I really wanted to like this place very much, but in the end it was just "okay." At $200 US per night, this is not budget lodging, but on Waiheke Island everything is just more expensive than on the mainland. That said, "Kowhai Close" still underperformed for us. First, the pros: beautiful land with lovely birds, flowers, ducks, and some cute sheep baying amusedly next door; the shops and beaches of Oneroa are just a few minutes away by car; and there's a nice cliff-side walking trail just down the road maybe a minute or two by car. Our private en suite bathroom was clean, and had a lovely, large window looking out on the flowers and the hillside. Now, the cons: the room was small and very tired looking. No closet for hanging clothes, (but there was a small metal hangar rack); the furniture and bedding did not look very fresh, and although house slippers were provided with the room, they looked dirty and used, as though every set of feet that came through the place had worn them. The walls were thin, so conversations in the house's entryway were clearly audible in our closed room. Continental-style breakfast was followed by a request/directive that guests wash, dry, and put away all of the dishes. I've stayed in a lot of B&B's on multiple continents, but being pressured to wash the owner's dishes was a first. Overall, I was glad that we were only staying for one night, and at $200 US per night I would not recommend this place to other travelers.

We came for a family birthday nearby and we're so happy we chose this place to stay. Guy and Joyce made us feel so welcome and looked after us so well. Breakfast was lovely with home made jams and we had home made fruit cake as well. It's very quiet but close to town, beautiful scenery everywhere. Rooms are so comfortable and bathroom is large and everything is provided. We recommend this lovely home for a visit.

We had the upper apartment for a couple of nights. Joyce and Guy were extremely welcoming and friendly (Guy gave our car a thorough pressure wash to remove the cement dust we'd picked up from the roadworks on their road). Having first thought we'd go out to dinner each evening we found it much better to have a nice winery lunch and get a few things for a light meal at the apartment. The apartment was well supplied and it was lovely to sit on the terrace or in the lounge enjoying the views over to Auckland. We didn't find the spiral staircase any problem (but we were travelling light) and, although there were other guests each night, there was no noise disturbance whatever. Best to have transport to enjoy staying at Kowhai Close as distances are deceptive on the island and the terrain is hilly! Thoroughly recommended.

We stayed in the apartment, which is a one bedroom en suite with a kitchen and lounge, up a spiral staircase. It has some beautiful views of the sea, farmland and the bush. The apartment was clean, fully equipped and had a lovely sea breeze at all times - really comfortable even in the heat! It comes with WiFi, and the hosts even provided us with milk, freshly ground coffee and biscuits on arrival. There is a lovely deck that you can sit on to enjoy the views with a cup of tea.. very idyllic. Kowhai Close is located near the iconic Cable Bay and Mudbrick wineries, and we were very lucky that it was also within walking distance to the start of the Sculpture at the Gulf exhibition. It's only a short drive down to Oneroa Village and 15-20 minutes to Onetangi. It's tucked away from the road, so all you hear is the birds, insects and the occasional neighing of the horse. Lovely place to come back to after all the buzz of the beach/wineries/village. Guy and Joyce are great hosts - they are very helpful and hospitable. The grounds itself are stunning - exploring it was something we really enjoyed. There is a quaint little lake with a row boat, some lovely bush with all sorts of birds including a few pukekos, tui, wood pigeon etc. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet getaway from the hustle and bustle of the touristy parts of Waiheke. Thank you Guy and Joyce for letting us stay in your home!

We spent 2 nights in the top apartment which has sea views as well as views of the garden, farmland , horses, bush and many birds. Access is via a steep spiral staircase from the deck below so you pass someone else's windows on your way up, and is quite a challenge with luggage, but it's worth it for the views and the semi-glazed balcony where we spent a lot of our time with a glass of wine, a book and a pair of binoculars or eating breakfast and enjoying the peace. Large sitting room with sofa, dining area, kitchen. Milk, tea, coffee, cereal supplied, and you can buy the olive oil they produce. Comfortable double bedroom , smallish shower room, everything works, plenty of towels and toiletries. Light and airy rooms, comfortable chairs outside and you are encouraged to walk around the attractive garden. Friendly owners. All the apartments/cabins seem to have their own outside deck or space.

The owners of this beautiful property, Joyce and Guy, were incredibly welcoming, warm and helpful. Joyce met us at the ferry from Auckland and Guy was eager to guide us in planning our day, doing so with enthusiasm and charm. The breakfast included homemade jams and stewed fruits and the kitchen ares was open for our use when we had snacks later in the day. It was the perfect place to wind down after two weeks of very active adventures in NZ!

An amazing and relaxing place to stay. It is on the better side of the island, within walking distance from the gorgeous town of Oneroa and a short walk to the best wineries on the island such as Cable Bay (1km) and Mudbrick as well as Jurassic Ridge. Great walking tracks nearby with views overlooking Auckland city. Hosts Guy and Joyce are very friendly and have great knowledge of the island, their home made olive oil is the best in the world (if you can get your hands on some we recommend it). We stayed in the two bedroom cottage and it was nice and peaceful with all the amenities you need (although you do need to position yourself near the main house for the wifi). As Waiheke Island is only a 40 minute ferry from Auckland it is the perfect getaway for a long weekend, either from within New Zealand or from Australia (just short flight to Auckland then ferry across).

We stayed one night in the top apartment, such stunning landscape views and ocean view. Apartment had lots of space and very comfortable. The Accommodation is only a couple minutes from the town centre and cable bay vineyard and the beach. We want to acknowledge the owners, they are so kind and helpful. The owner went the extra mile to help carry our bags, show us through the apartment, and they were genuinely interested when engaging in conversation. They were so awesome. :-) Thankyou so much for letting us stay with you. Highly recommend !!!

We stayed two nights at Kowhai Close. It is a quiet and peaceful retreat, yet very close ( i.e. within walking distance) of the Oneroa Village and local vineyards and restaurants. Mudbrick winery and Cable Bay are close by and very recommended for great food and wine. Joyce and Guy are great hosts.
