was too mcuh on most occasions - something for camp management to consider.
As it was the dry season, there were fewer animals in the area, but our driver, Ngimba (I hope that is correct) was excellent at finding animals, including a beautiful serval on our first evening. We also saw a pride of four lionesses, with twelve cubs, very close, which was amazing. There were many other lion sightings, even a large rock python. On one morning, two male cheatahs were literally walking down the road towards our vehicle. We were also lucky enough to see a female cheetah, with three young (still fluffy) cubs eating a fresh kill.
We were so pleased that we had finished our safari at Namiri Plains, it had a wonderful 'restful' atmosphere, especially after the rush of Mara river crossings at our previous camp. We could not have asked for more from our Tanzanian safari, and would highly recommend Asilia camps to anybody lucky enough to travel to this part of the world.

Asilia Namiri Plains is an oasis of luxury in the Serengeti. Each tent – more a sturdy wooden construction with a fiber layer to keep you cool – has a view on the plains that is probably one of the best ways to wake up you can imagine. The sound of birds is included. The wife was pretty pleased to have a bath in the open air tub, while I preferred the long hot soapy shower. The bean bags on the terrace made me very lazy. Luckily designated host Frank surprised me with a refreshing Tanzanian style cocktail we’d randomly discussed earlier. A bottle of chilled white wine for the wife came with it. Appreciated, kaka!
Foodwise, the chefs at Namiri gave us by far the best culinary experience on our 8 days safari. Asante sana! (How do you manage to serve blue cheese in the middle of basically nowhere?)
I was proud to meet the hospital, skilled, cheerful and funny staff of Namiri (they better not find out it’s your birthday). In these difficult times it is important to keep the famous Tanzanian safari and hospitality branch alive. So, Hollywood actress, regular foreigner, resident expat or local: book now, while it is calm on the roads and peaceful in the plains.
Plus: camp fire chats; Frank’s cocktails like his ‘Vaccin’; tempting pool and deck chairs, limitless attention of staff; torch, walki-talki, horn and escorting askari (night guard) on call for your safety; monocular to watch the wild in front of the dining tent; impressive starry nights.
Our safari route, skilled Asilia driver guide Elisa included: 7 nights, flying in from Kilimanjaro, Ngorongo crater (2), Serengeti (Asilia Namiri Plains (1), Asilia Sayari(2)), Lake Natron (2).

We were touched by the hospitality, personalized service and attention to detail! As one of our first times to an Asilia Property, Namiri Plains and it’s staff out did themselves! The staff were attentive, food was delicious and they went out of their way to give us different experiences .. bush breakfast, sundowners on the rock, lunch by the pool. The camp itself is kept impeccably clean, very tastefully decorated and has beautiful views. Our guide Levard was indeed very special and knowledgeable! A really well run camp with excellent team work. Felt very spoilt.
In these COVID times, it was very reassuring to know that the camp takes high precautionary measures to ensure all their staff and guests remain safe and healthy! Asante Namiri!

We have been to Africa 11 times and this lodge and it’s staff rate among the top five we have ever visited. From the moment we were picked up at the airstrip until we left, we had an amazing adventure. (Thank you Piper & Heath for arranging this trip.)
Not to mention what a great time to visit Tanzania! Not many tourists so you virtually have the parks to yourself.
The lodge and rooms/tents are beautiful! Each lodge is nestled into the landscape to the point that you can’t see them until you are almost there. They have done a great job at blending into the landscape.
Food was plentiful and delicious. Kudos to the chief. Each meal was better than the last.
From the moment we arrived the staff knew our names and always addressed us accordingly. The staff immediately became like extended family. They anticipated our needs and joked with us as if they had known us for years.
Our guide for the 4 days we were there was incredibly talented and funny. Not only was he great at spotting and pointing out game and key features of the landscape but he was as excited to be sharing it with us as we were to be seeing it.
The lodge was very careful in following sound protocols for hygiene from the moment we jumped off the safari vehicle. Hand sanitizer and washing stations were alway available and encouraged. The staff was always wearing masks. We were in Tanzania for two weeks and we just got Covid tested this weekend and we were negative so everything they did worked to keep us safe.
While there we saw lots of lions, cheetahs, serval cats including the black one. We were fortunate to see multiple hunts by all three.
Certainly a trip of a lifetime!!!
If you can - now is the time to go to Tanzania!!! Get there before all the tourists return.

My Wife and I came to Namiri Plains after a three days stay at their sister camp in Sayari, we already had experienced a fabulous safari and stay at Sayari, and we could not imagine what would top that, but than we came to Namiri, and it was absolutely breath taking, the hospitality was fabulous, the managers ( Bryan and Baraka) were friendly, Hassan was exceptional taking care of our food and drinks, the food was exceptional (the Chef always made sure of the personal touches).
Manja!!!!!!!!!!!! ( we dont know what to say about him), well Manja was our guide, i believe he has binoculars in built in his eyes, he could spot things which were not easy to be spotted by naked eyes, an amazing safari experience!! Asante sana
overall, we highly recommend Namiri, especially due to their location, the hospitality, the food, the staff and all in all they make it special for you.
thank you

Our trip to Namiri Plains was magical. It is difficult to know where to begin in writing this review but I will try to go step by step. Our guide, Khalid was amazing. He made every effort to realise our dreams and desires during our games drives. We saw all we wanted to and more. The location of Namiri Plains was off the beaten track which made the place even more special as there would not be many vehicles on game drives. Fantastic!!!! Our accommodation was beautifully designed, clean and well appointed luxury in the bush with a panoramic view of the landscape. While lying in bed you hear wild life in the distance. The food was really yummy and super fresh. Dinners were communal which gave us an opportunity to meet our fellow travelers as well as the all the staff. This was great fun. It was wonderful to meet people from around the globe and some locals too. The service on all levels was outstanding. The entire staff made every effort to make our stay perfect and they did. Namiri Plains is truly safari heaven. Thank you.

This was our 2nd time staying with Asilia. The location is top notch and you can expect to see several species of animals just from the deck. A giraffe came very close to our tent, and we enjoyed listening to hippo sounds as we fell asleep each night. The service was unparalleled, and Edwin especially was an incredible server. I was feeling unwell one day and the chef prepared me dowa, a traditional healing beverage. The location deep in the center of the Masai Mara also ensured seclusion during our game drives, beautiful sunrises and sunsets every day, and the ability to see so many more animals than we thought possible. Antony was also a wonderful host, and our guide Francis was exceptionally knowledgeable and personable. Though expensive, staying with Asilia is worth every penny and we’d never consider another safari without them.

This was our 2nd visit to Namari Plains it did not disappoint. We have stayed previously with Asillia and the attention to detail is second to none. We were so looked after and allocated the best staff for our room Neema I will treasure the memory of my bubble bath and your notes you left, at the dinning tent Ellie I hope you get to guide one day and keep spotting the birds and of course our driver Anderson you spend alot of time with the guides and both times they have matched us with the most amazing passionate people. Thankyou Anderson for making this trip once again amazing. I shouldn't forget Queen either your sense of humour and enthusiasm in looking after your quests is so genuine. We love being in Tanzania and we love being in camps that are secluded where you don't see herds of other vehicles. I am alway astounded by the level of care all staff provide nothing is too much trouble. The chefs also deserve a special mention what they achieve is some of the best food we have eaten.
We love this place we feel so at home whoever sees this please say hello to everyone and a big thankyou. I left in tears once again as I did not want to leave. And please tell Anderson to get a map so that he doesn't get lost in the evenings (he knows our little joke). A million thankyous xx

Three nights at the lovely Namiri Plains “resort”. We did finally see our elusive leopard cubs on top of the rock! Another highlight was watching a cheetah mom and cub stalk a gazelle. the gazelle got away, but as they were watching mama caught a hare. She grudgingly shared with her cub. A relatively easy kill to watch.
Pros: common areas are beautiful! Recently renovated the lounge/bar is comfortable with the dining area has are smaller tables for breakfast and lunch and a long communal table for dinner with other guests and staff. Rooms/tents are luxurious with stone walls, wood plank ceiling, wood floor. Minibar and coffee/tea area. Seating area and desk. Bathroom completely separated with lovely rain shower, double sink and separately doored toilet. Lovely patio with big bathtub. All was covered with a rather futuristic canvas. Huge king bed and no need for mosquito netting as room is tightly sealed. The room has one large screened wall with sliding doors looking out onto a lovely vista.
Cons: roads are beyond terrible! Extremely bumpy, muddy and deeply rutted! multiple times we were either stuck or had to help others. Game was also very far and infrequent. We did see many animals including cubs but don’t go this time of year (early March) expecting to see volumes.

We finished up our time in Tz at Namiri Plains, another of Asilia’s luxury camps. Again, as at the other camps, service was top-notch from arrival to departure. We were greeted with the Jambo song, hands were washed, introductions made, and camp details outlined.
The only word to describe accommodation is luxurious. The “ tents” are spacious, well appointed, and the bathtub on the private deck was a welcome respite after the bumpy game drives which offer “ African free massage”.
All meals were delicious and beautifully presented. We appreciated the smaller dishes from which we helped ourselves, and the variety was always interesting and complementary. Asilia master chefs have developed the recipes which all the chefs use, and I was happy to have some of the butternut soup which I had enjoyed at the other camps.
Evenings around the “ bush television”, sundowners in hand, and sharing the day’s stories with other guests and staff were a daily highlight.
As many others have already said, it is the staff that keeps the standards high and makes this a wonderful camp. From management to Chef, everyone shows interest in the guests, treats them with kindness and politeness; this really is round the clock care.
Our game-driver and guide extraordinaire was Hawth. His knowledge of the animals, their behaviour, the eco-systems and the “ why and wherefore” were the topic of many discussions. We looked at various “ poops” and learned so much. We checked footprints to decide what animal, how many, adult or young, heading in which direction.
A big Asante Sana to the entire team for a most enjoyable stay, and for showing such excellent Tanzanian hospitality. Tutaonana baadaye.

Oh dear, my apologies, I just saw your question. I'm so sorry to have missed it!
Yes, there are other birds and animals at Namiri Plains, for sure, but not as much as at other properties. The real draw is/are the cheetah, which love the openness of the plains there. the landscape is very open for the most part, which makes it great for photography. There are some trees, where we had fabulous leopard sightings. For elephants we drove to another part of the park. It may also depend on the time of year you are there.
We had booked our stay at Namiri beforehand and were met at Kili airport by our guide. From there, after a couple nights visiting the Ngorogoro Crater and Lake Myanar, our guide drove us to an airstrip where we got a plane to Seronara (?) airstrip. We were met by our Namiri guide who drove us to Namiri Plains. 2 hour game drive to get there. Other folks got to Namiri by a long and bumpy road from the Ngorogoro Crater area.
Good luck!
