I have just returned from a 3 night stay at Red Roofs and it was OK. I would have to say that it was nothing particularily special but nothing to complain about, either. Located right in the Old Town, opposite St Johns Church, it is the ideal location for exploring the city. The 2 girls I dealt with were pleasant and spoke good English and the reception was manned 24hrs a day. My room was small - about 2 metres by 2 metres, with just a bed, wardrobe, small table and small sofa but it was warm and clean. The breakfast wasn't great, 2 choices of cereal, 2 cold meats, some cheese and yoghurt, with coffee from the machine in reception and some bread. As a cheap option - 16 Lats per night - it was fine and if I visit Riga again, then I would bear this place in mind.

We had a wonderful time in Red Roofs Hotel - stayed for our honeymoon. The staff was amazing nothing was to much trouble! Clean and comfortable rooms. Warmly recommend. Also we wish to recommend family restaurant Alibi near the hotel. It’s very tasty grilled dishes in Latvian traditional style and romantic atmosphere. We tried grilled venison with peas puree and red wine sauce. It was fantastic taste.

I stayed here in a single room with shared bathroom for just one night.

The bathroom was a really bathroom, not a dorm bath. Very clean. Felt like I was staying in a room in someone's country manor instead of a hostel, though I was paying hostel prices.

Incredibly cute room. Possibly the cutest room I've ever stayed in. Modern medieval? I think that the bed may have been shorter than a normal-length bed (just like they are when you pay money to see those really old mansions and palaces and you wonder whether people were just way shorter a long time ago). Luckily, I'm only 5'1" so a shorter bed didn't bother me at all.

Location was excellent. Right in old town, but not next to a thumping night club.

My only quibble was that internet wasn't very strong in the rooms upstairs; only in the lobby downstairs. The receptionist told me that their internet guru was on holiday for 3 weeks, so maybe that's not a typical problem.

All in all, a very satisfying short stay.

The room was small and poorly ventilated, in attic space. The location is right in the old city so convenient.
The problem started when I went to bed. The disco in the basement or next door reverberated through the entire hotel until morning. People spilling out onto the street were also noisy. Then when I finally got to sleep I was woken up again by steps on the staircase which was bare stone.
I asked to move rooms the next night, but got an even worse deal, as the door lock was broken and 3 groups of people entered the room during the night.
The next morning there were no staff at all to complain to.

We had booked to stay at Red Roofs about 3 weeks prior to arrival. We were extremely happy they had a room for us, as we figured out it was one of the biggest weekends of the year, with all the russians coming to Riga. About a week before arrival we confirmed our booking as we wanted a non smoking and quiet room (if possible). Over the phone, they confirmed our booking and also said it was no problem to assign us such a room, the advice was the email the information just to make sure.
Upon arrival we were welcomed by the weirdest and most agressive receptionist we had ever met. He did not look up when we got to the counter, we handed him our printed reservation and he needed at least 10 minutes to read it. No reasonable communication whatsoever. He called, what we suppose, the manager, and then said to us that we should check our email as someone had mailed to us that morning. There was no way he was going to tell us what was in the email! We were travelling to Riga that morning, so did not check our email!
Finally, we read the mail and were speechless. The room we had booked, with private bathroom, was no longer available due to sudden canalization and plumbing problems and they could offer us dorm beds instead. As I was pregnant, this was absolutely not an option! Furthermore, when other staff joined into the conversation we understood that the room was available, but simply was overbooked. All other hotels in the old centre were fully booked and there was practically no motivation from the 'crazy' receptionist to help us in finding an alternative! We ended up sleeping at my sister's place who luckily lived in Riga and was able to make arrangements for us!
We warn anyone wanting to stay here, staff is crazy and agressive and seems to be on drugs, the whole hotel breaths an atmosphere that says you do not want to sleep there! Don't call yourself a hotel if you can only accomodate partying youngsters in hostel style! We will never ever go here again! Riga was great though!!!

The hotel is very good located right in the center of Riga. Staff were very and friendly. The room was very basic but clean. Free Wi-fi. Downstairs next door is a good Italian restaurant. I think this hostel is teh best choice for it's price.

I stayed at Red Roofs Hotel in Riga with my wife during our trip to Baltic countries. We booked one double room through booking.com, but when we arrived to Riga all the doubles were occupied. We were given an apartment instead. I want to stress that this decision was automatic and not forced by us. We appreciated our apartment. You have to take into account that this is rather a budget place and even apartment, although very nice, was kind of budget (but spacious).
The location is fantastic - you are literally in the middle of action, but on a very quiet street. If you don't want to overpay and still want to stay in Riga's Old Town, it's a good choice.

We stayed there 5 days during my trip to Latvia and Estonia. 3 of them I spent in the two room suite which was very affordable for the size (a bedroom and a guest room each 30m2, so larger than my flat:)) and location. The other 2 nights this room was not available so I moved to a much smaller room which was still big enaugh for what we needed Rooms were clean and comfortable, staff was polite and helpful explaining the routes and sightseeing places. Breakfast was very basic but OK for me. The only problem was the Wi Fi that didn't function some days. As a hotel guest I also received a 10% discount in the neighbouring restaurants "Trattoria del Popolo" and "Olive Oil Trading" Both are italian places, affordable prices but great food, I think by best found during my trip. So thanks to this hotel we had a nice stay in Riga

We stayed in this hotel in August 2010 for three nights. The hotel has great location in the heart of Riga Old City. Staff were very polite and helpful. The room was simple but rather clean. The only problem we had in this hotel - the internet was not working during all our stay - neigther wi-fi, no the shared computer near reception. So we had to take our notebooks and go to look for free wi-fi cafe in the city.

Was staying at this hotel for second time. 1 year ago this place was fun. Now - horrible stains on carpets, shared toilets - needs renovation, but mainly i am dissapointed in staff. Girl who worked daytime (tall one) was talking only with my boyfriend, totally ignoring me and my questions.....If this is acceptable by hotel manager then i don't understand it... Night staff (young girl, i think she was russian) was total dissapointment - was so misserable that we hated to ask her something. Have no idea what happened to this place, where are gone all the nice staff that worked there???
And we heard that some client was robbed while staying there.
