Bay Vista Waterfront Motel offers the only Picton accommodation ON the waterfront. We aren't just a motel, but a destination. Wake up to the sound of a Tui or Cacadas in our native bush and the smell of the sea at your doorstep. All our waterfront units are all north facing for all day sun & located right on the water’s edge with stunning views overlooking Waikawa Bay & the Marina. We are only 5 minutes by car from Picton township & have ample of off street parking for boats and trailers. It's only a short stroll to the local restaurant at the Marina, the boat launching ramps and playground.

We only had one nights stay on our way to the ferry, for which the motel was ideally located. There is a great view over the harbour from the rear of the units and the motel is within easy walking distance to the bars on the marina. The unit we stayed in was spotless and contained all kitchen equipment and utensils that we needed. Check in and check out were easy. We felt well looked after by the amenable host, Liz. We would definitely stay again.

We stayed in the Bay Vista Motel during our recent trip to NZ and we would highly recommend it to anyone who is visiting the Picton/ Marlborough Sounds region. Our stay there was definitely one of the highlights of our New Zealand trip and Kerrie and her team at the Bay Vista could not have made us more welcome and was on hand to offer advice (which we took) and answer any questions or concerns (we had none) or just have a general chit chat (which we did). We stayed in Kerrie's separate self contained house opposite the hotel which suited us down to the ground. It almost felt like a second home when we were leaving!! If you want good accomodation, friendly service with a home from home atmosphere, we highly recommend the Bay Vista Hotel. Be sure to do the Mail Boat Run tour on the Marlborough Sound. It is a great day out even for those who are not too keen on boat trips. My wife can get sea sick just looking at water but mail boat is very stable and the Sound relatively calm. The views, commentary and people you meet will facinate you. Thanks for tip Kerrie!!!

Just a 5-10 minute drive from the Picton-Wellington Ferries this water front motel is quiet and peaceful. Kerry is very hospitable and knowledgeable about the area. The unit was spotlessly clean and cosy. We stayed for one night on our way south and we were fortunate enough to be able to stay for 2 nights on our return. Love this place.

We arrived well before check in and were met with a friendly greeting and able to store our bags whilst we went into town. We were given a complimentary lift back to the accommodation, which was pristine on our arrival. The views and quiet location are fantastic. The shower room is the best that I have encountered in a NZ Motel. We opted for a continental breakfast for the first morning. A laden tray was delivered the evening before with more than enough for two large appetites. Mani and Kerri were so helpful, nothing seemed too much trouble. Were were given tips on a local restaurant with a cut through walkway which was really useful. I would strongly recommend a stay here.

We have stayed here many times during the past fifteen years, the last time was in 2015. This motel is in a wonderful position right at the waters edge with scenic uninterrupted views and 24/7 peace and quiet. Our two bedroom unit (No7) had everything that we needed. Our stay was enhanced even more by the very helpful and friendly attitude of all owners and staff that we met during our stay. We would never contemplate staying anywhere else when we are in Picton.

The 2 bedroom unit was the perfect choice for 2 couples staying in Waikawa bay to catch up with friends. The waterfront location and spotless unit made for a great long weekend. Rachel was cheerfully willing to help with any requests. Fully recommend staying here.

This is a small motel but worth every cent. The motel is in a beautiful location with fantastic views over the bay.
The room was spacious and tastefully decorated, filled with light and air from the large glass doors that face the water. It is disability accessible. The bed was very comfortable and there was outdoor seating.
It was great to see toiletry dispensing bottles in the bathroom to minimise plastic waste.
Rachel was very welcoming and helpful with good advice on things to do and where to eat.

We were welcomed upon arrival by Rachel, who was simply delightful to talk to and very helpful. We stayed 4 nights. Our room, although simply appointed (the way we like it….not too much clutter!) was clean and spacious. We had 2 bedrooms so that we could unpack in one bedroom and sleep in the other. The kitchen was well equipped with a large refrigerator and everything we needed to make breakfast and lunch. The “living room / dining room” looks out over the bay to the north, with lots of shorebirds and waterfowl to enjoy watching. It was quiet and we slept soundly. The bathroom was spacious and the shower was nice; however, the shower is not enclosed (but has a shower curtain) and much of the bathroom floor gets wet. However, it dries quickly. The windows and the sliding glass door could also use some screens.

We really liked the Bay Vista and recommend it; it is also very reasonably priced.

A weekend away after a couple of horrendous weeks
Was great to have accommodation with a beautiful view and it is quite peaceful
You can hear the ferry boats coming and going it’s not invasive plus they are quite awesome to watch as the they leave.
There is quite a lot of bird life. ,black swans, ducks, seagulls and tui.
The tide goes out quite a way so it’s good to go for a look on the beach area.
Our room was great
We were given a two bedroom unit.
There was a heater available to warm the unit and the spare bedroom had a heater on the wall.
There were plenty of extra blankets and pillows
The towels were changed each day.

The unit was clean and tidy
The bathroom had an unusual smell, if we shut the window it intensified.
So left the window open and closed the door.
So it wasn’t a problem

What lovely proprietors and a perfect overstay. They were very accommodating, a phone call to warn us of road delays on our travels was so helpful and unexpected. We were given dinning information and a list of walks that were available. Would definitely stay again.
