We've already booked our return trip ! Thank you for being such an outstanding host and hostess and making our holiday SO very special .
An unbelievably romantic getaway ...from the babbling brook and baaa-ing sheep, to the sunset and the stars, to the outdoor tub! We made eggs on the outdoor grill. We dined on the porch in candlelight. The kitchen was stocked with wonderful coffee, fresh fruit and the refrigerator was full. The beautifully decorated and comfortable big bed and room was so cozy, even flowers in a pitcher. The absolute highlight of our month in New Zealand. We'll never forget it. Our hosts were warm and friendly but gave us our privacy. Internet worked in the main house. But who needed that?!
My mother got us a spot in the shearers hut for a night as a Christmas present My wife and i stayed her it was very beautiful such a magical little spot the sound of the creek running was very relaxing. The bed was so comfy we slept like angles In the morning we had a nice walk up to the waterfall and meet a friendly lamb on the way back Couldn't recommend this place enough ! Regards Duane and Hannah
During a 3 week trip to New Zealand this was by far mine and my husband’s favourite accommodation. We stayed in the Shepherds Hut which is just like heaven for anyone who wants a rustic retreat! We took the lovely 20min walk to the waterfall and met all of the fab dogs. Kathrine and Hugh were friendly and welcoming hosts who went out of their way to make sure we were happy and comfortable. Nothing negative at all - I was so sad to leave!
Lying in the outdoor bath listening to the bubbling creek and birdsong whilst staring at a huge wall of greenery is a truly special experience. The hut, though small was well appointed with everything we needed and more. There were home-baked biscuits, herbal teas, woollen blankets to wrap around ourselves on the deck in the evenings, bacon and eggs to cook up on the BBQ, and a pincic set for fish and chips at the beach. The only possible downsides (which could be upsides for some) are no wi-fi or TV in the hut (wi-fi is available at the main house), an outside toilet (in a small shed next to the hut - slip on shoes are useful here for night-time loo trips), and the need to drive into Akaroa township. Kathrine is lovely, and her blackboard-written suggestions for the area spot-on. I suspect we'll be back. …
