Thank you for accommodating our family in both the studio cabin & the larger family cabin over Xmas & New Years.

Both cabins were very well presented, clean & tidy, & suited our needs perfectly.

The family cabin with it's extra space including the cooking & bathroom facilities really helped us to fully unwind & really enjoy our stay at the campground.

The family cabin had comfortable beds & bedding, a good amount of kitchenware available, & an excellent powerful shower just make it unbeatable value for money

With just a short walk to the village & with it's view from the hill it's a great spot. Also, nice to see a lot of happy families enjoying the holiday park over Xmas as well.

Can't wait to visit again at Xmas 2020 :-)

Enjoyed our 3 night stay at this popular holiday park in Akaroa. Staff work hard to maintain facilties. Wifi reception poor and slow and kitchena bit short on cooking utensils. Top10 seems to expect you to provide your own, but thats a bit difficult when travelling internationally.

Hi KevinH6769, Thank you for the review, and we apologise for the poor wifi, but because we do not supply it we cannot fix the occasional issues that crop up. The problem at that time has since been fixed by the provider.

Wonderful location, with easy access down to the township via a set of steps which are well lit at nighttime, but would recommend having a torch handy after sundown.

The only issues we had was that The kitchen area was closed from 10:30am til after 1pm on - what I expect is - one of your peak days over the new year period. We are unsure when the kitchen finally reopened as we had waited until 1pm (as advised by the staff) to do our morning dishes But gave up as it was still closed at this time & went exploring the area instead. Same closure with the bathrooms on this day, I am unsure what the issue was as to why it took so long, but having spoke to other campers on this day, they were not happy!

Paying for bbq tokens for 30minute use is also a novelty, unless this a process that has been implemented across all top 10s over the last year, This is the first time We have come across this & we have stayed in top 10s across the South Island from te anau to Picton. For the price as well, the bbqs were almost unusable due to how unclean they were.

Would definitely stay again, but just be more prepared & aware of closing times of the facilities to plan the day around.

Hi prendergast13, We thank you for your comments, and apologise for the delay in getting the kitchen and bathroom facilities cleaned that particular day. This was a very busy day and an unusual number of guests had not left the park during the usual cleaning time which has to be after the 10 am check out, and an unexpected staff shortage didn't help. Re the bbq's, we do try to keep them cleaned, but it does prove difficult to have someone available to do so every time someone finishes using them, especially if guests do not make any attempt to clean them. Not charging for the bbq has been tried, but guests then tend to spend more time cooking which prevents others from using them.

First the good aspects:
It is indeed walking distance to the village with a tough hike on the way back.
It has interesting views of the sea and mountains.
If you are desperate for electricity it has powered sites.
But.....
It is a big parking disguised as a camping site. Vans and tents are on the top of each other. Totally indecent!!
Main facilities, toilets, showers and kitchen close at 10 until 1 everyday, as well as the reception....!!
To summarize, they take the maximum money and deliver the minimum service. Horrible place for nature lovers!!
We escaped to a place 20mns away, no electricity which is absolute paradise....

Hi papymaster24 Whilst we appreciate the time you have taken to express your opinion of our park, we have to say that it is not the view of the vast majority of our reviewers. It may be that you would have prefered a quieter DOC camp than a busy park such as ours is in peak season? If so perhaps considering only visiting a busy park like ours in the quieter off season is an option?

I booked a self contained motel unit for two (for 3 nights) after looking closely at the photos on their website. While the view was amazing, just as the photos show, and kitchen/bedroom area was perfectly clean and appeared to have been recently painted, the bathroom in no way resembled the website photo but was obviously very old. However it was still clean and functional and not worth grumbling about, apart from being misled by the website photo.
But the fridge was diabolical. For our three night stay I had taken a good supply of fresh vegetables and fruit. Next morning, they were all frozen and totally ruined. I knew then why the fridge motor had been running continuously all night and kicking up such a din. Turning the fridge control back from the maximum setting, should have solved the problem, but next night the noise from it still resulted in little sleep. Of course the obvious answer was to turn the wall switch off - but it is behind the fridge, and it was on the third night that we finally pulled the fridge out to turn it off completely.
On leaving at 9.30am I intended to report the problem at the office, but at 9.30am the door was locked with no one in attendance.
After returning home, I filled in the questionnaire that arrived by e-mail from the Top 10 establishments, explaining our disappointments with the unit. That was several days ago and I have had no response.
We were in Unit 4. There is also a problem with the water supply in that the water squeals through the pipes when used in the next unit. Not pleasant late at night.

Hi Doreen B, We do apologise for the over cold setting on the fridge, and thank you for bringing it to our attention, one must assume that the previous guests must have turned it down and the cleaners have forgotten to check it, so we will ensure this does not happen again. But there seems to be nothing wrong with the fridge as it is new. It is a shame you didn't report it the next morning because if you had we could have reset it. As far as I can determine there was an urgent issue to sort out early Thurs am when you departed that required the staff's attention. But there is an intercom phone at the office door that allows a guest to contact the park staff for help. Re the noisy pipe, we are investigating that as it is not a complaint we have had before, and so far have not been able to identify the noise, but thank you for mentioning it, we will continue looking for a cause. This park had ample shower and toilet facilities. The kitchen was well equipped with sinks, stoves and prep areas. Plenty of areas for tents, caravans, and motorhomes. There are some beautiful views of Akaroa, and energetic people could walk to the township.

Akaroa Top 10 Holiday Parks is like most other Top 10 parks around the country and has generally very good amenities that are well maintained, and fairly modern. We stayed just the one night and had a great spot overlooking the harbor and village. Quiet and fun for the kids. I’d definitely come back here again.

There are no pots or pans or cutlery cutlery in the kitchen. We were in a cabin not a camper van so had nothing to use and we were not told at check in. Head Office for Top Ten said it is NOT company policy but up to individual properties.

Stayed at Akaroa Top 10 for one night in a standard cabin. Had to use amenities like toilets showers kitchen and laundry. The park is obviously an older one and could do with an upgrade especially the showers. I had to wait for my shower at 8am not complaining but 4 showers in a block doesn't seem enough to be honest. There was a TV, fridge and jug in our room but the table and chairs were outside table and chairs which were quiet uncomfortable for watching TV on I had to use my pillow to sit on.

Hi jsnow556146, Thank you for your comments, but I would like to point out that there are actually 6 showers in both the male & female main ablution blocks, and four more in the upper ablution block, making a total of 16. Re cabin chairs, in order to keep campground cabins affordable they are by design small and therefore cannot accommodate large easy chairs. But we do have fully self contained motels with comfortable chairs and couches.
