Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We stayed in the 3 bedroom cottage - 6 adults, a baby, and dogs. Its was a little cramped with us all, because the weather was very wet and that kept us all inside. Even so we had a wonderful weekend and really appreciated this dog friendly motel. There were a couple of minor things like faulty light bulbs, that could be improved, but there were also plenty of blankets, heaters etc to keep us cosy. The location is central to Ostend Village, with takeaways, supermarket and some very nice local shops. I happily recommend this motel.

We came to stay for a 4 day week whilst working on the island which we do quite often. We have stayed in most of the units over a period of many years.
The accommodation is good value ( company paying) but… having to cook our own meals the only real criticism we have is that the frying pans in most of the units are awful!
All are of the nonstick type (electric and standard) but look like they are the original ones from when the motel opened!
So they’re worn with the teflon flaking off and would be considered a health hazard.
Might sound a bit harsh but I’d recommend they go through all their units and replace all their old pans as in my opinion it isn’t acceptable.
Otherwise if you’re just short staying and not concerned about cooking meals then I’d highly recommend this motel.

Our group stayed in Unit 13, which is an entire house. In fact the original house on this lot. We went down the road to the local supermarket and there was an aerial photograph of the area showing the original house. This place is sooo clean and well looked after!
This place is on an island, there is no sewage system. The septic tank, next to our house overflowed (it happens!) the owners immediately offered us another space but they were so quick and efficient at getting the problem sorted we didn't have to move!
The Waiheke Island Motel is so central to everything. In hindsight, why would someone come for such a short stay?! This is a week long destination at the very least!

We stayed 2 nights in Unit 3, it had a musty smell and we were appalled by the filthy carpet & grubby cushions covering the equally grubby dining chairs. Definitely nothing like the pics that sold us enough to book our stay.
Not sure why booking.com rates this place well and we relied on their rating too.
We have never stayed in such grubby accomodation in NZ before and are disappointed this happened on Waiheke.
Unfortunately we arrived after 5pm when reception is not maned & decided to spend the least time possible there.
The Owners excuse was that they had been slammed & we had been upgraded. He also offered a discount on our next stay.
Definitely won’t be back here again lesson learned is read reviews & pay the extra for quality accomodation.

Planning a long weekend on another island can be daunting especially if you have not been for over 25 years. Lots has changed. The team at Waiheke Motel shared ideas, booked lots of extras including car rental, zip lining and high tea at the Batch. Such a great service and a great location right by the supermarket and local eateries. They even turned on the electric bed before we arrived. Thanks for an epic weekend and for taking such good care of us. Will recommend to others and hope to be back again soon.

The booking and communication was really pleasant at first then became confusing then cold and unfriendly.
We booked multiple rooms for a reunion. The units were outdated and in need of an update. Like stepping back in to the 1980s.
The larger 2 bdm 'house' was adequate but a bit wonky from building patchwork. And full of mosquitoes. Even though there was warning about this on the room paperwork, there was no fly spray nor repellent or adequate preventative measures. Also, there was no air-freshener for bathroom use.
There was also no one on duty in the reception area over the weekend so if you were locked out, your were locked out. If you needed something (eg. flyspray or air-freshener) you had to go to the local shop to buy some for the units.

Location was excellent for the RSA and not bad for other activities and venues.

The place is absolutely amazing it’s peaceful, has close access to food, takeaways, very kind staff (let us stay 1 hour after checkout with no extra money and 3 packs of extra hot chocolate) a 7 minute walk to the closest beach. Blazing fast Wi-Fi and a pool. What more could you ask for?!

Some friends won a few days away in waiheke and this motel was part of the package. The room they had was small and cramped and we had a one bed unit which smelt mouldy and was very average. We asked if our friends could be moved into the unit next door which was vacant but was told a flat No. we would have paid the extra for their room but the staff weren’t interested. It remained vacant for our two day stay. The stay with our friends was awesome the accommodation incredibly disappointing and well below what would be expected for the price paid. The shower was a waste of time no pressure. You opened the cupboards and it smelt of mould. Mould on the curtains and the list goes on. Short answer would we stay there again No. would we recommend NO!

This review is for the studio cottage I stayed for one night in Feb24. I've stayed at this motel a few times & loved it for things such as the friendly helpfull staff, very good cleanliness, comfortable beds & other furnishings. Great location for shops, good public transport, scenic walks to scenic bays. But of course nothing is perfect. The room was spacious but annoyingly there were no widow screens the keep the mosquitoes out at night so the widows had to be closed, this made the room stuffy, however there also wasn't any air-conditioning or ceiling fans. Also even for a cottage the bathroom was a little tight.

We were very satisfied with our stay at Waiheke Island Motel . Our unit was very clean and tidy, well equipped and with quality linen and some nice touches not always found in motels. It was very handy for travelling by the island bus services but still quite quiet. Shadoe gave us a friendly and helpful reception.
