We did not originally book to stay in this hotel but as the Wellton Riga & Spa messed up our reservation and Rixwell in the same chain we ended up here. The suite was a bit dated, some plug sockets did not work, the controller for the other AC unit was missing hence not working and only had analog TV channels (so no international TV). The location is good and convenient. The breakfast was in the Wellton hotel about 200m away which is a bit of inconvenience but breakfast was ok.

I used to stay at different hotels until I came across this little jewel. While other hotels offer either the ordinary hotel style furnishing (you know - the kind that is easily cleaned and looks the same all over the world) or sport design that could have pleased you grandmommy this hotel went a different way. The room are spacious (there are some smaller ones but then - this is a converted townhouse so the rooms of course cannot be all in the same size). What I like best is that the rooms have a modern style - but are not sterile. And you can access the internet from all rooms - a big plus with me. The staff always made a very professional impression. They are young and are always very helpful (when I once asked where I could find a swimming pool they called all swimming pools in Riga to get me the business hours and prices!). The breakfast is all right (allthough not above the average). The hotel is situated in the Old Town wich mean there is no traffic exept taxis and deliveries for the shops. So its rather quite. If you have a lot of luggage you will have to carry it from the entrance of the Old Town. I usually ask the hotel to arrange a pick up for me at the airport - so the taxi will take you right to the hotel door and you dont have to bother with the luggage. Nor with paying the driver because the hotel will arrange this for you and you just pay everything with the final bill. If you want some nightlife - some clubs and bars are just around the corner. If you fancy shopping - all the nice shops are right there. The big park is just a 4min walk away. For me this hotel is the only option and I whenever I go to Riga I stay there.

The hotel is awesome, it verges on perfect in fact, the heat situation, i think they must have checked these reviews because i had to open the windows every night!!!!! we had a junior suite, our friends had the full suite, both rooms were excellent, but the full suite is def worth the extra, seperate bedroom, on the verytop floor, so no street noise!!!! My major criticisms are these, no tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms, which surprised me because they really do try hard to please, and second, the local erm... massage parlour..... openly flowts its wears outside the hotel doors nightly, and we were constantly approached despite forcefully saying no EVERY night. That said the hotel is very very nice, re prices, the LIDO is great for very nice surroundings, cheap cheap cheap but tasty food. There is a restaurant in the main square located next door to the fancy steak house, named 4 something or other, awesome restaurant if you love garlic like we do, cigarettes are unbelievable, 30 - 70 pence per packet!!!! the irish bar just to the left of the hotel door serves latvian beer at 90 odd pence per pint, but on the whole, beer and drinks are artificially expensive, mc donalds blew me away, 18 pence for 6 chic nuggs!!!!! under 4 quid for 2 large meals with latte's and apple pies, imnot really a macs fan, but at that price was worth a treat!!!! oh, and do yourself a favour, forget taking photos inside any buildings, old habits die hard, i tried to take a pic in the lido, and a group of C.I.A. looking types blasted me in latvian, and finally said NO PHOTOS!!!!!, everywhere, even the market, says no photos!!! very odd....

I emailed the hotel with my concerns, so u never know, things could change!!!!!

Just returned from 5 days at the Centra. Couldnt fault it! We had a full suite on 6th floor: 603. Clean, comfortable, spacious, huge tv, huge comfortable bed, well heated ( we had to turn the heating down and there was snow outside!), lovely bathrobes, good breakfast, helpful pleasant staff. It was quiet apart from a few rowdy revellers in the wee small hours but hey, that happens at the centre of any large city nowadays. We kept the windows near the bedroom closed and we slept very well. Lovely views over the old town from the windows though the suite at the corner is probably better. Good price and good location.
Well done Tripadvisor. This is the 4th hotel I've chosen as a result of reviews. Every one has lived up to our expectations and we are fussy!

We have just spent the New Year 2006/7 weekend at the Centra Hotel in Riga.

This is a good, clean, modern, minimalist, light and airy hotel, situated in the old town of Riga. This means, that it is very well located for walking everywhere in the City.

We also stayed on the popular 6th floor - a 'must' for the views over the city and the quietness.

As commented by other reviewers, they advertise a bar, but there isn't one, which is a shame if you fancy a pre evening drink before going out for dinner, but, on the other hand, you are so central that it doesn't really matter.

The breakfast is simple and efficient. Salamis, cheese, various cereals, fruit, yoghurt, eggs & tea/coffee.

Make sure you reconfirm your airport transfers with the hotel. As with other reviewers below, we had problems. Our problem was that the private transfer had not been booked with the taxi company when we left, which meant we got to the airport very (worryingly) late. Infact, it was getting so late, that one of the hotel staff kindly drove us to the airport herself!

However, the reception and breakfast staff are very abrupt, surly and snippish. Not very welcoming, but don't let that put you off, as once you have checked in, you don't need to be bothered by them again until you check out.

The hotel also has free internet access in the lobby.

Riga itself is absolutely delightful. A fairty tail sykline (and cobbled streets), of churches & domes mixed in with new tasteful shopping passages (rather than malls), bars and restaurants. It punches well above its weight in terms of things to do and see.

Two must dos: the SKYBAR (fab views across the whole city), and a day or a half day trip on the train to Jurmala (i.e. the beautiful white beaches of the Bay of Riga). And the return fare is just 1 Lat!!

In summary: go to Riga before everybody else does - it's stunning. And do stay at the Centra - but confirm and reconfirm your airport transfers.

just returned from a wonderful trip to riga with my dad who is 72 years old,i booked the hotel directly from their website, stayed there for 3 nights from 23rd -26th april,in a junior suite on the 4th floor, room 403,wonderful large room, beautiful heated floor bathroom,2x twin single beds, which were very comfortable to sleep in,2 free bottles of water on a serving tray every day with a bottle opener and 2 glasses, riga is such an amazing historical city, with small cobbled streets in the old city, you could walk around all day and not see everything, there are bars and shops tucked into evey nook and cranny, dont miss the museum of the occupation of latvia, turn left outside of the hotel, and walk from the old town for about 5 minutes,it is situated next to the university,a large modern building,it is free to visit, although it is customary to leave a donation,it is both interesting and very sad,for a cheap excellent meal try opium bar,in the old town,we had pork fillet wrapped in smoked bacon, forest mushroom risotto, with vegetables and a sweet and drinks all for £15,(wonderful),we also booked the airport transfer from the hotel at 15eu,when we arrived the taxi driver was waiting for us holding my name ,we were driven to the hotel in a big gleaming white mercedes, and the driver tho quiet, did speak english if you started to make conversation with him,he was an ok guy,the latvian people are very willing to help or advise, and their unsmiling faces dont mean anything,it is just their ways, the hotel staff are the same, but very welcoming and helpful, the only thing i can criticize and advice anyone who is staying at the centra is to bring a washbasin plug, there was one in the bath attached to the chain, but not one in the basin,if you go to riga, this is the only hotel you would need to look for, everything is clean and minimalistic, but do pay the little extra for a room or suite on the 4th floor and above, its worth it,i would definetly go back, one word of warning though, the hotel is completley non smoking,
go and have a lovely trip.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spent 3 days at Hotel Centra Riga in December and could not fault it. Excellent old town location on Audeju Iela just steps away from the State Opera, Freedom Monument, Central Market, St Peters, House of Blackheads and Museum of Occupation. In the surrounding area their are many bars, nightclubs and restaurants. Most sights in central Riga were within easy walking distance.

All staff were beautiful (like all Latvians), perfectly groomed, friendly and accomodating, and spoke very good english. Nothing was ever too much trouble. The only problem we encountered during our stay was on arrival some confusion with the bedding configuration we required in the room (being a same sex couple this is not uncommon). I do think however this was attributed to translation difficulties rather that rudeness or ignorance on the staff members behalf (the staff at the checkin desk seemed particularly forward in specifying that the room only had one bed).

The room was perfectly clean and very attractive with beautiful white doona on the bed. We had quite a spacious room on a high floor which had a lovely outlook on to the streets below. The amenities in the bathroom were the best (and excellently presented) that I have encountered in a hotel. The room was very quiet, having double glazed windows which also helped to keep it very warm inside (visiting in the dead of the northern winter).

Breakfast was a lovely buffet with cereals, pastries, etc. and some local cooked items such as pork and a selection of fruits and sliced vegetables, juices and freshly brewed tea and coffee are available from the bar area. The breakfast room is fantastic.

Will return to Hotel Centra without any hesitation on my next trip to this beautiful city.

Just returned from a long weekend in Riga. We stayed at Centra because of its location (in the heart of the Old Town) and because we got a great rate on the internet. The hotel was a surprise: is clean, modern..we simply loved our staying. The location is superb, all the major attractions of Riga are walking distance, and there you'll find amazing bars, restaurants and shops (visit the Galereji Centrs, a very nice mall). Our room was a double on the 3rd floor.. not so big but cool (modern design) and clean, with everything you need: a comfortable bed, free internet connection, a nice bathroom with heated floor, etc..it would be better to have a flat tv in the bedroom (though we didn't watch tv while there), everything seems to be ready for the installation (didn't like the tv-plugs in the wall in front of the bed without a lcd screen above!). Breakfast in the underground bar of the hotel was good but nothing special. Staff is helpful, but not too friendly at all..a little bit cold with their guests. Taxi from the airport to the hotel was 7lv (with the red taxi, maybe the bests); when going to the airport i choosed the hotel transfer, and that's a good choice if you dont' want to be ripped of from the other taxis: Centra take you to the airport with a comfy Mercedes S500 for just 10lv. Go to Hotel Centra and enjoy Riga!!

We stayed midweek for 2 nights in a suite on the 6th (top) floor, room number 604.

GOOD POINTS. A very spacious, bright, clean and modern room. Large plasma screen TV. The room was very quiet. Maybe because it was a corner suite overlooking a side road. A good size bathroom with a bath and a shower. Staff were friendly and always at hand but not intrusive. Good security e.g. no unauthorised visitors. I guess for some it might be a problem, depends on the purpose of your visit. The breakfast was superb!

BAD PONTS. No room service and no tea/coffee making facilities so no chance of a warm drink. Nevertheless, a minibar had a good selection of reasonably priced drinks. Everything else was perfect.

Non-hotel related problems. You get stalkers as soon as you step outside the hotel offering “dancing girls”. Due to a large numbers of British “stags” going for “specialised” weekends this has become an increasing problem when walking around in the evenings.

Great hotel for price and location! I used the hotel airport transfer service and it couldn't have been easier to get there. They had someone waiting for me at the airport and arrived at the hotel in a limo, all for only 9 Lats (about 18 dollars). Rooms are clean, sleek design, with original local art hanging in th room and public spaces.

One of the best things about hotel is the included breakfast buffet: really gets you off to a good start, especially if you visit in wintry weather, as I did. There's hot items that change daily (sunny side up eggs, ham) and a wealth of cold items from cereals, fresh fruit, preserved fruit, local breakfast food like Karums (cheesecake-like bites covered in chocolate--yum!), three kinds of fresh juices (including delicious blackcurrant), cappuccino, cold meats and hard boiled eggs, cheeses, and smoked salmon.

There's also a lunch buffet which I am told is really good value.

The place is close to everything in Old Town Riga.

One thing to note is that second floor rooms may be subject to late-night noise from the revelers leaving the pub across the street. Opt for a higher floor room if you're sensitive.

Dear Nina G, Thank you for your interest in our hotel and your question! We can offer you our taxi, but we need to know your arrival time and flight number. In this case, the driver will meet you in the airport and transfer you to the hotel - that will cost you 17,- Euro (that is for regular car); from the hotel to airport 15,- EUR. We can add this sum to your hotel bill, or you can pay the driver - as you'll decide. If our shuttle service is suitable for you, you can contact directly the hotel and our personal will arrange it for you (please call our reservation department Wellton Centra Hotel).
