Brendon and Gail gave us a warm welcome when we arrived. The room was clean and had all the amenities needed. The breakfast was well prepared by Gail, and it was very delicious. They also recommended a good restaurant for our dinner, which was delicious too. We felt very impressive during our stay here.

Absolutely recommend this fantastic B&B with several private and wonderful rooms to choose from - I looked at so many when booking and was very happy we stumbled upon Newton Heights on Instagram (the photos are good but they really don't do it justice - it is really lovely and there is some wonderful NZ art on display. The actual home is a very new large architecturally designed residence perched on the hill (nice as it was warm with lovely new bathrooms) with stunning breakfast terrace views to admire and soak in (was also perfect for when we were having wine and cheese on our private terrace before venturing out for supper and our room had views of the harbour). Gail and Brendan are happy to give excellent restaurant recommendations (Mandala was our favourite). There is a lovely shared courtyard/terrace on the other side where you can sit in the sun /or under the shade (or nestle by the fireplace presumably in winter) and there is a jacuzzi/spa to soak in should you want to enjoy a hot tub. The rooms are a good size with all the trimmings (robes + tea/coffee + chocolates (go for the NZ Whittakers mini-chocolates if you haven't tried them) and they are flexible with when you want breakfast which my mum said was her absolute highlight - we all enjoyed (perhaps Dad the most) the never-ending fully cooked breakfast with eggs/omelet/coffees/tea (whatever you want) and if you are still hungry pastries, fresh berries with homemade muesli ... it really was fantastic and we dined on the terrace overlooking the harbour and chatted to the other guests (there were some lovely friendly Americans staying who were lively conversationalists). Gail and Brendan really are excellent and seasoned hosts, they are lovely, kind, very knowledgeable, and enjoyable to chat with, but also know when to leave the guests to settle in and enjoy the facilities. Was a great experience and have recommended this place to friends and family. Akaroa is a charming getaway not far from Christchurch (2 hours-ish drive) but it is worth booking somewhere this nice as it really enhanced the whole trip - we absolutely loved it. See you next summer Newton Heights - Best, Sarah X Ps. They sorted out the parking so was good to have a safe spot for the cars right next to the B&B (it is also down a private style road so safe and secure).

We loved our stay at Newton Heights. The room was lovely, the communal spaces very stylish and with a great view of the harbour. Breakfast was sumptuous and made to order. But what really made our stay so special was our hosts Gail and Brendan. They welcomed us into their lovely home and made us feel like family. We really enjoyed our chats and the odd glass of wine! Thank you for a wonderful stay and we hope to see you in London sometime!

Landing at a Newton Heights after a long flight and a short drive from Christchurch to Acaroa was a blessing. I did not know what to expect, but was absolutely floored by the warm welcome and hospitality from Gail and Brendon who look after each and every guest personally. The rooms were clean, comfortable and the place has all the facilities including Wi-Fi. The hosts are extremely helpful and you could spend hours talking to them if you want to know more about the history. The town is quaint and there is enough to do in the area to keep you busy for at least 3-4 days without tiring yourself. I would highly recommend Newton Heights to anyone anytime.

From the moment we arrived, we knew we'd love our stay at Newton Heights. Gail and Brendon greeted us warmly and we were immediately struck by the stunning beauty of this spot. The views are spectacular, the accommodations and the home are amongst the best I've seen, the breakfast is next level and the company is wonderful. We stayed in the Bellbird room. This room had a super comfortable bed with a luxurious mattress topper that made it feel like you were sleeping on a cloud. The room had everything we needed: bottled water (still and sparking), daily fresh towels, robes, personal toiletries and even a little dish of chocolate treats. There was also a kettle for tea/coffee, but we didn't use this as we spent most of our time chatting with Bendon and Gail in the lovely living spaces. Breakfast was world class. Gail makes everything from scratch: from the croissants to the jam and the tomato relish: all made in Gail's kitchen. I'd honestly rate this as one of the best breakfasts (if not possibly THE best breakfast) I've ever had. We stayed 3 nights and were genuinely sad to leave. We arrived as strangers but left feeling like we'd made some genuinely good friends in Brendon and Gail. It was the highlight of our trip to NZ and for anyone looking for a spot to base themselves in Akaroa, you won't be disappointed with Newton Heights.

I enjoyed a bed and breakfast with Brendan and Gail in July 2022. The evening was comfortable, friendly and at times hilarious as Gail told stories of growing up on a Canterbury farm which during WW2 became a military air base.

Welcoming and friendly hosts! Gail and Brendan are friendly and accommodating, as are the neighbours Liz and Jim who looked after us also during our stay. Breakfast and coffee is served to order and preference at a time to suit. The beds are comfortable and bedding is quality with a nice feel. We stayed in the fantail room however all rooms looked good and have their own bathroom attached. Stunning scenery from the property with panoramic views. Nice spa pool to relax in post hike! Great position, nice accommodation. Just a short 5-10 minutes walk down hill to Akaroa shops.

We are nearing the end of our 3 night stay at this beautiful Akaroa Bed and breakfast. Gail and Brendan are the consummate hosts. We have been made to feel so welcome in their beautiful home. It’s an architectural masterpiece and filled with wonderful collectables , many of them sourced in France. Decor throughout is to a very high standard. The bedrooms are beautiful and the beds so comfortable. Whenever we returned back to the house Gail greeted us with an offer of coffee, tea or wine. Brendan was an excellent tour guide giving us many ideas of places to visit. Last but not least are the most amazing breakfasts served on the terrace overlooking the harbour. The freshest of home grown ingredients used to make the most delicious food. This is a place that we have rarely come across in terms of a complete experience. We highly recommend staying here.
