Detailed Reviews
We stayed at the Lombardy for three nights at the end of January, 2020, and were thrilled by our experience. The staff members couldn’t be nicer, including a housekeeper who visited our room in the early evening to ensure we had everything we needed. On our first evening we requested and were provided with an electric kettle, extra towels and extra writing paper.
We booked a standard room and were upgraded to a large suite with a kitchen area (refrigerator, sink and counters) living room and hallway. Everything was clean and fresh. Carpets so clean I went barefoot. The bathroom was large, with a vintage feel (shiny white tile) and contemporary function. The shower was hot with tons of water pressure.
Rooms were simply and nicely decorated. The king bed was huge and supremely comfortable with yes, Frette linens (and towels). Large windows with wooden Venetian blinds overlooked Pennsylvania Avenue from the living room and kitchen area and an alley from the bedroom. We never heard sound from another room or the hallway. (Of course, we used our Skunk Brothers white noise app while sleeping, as we always do when traveling.)
We ate at their restaurant the first night, and service and food were above average. The crab cakes had been recommended to us and were stellar and my salad was perfect. The doormen went above and beyond to get us taxis, allow us access to our car in valet parking ($44/night) and direct us to where we wanted to go. The hotel is within about a mile’s walk to the National Mall and even closer to the White House.
An earlier reviewer likened The Lombardy to staying at their grandmother’s city apartment, and we agree. Our grandmother’s place was never this elegant and accommodating, though, and we are so pleased to be adopted by this grande dame. We travel at least three months of each year and this hotel more than met our expectations.
Don’t hesitate to book here. It isn’t a chain hotel, and that’s what makes it such a gem. It’s extremely reasonably priced and they work hard to ensure your stay is first rate. We’re already planning our return.

This hotel was wonderful: an outstanding value with a stellar staff, charming, quirky room, very comfy bed. We were traveling with a well-behaved service dog, who promptly claimed the cool tile floor in the nicely renovated bathroom, which also featured a sweet dressing table.
The location would be brilliant for anyone visiting George Washington University, and is an easy 15-minute walk into Georgetown. Valet Parking (which we didn't use) is $44 per night. We came by train, and it was a $15 cab ride from Union Station. The room was so affordable it was well worth the fare!
Excellent lunch at Duke's Grocery, located opposite on I street. Highly recommend this amazing value!

My daughter and i just spent three nights at the Hotel Lombardy and it was a great experience. Every person we encountered from the door man, bellhop, front desk, housekeeping and cafe staff were outstandingly friendly, warm and helpful. We felt like we were being welcomed home each evening when we returned to our room. It is in a great location, walkable to the Mall and other DC destinations, close to a Metro station, and right on the edge of the GW campus. It is an historic hotel, and had all the charm and warmth of an historic hotel. The service and food in the attached cafe were excellent! The rooms are not overly large, but very comfortable. The bathroom was on the small side, but modern and very bright and clean. Our room had a small refrigerator and sink in a separate kitchenette with a table and chairs. We couldn't have been happier or more comfortable. I will definitely return to the Hotel Lombardy on my next trip to DC!

This is an old hotel in foggy bottom. It’s conveniently located near GWU. As I mostly stay in international chain hotels this place required some getting used to, from not inserting key card in slot on the wall to putting to having a flickering lightbulb in old bedsidelamp. The decor is not really my thing but I can see why It would appeal to some. My room was spacious with a desk and chest of drawers. There were a few things I didn’t like. Firstly my room was facing the street and the windows were not soundproof. From about 1-5 a.m. that’s not a problem but the rest of the day it is. Second, the room didn’t have a kettle or coffee maker. As someone who prefers a buffet breakfast so I can be selective in what I eat as I’m quite persnickety when it comes to breakfast. I didn’t like that there were set breakfast menus most involving eggs in one way or another . The breakfast room is also quite small so easily full and at peak times understaffed. The WiFi worked well , there were free newspapers and the bathroom was clean and there were miniature toiletries. In sum, this hotel is an acquired taste and one not for me.

The Hotel Lombardy has comfortable accommodations in a well appointed historical building. Its location in the heart of Washington DC is perfect for walking or using the metro to get about town but this visit revealed its fine staff. The Venetian Room was a great stop after a day of sightseeing and the staff provided us with patient service and fine food. Thank you.

This place was a huge disappointment. Based on their website and the price point, I was expecting a lot more from this place. My main complaint is that the hotel was so dusty/musty (and possibly moldy??) that my husband and I both had horrible allergy reactions during our stay here. Luckily there’s a drug store nearby where we walked and bought some decongestants, tissues, and throat lozenges. We were only here a couple of days thankfully. Any longer and we would’ve switched hotels as this was almost unbearable. The last night we slept with the window open and it somewhat mitigated the allergy issues. Though it was a bit concerning that we could easily open a window on the 10th floor and there wasn’t even a screen… All that being said, the bed was comfortable and the staff we interacted with were friendly. We avoided spending more time here than we absolutely had to, so we didn’t actually try the restaurant and I can’t comment on the quality of their food. Based on everything else we experienced, we didn’t have high hopes and opted for other food options. One of the best things about The Lombardy is its very close proximity to Founding Farmers, which is a restaurant we loved and went to multiple times. We often order breakfast via room service when it’s offered in a hotel. According to their website, the Lombardy does have room service, but they don’t really advertise it or make it easy to access. I eventually found a QR code that would take you to an online room service menu the morning we were checking out, but it didn’t have instructions on how to order. I think you could probably have called the front desk? While this is a historic hotel, it sadly feels more like just an old hotel. One of its quirks was that each room has an outer wood slat door. I’m guessing these may be intended to provide some sound insulation? Unfortunately, they had spring loaded hinges and the outer doors slam shut if they aren’t closed carefully. Each morning, we were awakened by housekeeping banging around and constant door slamming of all these wood slat doors up and down the hall. Between the allergy issues and all the noise, we spent a pretty miserable three nights here. Do yourself a favor and stay anywhere else.

Hello BJBP225, I sincerely apologize for your disappointing experience at our hotel. It's disheartening to hear about the allergy issues you and your husband faced during your stay. Please know that we take your feedback seriously, and we will thoroughly investigate the concerns you've raised regarding dust, mustiness, and potential mold. Your health and well-being are our top priorities, and we deeply regret that we did not meet your expectations in this regard. I appreciate your kind words about our staff and the comfort of the bed. We value your feedback and will use it to make necessary improvements. Please know that we are taking immediate steps to address the issues you've raised. We understand your frustration and genuinely regret the impact this had on your stay. Thank you for bringing these matters to our attention, and we hope you might consider giving us another chance in the future. I have never written a review before but was moved to because of how consistently lovely this hotel is. It is a former apartment building so even the least expensive room has a sitting room. It was highly spacious for solo me this trip and very comfortable when my family joined me on a previous trip. But what makes this place magical is the staff: sincerely gracious and welcoming, they make you feel at home. I love The Lombardy and won’t stay anywhere else!!

We visited this boutique hotel in late January of 2020. It was much better maintained that I had imagined, the staff could not have been nicer, and the room was larger that we expected. The staff upgraded us even though we had books at a very low rate and were very helpful with suggestions. This hotel has a clean and traditional feel that made for a very comfortable and authentic DC stay! We would love to come back and feel great recommending!

I was intending on reserving a room in this hotel but decided otherwise for the following reason. The room rate was to include breakfast however just before booking I decided to ask if the coffee is included which I assumed would be.. The reply was, no, just the food is included but not coffee. Why? the answer was there is a coffee maker in the room.
The price for the coffee with the "free" breakfast is $5/per person.
This is a joke! A total insult. Caveat emptor!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The historic building carries charm and a hotel has a boutique European feel, especially on lobby level. We liked the Venetian Bar, the staff was universally quite accommodating, parking service was convenient and timely. Easy walk into Georgetown or up to Dupont Circle.
Problems were numerous.
No handicap accessibility - have to lug bags up a few steps to get in and then 6-7 more again once inside the entrance. Yes, there’s a porter but guests must be aware prior to booking!
There was a disturbing, noisy HVAC system in the room, particularly when system initially kicked in.
It was impossible to open the room door because one simply couldn’t properly grip the knob. Twice had to have staff come open the room. Could be solved if they installed lever style handles or perhaps sprayed a lubricant inside the latch mechanism. Extremely irritating and provoking due to the lack inconvenience!
Room decor is drab, and dated. Towels need replacement.
Wished I didn’t have to review so negatively because staff is so nice.

Please ask the hotel!
There are a coffee maker and coffee/tee bags in a pantry, that attached to a room.
Hi TankerT,
The hotel is very close to Georgetown in fact you can walk there in 15 minutes and by vehicle 5-10 minutes depending on traffic. I hope this is helpful.
It was a tub / shower.
