We booked this place for a special occasion On arrival we were greeted with a coffee and biscuits but the cluttered seating area was cold and the fire was not even lite. The place is need of some serious TLC and removal of all the clutter of sailing stuff and mountains of old books The breakfast was very good with a nice view over the bay in the distance and the rooms ok but not worth the price.
Every moment of our stay at the Boatshed was perfect, from the time Jonathan picked us up at the Ferry Terminal to the time we said goodbye after checking out. We stayed for a weekend in January, which is the NZ summer, and had a wonderfully relaxing stay. We stayed in the Lighthouse suite, which had an amazing view of the ocean from the North windows and Oneroa from the Western windows. The room is split over 3 levels with a spiral staircase in the corner of the suite. If you find stairs a challenge, then this room is not for you, but otherwise, I would highly recommend it. Everything was comfortable and relaxing with plenty of space. If you do choose to dine in room, there is a dumbwaiter which carries your meal tray up to the top floor for you. The best bit about the hotel though, was the service. From the moment you are picked up at the ferry (transfers to and from the ferry are included in your room price) you have a sense of being looked after. There is no "check in" per se. You are greeted, invited to put your bags down and invited to find a comfy spot to sit on the deck or in the lounge while enjoying some refreshments in the form of wine and cheese. The team then shows you to your room whenever you are ready. The staff at the boatshed have their service down to a fine art. Their service is attentive and respectful, without being pretentious or fussy. They are all lovely people and we were wonderfully cared for. Dinner is available at the restaurant every night and the chef prepares a meal based on what is ready to be picked in the garden and what is in season and available. There is no menu, but the team check on your preferences and dietary requirements. The lack of choice was not an issue for us, and it is well advertised on the hotel website. For us it was a wonderful opportunity for someone to curate a meal for us, and we thoroughly enjoyed all our meals at The Boatshed. Meals are also incredibly generous... you definitely will never go hungry. I think breakfast was the real highlight for us. Generous, delicious, fresh food, overlooking the ocean. It was bliss. We also hired one of the picnic trucks for the day, to get around the island. It was super convenient and a great option to have at our disposal. We had an excellent stay, and compared to other luxury, boutique hotels, this is the standard by which I will judge all others from now on. I cannot wait to return for another stay. Jonathan, Vessela and Leanna, thank you for looking after us so well. We couldn't have asked for a better stay. Special mention to Harry as well, for being an excellent furry ambassador for the hotel.…
Excellent experience with friendly helpful staff, always ready to assist with anything we needed. The food was great and service at breakfast and dinner was superb. When we needed to get a car to go to the tunnels at Stoney Batter the manager initially said he would organise a rental and then later said we could take one of their vehicles and the only cost was to top the fuel tank back up.
I was expecting something quite unique or luxurious. But it isn't. A pleasant place with pleasant decor featuring an abundance of cushions and restful seaside colors. I'm really stretching to think of anything to compliment about it. Dinner was included for one night of our two night stay. It was extremely straightforward, with no options and wine not included. Breakfast can only be called boring. The view is nice but nothing amazing by Waiheke standards. The staff are fine. Over all it is incredibly expensive for something very ordinary.
Have been wanting to come here for a long time and I don't know why I left it so long! We decided to treat ourselves on my birthday and we weren't disappointed, a stunning setting just above Little Oneroa. The Boatshed really is a place to let all your cares just slip away. Jonathan, Martin, and their staff are all fantastic, attentive without being intrusive. The decor is beautiful and as a gardener myself, I have to say the vegetable garden is impressive. Wonderful stay. Thank you!
A very conformable well run establishment. Extremely clean and well looked after with a lot of thought going in to the decor. The meal was excellent and the service very good. The way the owner is always available but not in your face was superb.
My husband and I were blown away by every facet of our short but incredible stay at the Boatshed back in February: the stunning view of Oneroa Bay, delicious meals with the freshest vegetables we've ever tasted, and the relaxing, friendly vibe shared between both the staff and other guests. Jonathan and his team (Martin, Vessela, Daniel, Caroline, Joseph, etc.) really do a great job of making everyone feel right at home! We highly recommend staying in the Lighthouse, which has a third-story sun room with walls of glass doors that can be folded up to catch the warm ocean breeze, and a dumbwaiter for the most romantic private dining experience ever! Little Oneroa Beach is just down the hill. From the beach, there's a stunning hike out to Fisherman's Rock. Another must-do is renting a picnic truck from the Boatshed and driving around the more remote side of Waiheke Island. I also can't forget to mention the Boatshed's four-legged ambassador Harry who attends to guests when he isn't napping on the couch or out for a car ride. That dog sure has the Life of Reilly as we did during our three days in paradise!…
What a great place! We arrive to New Zealand after a long trip from New York and spent the first evening at the boat shed welcomed with open arms with a. Fabulous cappuccino. The food at the boat shed was incredible the presentation was beautiful and everything just melted in your mouth. We spent the day wandering around walking to Vineyard having lunch, going to the art galleries. Next day we walked around some trails on the island as well before I ferry back to Auckland We highly recommend The boat shed. Our only regret was we stayed only one night.
We were after a relaxing spot after cancelling a trip to Europe and the Boatshed was perfect. We stayed in a Bungalow room, based on a NZ "bach"concept with enough design references to make it relaxing while at the same time being luxurious. The room was spacious and very well equipped. It was a uniquely local experience and avoided hotel genericism. The main building was nautically themed and looked over to beautiful Little Oneroa Bay and out to Little Barrier Island. The beach itself is a 5 minute walk and the town of Oneroa a little longer. Food was excellent and much of the fresh food is grown on the property. Breakfast was generous and saw you through to dinner. Dinners were also world class without pretension. Jonathan ran the place with professionalism and friendliness and all of the staff were dedicated and helpful. The booking comes with access to 4WD vehicles to see the island as well. The rate wasn't cheap however it represented value for what you got, especially compared with the USA or most of Europe. If you want a few days rest and relaxed indulgence this is for you. We really loved the Boatshed and the Island and highly recommend both.…
This was the first hotel that we stayed in having flown in from the U.K. The Boatshed set the bar very highly. From the moment that we picked up from the ferry terminal we felt valued. Arriving at the hotel we were given the most amazing glass of wine and a plate of cheese - we just sat on the deck drinking the wine and nibbling at the cheese and soaked up the view of the bay while all thoughts of the gloomy U.K. faded into the background! We had a fabulous room overlooking the beach - very comfortable and spacious and a lovely seating area to relax in. A snug bathroom but good strong shower - so all you need. Food was amazing - beautifully prepared and delicious. Loved the breakfasts too. The staff were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Two nights was certainly not long enough in this great hotel.…
