Detailed Reviews
I had a mistake on my booking (not the accommodation’s fault) which meant they were fully booked when I arrived to stay the night, late in the evening due to a weather-delayed ferry. Greg was great, driving me around the town to try and find somewhere else to stay, even though it was now after midnight. Everywhere was fully booked so eventually came up with the solution of putting me up on a spare sofa bed. Can’t recommend highly enough, hosts who go far beyond the call of duty to make sure their guests are OK 👍 The location is also very convenient for the ferry (walking distance).

Basic yet comfortable and perfect location. We stayed here overnight with two young children - it was clean, comfortable and the owner was really helpful and accommodating. It is a 2min walk down to the water front (7mins if your 2yr old chooses to walk it themselves!) and is across the road from the local supermarket. They have several eateries they have agreed discounts with if you choose to eat out. Highly recommended place to stay.

Wife and I just completed our 3 week South Island tour, staying at motels all over the place. Aldan Lodge Motel stands out as one of the best places we stayed at. Clean and comfy beds. Plenty space as well. We stayed in smaller more expensive places than Aldan Lodge. It’s not got brand new showers but they are well maintained and who can keep updating huge rooms every 5 or even 10 years. With the past Covid keeping allot of people away they doing an exceptionally awesome job. Trying to stay open so people like you can have a place to stay.
I’ve stayed here 4 times and so looking forward to our next trip.

A very neat and tidy room with the best outfitted kitchenette we’ve experienced in New Zealand’s South Island. Our hosts were top notch and Greg even offered to drive us to the ferry at the end of our stay. They were very accommodating with keeping our luggage when we arrived before checkin and after checkout. Thank you for a great stay.

Stayed in Executive Studio 1 night, paid too much $ for what we got, Bottom floor in block of motel rooms, was dirty, plaster on walls not painted ripped furniture, food in ice box, toilet seat broken, bathroom mould around windows, bugs in shower. Pictures fulling of the walls. This room should not have been rented out. Owners away & left a tenant to look after place. Very disappointed would not recommend.

Picton is a small town which everyone passes through when leaving the ferry. Advice, stop and stay, it’s lovely. It’s a small town, and just 5 mins from ferry port and marina is Alden Lodge. Couple who run motel very friendly and extremely helpful. The rooms are a good size and the facilities are good with enough cutlery and accessories to cook an easy meal. There is also an on site laundry, cost I think was a couple of dollars.
What could be better, if you are staying more than one night they come into the room to make beds etc, but bin was not emptied or tea and coffee topped up, nothing major but it’s those little comforts what make a stay. I would stay here again though, no problems.

Stuck in a time warp this motel was Old, Tired and Jaded in need of refurbishment.
No Mixer Taps ( Bathroom and Kitchen )
Looked and felt dirty everywhere.
Kitchen window latch was broken ( why not just replace it? )
Would not book and stay here - would not even pay for the mother-in-law to stay here!!

Spent a couple of nights here while staying in Picton. Central location is very good as we didn't have a car - and it's easy walking distance from the ferries, rail and bus stations and all attractions and restaurants in town. Owners were very helpful with recommendations. Our unit was clean, quiet and comfortable and very well equipped. Would definitely stay here again if we return to Picton.

I really enjoyed my stay in Picton, not only because it’s a really lovely little town, but also because of the good stay at Aldan Lodge. The hosts were really friendly and informative. Greg was always around to help out idiots like me who couldn’t work out how to use the laundry, and always willing to stop for a chat. The motel is right in the heart of town with a supermarket literally across the road, restaurants and cafes within a five minute walk, along with lots of lovely quirky little shops. The room itself was a good size for three adults, with all the facilities we needed. The shower was the only thing that could do with a look at, as it was a tiny bit hopeless, but other than that, a good place to stay.

Got into our accommodation late because of ferry troubles but no issue with staff who were great. Room was good and the motel is situated near restaurants, pubs and a supermarket. You could if necessary walk to the motel from the ferry depending on the amount of luggage.
