Guests appreciate the blend of grandeur and coziness in its atmosphere, though a smoky bar has been noted. Stayed 3 nights in a business King room end November/beginning December.

The hotel is in fabulous position, down a side street just off the main square, well placed for exploring the old town but still in a quiet area. Communications with the hotel before and after booking were very quickly and helpfully responded to (unlike another 5 star in Riga which took 4 days to get back to me with a simple question) and they arranged transport to and from the airport for us. As they therefore knew our arrival time, our room was ready for us to check-in at 1pm, very nice touch.

The room was quite spacious though the bathroom was a little compact, a smaller sink and wider bath would improve the comfort level! It would have been nice if the bathroom mirror was heated as there was very little bathroom ventilation and the mirror took ages to demist. There were quality toiletries supplied (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand wash and lotion) but if you have thick/longer hair would suggest you bring your own as it wasn't really adequate for my hair. The hairdryer was one of those fixed to the wall ones that you have to keep your thumb on the button to make it work ugh! They highest setting was too hot to use without burning your scalp and the other setting was more of a gentle breeze rather than a powerful jet to dry hair so was pleased I brought my own. There is a socket in the bathroom near the mirror and also a socket in the bedroom next to a mirror for drying hair. The mattress was on the firm side for me but fine for Mr W. A selection of pillows is already on the bed and there is also a pillow menu in case you want something else. The mini bar has a selection of soft and alcoholic drinks and there is a coffee machine with pods and a kettle with tea bags, no milk though just creamer pots. There is a large umbrella in the room to use and although we didn't have much of a view (overlooked the interior courtyard) the room was quiet even with the windows open and we slept well. The TV is rather strange though, apart from BBC world news, you can only watch Youtube if you fancy a bit of telly!

Breakfast was a mix of a good continental selection, sparking wine and egg dishes/pancakes cooked to order however the toaster could do with being upgraded, a 2 slot one that takes forever meant some queuing at times! Service was a bit hit and miss at breakfast, used plates were slow to be cleared, drinks orders were slow to arrive and one morning had to be reminded after about 15 minutes when they hadn't turned up.

We didn't eat in the hotel but did have some afternoon drinks in the lovely bar with great service. We fancied a night cap after returning late one evening but sadly the prevailing smoky atmosphere instantly put us off, such a shame.

Overall we'd highly recommend a stay here but disappointed we couldn't use the bar in the evening.

First stay at this hotel and it more than exceeded all my expectations. Gorgeous bedroom with a view over local church spires and the most comfortable bed with best pillows ever. Evening turndown service is provided but I didn't get service on my first night. The bin wasn't emptied on another evening. These, I know are minor quibbles but should not happen at one of the world's leading hotels. Housekeeping staff need to be mindful of guests sleeping when doing their rounds. I was rudely awoken one morning at 7 o'clock by chambermaids talking loudly outside my door.
The breakfast buffet was superb with plenty of choice. The hot food cooked to order was served promptly and was delicious. We loved the bar and enjoyed a few drinks in there to round off a long day sightseeing. But it was the wonderful staff who really enhanced the overall experience. Elvis and the girls on reception and in the breakfast room were always very pleasant and helpful. Look forward to a return visit sometime and would wholeheartedly recommend this gem of a hotel to anyone visiting Riga for the first time.

Excellent service. We went on a 4 day city break in March 2023 to Riga. It was 20 mins from the airport to The Grand Palace Hotel. There is a Rimi convenience shop on the square. This hotel is central, spotlessly clean and the service from the whole team is above and beyond. The hotel is a few metres from Dome Square and the river. From arrival were were made very welcome seated in a calm reception area with a friendly and professional receptionist. We upgraded our room to a junior suite which had a settee and a bit more space. Important to me the windows open and the under floor heating in the bathrooms can be turned off on request. Radiators have a thermostat so can be controlled by you. Our room was serviced by Olga who was absolutely brilliant the room was spotless and always enough toiletries, tea, coffee pods and water. The team in the Orangery at breakfast are fabulous they couldn’t be more help if they tried. Their grasp of spoken English was excellent and everyone took the time to help with our Latvian pronunciation. They have a lovely Parrot called Misha in the Orangery who is loved by the team. They arranged transfers from the airport for us which starts from €35 one way. They organised Opera tickets for us before we arrived too. If you are really picky you could find little things like there was a mark on the settee or a couple of tiny holes in my base sheet and a small bath but the great service makes those little things not matter. I felt so welcome, calm and enjoyed being in this hotel. The bar and the service in the bar was excellent, dog and cigar friendly. We don’t smoke but it doesn’t bother us it just makes it all the more inclusive and friendly. The is an abundance of eateries within a few metres. The Piazza Itialiana was excellent with great service. The Key of Riga on Dome Square was excellent to try traditional Latvian food. Lots of coffee shops. The art gallery is just a few doors down the road. The view from St Peter’s Church is a must, the Lift is on floor 3 of the church. The Museum of the Blackheads is very close and just is front is the Riflemen Monument which is the stop for the Sightseeing bus. If you can see the bridge and river you are near Sop A. It takes you a bit further afield. The Old Town is all walkable and flat but the roads and pavements are mostly cobbled.

We spent a long weekend in this hotel during what was an unseasonably warm period for Riga.
The hotel is located in an excellent location down a quiet street which is close to the Presidential Palace, river and Old Town. The hotel is a large, villa-like building with a grand entrance and reception area. On arrival we were checked in efficiently by friendly staff who provided information about the hotel and local area.
Our room was located on the 4th floor towards the back of the hotel overlooking the roof to the orangery and facing other rooms. It was a good size with a comfortable bed, good storage and airy bathroom. There is a chargeable minibar, TV (limited channels), ironing board and tea/coffee making facilities. The air conditioning had been switched off as seems to be standard for the hotel in Winter but when we asked for it to be switched on due to the warmer temperatures this was not made possible. This did mean that the underfloor heating (which we couldn't alter) left the room very stuffy. We were advised to open the windows but this did mean that activities in other rooms could be clearly heard especially at night!
There is a lounge bar and Michelin rated restaurant on site. The bar was good for a night cap after a day out but smoking is permitted so did become a bit uncomfortable for two non-smokers. We ate at the restaurant for one evening meal and despite the hype the meal really was nothing to shout about. The restaurant and bar staff are very attentive and friendly.
The breakfast (taken in the orangery under the gaze of the resident parrot!) was very good. A lot of choice, eggs cooked to order and very tasty.
The hotel is clean and very well maintained and the evening turn down service is worthy of note.
Staff at the hotel are professional and friendly. However, we did experience a problem with a new and unsupervised member of the team who had mistakenly taken payment for our stay despite it already having been paid. This led to problems with obtaining a refund at the same exchange rate (a situation that the management have acknowledged and have worked hard to rectify) which did rather put a dampener on the last day of the break.
All in all this is a nice hotel with some great features and fantastic location.

It’s also great to know that our breakfast in the Orangerie and the evening turndown service stood out during your stay. We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused by the payment issue. The hotel was quite below our expectations, bed was very hard, it felt like sleeping on a bench! My body was hurting from laying on this bed and I could not wait till morning, time to get out of bed. I would never expect bed to be so hard in 5 star hotel! I was feeling cold under the cover and asked for extra blanket, but they did not have any blankets in a hotel, which is strange, but they give me another cover. No, I can't sleep under two covers. Just a blanket on top of cover would help. Breakfast was just sad, all food was placed on one small table, few tiny pieces of cheese and meat, yogurt, fruits and pastry. Food wasn't looking fresh. Coffee and cappuccino was bad too. Luckily we only stayed there two nights, I would really not want to be there any longer. Also water was leaking when you take shower and water in toilet kept running, which was making noise. Also, the building across being renovated and it seems still big jobs to be done, there was constant noise from this you could hear in the room. Especially something like ongoing generator, it was very loud and monotone sounds. Hotel can't do much about this of course but you should know if you wish to rest during the day in your room, construction across an be noisy. On positive side, there was a man on reception who was very friendly and helpful, also cleaning stuff was friendly and helpful. They had coffee machine in the room, bathrobes, slippers, safe, tea, but no teapot boiler. Room is spacious. The hotel not worth the price and not 5 start level. Bed and breakfast was something to forget not to remember.

This is a nice hotel, with friendly, efficient, English-speaking staff that is in a great location and is very reasonably priced. It is located in the old town, but is also close to the Esplanade and Central market, as you can walk to both these locations. In the evening they bring you chocolate and bottled water. However, since Riga had not turned on the heat yet, the room was only 62 degrees farenheit, but the hotel gave me an electric heater. There is free wifi, toiletries are provided and an actual key is used. There is a tea pot, but no coffee maker, and they provide instant coffee. There is a mini-bar in the room and there is some space in the frig. that you can use. They offered breakfast for 25 euros, which I thought was king of steep, so I self-catered by buying breakfast items from the nearby express supermarkets. There is a small gym with four machines (rower, bicycle, treadmill and stepper, and the machines are right next to each other. LIght weights are also provided. The hotel has a restaurant and there are many near by.

Great location in heart of the attractive old town, this is the perfect place to stay. However, old cobblestone streets and many stairs into the hotel make this not a good place to stay if you have any mobility issues.

No valet parking or any parking from what I could see. Fortunately we were always picked up and dropped off.

The hotel exterior looks like an embassy. This confused us when we first arrived as it has a large plaque proclaiming that this is the Austrian consulate. The hotel manager apparently is also the consul for Austria. But, in these trying days surely it's encouraging that the manager has senough free time that he can do two jobs to support himself and doesn't have to go dumpster-diving to feed his family.

The hotel interior is beautiful and very olde worlde as one would expect from an old building that has been converted into what one would normally call a "boutique hotel". Breakfast costs 25 Euros pp and is not really worth it. Had an omelette and experimented with an Eggs Benedict that was ok but not great. But, then again one has to go outside the touristy old town limits to get value for money.

The carpet in the corridor to our room seemed a bit dirty but the room was good. A highlight for me was that the bed was the most comfortable I experienced in Scandinavia dn the Baltics. I slept reasonably well for the first time in a week.

The very best part of the hotel that made our stay wonderful and delightful was that a parrot "Misha" lives in a cage in the breakfast restaurant. However, I was very happy that Misha is allowed to fly free for much of the day. Many times we would come back and walk through the room, find Misha perched on some furniture above my head, and we could have a chat with her relating our day. Misha is a great listener and makes interested noises as if to say, "Really?" and "Do go on"... Much better value than a therapist!

I will miss Misha and will stay here again so long as Misha continues to fly free!

A seemingly simply facade opens into a different world. I felt like I stepped back in time, but with modern amenities. Beautifully decorated, its beauty is only surpassed by the professional, friendly staff. Upon being given an actual KEY, they personably ushered me to the nearest elevator that was closest to my room. They freely gave advice on things to do and see, and helped me with a health issue. Not only that, I have to give kudos to Jondzha who helped me unsnarl a complicated reservation.

The location of the hotel is just perfect to explore the old town and you are right in the middle of everything happening there. Despite that it’s on a quiet street and accessible easily to the old town sights as well as the waterfront .the staff of the hotel is extremely attentive, courteous and friendly, Special complement to Elvis, in the front office who performed his job with aplomb and was always there when you needed him . He catered to all needs that were expected from a hotel of this standard . The sauna experience and as great as it was single use in a big spa when reserved in advance. The whole setting of the hotel is grandiose and the overall atmosphere was very welcoming . The restaurant and bar have a beautiful ambience with good service. The breakfast could do well to have a few more hot options , that apart it was top notch. All in all a wonderful stay in Riga!

Had a very pleasant stay in this lovely hotel. All the staff from reception area to breakfast area were warm and helpful. The little touches make a difference, like bottles of water left daily in our room and the turn down service. Enjoyed a drink in the cosy bar each night although found the cigar smoking a bit strange.

Only negative for me would be that the shower is over the bath, as I'm afraid of slipping and also that there is no common area to sit in the foyer, unless opposite the receptionist. Hotel is in a great central location for exploring the old town and I would definitely stay again next time I'm in Riga.
