Detailed Reviews
We had one overnight stay at the fabulous Beaufort House in Akaroa which on arrival looked beautiful set in gorgeous gardens and stepping inside was just as wonderful. The many antiques, paintings and marine collectibles create a relaxing ambiance to totally unwind amidst luxurious surroundings. Our hosts Noel and Sharon made us very welcome and with such genuine hospitality that we soon felt 'at home', almost like long lost friends! The suites are spacious with top quality amenities, gorgeous bedding and towels and we felt like we were in a 5 star exclusive Lodge (without a $1800 price tag). Breakfast was delicious and substantial. Thank you Noel and Sharon for making my birthday so memorable. You are great hosts and we had a truly lovely stay ❤

We stayed for 3 nights at Beaufort House at the end of our 9 week holiday in New Zealand. The house, which is only a few minutes walk from the village centre is fabulous, full of treasures carefully displayed and our room was full of character and spotlessy clean. Sharon and Noel's hospitality go one step further than an ordinary B&B by inviting all the guests to join them for a drink and canapes in the evening and the breakfasts round an enormous table were a feast!
Both were really helpful with suggestions of good walks and places to eat.

Set in its own grounds with a sun deck which catches the afternoon/evening sun and the air filled with birdsong. They also have a small vineyard. We had a lovely room with two windows looking out over the garden to the sea. Very comfortable bed. Decor is period in both the bedrooms and the lounge/dining room which can make it challenging at times. It was so warm we opened the windows and then the door rattled loudly so we worried about disturbing everyone else. Drinks in the bathroom but it was fiddly to use the kettle as there was nowhere to stand it without moving items on display on shelves and there's no fridge in the room - it's outside on the verandah!!. Parking is also a little tight if all the rooms are occupied - it's up a steep drive with little turning space. It's about a 10min stroll into town downhill.
Breakfast was comprehensive and cooked to order and we were even catered for when we had to leave early to drive back to the airport. Friendly and welcoming host, but there was a slight mix up with our booking, which fortunately was sorted.

Thank you for your review Julie and pleased you enjoyed your stay with us in Akaroa. Beaufort House C1878 is furnished in the style of the era with a French/European theme complimenting the property yet every item is practical and has a purpose. We do not profess to be a modern hotel, fridges take up unnecessary room and are often noisy - we do provide a guest fridge for those guests who have purchased wine and cheese on their travels... most properties in Akaroa do not have off street parking, Beaufort House is able to accommodate 5 cars onsite. The evening complimentary drinks & canapes are a wonderful opportunity to meet other guests/travellers. Best wishes Sharon & Noel

Sharon is a collector and this house is full of wonderful china, memorabilia, and paintings - some with a marine flavour - since Noel is a formidable long distance sailor. We were there for one night in the quaint town of Akaroa, with its French street names. The house dates back to the 1870s, less than 40 years after the French arrived in 1840. It is in beautiful condition and the garden has trees that date back to those days. We were given tea on arrival in the Victorian parlour, and guidance to three restaurants. We were happy with the recommendation. Our only comment was that the bedroom was small, but it was a function of the date of the house. We had a large period bathroom in compensation. It was quiet and we slept very well. Noel hosted us for breakfast and he was charming. His tales of his recent sail across the world to NZ from the Med via Panama was full of interest. Lovely breakfast in every respect - right up to proper Wedgwood china for our tea. Thank you!

I so enjoyed reading your review Michael! It was interesting and informative! Yes, the bedrooms are all different as you say, due to the historical nature and configuration of the house. Originally there was only one bathroom upstairs and room has been taken from various areas to accommodate the modern requirement of an ensuite. Trust you continued down memory lane ...from those days of your first visit to New Zealand! Best wishes Sharon & Noel

We stayed 3 nights at Beaufort House and enjoyed our stay. The house was built in the 1870’s and has been converted to a bed and breakfast whilst preserving its character. Set on a hillside with neatly arranged gardens and a small vineyard, it also has the original servant’s quarters.
An extensive continental and cooked breakfast will set you up for the day. Drinks and canapés add another level to the experience.
Thanks to Sharon and Noel.

+1
My family and I had the most memorable couple of days/nights in Akaroa and staying at Beaufort House was truly a five star holiday in itself! Sharon and Noel were such gracious friendly hosts and we were thoroughly pampered from the moment we arrived. The house is so beautifully adorned with historic treasures everywhere you look and lovely thoughtful extras were provided in each of our rooms. The care and personal attention we received made us feel very special. The best thing about our stay is having such a royal breakfast together each morning in the grandest of dining rooms, the magnificent spread Sharon had put together and custom created for each guest will blow your mind! We also loved the drinks and canapés that were prepared for us each evening. Sharon’s recommendations on eateries and activities are also very spot on. We will be back for sure and I will not hesitate to recommend Beaufort House to anyone looking to holiday in Akaroa :)

We stayed in this delightful House for three nights, after a long trip through the South Island, staying variously in apartments and motels. Sharon and Noel have created the most wonderful oasis of calm, and we felt so much at home, that it was difficult to leave. They are both full of ideas and suggestions of things to do, and places to eat - if you need help it is gently given. Breakfast was a total delight, freshly prepared each morning, and no sense of having to rush. Drinks on the terrace each evening we’re wonderful, a great opportunity to meet fellow travellers and to hear their tales. Beaufort House is a treasure trove of wonderful and quirky things, collected by Sharon and proudly displayed. Each piece has its own story - we hope you have the time to linger and enjoy.

Thank you for your thoughtful review! We so enjoyed your company, laughter and stories abounded over the days you were at Beaufort House. Noel and I are both collectors and each piece does have a story, Noel with his nautical items and Sharon with items suiting the era of the house. Safe travels and look forward to meeting up again :)

This B&B is the perfect accommodation if you want to be walkable to Akaroa but away from the restaurants and motels downtown. Surrounded by old trees and well kept gardens, this B&B is noteworthy for its outstanding hospitality. For instance, they host a 6:00 pm gathering for all of their guests complete with cold drinks and homemade hors d'oeuvres. We met interesting couples from all over the world. Breakfast is a delight with continental fare, fresh baked croissant and / or an English breakfast. My wife and I, inveterate travelers, rate Beaufort House as our all time favorite B&B.

Beaufort House - an exceptional place to stay complimented by the most warm welcoming hosts - Sharon & Noel. Waking up to bellbirds and tui's, beautiful mature gardens, quiet location yet within walking distance to town centre, delicious local food served and an impressively historic house furnished with lovley antiques.
We highly recommend staying at the Beaufort House - it will make for a truly unforgettable couple of days away.
