Detailed Reviews
We stayed 2 nights - one when we arrived on the ferry and another night when we were leaving to go back to Wellington.
Both times we found the motel to be really clean, bed was comfortable and the room was a good size. Kitchenette was functional and had the usual things, microwave, toaster, kettle, cutlery, crockery, tea and coffee etc.
Bathroom was a good size and plenty of places in the vanity for personal items, shower was powerful.
The location was good as you just walked down the street to cafes, restaurants, shops etc. We found it to be very quiet and parking is right outside the unit.
Staff were friendly and helpful.

Location very close to township and over the road from a supermarket. Very close to the Ferry terminal, walking distance except for the elderly. Room very nice and the bed very comfortable. Train runs close by but the double glazing is excellent, and the noise was not an issue.

We had four nights booked and were welcomed by a pleasant lady on reception who told us we had been upgraded to a King Room. That sounded good but it appeared when we got in the room all that we got was a big bed and more space.
A very large shower cubicle was a bit strange and the bathroom overall was a bit tired and had an odour. The kitchenette was adequately tooled, only a microwave and hardly any working space to prepare anything. Seems we need to check in more detail what a kitchenette comprises, our mistake . Two TVs seemed a bit odd for a two person room but a settee was welcome. The lighting was another issue with yellow low watt bulbs making the room feel a dingy in the evening.
It wasn’t particularly quiet due to its location. Next to a car wash and petrol station which wasn’t a big problem . However, it backs onto the main train track from the ferries and that noise was quite intrusive. I suspect most places in the vicinity have noise from the train.
A few issues were sorted by the very helpful staff who were friendly and happy to help. Thanks for that.
Overall though it does what it says and as motel rooms go it functioned well without any extra sparkle.

We stayed in the 2 bedroom executive spa room and were disappointed as we thought it would be nice. The room was tired and needs updating and the drapes are not even on the floor to short. There were 2 different sofas in the room, dining table and coffee table were out dated. The bathroom was ok but does need modernising. When I rang for price of room I was quoted $195 per night 2 adults, when I booked on line. on there web site it was $169 per night. This room is not good value for money. When the train went through early morning the room vibrates. It is shame about this motel as it is in a very good location. Staff are very friendly.

Perfect Stopover accommodation. We stayed here just one night, prior to an early morning Ferry booking.
Our studio room was exceptionally clean, spacious and very comfortable. It was an extremely cold night but the heat pump kept us nice and warm. Excellent value for money, and would most certainly stay again on a quick trip or stopover.
We ate dinner at Scoozi across the road as it was so handy, we did not want to venture far in the cold, it does not look much from the exterior but we thoroughly enjoyed our meal.

The rooms are lovely, We had a sweet view out the back from a private terrace. Hosts are very helpful. Everything about the good sized unit was clean and attractive. This motel is easily accessed from the Interislander ferry, and is a short walking distance to pleasant main road shops in the quiet South Island town of Picton.

Let’s start with being electrocuted by the alarm clock which had frayed exposed electrical wiring. This warranted a discount in my view. They didn’t seem to care. TV Channels are all old school analogue MATV distribution meaning not all the NZ FTA channels were available. No kitchen to speak of. Again, capitalising on the high season summer Picton market means little care is given. Bed was good AC present. Over priced.

Response from Big_H_1, Manager at Broadway Motel
Responded 9 Jan 2020
Hi Taumarunu, I am really sorry to hear that you received a shock from the alarm clock, which is clearly unacceptable. When I was told about this I replaced it immediately and have also checked all the other rooms to ensure that there are no similar issues to this. It appears that the problem was caused by the bed being pushed back very hard against the wires, so we have now installed safety plugs so to prevent this ever happening again. When I spoke with you upon check out, you did not make an issue regarding the electric shock and I believed we had resolved this issue to your satisfaction. I am sorry to read that this does not appear to be the case. Regarding the TV channels, we have twelve digital channels coming in to the building, 5 of them are SKY channels. They are then converted to analogy, so that they can be distributed to all the rooms. This means it is simpler for our guests to operate the TV and only one remote required. All of our units have a kitchenette’s, as advertised, which consist of a toaster, jug, microwave and all the crockery and cutlery you will need. We do also offer hot plates at reception as advertised in the guest information book in each room. We do appreciate your feedback and look forward to seeing you in the future.

The good thing about the honeymoon suite are the views of the hills, trains, industrial area, supermarket/gas station and ferries, also has a spa bath and the balcony. I say that room can be used as a virtual background for MS Teams Meetings at work. I also managed to get a late check-out and referrals for calling a shuttle from the hotel to the train station, along with a helping hand, getting the 23kg luggage upstairs.
However, whoever put those energy efficient LED circular lights didn't do a good job with the finishing touches, it look like a cowboy renovation. Also, my unlimited 4G Internet is more reliable than the WiFi for Streaming content Ondemand (Sorry Sky, but it doesn't cut it, unless the All Black's are playing). However, thanks for allowing me to plug in my Apple TV device for streaming (some Hotels has disabled HDMI access). So if you don't have a deal with your mobile data provider, don't be streaming movies on their WiFi.

I forgot my wind jacket and had a Marlborough sounds cruise planned on the day of our arrival in Picton. The weather turned and got very very windy. The owner, I think Gill, was so kind to give me her wind jacket so I could enjoy the tour as I was generally chatting to her about our plans. I was so grateful, else it would have been a disaster for me. This going over and above just added to our comfortable stay to make it truly exceptional. We also slept hard and fast for the 2 nights there, the rooms were so comfortable. Even with the small kitchen, it had all amenities so we cooked 2 meals in the room too!
