For my mothers 60th Birthday we stayed at L'Abri with Jane. It was absolutely perfect.
Everything is so well cared for and presented, immaculate rooms and incredible gardens, my Mum is a gardener and she loved spending the day walking through the gardens finding so many hidden treasures.
Jane is lovely and goes out of her way to make you feel welcomed and the breakfast was delicious. From the kitchen window there is a nectar bird feeder where we were able to watch Tui's and Bellbirds feeding.
Our rooms were luxurious and beautiful with very comfortable beds and had a fantastic view looking out to the harbour.
Akaroa is such a fantastic little town, with its mix of French and New Zealand architecture, although if you are walking through we suggest taking a map as we did get a bit lost exploring the side streets of town. We must also recommend the real fruit ice-creams on the water front.
We felt so comfortable and pampered. It was the perfect place to celebrate and spend some family time together.
We will definitely be back!
Thank you so much from Anne, Sue and Hazel

We stayed recently at L’abri B&B, and what a delightful experience it was.
Jane is a friendly and very hospitable lady, her priority is to ensure that you have an enjoyable stay. We certainly did ! Our bedroom had the wonderful view of Takamatua Bay, where we sat on the terrace and enjoyed our complimentary wine and delicious cheeseboard. Jane’s home is beautifully decorated, with fine bedlinen and toiletries.
Our breakfast next morning was sumptuous! Everything was homemade - croissants, yoghurt, poached fruit and muesli, followed by a beautiful cooked breakfast made with fresh eggs from her property.
It was a memorable overnight stay, and I would highly recommend L’abri as a special destination.

Very pretty place with beautiful flowers. Well decorated and equipped to meet travelers needs. Travelers should be aware Akaroa is not within walking distance, the cottage has a weak WiFi signal and the TV connection is temperamental. Great place to relax and get away from life’s stresses.

Response from JaneLabri, Owner at L'Abri

Thank you for your review. I would like to say to people reading this that the cottage is in a garden setting with wonderful views of the hills and a small view of the sea. This has very comfortable amenities. It usually attracts people who are keen on walking and not just spending time sitting in the cottage watching television as these guests did for a large part of the week they were here. So walking to akaroa is a lovely activity, being able to do this without walking on any major roads. One of the farmers has created a beautiful walking track for this purpose. I'm afraid the television is temperamental IF YOU DONT LOOK AT THE REMOTE while changing channels. I know his as I had to continually go and reset the set! We are in a hill country area and on the cruise ship days wifi is under a tremendous pressure for the entire area. I did explain this but this guest just needed to state this again on the public forum. Bob, in this country we are respectful of other people's property. That means you were NOT welcome to help yourself to half the apple crop from one of my trees. We have a word beginning with S for this.

In addition to the 5 stars qualities other reviewers have mentioned.. we would like to say this is our third visit to. L’Abri. - we keep returning. Not only because Jane is a perfect host and accommodation always exceeds our expectations , but the house has a great outlook from the dining room , breakfast is wonderful - fresh eggs from the free range hens and fruit and preserves from the garden. Wildlife, both in the garden and along the shore, walks around the area are always rewarding for the observant. There is a lovely walk into Akaroa via an unusual sculpture park. Jane’s mature garden has great walnut trees and a lovely variety of flowers and shrubs growing on an undulating hillside. All designed to enhance the environment of the house. We stayed in the delightful Garden Cottage which we love, the little kitchen is useful for simple meals and a glass of wine on the private deck surrounded by lavender and roses. Just the best!

Our host, Jane, was really lovely and the cottage was cozy with a great fan heater. Being August we were a little concerned about accommodation heating, but it was really comfortable. The breakfast was awesome, with home made muesli and fruit, and local smoked salmon with free range eggs from Jane's own chooks. Only 3km from Akaroa, it was really handy to all amenities and shops. We would highly recommend L'abri B&B for a lovely stay.

The self contained garden cottage was just perfect giving us the privacy and restful surroundings to recover from our two day journey from Wales, UK. Every window looks out onto the garden, the mountains or the bay in the distance, so you really feel at one with nature whilst the night skies are a sight to behold with the Milky Way clearly visible . The little veranda is a beautiful suntrap with garden chairs. A big plus is that there is a washing machine as well as the small kitchen, sitting area and big comfy bed. Breakfast was served in the house, two minutes walk away and was beautifully presented and prepared by Jane, the host, in the dining room with panoramic views over the bay and mountains beyond. There is an adjoining, communal lounge area with the same views but we were happy to stay snug in our little cottage.. When we ventured out we were blown away by the Summit Road drive which led us to a deserted Le Bon Beach, a wonderful memory of our first day in NZ.. Highly recommend taking a sailing trip on Fox II to see the Hector dolphins

This is a luxurious place to stay and the host, Jane, was lovely to deal with. The rooms were very comfortable and beautifully furnished. There was a gorgeous view of the harbour.
Breakfast was delicious, all made from Jane's home produce: eggs of any kind, fresh and stewed fruit, jams and muesli. There were even home-made almond cookies beside our bed, to have with a cup of tea when we arrived.

Beautiful luxurious accommodation with sea views and an amazing garden. Everything was thought of with no short cuts on quality, luxurious Linden leaves products to use in the big private bathroom, high quality bed linen with gel underlay, China cups and a nespresso maker with accompanying shortbread and chocolates. The breakfast was restaurant quality using fresh eggs from the pet chickens and local salmon. Our host Jane was super lovely and welcoming. We had to pinch ourselves that we had not died and gone to heaven while walking through her garden of Eden. A true luxurious retreat. Will definately return for another stay and great value for money.

One of the nicest B&B’s in New Zealand. It is our 3rd stay and we still marvel at its beautiful views. Jayne is a fantastic host and her breakfasts a delight.
Rooms are really comfortable and there is a lovely lounge in which to relax and enjoy the views.
It’s conveniently placed with a five minute drive into Akaroa a quaint old French settlement on the water.
