Park up to this cottage and you see an amazing view which is seen from every room in the cottage. Thoughtfully furnished throughout and kitchen is stocked with everything you need. Sit on the covered veranda nestled in native bush with fantails, bell birds chirping. Have your wine cheese and bbq and relax. A short walk down drive takes you to a walkway through bush down to Childrens Bay and onto Akaroa. We will come back again to enjoy this lovely cottage.

We stayed at Cherrywood Cottage, which is 2 bedroom and one of maybe 10 dwellings on this extensive property. Situated in a gully located just before Akaroa by road. The location and proximity to the township either works for you or it doesn’t.
The purpose of our overnight stay was for time out and reflection. The native birdsong, view and isolation that Cherrywood offers, along with the comfort was perfect for this
Upsides
• Very efficient heating - essential unless in the height of summer
• Amazing birdsong
• Lovely view
• Well equipped overall (no oven)
• Private
• Off-road walking track into township
• Overall, clean, tidy and cosy.
Downsides
• Being located in a south facing gully, surrounded by trees (thus the birdsong), you will see the sun in the distance but it will never shine on you at this property.
• Great views from inside the cottage were sadly obscured by seriously dirty windows. I’d say they hadn’t been cleaned for quite some time.
• Corner shower, perfect for little people
• forget the bbq - unless you want to clean it first
If you are looking for a charming and secluded retreat, with services a short drive or longer walk away, you’ve found the ideal place,

Absolutely great spot! Great walks nearby. Close enough to walk to Akaroa township and very quiet. Birdsong woke us & there were no neighbours. Clean with recent renovations. Wood burner, electric convection heater and heat pump! Easy booking and checking in system

This was to be one of the highlights of our trip to NZ but turned out to be a nightmare. We travelled with another couple, thought we had 2 separate studios but had one key via our room, had to share kitchen equipment.... gas fireplace & heater didn't work in our friends room so we had to leave open the joining door for heating for them (we noted in the guests book that this heater had not been working for months prior) Our friends tried unsuccessfully to get help from Backcare who we found out were the letting agents (booked via Bookings.com) 3pm Fri and finally a local agent arrived Sat morning with heater..... Unfortunately our last night our gas heater ran out of gas! The rooms were not very clean - there was food & dead insects on the floors & mould on the bedheads. The beautiful views but will be "un-see-able" soon if the gardens are continued to be unpruned.

Little charming cottage, with outstanding views and tasteful decorations, away from the noise in very private setting. Highly recommended for a weekend getaway. In good weather, it is truly beautiful spot, and has everything you need handy

Nice tranquil quiet place with oddles of bellbirds. The cottage was clean and well-equipped. The shower was great.
We had issues with the main bed which was giving up. If that was replaced, we'd consider coming back in the near future.

This facility is perfectly placed for those who want to get away. I spend a lot of time in hotels around the world so these cottages were a welcome relief. The management and Rick are lovely and very helpful. Highly recommended.

It's not that often we have time together, looking at the description and pictures a chance of a romantic cottage was appealing. On entering the weighbridge cottage my heart sunk, it looked no better than a sleep-out. It is not possible to view individual cottage rooms from the photos on the web site. The cottage is descibed as 4.5 star I fail to see how it got this rating. The cottage is tired and shabby, enough wood for 3 to 4 hrs, broken heated towel rail, shower over bath was hard to regulate. Bath robes were more like cardboard, one of the bed lamps had the bulb pocking out the top, budget furniture, what looked like a past it's use by date aircon unit that was dusty and had a board and picture covering the front. The steep driveway is in need if re leveling and lighting is non existing. On departure the only question I was asked was had I used the mini bar? If I thought I could have got a refund I would have gone to a motel. All in all we feel mislead by the advertising and wasted $170 and a nice weekend stay, the bush cottages ratings should be down graded to 2 star, I will never go again.

I am very sorry to hear you were disappointed with your stay with us, Both our bush-view cottages are able to be viewed via our website. The pictures available on-line show what the room is all about. We do this so you know what you are buying as they do not suit everybody. We are having both these units upgraded over the winter. i agree with all you points and am hoping to have all these addressed on upgrade. The driveway Christchurch City care whom are contracted to have repaired this over 3 months ago have postponed 3 times now for the repair. Should you have any complaints or suggestions when departing whether asked or not please let us know as sometimes things can be missed and go unseen by the maintenance unless we know. I really do hope you will come back and stay with us and i would possibly suggest one or our Seaview Cottages next time. Take care

My husband and I stayed here for one night as part of a trip to Akaroa to celebrate his birthday. Our cottage (bush view) was clean and comfortable but did not live up to the photos on the website.
Given that it was called a 'bush view' cottage, I was expecting romantic seclusion. In reality, the cottage was only about 10 or so metres from the gravel road that guests use to get round the property, and when we sat outside, we could clearly hear the conversation of the guests in the cottage next to ours and behind some trees. In addition, there was no outdoor furniture (unlike what is shown on the website) so we had to drag the indoor seats outside to sit on the deck. None of this was a big deal but it just wasn't what I was expecting/hoping for, especially after having viewed the website. In terms of the overall location, the property is very handy to Akaroa but it's nice to be just out of town.
When you pay $180 a night, you expect to get something special. Our cottage had some very nice touches, like the curtains, the log burner, and the flowers in the vase on the table. But the kitchen unit was somewhat tatty and had chips in the paint and woodwork, the tiles around the bath/shower had a grubby black edge where they met the bathtub and were peeling in places, and the toilet roll holder in the loo had obviously come off or been taken off the wall at some point, and the resulting hole had merely been filled with putty and not even painted over. Same with a spot on the bathroom wall where something had obviously been removed or perhaps the wall had been damaged - just putty and no paint job.
All little things, but they gave the cottage a scruffy edge and it didn't make for the luxurious feel shown in the Akaroa Cottages (selective) website photos.
A key reason we booked the cottage was for the spa bath. We had a lovely spa bath about 2/3 full around 4:30pm before getting ready to go out for dinner and planned to have another on our return approx. 4 hours later at 8:30pm. However, there was no hot water - not a drop. We were very disappointed and my husband mentioned it to the somewhat cool receptionist when we checked out. The response was simply "Oh, your cottage is the only one that doesn't have gas", and then a blank stare. No apology. We wondered why it hadn't occurred to them to tell us when we checked in that we'd only get one spa and then the hot water would be gone. Lucky we shared the spa we did have.
We left feeling like we had been given the scruffiest/worst cottage of the lot, and although our stay was comfortable enough, we really did not feel that we got value for the money we paid.

We loved our stay at the cottages. The room was so warm and cosy, had everything we needed inside and had the best view in the morning! The highlight was their manager, Rick. He went out of his way to make our stay special. We arrived late as we drove down after work, and unfortunately our car pretty much broke down. He drove us in to town so we could have dinner and then came to pick us up again! We did not expect this but he was more than happy to. He made our night :) Thank you. We will be back.
