We recently spent four nights at the Aurora Hotel in Avalon, Catalina. The hotel is charming, quaint and clean. The location is steps away from the center of town and the waterfront. There is a lovely rooftop deck ideal for quiet mornings or evenings overlooking the downtown and ocean. The staff was friendly and helpful and could not have been nicer. Our 8 year old daughter rates the Aurora 10/10. We concur.

The hotel exceeded all of our expectations! The views from our balcony and the rooftop deck were amazing! The location was perfect. You could walk almost everywhere, as long as you don't mind some hills. Ramiro went above and beyond to ensure our stay was enjoyable. We will definitely be back.

THE GOOD: The staff was very friendly and eager to please. The room was clean, sleek and modern. Comfortable bed, good lighting. It felt a bit like a modern European hotel, which is to say, small, but modern and clean. The deck was TERRIFIC with great views. Relaxing. A real reason to choose this hotel, in my opinion. THE BAD: However, the staff seemed unable to resolve any issues. We had a problem with the HVAC in the first room, which was obvious, so they moved us to a new (same price level) room. After two days, the SECOND HVAC unit also stopped working properly, and the hotel never did fix it correctly while we were there (two more days). It is a non smoking hotel, with signs everywhere making that clear. Even so, many people smoked openly, and I never saw or heard staff trying to enforce the policy. They tried to comp us for the HVAC issue, but couldn't find the coupon. The manager told me he would email me a coupon, but so far (six days later) has not done so. THE UGLY Finally, there was a domestic violence incident on our floor. Though the police were called, the whole thing was sort of swept under the rug, and I was a bit uneasy on the property after that. SUMMARY I would probably stay there again. I leave this review in hopes that the staff can be a bit more assertive and proactive about dealing with problems.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. We're glad to hear you would return, but we're sorry there were HVAC issues that impacted your stay. We are a non-smoking property and guests who smoke face penalties. We're glad you were able to enjoy the ocean views from the rooftop deck, it's a favorite of many guests. We'll be looking forward to your next visit.

Website is not updated with which amenities are not available either due to valid COVID mandates or property preferences/cost-savings measures blamed on COVID. We were told they are "not allowed" due to COVID to offer their advertised Fri wine/cheese offering or weekend mimosa bar offering. Untrue, other L.A. County hotels we've visited have managed to offer such things while respecting social distancing. They've also had 7 months to update their website with which amenities are not being offered.

We're sorry you were disappointed by the changes we've had to make to keep our staff healthy and comply with local mandates regarding COVID. I've re-evaluated our website and made some adjustments. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.
