Detailed Reviews
The staff at this hotel, (recently reopened when we visited) is friendly and helpful. I was able to get a 1:00 checkout, which helped a lot, since I had nothing to do but hangout and wait for hubby to return from an all day meeting. They have a reservation system set up for the pool; you sign up for 90 min. increments. This worked out pretty well, except for one day there were two families of four, and four other adults, and me. It’s a small pool, and that seemed a little crowded. When I later asked about that, I was told that they “try to keep it at 15, 20 at the most”. Which still seems crowded when you’re trying to do social distancing. There are signs on the elevators only allowing two people at a time; this did not stop one of the housekeepers from jumping in on our elevator without a mask. I guess you can’t force people to be careful; but staff should uphold the posted rules. There were many places where sanitizers were placed. People at the front desk always wore masks. I don’t know if this is now the new face of travel, but it has certainly changed. Although we booked three nights, our room had less than 1/2 of a roll of TP. One small bar of soap, that was it (!) No shampoo, lotion, facial bar, shower cap, nothing. The room appeared clean, however when I went to use the room phone to call the front desk, it was covered with dust, and needed wiping down with a sanitizing cloth. This is pretty basic— anyone with any sense knows a shared phone is an excellent way to spread germs. Housekeeping staff should be trained on how to sanitize rooms, and that did not seem to take place. Also, since you do NOT have daily room service, trash piles up quickly, and several times we had to ask for bags to collect our own trash and place it outside the door. On the second day, we were offered breakfast to go, in a paper bag, and that was nice. No coffee maker in the room, but they do offer coffee in the lobby until 9:00. All in all, it was kind of a come down from our prior getaways. We could see the staff was trying their best. It’s just different now, and next time I will lower my expectations.

Stay Report - 12/3 to 12/4
Location: The hotel is located on the El Camino Real just off US 101 at Exit 223. Nearby is a Starbucks, and a small strip mall with a Home Depot and a few other stores. The proximity to 101 makes getting around this area easy. San Luis Obispo and its airport are 20 minutes away and there are a number of wineries and restaurants in easy driving distance.
Hotel: This is one of the nicest SHSes I've been to and I've been to a lot of them. It has a huge parking lot, outdoor pool and really nice outdoor firepit and best of all, a full restaurant AND bar serving dinner every night from 5-9 which is unheard of for this chain. There's also the usual sweet shop in the lobby. On the negative side unless your stay is over 5 days housekeeping is by request only.
Check In: All staff at this hotel were helpful and friendly. I was offered points or a welcome amenity and all interactions with staff here were great.
Room: Really nice. Better than most SHS rooms. There was the usual living room area with small kitchenette and a work space, the bedroom with outlets near the bed and best of all, a normal style bathroom unlike most SHSes. I appreciated having my toilet, sink and shower in the same room. No issues with the noise or Wifi either.
Breakfast: hot items were scrambled eggs, "turkey Canadian bacon" and "vegetarian sausage" (both of which weren't great) plus cereal, fruit, bagels, breads and yogurt.
Overall a really good hotel. Probably the best in this area. I'd happily come back.

My wonderful stay began even before I arrived when Alastair, the general manager, responded to and fulfilled my room request that I had placed through the Marriott Bonvoy app. Upon check in my husband and I were enthusiastically greeted by Kai, the ebullient front desk clerk. I asked for a packet of hot chocolate mix, as I don't drink coffee, and by the time I came back downstairs a few moments later she had located the packets for me...great service! As we entered our room for the first time Alastair happened to be passing by and greeted me by name, telling me that he had been the one with whom I had been communicating via the app. When does that ever happen? The few times I have been greeted by name is when I have been in small European hotels, or in a hotel in which I have stayed for several days.
The cleanliness was fantastic, the parking is complimentary, the staff superb. I should, however, not that the bathroom information is not completely accurate...the description states that the bathroom has a tub/shower combination...mine had a shower only. If this is important to you perhaps you can phone the hotel and see if all the rooms have a shower only. Perhaps Marriott can look into changing the description to reflect a shower only if this is so.
I must share that my expectations are a tad high, because I have stayed in many, many hotels throughout the US and Europe, and believe me when I say that this hotel is at the very top of the list of the best 3 star hotels in which I have stayed anywhere! I congratulate Alastair and his staff on a job well done. Everyone, from the bartender to the front desk staff were friendly, professional, and helpful. It is refreshing after a year like 2020 to stay at a hotel where all expectations are met (or exceeded) and all a guest has to think about is relaxation. My husband and I will be back again and again! See you soon Alastair and staff!

Hi there rescue-you! Thanks for the wonderful review. I will be sure to pass on your comments to the team and especially Kai! Also apprecaite for the feedback on the shower bath combination. I will look into it and get it corrected. We do have some rooms that have the shower/tub combination but the majority are just shower only. We look forward to welcoming you back next time and are so happy that you got some rest and relaxation while you were with us. Cheers AJ

I am usually a Marriott fan. Although this location was convenient with a pleasant staff there was one large mistake in the guest rooms. Opaque glass sliding doors to the toilet and one also separately to the shower/vanity room. We had 4 people staying with us. When someone had to get up early it was impossible not to wake every one else. The sliding glass doors became like huge rectangular light bulbs . Also with glass no sounds were absorbed. Big mistake and made for a very uncomfortable stay.

This Marriott is located right off of the 101 in Atascadero right across the street from a Home Depot and Starbucks (w/Drive Thru). Easy on/off for sure. Even though it's right next to the freeway, I am not able to hear it at night. It's 10 minutes from Downtown Paso Robles so it's convenient to restaurants and wineries.
Now on to the hotel. I like that the room is modern with a kitchenette that has a microwave, mini fridge and a 65" TV. One tip though, if you plan on using a Roku or other streaming device, make sure you unplug the phone cable that's plugged on to the back of the TV. You could either plug it into HDMI1 port or if you press the power button on bottom of the TV, it will allow you to scroll over to change the Source.
We had a 2 Queen room and it looked nice and clean carpet. However, I don't know if I like having the toilet in a separate room from the shower. I can see where this is convenient when traveling with others, but I guess I'm so used to having everything in one room, it's a little weird for me. The toilet has a very big bowl with very little water and when you press the flush button, if you are a guy, you will get a free was for your boys. The shower has shampoo, conditioner and body wash in a pump attached to the shower wall. I understand why they do this, but I worry that it doesn't get checked by housekeeping and you end up with an empty dispenser. The shower head barley has any water coming out of it. There's no pressure whatsoever and just a trickle. There's also no hook to hang your wet or dry towels. I don't understand why there isn't something this simple installed in the bathroom. I ended up having to hang my towel on the shower rod before and after my shower.
A few good things is that the front desk staff are friendly and accommodating. The rooms have a bunch of outlets to plug in your devices. There is free breakfast that ends around 9am (9:30 on the weekends). The food is just ok. Nothing special. They do have about 4 waffle makers and these are the mini waffles and not the large sized ones.

Dear Town_Country, Thank you for taking valuable time out of your day to leave us such honest and thorough feedback. I have informed the Housekeeping and Maintenance department leadership teams of your concerns regarding the shower amenities and water pressure, so that we may ensure the necessary guidelines are in place and reviewed to prevent issues with the bathroom amenities from occurring in the future. I have also passed along your feedback regarding the Front Desk staff, and your compliments are greatly appreciated. Thank you once again for your feedback, and I hope you will choose to stay with us again should your travels bring you back to the area!

At check-in, I was told that hot water wasn't going to be available until 3 AM (12 hours). I asked if I should go to a different hotel, but was told that this was not needed. At the time of writing this review, there is still no hot water almost 36 hours later.
This particular room was grimier than average. I wiped surfaces myself. At first, I thought that it was just a few crumbs missed here or a spot missed there, but then I realized that every surface had something, possibly layers of things. There was old floss on the bathroom floor.
There are many smokers who stay here, as well as staff who smoke. Being around smoke, even at a distance, causes health problems, including headaches and digestion issues.
The linen smell, be it perfume or past smoke, is bothersome. To save myself arguing with staff, I washed small towels and pillowcases, but I can't wash everything. After a night of sleeping in the provided bedding, I was very itchy. When I wash towels, there is something in the towels that causes a reaction.
I don't usually comment on free breakfasts, because I don't expect much, but even in COVID times, other hotels have been able to provide a somewhat suitable breakfast. This one is just a snack bar and muffin. I didn't eat either due to the ingredients. Breakfasts should be nutritious, offer options for allergies or health concerns and a mix of protein and vitamins.
The term "suite" seems to describe adding a couch and a table or desk, which are standard in non-suite rooms. The term "suites" in the hotel name is misleading. I wouldn't have described this room as a suite at all.
Hotels should know that hospitality is providing needs and comfort in a healthy and safe environment. Forcing guests to put up with no hot water, germs/dirt, smoke exposure, problematic perfumes or chemicals and providing very little option in breakfast is not hospitable.

3-day stay and no housekeeping. Marriott is milking the cost savings by not providing housekeeping for as long as they can. They say it is to minimize contact for the safety of staff and guests. Mask wearing is far more effective and no one is wearing masks, not even the housekeepers. Clearly there is no interest in minimizing contact but rather in saving money.
Best hotel staff I've encountered recently. Very friendly and helpful. Nice but tiny pool. Good on a blazing hot day, but otherwise I get the feeling you would freeze in the pool.
Room was it good size, and it was reasonably comfortable. I was upgraded to a room with a sofa and a small sitting area because I'm a titanium elite member.
With housekeeping this hotel would have earned a higher star rating.

Stayed here for one night at the last second, after another hotel where we had reserved had no hot water (and let us out of our reservation, understandably). SpringHill Suites took us on the fly and we really appreciated it. Paul checked us in and though it wasn't a speedy process, he was friendly.
The room was pretty good, a king bed partitioned by a half-wall that serves as a desk station as well. We had to take a bunch of calls from the room that evening, so the desk and sofa area came in handy. There was a small closet, as well as a shelf at the far end of the suite that easily fit our day-trip luggage. The bed was pretty comfortable and the room and furniture were clean.
The shower was standard. Amenities are Tea Tree (shampoo, conditioner, body wash) with dispensers bolted to the wall. Unfortunately there was no lotion.
The best part was the breakfast spread, one of the finest I'd seen in this time of COVID. Buffet with eggs, sausage, vegan sausage, coffee, three juice types, waffles, bagels and muffins, etc. Lots of people eating inside or hanging out, unfortunately maskless), so we ate outside even though the morning was chilly. That said, it gave us a chance to look at the grounds, which were well-maintained and decently spacious for this level of hotel.
Overall a good stay!

Both room and public areas are updated and well kept. However,Customer service was a bit lacking. When I checked in, my membership was not mentioned and when I asked for complimentary water…I was told they were out today. I was also informed the restaurant was not open..A point to note that only Starbucks and Home Depot are within walking distance, all other restaurants require a car. Ordered a glass of wine and was served a $15 glass without being informed of other options. Lastly, when I called to ask why my room had not cooled while I was at dinner, I got little information, when in fact it seems the room does not cool when unoccupied.
All of this to explain my 3/5 rating, just an average experience with less than average service. A bit disappointed .

Dear Susan, Thank you for taking the time to provide us feedback. Your experience at our hotel was not up to our standard, for which I apologize. I have shared your feedback with our Front Desk and Food & Beverage leadership teams as a teachable moment so that we can improve our staff service as well as prevent similar experiences from happening in the future. I hope you choose to stay with us again, should your travels bring you back to the area.

Usually you can at all Marriotts. PLus they usually all have Netflix and other movie viewing apps on the TV.
We are Platinum status, so we were fortunate to be upgraded to a suite.
Yes they do have rooms on the first floor that over look the pool
Dear drdanielita,
Brilliant to hear that you may be our guest this coming December, yes the pool is perfectly heated although outdoors. December in the Paso Robles area can get a little chilly when the sun goes down but again the pool is heated and a fire pit on the near by patio is the perfect place after a dip.
Cheers and looking forward to seeing you soon.
Tim
