The Boatshed is a small luxury hotel on Wiaheke Island - sitting above the beach of Oneroa with extensive views out over the bay. Best described as "barefoot luxury", this seaside hotel and the island its on are a perfect reflection of the modern New Zealand holiday - with a high level of design detail, beaches, vineyards, galleries, and stunning coastal walkways make this little place the perfect tonic for those wanting to get away from it all. We look forward to seeing you soon...

We were after a relaxing spot after cancelling a trip to Europe and the Boatshed was perfect. We stayed in a Bungalow room, based on a NZ "bach"concept with enough design references to make it relaxing while at the same time being luxurious. The room was spacious and very well equipped. It was a uniquely local experience and avoided hotel genericism. The main building was nautically themed and looked over to beautiful Little Oneroa Bay and out to Little Barrier Island. The beach itself is a 5 minute walk and the town of Oneroa a little longer.

Food was excellent and much of the fresh food is grown on the property. Breakfast was generous and saw you through to dinner. Dinners were also world class without pretension. Jonathan ran the place with professionalism and friendliness and all of the staff were dedicated and helpful. The booking comes with access to 4WD vehicles to see the island as well.

The rate wasn't cheap however it represented value for what you got, especially compared with the USA or most of Europe. If you want a few days rest and relaxed indulgence this is for you. We really loved the Boatshed and the Island and highly recommend both.

My husband and I were blown away by every facet of our short but incredible stay at the Boatshed back in February: the stunning view of Oneroa Bay, delicious meals with the freshest vegetables we've ever tasted, and the relaxing, friendly vibe shared between both the staff and other guests. Jonathan and his team (Martin, Vessela, Daniel, Caroline, Joseph, etc.) really do a great job of making everyone feel right at home! We highly recommend staying in the Lighthouse, which has a third-story sun room with walls of glass doors that can be folded up to catch the warm ocean breeze, and a dumbwaiter for the most romantic private dining experience ever! Little Oneroa Beach is just down the hill. From the beach, there's a stunning hike out to Fisherman's Rock. Another must-do is renting a picnic truck from the Boatshed and driving around the more remote side of Waiheke Island. I also can't forget to mention the Boatshed's four-legged ambassador Harry who attends to guests when he isn't napping on the couch or out for a car ride. That dog sure has the Life of Reilly as we did during our three days in paradise!

Every moment of our stay at the Boatshed was perfect, from the time Jonathan picked us up at the Ferry Terminal to the time we said goodbye after checking out. We stayed for a weekend in January, which is the NZ summer, and had a wonderfully relaxing stay.

We stayed in the Lighthouse suite, which had an amazing view of the ocean from the North windows and Oneroa from the Western windows. The room is split over 3 levels with a spiral staircase in the corner of the suite. If you find stairs a challenge, then this room is not for you, but otherwise, I would highly recommend it. Everything was comfortable and relaxing with plenty of space. If you do choose to dine in room, there is a dumbwaiter which carries your meal tray up to the top floor for you.

The best bit about the hotel though, was the service. From the moment you are picked up at the ferry (transfers to and from the ferry are included in your room price) you have a sense of being looked after. There is no "check in" per se. You are greeted, invited to put your bags down and invited to find a comfy spot to sit on the deck or in the lounge while enjoying some refreshments in the form of wine and cheese. The team then shows you to your room whenever you are ready. The staff at the boatshed have their service down to a fine art. Their service is attentive and respectful, without being pretentious or fussy. They are all lovely people and we were wonderfully cared for.

Dinner is available at the restaurant every night and the chef prepares a meal based on what is ready to be picked in the garden and what is in season and available. There is no menu, but the team check on your preferences and dietary requirements. The lack of choice was not an issue for us, and it is well advertised on the hotel website. For us it was a wonderful opportunity for someone to curate a meal for us, and we thoroughly enjoyed all our meals at The Boatshed. Meals are also incredibly generous... you definitely will never go hungry. I think breakfast was the real highlight for us. Generous, delicious, fresh food, overlooking the ocean. It was bliss.

We also hired one of the picnic trucks for the day, to get around the island. It was super convenient and a great option to have at our disposal.

We had an excellent stay, and compared to other luxury, boutique hotels, this is the standard by which I will judge all others from now on. I cannot wait to return for another stay.

Jonathan, Vessela and Leanna, thank you for looking after us so well. We couldn't have asked for a better stay. Special mention to Harry as well, for being an excellent furry ambassador for the hotel.

What a fantastic spot. Superb accomodation. Could run out of adjectives!!
Jonathan and his staff - many thanks.
Food incredible - could go on & on.
The boathouse is also in an ideal location - 2/3 min walk from the beach & 10 mins into village of Onorea which is also a little gem.
Thank you.

Simply an outstanding place to stay on Waiheke Island, near Auckland. The island was great, but staying here really plussed the experience. We were prepared to like the room from what we saw on the website, but it was much better in person. (It had a wonderful beach view; now that I have been there, I think most of the rooms enjoy a water view.) The staff was outstanding, and a tasty, two-course breakfast each morning (included) was a highlight. The resort was designed with lots of little table settings for two and four, where you could take in the ocean view with a flat white coffee or a glass of local wine. I give The Boatshed my highest recommendation.

The Boasted was an excellent place to spend a few nights on our Honeymoon. Waiheke Island is a short trip from mainland Auckland by Ferry and easy to navigate. The staff, including Jonathan, Mila, Violet, and the rest of the team are extremely friendly and go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. The guest-count is more limited than a corporate hotel, so the staff learns your preferences quickly and treats you like a part of the family. Additionally, the food was FANTASTIC. We had reservations for all 3 nights during our stay and decided to eat not only dinners but breakfast and lunches on-site because the food was fresh and delightful. Highly recommend to anyone traveling to NZD to make stop for a few days in "the Hamptons/ Napa Valley of New Zealand".

What a great place! We arrive to New Zealand after a long trip from New York and spent the first evening at the boat shed welcomed with open arms with a. Fabulous cappuccino. The food at the boat shed was incredible the presentation was beautiful and everything just melted in your mouth. We spent the day wandering around walking to Vineyard having lunch, going to the art galleries. Next day we walked around some trails on the island as well before I ferry back to Auckland
We highly recommend The boat shed. Our only regret was we stayed only one night.

Outstanding inn with stunning views Unfortunately my spouse came down with Covid before arriving and we had to self isolate for 5 nights. We couldn’t imagine a more beautiful place to do this. Everyone was so very caring under these difficult circumstances and all our food was left outside our door. Our room was well furnished and very comfortable. It had a very small patio that opened up to a beautiful view of the bay below. The inn is furnished in a nautical theme very creatively. The breakfasts and dinners were outstanding.
Thank you to everyone

The Boatshed is a genuine find -- so beautiful and comfortable that you won't want to leave. We enjoyed three nights there at the start of a six-week trip through New Zealand and Australia and it was a perfect launching pad for our trip. Jonathan and his team are wonderful hosts and he is also a fantastic chef. We enjoyed breakfast every morning and a fabulous lamb dinner one evening, plus an impromptu late lunch one afternoon. He has impeccable taste; the public spaces are lovely, and we loved our room, The Bridge, which was spacious, with a wonderful view of the bay below. The bed was supremely comfortable and the room had every possible amenity, including a straw beach bag, with towel, hat, suntan lotion, etc.

It's an easy walk into town, about ten minutes, and also minutes to a pleasant swimming beach across the street. The island is a mini paradise, with wonderful walking paths and good restaurants (although Jonathan's meals can't be beat). Now I just wish it weren't so far from NYC or I'd plan another visit soon!

Welcome to paradise! No kidding. In all our travels around the world, this is one of the best places we’ve ever stayed. Rich, warm, and comfortable. If it was a boat, it would be a luxurious private yacht with your own crew and chef. Dining is for hotel guests only, and breakfast and dinner are as good as most award-winning restaurants. There was fresh fruit, homemade cookies, and even Port wine in our room every day. Our sliding glass doors opened to a beach-style deck with teak lounge chairs and a view across the bay. The hotel even has its own little fleet of Boatshed Jeeps you can rent to tool around the island. We did not want to leave!

It's not cheap. Ours was included in the package but otherwise we decided to dine at other restaurants on other nights. That said, it's lovely to just stay 'home' and eat well :) I can't remember costs exactly but it may have been around $150 each? Best to check with them though as that's just a vague memory...
