Really enjoyed my few days in Riga and the hotel certainly helped. It was very comfortable, clean and the staff were friendly.

It was about a 15 minute stroll to the city centre but worthwhile given the hidden architectural gems that would have been missed by staying in the old town area.

The immediate local area was in need of some regeneration but was safe enough.

Stayed in Hotel Tia for 3 nights in Feb 2006. Was pretty straightforward to reach by taxi from the airport. Cost was about 10 Lats.

Hotel reception staff were very friendly, e.g. when we requested a fridge for the room, it arrived within 20 mins. Room itself was pretty basic, but had the necessities that we wanted: bed, clean shower / toilet, t.v., safe. There was a lift, so easy to reach our room.

Hotel isn't particularly central to Riga, but close enough. In the Feb snow, it took 15/20 mins to reach the centre. An easier way is to come out of the hotel, go left and catch the trolleybus #3 in to town. Cost was 20 sentimes. (30ish pence sterling).

Only real disappointment was the breakfast. Not really worth the effort other than for the tea / coffee / orange juice.

we stayed here over the christmas period - and
it was basic, clean and comfortable - but no
amenities - the cafe closed at 11.00 and there was
no facility to get drinks or food apart from a
drink vending machine in the hall - tea/coffee making facilities in the room would be a plus
however, staff were friendly and helpful and for a
budget hotel with no frills would recommend it

I work as a travel professional and I must say - I didn’t expect any five star place but even compared to the cheap price, Rija hotel Tia was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had. The breakfast was sad, more like a hostel style cheapest thing. The person at the reception was everything but welcoming and kind. The room itself was ok. The best was the free parking.

This hotel is very good value for money. The rooms are small to medium, but spotlessly clean and recently updated. The continental breakfast is of a good standard and the staff are both friendly and efficient.
Location is reasonable, about 15 minute walk to the old city.
I would certainly recomend this hotel to budget conscious travellers who reuire clean comfortable accommodation,

Easy reach of airport & taxi cost under 8 Lats to hotel (£8), but return journey cost 20 Lats which we felt excessive.

Staff helpful, rooms were basic but comfortable, only downside was the very thin walls. Breakfast was basic & could have offered a lot more variety.

It took 15 mins to walk into town & with traffic at a standstill most of the day, this was the easiest and sometimes the quickest way to get there.

Hotel has a large flight of stairs to get your suitcases into the hotel which is a little daunting as taxi drivers offer no help. Not too good for elderly or infirm people. It is quiet at night.

The staff are lovely and very helpful, but sadly the hotel is more like a hostel. Rooms are small and basic, beds are tiny, too soft and the walls are so thin you can hear a conversation in the next room.
On a positive the rooms are clean, but bedding not changed until after 3 days, the water hot and pressure good. The heated towel rail bith positive and negative ... great for laundry, but you can burn yourself sat on toilet and makes the room, which is already hot with no a/c or fan even hotter.
It is noisy, rooms at the front suffer road noise and the back get the courtyard locals and football stadium.
Its about 20 mins to Riga old town, 10 to Art Nouveau district, 5 mins to huge supermarket and a couple of good restaurants close to St Gertrudes church about 7 mins away.
Look like an office block, no facade so you could miss it.
Breakfast is okay, basic but filling.

Judging from the drab exterior I wasn't expecting much from this hotel but I was very pleasantly surprised. The staff were helpful and efficient and the rooms were clean, if a little spartan. The area is quiet but a ten to fifteen minute walk from Old Town. The oatmeal and pancakes served at breakfast were delicious! It's not the prettiest hotel in town but I'd certainly consider a return trip.

You get what you pay for. Armed guard at the downstairs bank somewhat off putting. Early morning alarm call, unasked for, courtesy of what can only be assumed to be a kitchen porters pot scrubbing master class!
BEWARE of asking reception to book a taxi to airport as an executive taxi four times the price of Riga taxis, which you can book yourself, turned up.
Be prepared for the 15 or so minute walk into the city.

Recent stay at Hotel Tia early October. Good for cost conscious traveller...just over £100 for 3 nights B and B for two. On main route just out from the Old Town so easy to walk to, about 15 mins., though trolley buses go past regularly. we had rm 429 which had a view into rear courtyards of adjacent properties, not very inspiring but quiet. Room is en-suite, with a small hallway and separate inner door. Twin beds, fridge, in-room safe (key from reception), and wall mounted TV with remote. Mainly Russian channels but there is CNN. Room was clean and in good condition.
Breakfast is in the bar/restaurant and is typical continental. It's a bit bland but provides tea/coffee/juices, with usual meat/cheese and bread. The hot selection is basic: sausage(hot dog), scrambled egg in cake form, and pancakes.
The building is accessed by a set of steps so is not disability friendly, and the hotel reception shares the lobby with a private business which also has a reception desk, and an armed guard!
All in all a reasonable base for a short stay in Riga at a good price.
