#2 of 25 B&Bs / Inns in Picton
Feel relaxed, warm and comfortable at Kippilaw House our guests often mention that they have walked in as guests and left us as friends. We are just a few minutes stroll to the waters edge of the Marlborough Sounds, cafes and various activities. Margaret is a professional chef/caterer of many years standing and loves sharing her recipes and experience in food. Bill is excellent passing on knowledge of the region things to do and see. Originally from the borders of Scotland he spent all his school holidays at Kippilaw Estate where his grandfather was the groom. We also operate a very well stocked deli Trailer at the Marlborough Farmers Market in Blenheim on Sundays where guests are most welcome to enjoy their breakfasts if staying Saturday night with us. We pride ourselves on good southern hospitality and place equal importance on the breakfast and the comfortable beds. Our point of difference is providing freshly sourced food with menus changing daily. Complementary afternoon tea is served at 3pm if you have not arrived this is left covered in your room. We make tasty interesting packed breakfasts for early travellers to take away.

I am an engineer who travels to Picton a lot, but only for one night at a time. I normally stay in the McCormick House, which is great accommodation and great hospitality. But what with the popularity of McCormick House, I was unable to get a reservation. So I decided to go to McKippilaw House, which people raved about. I have to say that i was left underwhelmed. The rooms were very old in style, and a little cold. At breakfast, the story was not much better. the scrambled eggs were cold and the orange juice almost as warm as tea. Otherwise good service by the proprietor, Bill. He was also very happy to talk to me about his motorbikes, which is also a fantasy of mine. Will book earlier to get myself into the McCormick House two blocks along next time.

Just had 3 amazing nights at Kippalaw house. A lovely break after the lock down. The room was spacious and was so well equipped and serviced. Very quite and with the lounge add on was a lovely place to enjoy a wine before dinner. Margaret and Bill were amazing hosts and very knowlegable about the area. We had breakfast each morning and dinner in the evening. The food was amazing and so much choice and nothing was a problem. I would highly recommend this property to anyone wanting that special break away. Thank you Margaret and Bill for making our break so special. We will be back.

I came to this place several times, and have left very good reviews (under a different alias). I stayed here in March 2020 and the bed linen was dirty. evidently had not been changed since the last person came here. You could see exactly where their derriere had been. I complained and was told in no uncertain terms that "it was in a better condition than when I last left it" meaning that I left the rooms dirtylast time.

This review of course didn’t happen we were in lock down. No guests were booked in all March April May and June 2020. If this malice was intended to do us damage. I’m sorry for the writer had to reduce yourself to such bad behaviour. Kippilaw House continues to offer experienced hospitality.services, please book direct and take advantage of the reduced charges. No commission to pay to booking companies. Kind wishes.

We really liked our 2 night stay here. Probably the best breakfast we had in NZ. Margaret makes the best pastries ever. Bill is the best host. Very accommodating. A special hello to the two doggies on site—Vinnie and Floyd. We had a very spacious room with a large bath. Bill even did a load of laundry for us. Thanks!
