About

#42 of 172 Speciality lodging in Serengeti National Park
Located outside Serengeti National Park’s Ikoma Gate with endless views across the plains. Built of local materials and using solar power and hot water in the rooms, this lodge is unique to the area. Reception, lounge, bar and dining incorporate a natural rocky outcropping (kopje) into the design. Fifteen creatively designed large canvas rondavels reveal the romance of a tent with the security of a permanent structure. Each bathroom has an outdoor stone shower. Family rooms are in a ‘stone house’ with equally impressive views.

In the short time we were on the grounds, we felt unwelcome and the place also seemed a little shady. The tents looked a little unkempt and the ground weren't that impressive. We left for another accommodation.

We're very sorry you got a less than positive impression during your quick visit at Serengeti Simba Lodge. It seems you caught our staff unawares by dropping in unannounced. Although we are always open and happy to host drop-in visitors, most people give some advance notice. In contrast to the majority of our guests who experience our product and service and rate the lodge as excellent after staying with us, it's of course disappointing to get such negative feedback from someone who had a brief impression. We understand it's not pleasant to get a bad vibe. Thankfully these instances are rare for us. We hope you found the next place more to your liking.

I definitely highly recommend this place to everyone - you don't have to pay thousands of dollars a night to get great service in Serengeti :) I stayed at Simba Lodge for one night as a solo traveller and couldn't have felt more welcome and comfortable. Paul, especially, was such a gem! He was personable, funny and anticipated what I wanted before I even asked. The food is delicious (and there's tons of it!), the drinks are great and the room is beautiful and comfortable. I especially enjoyed the view over the wilderness from my room and the excellent outdoor shower. In the evening the staff lit a fire even though I was the only one there, which was very much appreciated. I was told that this hotel is also part of a management scheme (WMA) in which profits go directly back to the community to encourage them to set aside land for wildlife and benefit from conservation, which I love!!!!

Our visit to Serengeti Simba Lodge was one of the best experiences of my life. It truly felt like an escape to the wilderness! The beginning of our journey began with a blast! As we were ascending towards the lodge which is located on the mountainside, we were greeted by a group of elephants! As soon as we reached the lodge, we were welcomed with refreshing juices and warm towels. Following the COVID-19 precautions, all staff were wearing masks. Our temperatures were checked and we were required to sanitize our hands before entering the reservation area! We were welcomed by both the managers Kenneth and Bill, who were extremely friendly to us throughout our stay! This made us feel like we were at home! Once we entered the reservation area, what caught my eye was the beautiful view of the Serengeti plains. As I walked towards the deck, my eyes caught onto the sun kissed pool and I was immediately intrigued to jump right in! The tented room was incredible. The room was spacious and offered a view of the plains of Serengeti, as well as the Wildebeest Migration. What amazed me the most about the room was it's outside shower. This was an incredibly different experience which I highly recommend for future guests! The food was as delicious as it looked. My personal favourite was the tomato soup that I paired with warm buttery home-made bread. Furthermore, the coconut cake that we had for dessert was scrumptious. The staff was kind enough to bake another coconut cake for my trip back home! All in all, this was a true escape to the wilderness. At Serengeti Simba, we were able to experience what it truly means to be in the wild - from the incredible views to the outside showers - we were offered a unique experience. The food felt like home and the staff was incredibly welcoming! Highly recommended!

My family of 4 spent the last 3 nights of our 8 day safari at Serengeti Simba Lodge in January, 2021. The location is incredible. This eco lodge is literally built into the mountainside. The views are amazing. Our room was very clean and comfortable and the outdoor shower was wonderful! My two teenagers enjoyed the reliable Wi-Fi in the main lodge. Manager Bill and all of the staff were lovely to interact with. We especially enjoyed the food. Our boxed lunches, buffet breakfasts and dinners were the best we experienced of the three places we stayed.
