Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The accommodation was clean and tidy (if a little minimal) and the views are spectacular. However the tea and coffee supplied was awful (don't drink it, head to the village for a proper hot drink that actually has flavour), and the cleaning fee is something to watch for. It's not mentioned until you're in the booking process, and is noted as $50 'tax' per room, yet we were charged $200 for our two-night stay. When I queried this, I was told they had never received a complaint in nine years and the amount charged was correct. Complete rip-off.

We stayed for three nights and loved the place. The chalet was spotlessly clean. A little off the beaten track, but easy to find, noting other reviewers comments regarding the ‘dangerous road’, to clarify, the property is about 1.5km along a gravel road- not narrow or winding or anything, and not unlike many thousands of km of roading elsewhere in NZ.

When I booked, I got the impression that the chalet had its own private outdoor shower and bath - this is not the case. On reviewing the website, the owners do not suggest they are private to each chalet, that was just wishful thinking on my part. To be clear, there is a wonderful sauna with a shower outside it, with no privacy, and there is a wonderfully private outdoor bath enclosed on three sides, with a roof, looking out to the ocean. It has a sliding bolt from the inside to ensure you are not interrupted while bathing. The sauna, outdoor shower and outdoor bath are there for the use of all guests - the two chalets and ‘the cabin’.

The kitchen is sufficiently well equipped, with cups, water glasses, wine glasses and plastic wine glasses (for use with the bath) for two, and four plates and bowls and cutlery for four. One thing lacking was a sharp knife. There is a stovetop, microwave, kettle, toaster, coffee plunger and a dishwasher.

A couple of the power points have built in USB chargers which was also a nice touch. There is a tv (didn’t use it) but no facility to play music.

The rooms are not serviced during the stay and so extra towels would have been nice, but we could have asked for them and I am sure they would have been provided without any problems.

All in all, we would happily stay here again.

We were hoping to have a nice and quiet couple of days away from the busy work schedule. After a lot of research this place came up with beautiful pics of the place and the surrounding. It sounded like the place where we wanted to be, but when we actually got there it was not what I thought it would be. The view was definitely amazing, but the service was not upto the mark. There was construction going on right next to our chalet right from 07:00 hrs in the morning both the days - literally which took care of the rest of the day-so much for trying to have a quiet and peaceful day ! There were no proper instructions written anywhere, the pots and pans were very grubby as well. I feel like we only paid for the view basically -Real disappointment for the price of it !

Just a delight from start to finish. Our host Steve provided everything we could need, from the champagne, flowers and treats on arrival, to the accommodation itself (Ocean chalet) to the hire car, etc. Could not have been better. We also availed ourselves of Mathias (Take a bite) who provided the personally delivered breakfasts. Great, fresh food. Congratulations all on providing an amazing experience for your guests.

the owners are very dishonest about their accommodations. The road is very dangerous. Please be careful. How can a place so awful be a part of such a beautiful island? The room was tiny and stank, most of all the owners are dishonest. DO NOT BOOK this one.
