Casablanca by the Sea This 10-room inn on Chetumal Bay is a place for those who just want to relax and do nothing for awhile. Sit in a little palapa by the water all day long and read, or retire to your air-conditioned room, as you please, and relax on a comfortable bed. At night, watch the twinkling lights of bustling Chetumal across the bay. The rooms feature hand-carved mahogany doors, saltillo tile floors and custom-made furnishings. Small restaurant -- just okay. I've stayed here several times and always enjoy it. Rates US$75 to $95 double (US$150 for a suite) in-season, plus 9% tax, with discounts in the summer. This hotel is a bout 3 miles out of Corozal and looks across the bay at Chetumal, Mexico. The food was good but nothing to brag about. It is very peaceful and you can enjoy the solitude . I would advise not to try swimming here as there are many broken beer bottles in the sea just off the dock area. If you go too far to the left of the dock you may sink down in the mud past your ankles.

Casablanca By The Sea Hotel is located at the tip of a peninsula, in Corozal District in northern Belize. Near the village of Consejo, and 8 miles north of capitol city, of the same name, Corozal. About one mile distance, across Corozal bay is the capitol city, of the Mexican state of Quitana Roo, Chetumal, Mexico. Corozal bay is a sub-bay of Bahia De Chetumal. This part of Belize is known as The Sugar Coast, as sugar cane is their main agricultural crop. Casablanca Hotel is an appealing, small 10 room hotel, 7 rooms are standard and 3 are suites, all have A/C and T.V. and ceiling fans, but NO phones. All the rooms are located on the second floor. All the 3 suites face the bay, the other 7 rooms are on the sides, but, also have nice views. One of the best features of the hotel, is, that each room has a hand carved mahogany door depicting Mayan scenes. On the first floor you have the bar/restaurant serving tasty Belizean and American meals, prepared by their Honduran cook. The hotel is owned by two Ex-pat, husband and wife(doctors) from the Boston Massachusetts area. Located right next door is the newly renovated 19th century Custom House, with it's distinctive steeple. They now have on display there Mayan artifacts. Corozal is a town of about 10,000 population. There isn't much to do, but it's a great place to do it. There are nice Belizean restaurants in town, along with internet cafes(the hotel does not have internet). You can catch a "Thunder Boat" from Corozal out to Ambergris Cay for a day ot overnight trip, or you can fly out there from the airport in Corozal. It is 12 miles to the Mexican border, where Belize has built an Economic/Duty Free Zone. Lots of duty free stores, plus casinos, and strip clubs. Casablanca Hotel is built right on the water, with wonderful sea breezes to cool you off. The hotel staff are great. You couldn't ask for a more out of the way get away. I will definately be returning.
