Detailed Reviews
First I will tell you I am an average traveler - I've stayed at a variety of hotels from the Ritz to Comfort Inns and everything in between. I'm pretty low maintenance and understand that most of the time it's just about having a place to shower and sleep... The Augusta Budget Inn ranks pretty low on the level of places I've stayed - but overall we managed to sleep well and shower, which was all we needed this weekend.
We were in town for the Ironman 70.3 - the motel's proximity to the race logistics (transition area, swim & bike start, run course, race expo) - were terrific. While my fiance was out doing his Ironman, I was able to walk to and from the room, get food and get to the run course to see him without the hassles of parking and driving around the city. It really helped to have a place to leave the car and a nearby 'home base' for all our gear.
The front desk staff were friendly and have a good sense of humor - we jokingly asked about the breakfast buffet and valet parking and they thought it was hysterical. We got our two room keys and a TV remote and that was that - quick and easy check-in.
The room smelled of stale (and probably fresh) cigarette smoke. It was pretty gross. I knew we'd get used to the smell, which we did by the 2nd day. So even though all our clothes need a good washing from being soaked in the stinky smell, we were able to tolerate the odor.
The sheets and towels were clean. The bathroom seemed clean enough. They provided basic bar soap. There's a small fridge and microwave in the room - both worked fine for our needs.
Hot water was great. The room was a decent size - again we had a lot of gear since we were there for the Ironman.
The walls and carpeting seemed really filthy. I am sure both need a good scrubbing - dingy, smoke saturated - and just dirty. I wore shoes the entire time in the room - a couple times walked around in socks and they got pretty dirty.
The mattress was OK - mattress pad had a cigarette burn mark - but otherwise seemed clean. My fiance slept well the night before his race which was important to us.
We had to ask for more towels the first morning, but that was no big deal.
So overall - I think if you are OK with a stinky, dingy place, you'll survive a stay at the Augusta Budget Inn. Just know the location is really ideal for being close to downtown - and set your expectations low for enjoying the room!

The ABI is in Olde Town. It is on "the other side of the tracks". It is three or four blocks from the jail. It is right off the highway. I would NEVER stay here with my wife or children. I would NEVER let my mother or sisters stay here. I would NEVER stay at this property except for the Masters. The drive from the ABI to Augusta National took all of 10 minutes, and was easy and safe. The hotel provided security guards in the parking lot during Masters week to keep out the local riff-raff and the ladies who surely frequent the property during the 51 other weeks of the year. ABI was full of golf fans from all over the world during my stay and we all pretty much had our doors open, lounging in the parking lot, drinking beers and exchanging stories. It was more like a college dorm or frat house than hotel.
Be warned, that the rooms are old. The beds are filthy (under clean sheets). The rooms offer very little in the way of security, but again during Masters week the property hired a security guard to watch out for locals overnight.
In summation, the ABI is a dump, but a great rate during Masters week. The ONE thing I would recommend to anyone staying here for Masters week or any week for that matter is to get a room in the middle of the property, not at the end room 118-120/218-220. There is a separate opening to the gate in the back where some locals hovered- easy in/out. If the ABI would close that off, it would probably be a good idea.

We were a little nervous when we got there as it's seen better days but was ideal for us.....hotels bump up the price during masters week and this was reasonably priced for us...right on broad street so where the bars and eateries are....great value for an adequate stay

I checked in here last minute trying to get off the road and found Augusta Georgia and was super excited to stay here for a night. This place was close to downtown and the highway so I risked it. I paid cash and went to check into my room and there was someone standing in front of my room as I went to check in. As I entered my room the phone was ringing and the person push their way into my room and said the phone was for them. I escorted them back out of my room and then they attempted to sell me drugs. I asked where they were staying and they said that they live on the backside of the hotel which is long term low rent housing. I went back into my room which was very dark and only had two lightbulbs working and called the front desk to ask if they had called my room and they said no. Additionally there was a huge chunk of the lower part of the door cut out big enough for a rat to run through. It just seems like a very shady situation and I felt very unsafe so I went to the front desk and told them what happened and got a refund and left. I travel alone and all I ask is that my hotel rooms are clean and safe and this one did not feel like it was either.

Absolutely the most unprofessional management I have ever seen own a business. I had to pay for the same room twice and when trying to get the hotel to refund me for the second charge, they take the phone off the hook and refuse to refund me. If you get staff that isn't management they say to call back for a manager. The manger is the one that takes the phone off the hook and hangs up on me once they realize who I am and why I'm calling

I went with my fiancé and my stepdaughter for his birthday weekend. The room had a God awful smell OMG!!! There were cigarette butts on the top of mini fridge, the sheets and pillows we bad and the floor was wet and had a mildew, sour smell. Don't think was a hotel for guest ( if you get my drift) front desk lady seem uninterested I'm helping to switch rooms, bathroom had stains on the curtains, towels were not clean. Horrible time!!!!

I have never left a "terrible" review before, but this hotel was just awful. I don't mind an older hotel if it's at the appropriate price point. But this one was filthy. Not just the corners and behind the furniture as is often the case in the budget stays. EVERYTHING was filthy. E.g. the sheets had thick brown streaks across the middle. I would not sleep on them. The TV didn't even work. There were clearly people living there and they did not appreciate the "visitors." There were fights and people kicking on doors in the middle of the night. Just all around filthy and unsafe. Stay someplace else!

The ad said " 60 newly remodeled rooms". This was the worst place I've ever stayed in my life. We checked in late on a prepaid
reservation during the Masters Golf Tournament. Had a reservation for Sun. & Mon. nite. We were on the 2nd floor of the lst bldg.
The room was filthy!. Sink was rusted around fixtures and drain.
Bath tub was so stained and dirty & rusted I was afraid to touch anything. The box springs were stained with what looked like blood. I was afraid to check the mattress. There were 2 little bars of soap, no shampoo and limited towels & wash cloths. This place cost us
$339.00 for 2 nites.
We left after 1 night. Didn't even bother to check out.
Tried to contact Budget Inn Corporate headquarters when I got
home. Have been unable to find a headquarters.

Stayed here a once a year ago. Wasn't the worst but wasn't the best. Couldn't beat the price though. The old owner sold the motel and the new owners made some awesome renovations. Was here a few days ago and I was blown away. The rooms had been upgraded. Gone were the outdated tube tv's they finally got flat screens! The parking lot was brightly lit and made me feel safer about walking out to my car at night. The staff was so friendly and helpful and management made me feel welcome. Would definitely stay here again and I reccomend to anyone staying in Augusta to check them out.

We have stayed in the hotel approximately 15 years during Masters week. The owner and staff do their best to accommodate requests. Rooms are basic though clean and are a good value for this occasion. Several good restaurants are nearby.
