Overall, this hotel really means well. The staff with whom I interacted were great, and the location in the Old City cannot be beat.

Then come the negatives...

1. The deadbolt lock to my room door could not be turned, so I could not lock the room at night.

2. On two occasions, I did see a few very tiny white bugs crawling in the bathroom doorway.

3. The breakfast buffet - while very much welcome and with an extremely decent selection - was largely cold because the warming trays did not seem to have functional gas burners.

4. The WiFi in the hotel is horrible, to the extent it exists at all. You may get lucky in the lobby - you can forget about the rooms.

Are any of these dealbreakers? No. That's precisely why I did not raise these issues with management during my stay. And the price I paid for the room was very good. But if the hotel is going to be touted as a 4 star hotel, I think that is extremely misleading. The effort is there, but the achievement is not even close.

There are lots of hotels in the Old City. I would suspect that there are better experiences to be had at the same price point.

The hotel is in a good location and has a beautiful interior. Staff is nice and helpful. Our room was not big but had everything we needed, it was only a bit too warm there. The biggest minus is the breakfast - although there were different choices of food, most of it was cold and not really tasty.

Great little hotel in the heart of the old town. It's small and the rooms are of varying size. The hotel, bedrooms, and ensuite bathrooms are beautifully decorated. Breakfast is nice. You can help yourself to a continental buffet breakfast - bread, meats, cheeses, fruit, yoghurt, cereal, pastries, etc. They will also cook eggs, pancakes, and a few other items off the breakfast menu. We had no problems with noise. Some of the staff are very helpful, others are a bit more reserved.

The bedrooms have everything you need - TV, mini bar, phone, cupboard, big beds, etc, etc. Bathrooms are a good size and have hair dryers, towels, soap, etc.

Since its low season at the moment, you can get good deals for Sun - Thurs which makes the hotel quite good value. I would stay there again.

We booked the hotel as a package with flight to Riga with expedia. Little did we know that it would have been cheaper booking it through booking.com. About 30 euro. And for that price it is originally, you get what you pay for. Under average room with dirty wall to wall carpet, bed who is very low and thin so you feel the bottom on it, and a breakfast that was so simple that you can ask what is point of offer breakfast at all? For the price it was on expedia we would have expect more. We even asked if we could upgrade our room as we could see was vacant at booking site. But the receptionist said it was full. The receptionist was more busy chatting with his friend then checking us in. And what is it with sitting on his chair when guest are there, he also seemed like we where bothering him being guest and asking for help, no serviceminded or smile. Since no upgrade, simple room and bad breakfast we switched the last night to a hotel up the street, 100 euro for one night but with good service, nice modern room and amazing breakfast.

I booked this hotel in February 2022 and traveled here in march 2022. However, we arrived at the hotel to find it shut. We enquired at several places to check we had the right hotel (we got a taxi from the airport that dropped us off right outside the hotel) only to be told it had been closed for two years ++.
We were lucky enough to find a beautiful hotel that was still central to our needs. I have checked online and you are still able to book this hotel???
We tried ringing the telephone number on the hotel door, to no avail, just said not in service.

I'm still staying at the hotel and feel compelled to write this review to avoid other people ever staying here! We chose this hotel as we love boutique hotels and this one had great reviews...when we arrived we felt happy with the choice for its position and the way the reception presented the hotel (although a bit small but a nice environment). Then we were taken to our room which we were told was in the B building and as soon as we arrived we realized it meant b clients! It is basically a different building on the back of the main one and as soon as one crosses the door can feel that the ambience created in the main one is over. Just an old apartment building which probably hasn't been upgraded since the soviets left (no kidding). See for yourself in the photos attached. The worst part was that the windows of the room gave on the corridor linking the 2 buildings and hence the room had absolutely no privacy nor silence. When I went to ask for a different room I was told with the most impolite tone that this is what you get if you pay economy and if I wanted better I had to pay 20€ more per night. I asked to see the room I would get for the extra money. This time it was in the A building but was no more than a flat hotel room like you could get in any 3 star chain. Although it was still definitely way better than the other the bathroom was so small to make it impractical for us traveling with a baby and to be honest at that point I wasn't willing to give a cent more to this hotel. Our recommendation: just avoid it!!!

We are just back from a 3 night long weekend break in Riga, reserved the suite at the Viesturs as it was a celebration trip. The room was terrific, everything worked as expected, and the jacuzzi and sauna were a welcome treat! The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful, and the location of the hotel in Vecriga (Old Riga) was great. In contrast to reports of many other hotels in Riga, Hotel Viesturs was quiet - even with the windows open at night. Beakfast was fine - nice bread with cold cuts, or cereals, or cooked eggs a possibility. I would stay here again, without even checking other venues! It as great to experience Vecriga - a beautiful, compact, medieval old city not completely tainted by tourism (yet!).

Stayed at Hotel V last week - arrived after getting a taxi from the airport (about 10L - £10) which was no hassle at all. My partner and I arrived at quite a cold time. Our room was ready a little after check in and whilst we waited we were offered warm drink, which was very much appreciated.

The double room was a lovely size, decorated in a cute kind of chintz effect which was really cosy and always warm if we wanted. Bathroom was large and the suite resembled bone china (see photos!)

The room had a mini-bar (extremely cheap!) - just so you know, and a fridge also.

Staff were very welcoming throughout the stay. Breakfast had large selections and choice.

We paid £49 a night and would not hesitate to recommend this little gem - also so peaceful and quiet. No stags were there!!!!

Can't quite remember the price we paid per night to stay here. The hotel was a mix of positive and negative, so here goes:

+ Staff were friendly and very helpful, giving us map instructions and advice for walking around Riga
+ Beds, despite appearing simple, were very comfortable and gave a good nights sleep
+ Great location. Right in the Old City
+ Spacious room
+ Heated bathroom floors (this may sound trivial but not a lot of hotels have this, and in winter this is great)

- Room looks and feels dated. This is probably the biggest concern
- No hot water kettle or tea/coffee making facilities in room (although staff were good to bring one to us on request)

If you don't intend to spend a lot of time in your room and will be mostly exploring the Old Town then I can give this place a nod, but if you want more creature comforts in your room then look elsewhere.

I discovered this place in my first trip to Riga. I had an advice from the company I visited. And I was very happy to discover this place with so much comfort to stay and perfect service. I stayed different time in different rooms and always I was very satisfied. Only if you visit Riga in warm season try to avoid rooms with windows going into internal yard. There are tables from lounge - people are drinking and smoking in late night and sometimes they are very noisy.
But even the sun has spots.
The stuff are very very friendly and helpful. All your problems they take as you are their old and beloved grandma, so they will surround you with a tender care and will do almost they can to make you stay comfortable. I am not joking. :-)
The breakfast is a continental one with all food from dietician to roast3ed sausages and scrambled eggs etc. I only missed eggs Benedict but not very much.
This hotel is located in a historical centre of Riga - old town of Riga. It is full of restaurants, shops, museums (museum of photography was very interesting).
The place is ideal for business trips and for rest with a family or with a friendly or romantic company.
I would really love to return in January.

Any tips on a room number with a queen size bed and brick on the walls?
Answer from Sylvia A

Hi, room 311 is a good size and has feature walls on 2 sides but only a tiny window. There is nothing to look out at anyway so it hardly matters. The bed was king size. For some reason there are 2 single duvets though. My recommendation is to book direct and request what you would like, that's what we did. It wasn't a lot dearer than booking online.

I can only suggest that you do NOT want a "classic double". Bed was large, but room uncomfortably small for us (especially if you want to stay a week).
