Rustic, comfortable, kiwi "bach"-style accommodation, set in a bush-clad section. Each of our bungalows has its own individual character and its own private space - and only a 5 minute walk to the beach. Bored with bland chain hotel rooms? We are a family owned and run business, offering self contained, self catering accommodation in your own little slice of Waiheke. A perfect space to relax and wind down, 5 minutes walk from one of the best beaches on the island. Waiheke Island itself is a must for anyone visiting Auckland. Beautiful beaches, clear water, vineyards, restaurants, art studios and galleries and much more to explore. Palm Beach Bungalows is an un-staffed property so we will not be on-site during your stay, and the cottages are well separated and private. This is an ideal place for people who are looking for a place to retreat and recharge.

Detailed Reviews
Second time staying at Palm Beach Bungalows and it was another amazing experience. We stayed in Treetops and it is such a beautiful place with a very comfortable large bed, a clean bathroom and the kitchenette had the basics we needed for a lovely stay. The bus stop is so close and the beautiful beach is just a short stroll down the road. I enjoyed sitting on the balcony listening to the birds singing while looking at the bush and soaking up the sun. We will definitely come back again!

Im not much into reviews but this is the one place, that has a special place in my eyes. This was probably one of the most romatic, relaxed and tranquiel places I have ever been in. My girlfriend and I spent two nights here and we were lucky enough to be spending one part of our night in the Bali Garden Experience, which I think personally is a must to get the complete experience. Out in the open with a warm bath, some soft lighting and a few wines went down a treat. If I could go back to this place again, I will and who knows I might just do it!!!

My husband and I has spent our 9th wedding annivarsary at Tree Tops Bungalow. We chose Treetops as it was the cheapest of the bungalows. Looking at other accommodation around Waiheke we felt that even luxury bungalow was still more affordable than most of the other available rentals elsewhere.
The booking went smoothly and was handled very professionally by Brenda, sending us lots of information including detailed options for traveling from the ferry. I thought this would be very handy for out of town visitors.
We arrived after dinner in the dark and the taxi (Island taxis) which cost us around $12 from the main town dropped us right at the entrance. The fairy lights made it misterious and romantic, we found our way easily along the narrow little paths. (It was a clear summer's night, no rain, good light so I cant comment on how it would be if it was raining.) It adds to a bit of mischief if you are "sneaking away" with hubby for the weekend to a little bungalow hidden in the forest. Treetops look out over some trees from a small dining room table for two, so great for a relaxing brekkie. The kitchen was well equipped with some pots, pans, dishes and cutlery for two, dishcloths, dishwash soap etc. Two plate hob which worked perfectly well for making bacon and eggs. Toaster, jug, coffee plunger, all the usual. It is very small but what more do you need? There was a very clean and tidy bathroom consisting of toilet, basin and very small shower with a forest feel see through kind of roof. There was little soaps and shower caps and all the same you can expect in a hotel room. In the room is a small bar fridge also consisting of drinks etc. which if you use you pay afterwards. The room is painted dark green mostly, I guess it suits the forest feel. We found the bedding clean and tidy and the bed comfy with lots of pillows. I think it could become cold in winter, there was a heater. Everything was tidy. The plastic flowers arent my favorite so maybe something else... I dont know... ornaments or just romantic pictures? There is a CD player, I-pod dock and television with SKY. A DVD- player would have been nice. We loved the special attention to make us feel welcome and the friendlyness of the host. We did not see any people all weekend, except the couple having a quick smoke break at the luxury bungalow before dissapearing back inside. Note that you cant see any of the bungalows from your bungalow, even though they are not that far apart. The beach is easy walking distance, lovely beach with a nude area if that is your thing. There is a small super-market and fish and tjips shop. The main town is 4 km away or an easy busride - just check the schedule and catch it at the right time. Oneroa has lots of little shops and restaurants and a supermarket.
We enjoyed our weekend. If you are after something else than the usual hotel room or busy holiday park then these bungalows would be great. Lots of mosquitos but there was repellent handy too.
We also booked the Bali garden as an extra and the fire was ready when Brenda took us there. We loved the outdoor bath and watching movies and just relax although this would be a great little place to sit and talk or just be in love and eat toasted marshmellows.

We arrived on friday 5pm for our romantic getaway special weekend, which happens maybe once a year, as we both work long hours running our own small businesses. On entering the Luxury bungalow, we were quite dissapointed to find a smell of damp & mustiness, the bungalow was quite warm with a heater and a dehumidifier both on.We immediately noticed the plastic plants & flowers which were thick with dust.On checking the bed we were dissapointed to find very old poly cotton sheets, the bed also had a square bamboo frame suspended from the roof with an old sun filter type fabric draped accross the bamboo rods to give the illusion of a 4 post bed.On looking through the rest of the unit we got a feeling of old,not properly cleaned and very tired.By now it was 6pm and as we had travelled to Waiheke Island by Ferry, we decided to bury our dissapointment and enjoy our time there as best we could.Saturday morning we drove to Ostend farmers market which was fantastic, we indulged in a great breakfast at a local cafe and then proceeded to explore the rural area of the Island visiting some of the wineries in this area. Mid afternoon we returned to the Luxury bungalow and decided to have a lie down & recharge, before heading to a local restaurant for dinner. As we were lying on the bed reading, my wife leapt up and said that something had dropped from above and landed on her pillow, on closer inspection it was a live maggot.I then leapt up and looked at the dirty canopy draped above the bed and found it to be infested with live maggots. We made the decision to leave immediately, phoned the lady who runs the place and got her to come and see for herself. within a few minutes she arrived and proceeded to ask how these maggots could have got there - no apology offered at all - just - how could they have got there?
We left & spent the night elsewhere - couldn't wait to leave Waiheke Island the next day and will never ever go there again. We have still not recieved any sort of apology from this woman Brenda and I still feel sick whenever I think about the night we spent there. I would also like to mention that she charged my credit card for the full amount on the day that I booked, which was 2 weeks prior to our stay. I find this unacceptable,I should have only been charged a deposit at that stage, with the balance being charged on the weekend we stayed. Do not be tempted to stay at this place!!

Palm Beach Bungalows has new owners. We purchased the property as we loved the unique and special character which we intend to maintain & enhance. We appreciate all the comments and suggestions from our guests, which we take seriously. We have started an upgrade & improvement programme which will ensure that the cleanliness & quality of our accommodation is of the highest standard. We have already invested significant money into the Bungalows as part of this improvement programme, which is being completed without compromising the peace & tranquility of the property and privacy of our guests. As part of our commitment to keeping the special character of Palm Beach Bungalows, we have retained Phil & Brenda as our managers.

My husband took me back to Palm Beach Bungalows as we had enjoyed a luxurious stay once before. (5 years ago) unfortunately my excitement soon turned to disappointment once we arrived. Rusty outside furniture stacked outside the door that hadn't seen a clean since last summer? We walked through cobwebs as we entered the kitchen! It smelt musty, and needed a good clean. The Sky light was filthy so it was awful looking at it as we lay on the bed! Windows and room were not clean at all. Towels were ordinary. TV was an old second hand thing that they balance on the fridge in the bedroom! The fridge rattled all night. The fridge had once stood in the kitchen as there is now a gap where the fridge once lived! We were so disappointed and we would not recommend this at all. Definitely not luxury accommodation. Glamping or staying in a nice camping ground would be better and more luxurious than Palm Beach Bungalows. Beware as they are asking top dollar but not providing top quality value at all. A refund please!! On a look at previous reviews, I noticed a reply that refurbishment was started in 2013, yeah right? Where??? I think they have added a fence, maybe that is the refurbishment?

Hi there - all fair enough comments for the state of the place when you stayed. We took over just after your stay and have now renovated, adding a deck and french doors to the bungalow you stayed in. New paint and carpet, insect screens on the windows...and no fridge in the bedroom! We agree - not luxurious, even now, but certainly quirky, cosy and cute. Let us know if you would like to give the place another try - we'd love the opportunity to put things right, even though your experience was under previous ownership. Kate

Very disappointing and false advertising. The beach front bungalow is advertised as a romantic getaway but when you arrive you feel like you are staying in someones basement and walking through storage space to get there. Shabby entrance and grounds.
Dont despair there is great accomodation just up the hill for a similar price but first class standard. Go up to the Waiheke Island Resort, great staff and lovely private rooms with fabulous views and much more.

This is my first review of a holiday but I felt I had to say something about our experiences at the Palm Beach 'Luxury' Bungalow. And there lies the problem- the description 'luxury' implies a sumptuous experience with added attention to detail. Imagine my surprise then when we arrived at the 'bungalow' which is a glorified prefab hut, with tatty sticky old dark green carpet, a plethora of dust and spiders webs, with moldy black tile grout in the shower and chipped crockery. There are plastic plants that look as though they haven't been dusted in months and thin cheap towels. The bed is comfortable enough, and if a mosquito net and nice duvet cover are considered 'luxury' then perhaps we did manage to find it there- although I have definitely experienced better. 'Shabby' is the descriptor I would have used.
I am blown away by the amount of favourable, even ecstatic, reviews this place has received...How can this be? I just don't understand...the bungalow needs a complete overhaul to bring it into this century. Don't get me wrong, as an avid traveller I actively seek out quirky bohemian places to stay- perhaps that would be a better description of the place, 'quirky and bohemian'- although even with that description, for the $320 per night we paid, I would still be very disappointed...I expected a lot more.
I wish I'd paid closer attention to the negative reviews, they really do sum the place up. I wish I'd looked closer at the palm beach bungalow's amateur website that gave clues as to the average state of the place. I wish I'd stayed somewhere else.

Hi ExYorkshireLass So sad to read this review, even though it was 3 years ago. We have since bought this accommodation and done the renovation promised by the previous owners. But we agree with you that "luxury" is a misnomer. This particular bungalow is now known as the Old Boatshed - I'm sure you'll agree that's a more appropriate name. It has been cleaned, painted and recarpeted, and has new french doors which open onto a deck looking out into the trees. No sign of any dusty plastic flowers. Crockery is New Zealand classic Dorothy Thorpe designs for Crown Lynn. It's still quirky and bohemian, and 3 years later we'd charge you less than you paid, if you felt like giving the place another try. If you do, please email me at palmbeachbungalows77@gmail.com and we'll see if we can offer you a happier experience this time around.

We had very high expectations of this place given the photos on the website.Walking into the room we were greeted by an overwhelming smell of dampness and mustiness. There were spider webs(with spiders) everywhere and the place looked like it hadn't been dusted or cleaned in years. The walls were green and the carpet was old, dirty and red.The duvet and pillow cases were maroon and on inspection saw that the sheets, pillows and duvet were covered in dodgy stains. We asked Brenda for extra sheets and pillow cases right away which she gave us a weird look for but it was so unhygienic. Right above the bed was a horrible fabric cloth covering a filthy vent in the roof in an attempt to block out the sunlight. My partner saw objects on the cloth so I stood on the bed to look at what was between it and the window/vent and was shocked to see spider webs and spiders. We just lay there in shock looking up expecting something to drop right on our heads at any point. During the night we heard constant banging on the window above our head and we woke up to a white tailed spider crawling on the wall behind us from the sheet. The information sheets had so much emphasis on how they prioritize on hygiene and cleanliness which we found baffling because i spent most of my time killing spiders and sterilizing the pots and pans. We used shampoo to clean our dishes as there was no dish washing liquid and the wireless didnt work. The tap water was brown at times and had a milky weird taste. The tv looked like it was the first one ever invented(no remote) and the shower had a window as a roof with dead insects on it. We were meant to stay there from thurs-sun but checked out on fri afternoon after we couldn't handle anymore. We don't normally write reviews or like to write negative things about places but this is so deceiving the owner didn't really seem to care when my partner called her to inform her of our early departure and explained why. All she did was respond with a "Oh...Oh...Ok...Ok Bye" We were charged for our full stay. I cannot believe the reviews on this site. Please be careful and stay at the resort around the corner or the aquasands because this is anything but luxury or romantic!

If you are looking for a luxury stay, this is not the place for you. The "bungalows" are rather small but well equipped cottages. We stayed here two nights in treetops and can recommend it for its proximity to the Palm beach, unique concept of a cottage surrounded with trees and easy access to public transport.
Few things to keep in mind though: rooms can get stuffy in summers and a wee bit tight if you are carrying luggage, beware of spiders/insects that come in if you open the windows for ventilation (would be ideal if the windows had a mesh to allow fresh air but prevent insects), never really saw the hosts and it felt like we were on our own here (for us it was ok as they responded to our emails promptly and we were looking for peace and quiet) and it's not a B&B as no breakfast or any meal is served (there's a kitchenette and you can prepare your own meal).
Overall a basic accommodation that offers value for money.

This, was not the problem of the accommodation, but our lack of time. Not sure how far it was to the beach....
I had very high expectations from the Palm Beach Bungalows based on the previous reviews and a little bit of romantic luxury would be just the trick for a rare weekend away for my beloved and I while on Waiheke for a wedding.
The bus from the ferry terminal takes you close by to the Palm Beach Bungalows and they very kindly let us check-in early which was fantastic and the service was terrific and at a distance which suited us perfectly. Wi-fi is a bonus but a bit wobbly on the connection. The mini bar is great and reasonable.
The location is nice and green and it felt indeed like being in the treetops. If you can feel a however coming it's because, however, the room is dated and tired and could do with a spring clean. It was fine, comfortable and pleasant. The sky-light directly above our (sore) heads early Sunday morning, despite being covered by a sarong, didn't help the thumping heads any. The shower was kind of iffy and the bathroom small.
It's not luxury, it's pleasant. We didn't avail ourselves of any of the extra's so I can't really vouch for any of that. The bali villa etc.
We've done luxury and it wasn't quite there, we've done budget and it was not that either. Just pleasant, friendly servicable accommodation.
