Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A slice of History in Akaroa. January 2023 We fluked two nights at The Old Mill B&B when visiting Akaroa for which we were grateful! Our hosts were welcoming and informative in giving us a history of the Old Mill and its place in Akaroa's colourful past. The room was well appointed and comfortable with a continental breakfast provided. Judy leaves the breakfast makings in the fridge ready for guests when they please. We would recommend the B&B to anyone visiting Akaraoa. Incidentally , the hostess, Judy Curnow, is a noted local artist who hosts the Akaroa Art Gallery as well.

Exceptional. Quirky, cosy, spotlessly clean, comfortable, warm and the owners Judy and Alan delightful. Lovely, large garden that you are made welcome to explore. Will definitely return to this beautiful accomodation in a stunning corner of New Zealand North Island. Thank you, Lesley & Tom

The perfect, peaceful getaway. We stayed in the garden room. It was lovely, with everything we needed, clean, comfortable and charming. The garden was a real joy to wander around. We really felt welcome but left alone to enjoy all the beautiful surrounds.

Probably the best bnb I have stayed at over 40 years. Beautiful garden/bush area with lots of tuis, bellbirds, wood pigeons to hear and watch. Garden room en-suite nicely setup with all necessities like good shower products and heated floor in bathroom. Close to the little town where we ate at Thai restaurant. A wonderful stay.

We had a lovely stay but just to short! Beautiful gardens, lovely hosts who have thought of absolutely everything, great location and even a treat of local fudge in the fridge! We can’t wait to return for a couple of nights not just one. 🥰🙏🥂☺️

Absolutely beautiful stay. We stayed in the cottage. Scrabble by the fire, luxurious bedding and bedroom, really interesting/cool ensuite. The only thing I searched for and couldn't find was a hot water bottle, so I recommend you do bring your own as even with the fire she can be a very cold old cottage. Otherwise the property is complete perfection.

We were staying in the Garden Room rather than the Cottage itself. It is ideal for a couple - beautifully decorated and very clean and warm. Great tea and coffee facilities, and a well thought-out breakfast is provided. The lack of cooking facilities is a bonus - one doesn't need to feel guilty about eating out! The shower is awesome. Free Netflix too. Judy is a delightful host, and the garden is very private, tranquil and extensive.

We stayed three nights in beautiful garden room. Perfect for a couple with wonderful outside sheltered seating area to enjoy breakfast or picnic dinner in quiet garden - we were joined by several fan tail birds flitting among the vines. Breakfast of coffee, herbal teas, Greek yoghurt, blueberries, toast and jams. Perfect. Close in to township to enjoy attractions. Safe and highly recommended.

My partner and I stayed 2 nights in the Garden room. Everything has been tastefully done. The decoration is so stylish. Everything has been thought of. The shower is just amazing. We woke to the birds singing. I even recorded it, it was just so magical. The Mill Cottage has also been beautifully decorated. The garden is a joy to walk around in and the little stream running around the property, makes it truly one of the most beautiful gardens. I just loved all the native birds. From big fat wood pigeons, Tui and Bellbirds. We went for several walks near by and it's an easy walk into town. Judy and Alan are the most incredible hosts. They know all the best restaurants to go to and all the local activities. I felt our stay was truly a privilege and we both felt very lucky to have experienced such a magical place. Couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Mill Cottage in Akaroa has got to be the best place to stay by far. It is tended by a lovely couple who take care of you through your stay and aid you in any way needed. The cottage is located down a side street meaning it is quiet, serene and has a beautiful atmosphere. It is perfectly placed among the town easy to access the beach and one main road. It has a luxurious garden and facilities for up to 5 people to stay. There is also a garden room perfect for a couple to stay which is detached from the actual cottage.
