Myself and my boyfriend stayed here for 3 nights in January for a birthday celebration. The hotel is beautifully decorated and located right in the heart of Riga just off Dome Square. The rooms are modern and we were directly above the bar but had no problems with any noise or disturbances. The rooms have all toiletries, bottled water, mini bar and a safe. One minor point would be that the hairdryer in the room is a little annoying when two people are trying to get ready at once.
The breakfast is very good quality with a choice of continental and freshly cooked eggs, you can have omelette, fried eggs, eggs Benedict or pancakes. The pils bar is lovely, beautifully decorated with good service from the waiters.
All in all this hotel is extremely good for the location and amenities. All the staff were extremely friendly throughout our stay. Check out was efficient but we did feel that the lady who dealt with us, Laura, was rude, we felt she was very abrupt, did not ask how our stay had been or if we needed a taxi to the airport or our luggage kept until our flight. We had a small bar bill to pay that we had accumulated over the three day stay and when I asked if we could have it charged to the card that we had given at the start of the visit she answered very abruptly that we could not and we were made to feel like we were trying to get out of paying. However, there was another gentleman on the front desk who we believe had just started working at the hotel and he was extremely friendly and dealt with our bags and taxi for us. It’s a shame to say that this did put a dampener on the end of our trip as up until then we could not fault the staff.

Excellent service. We went on a 4 day city break in March 2023 to Riga. It was 20 mins from the airport to The Grand Palace Hotel. There is a Rimi convenience shop on the square. This hotel is central, spotlessly clean and the service from the whole team is above and beyond. The hotel is a few metres from Dome Square and the river. From arrival were were made very welcome seated in a calm reception area with a friendly and professional receptionist. We upgraded our room to a junior suite which had a settee and a bit more space. Important to me the windows open and the under floor heating in the bathrooms can be turned off on request. Radiators have a thermostat so can be controlled by you. Our room was serviced by Olga who was absolutely brilliant the room was spotless and always enough toiletries, tea, coffee pods and water. The team in the Orangery at breakfast are fabulous they couldn’t be more help if they tried. Their grasp of spoken English was excellent and everyone took the time to help with our Latvian pronunciation. They have a lovely Parrot called Misha in the Orangery who is loved by the team. They arranged transfers from the airport for us which starts from €35 one way. They organised Opera tickets for us before we arrived too. If you are really picky you could find little things like there was a mark on the settee or a couple of tiny holes in my base sheet and a small bath but the great service makes those little things not matter. I felt so welcome, calm and enjoyed being in this hotel. The bar and the service in the bar was excellent, dog and cigar friendly. We don’t smoke but it doesn’t bother us it just makes it all the more inclusive and friendly. The is an abundance of eateries within a few metres. The Piazza Itialiana was excellent with great service. The Key of Riga on Dome Square was excellent to try traditional Latvian food. Lots of coffee shops. The art gallery is just a few doors down the road. The view from St Peter’s Church is a must, the Lift is on floor 3 of the church. The Museum of the Blackheads is very close and just is front is the Riflemen Monument which is the stop for the Sightseeing bus. If you can see the bridge and river you are near Sop A. It takes you a bit further afield. The Old Town is all walkable and flat but the roads and pavements are mostly cobbled.

We stayed 3 nights and occupied 2 suites within the hotel. The bedroom and living areas were spacious, well appointed with excellent decor. The bathroom had both bath and shower and was extremely clean. Robes, slippers and toiletries were all provided. Breakfast was included and there was a good selection for both meat eaters and vegetarians. The breakfast room was very pleasant and opulent. We didn’t dine in the restaurant but the Guide books list it as one of the best places to eat in Riga. The hotel staff - from reception, concierge, waiters and cleaners - were all extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We certainly received the 5-star treatment you would expect and would highly recommend this hotel.

Old fashioned hotel. Rooms were clean and comfortable.

Drinks came with too many plastic straws. Even at breakfast. A big waste.

Breakfast had no hot vegan options but chef was very accommodating.

Having a caged bird in the breakfast area was not very pleasant though.

The hotel was quite below our expectations, bed was very hard, it felt like sleeping on a bench! My body was hurting from laying on this bed and I could not wait till morning, time to get out of bed. I would never expect bed to be so hard in 5 star hotel! I was feeling cold under the cover and asked for extra blanket, but they did not have any blankets in a hotel, which is strange, but they give me another cover. No, I can't sleep under two covers. Just a blanket on top of cover would help. Breakfast was just sad, all food was placed on one small table, few tiny pieces of cheese and meat, yogurt, fruits and pastry. Food wasn't looking fresh. Coffee and cappuccino was bad too. Luckily we only stayed there two nights, I would really not want to be there any longer. Also water was leaking when you take shower and water in toilet kept running, which was making noise. Also, the building across being renovated and it seems still big jobs to be done, there was constant noise from this you could hear in the room. Especially something like ongoing generator, it was very loud and monotone sounds. Hotel can't do much about this of course but you should know if you wish to rest during the day in your room, construction across an be noisy. On positive side, there was a man on reception who was very friendly and helpful, also cleaning stuff was friendly and helpful. They had coffee machine in the room, bathrobes, slippers, safe, tea, but no teapot boiler. Room is spacious. The hotel not worth the price and not 5 start level. Bed and breakfast was something to forget not to remember.

This is a nice hotel, with friendly, efficient, English-speaking staff that is in a great location and is very reasonably priced. It is located in the old town, but is also close to the Esplanade and Central market, as you can walk to both these locations. In the evening they bring you chocolate and bottled water. However, since Riga had not turned on the heat yet, the room was only 62 degrees farenheit, but the hotel gave me an electric heater. There is free wifi, toiletries are provided and an actual key is used. There is a tea pot, but no coffee maker, and they provide instant coffee. There is a mini-bar in the room and there is some space in the frig. that you can use. They offered breakfast for 25 euros, which I thought was king of steep, so I self-catered by buying breakfast items from the nearby express supermarkets. There is a small gym with four machines (rower, bicycle, treadmill and stepper, and the machines are right next to each other. LIght weights are also provided. The hotel has a restaurant and there are many near by.

Highly recommended and we are looking forward for the next visit! Our first visit to Riga and we checked in for our three night visit on Sunday 5.7. which happen to be also the opening day of the Hotel after COVID19 close down. The hotel location is excellent on the one of the quiet streets of the Riga Old Town. The hotel interior and atmosphere is very nice boutique style. Breakfast was "build to order" due COVID19 with high quality ingredients and warm courses to many tastes. The hotel personnel service and hospitality were excellent and with personal warmth and caring. The extra bonus is the Hotel mascot Parrot lady Misha. She is also a very nice member of the staff.

The Grand Palace Hotel was perfect for our honeymoon. It is right in the centre of Old Town Riga so we were able to walk everywhere very quickly: restaurants, bars, spas, museums, historical buildings, the canal, the theatre/opera, etc.

The staff were extremely helpful, booking tables at restaurants, helping us book bus/train tickets to the beach or countryside, organising a car from and to the airport, and overall providing plenty information.

Cleanliness was excellent; every day when we came back to the hotel the room was made up nicely.

The decor in the common areas was beautiful, very grand and 'old world.' The decor in the room was nice, just a fairly standard modern hotel room look.

Internet was excellent. Lots of hot water in bathroom. Plenty amenities. AC/air con was BRILLIANT for the August heat wave we had!!

We ordered room service a few times and they always delivered quickly and to a very high standard. The food is excellent -- try the dumpling soup, or the duck breast. A bit pricey, but not that much more expensive than a posh restaurant in town.

Talk about Cold War throwbacks! How this hapless shell of a hotel that doesn't seem to have changed in 30 years could rate 5 stars or even be considered for membership in Leading Hotels of the World, let alone retain that association, is beyond belief. Shame on LHW for not throwing this place out of its stable of world class properties. The Savoy in Moscow in 1989 was substantially more luxurious than this place is in 2022.

The truth is that the accommodations here feature permanently stained carpets and furniture, to the point that we have laid out towels on the chairs and sofa so that we have a protective barrier when we sit down.

The Internet does not work, but of course management claims they have never had a complaint before. Yet the “public” Internet is such a joke here that supposedly each room has its own router and individual “secure” code. The problem is that for the first several hours it didn’t work at all and then, when the outside IT provider coached the hotel on how to make it work, it kicked us out every 5-10 minutes, generating new “secret” codes that we had to access from the TV just to sign back in, only to get through it again in the next 5-10 minutes. Sounds like Mission Impossible? More like Hotel Impossible!

The hotel is due to close this Fall, supposedly for a reno. Uh-huh.

Great location in heart of the attractive old town, this is the perfect place to stay. However, old cobblestone streets and many stairs into the hotel make this not a good place to stay if you have any mobility issues.

No valet parking or any parking from what I could see. Fortunately we were always picked up and dropped off.

The hotel exterior looks like an embassy. This confused us when we first arrived as it has a large plaque proclaiming that this is the Austrian consulate. The hotel manager apparently is also the consul for Austria. But, in these trying days surely it's encouraging that the manager has senough free time that he can do two jobs to support himself and doesn't have to go dumpster-diving to feed his family.

The hotel interior is beautiful and very olde worlde as one would expect from an old building that has been converted into what one would normally call a "boutique hotel". Breakfast costs 25 Euros pp and is not really worth it. Had an omelette and experimented with an Eggs Benedict that was ok but not great. But, then again one has to go outside the touristy old town limits to get value for money.

The carpet in the corridor to our room seemed a bit dirty but the room was good. A highlight for me was that the bed was the most comfortable I experienced in Scandinavia dn the Baltics. I slept reasonably well for the first time in a week.

The very best part of the hotel that made our stay wonderful and delightful was that a parrot "Misha" lives in a cage in the breakfast restaurant. However, I was very happy that Misha is allowed to fly free for much of the day. Many times we would come back and walk through the room, find Misha perched on some furniture above my head, and we could have a chat with her relating our day. Misha is a great listener and makes interested noises as if to say, "Really?" and "Do go on"... Much better value than a therapist!

I will miss Misha and will stay here again so long as Misha continues to fly free!
