Four-star boutique Hotel Justus is located in the very of the old town of Riga, literally a few steps away from the famous Dome cathedral, within the architectural area protected by UNESCO as a part of world heritage. The immaculate renovation of the historical building was completed by April 2009, and so today the authentic facade conceals 45 cosy rooms uniquely designed to embrace the charm of genuine brickwork combined with fascinating art objects, antique as well as contemporary. Personalised service matched with attractive pricing policy makes Hotel Justus of great interest for a wide range of guests. The hotel’s site possesses high historical value, since it was part of the plot of land selected by Bishop Albert as the location for his Baltic residence back in 1210. However, the medieval wooden housing was destroyed by the fire in the 17th century, so the architectural ensemble comprising Jauniela Street today dates back to the 18th century. The facade of the hotel itself underwent the last major alteration in 1874. The building hosted a tavern in the early 19th century that was later replaced by typography and lithography services, in the 20th century it was occupied by artisan workshops, pharmaceutical laboratories, and then a cinema gallery and offices. Charms of architecture and historical atmosphere made this place a favourite shooting spot of Soviet movie-makers. Now the hotel belongs to a small group of friends that has spotted an empty run-down building and revived it with artistic energy.Idea of making restaurant Aleks comes from the simple desire to enjoy Riga of the beginning of the previous century. Interior is made from the household items of those times, which gives the restaurant unique look.

One of the nicest hotels I've stayed in during 12 years of travelling around central and eastern Europe. A perfect location for sightseeing around Riga, within walking distance of everything you might need to get to. All of the reception staff I spoke to were extremely friendly and helpful, actively asking as to anything they could do to help with things such as with extending my booking for the day, arrangements for my checking out early in the morning offering coffee or a packed breakfast. The building itself is lovely and fits in perfectly with the beautiful old town of Riga, but inside has plenty of modern touches to make guests comfortable. At a rate of just under 40 euros per night, this was incredibly good value. Thank you for a lovely stay.

The hotel has value for money in the old town area of Riga. Check in was smooth and we were able to get into our room quickly to drop off our bags and get to Arena Riga for an ice hockey game with limited time to get there. The location is very central to the sites of Riga's old town and there are some very good restaurants nearby. There are quite a few convenience stores and souvenir shops nearby but they close fairly early. The hotel has a very interesting feeling to it with exposed brick walls and original/restored wood beams and stairs. We appreciated that it also had an elevator to get to the top floor we stayed on.

We booked the twin room and had a pleasant stay and the room was quiet enough to get a good night's rest despite the bars nearby. The beds were comfy but the pillows were a little thin. The room had a fully stocked mini bar with decent prices which would help if we got desperate for drinks. There was a large wardrobe and a small work desk in the room too. There were also plugs conveniently placed around the room so we could get all our devices charged. The bathroom was quite large and we appreciated the hot shower and towel warmer. They provide handsoap and a body/hair gel for the shower. The rooms have air conditioning and the windows open to help with the stuffiness. The twin rooms have a slanted ceiling so my short wife had the bed on the slanted side and had no issues.

The breakfast was very good and we enjoyed the variety of food brought out both mornings. They had hot items which changed a bit each day and included an egg omelette, bacon, potatoes, a Latvian pancake and sausages. There was a good spread of cold items too and we are sure a vegetarian would be satisfied with the offerings of vegetables, cheeses, devilled eggs and fruit. The coffee machine made a very good hot chocolate and they also provided juice and water with breakfast. There is a bar behind the check in counter that is open to hotel guests and a nice seating area in the lobby too if you're looking for something more later.

There is a sauna at the hotel but we weren't sure if it was open during our stay or what time it did open because there were no hours posted and we didn't get a chance to ask the staff. There is very limited free parking near the hotel and it seemed like the same local parked in front of the hotel each day. We would recommend taking the bus from the airport if you have the time but if you're in a hurry Bolt is pretty affordable in Riga to get around. There are car rentals north of the hotel and Bolt works in old town to book electric scooters and cars which was pretty convenient during our visit in Riga.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed and positive review of Hotel Justus! We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us, from our convenient location in The Old Town to our unique and cozy rooms with exposed brick walls and original wood beams. It is wonderful that you found our breakfast offerings satisfying and that you appreciated the variety of hot and cold items available. We are also glad to hear that you found our beds comfortable, the room amenities convenient, and our staff helpful. We apologize for any confusion regarding the sauna hours and the limited parking situation. We will ensure that this information is communicated clearly to our guests in the future. But in general sauna is available, you just have to inform us at least one hour before you would like to use it. About the parking, as we are located in the old town, there are two good options for parking, one is Europark which is located on the other side of the old town, 5-7 minutes walking distance to Hotel Justus, and other option is public paid parking on 11 Novembra Krastmala, 3-5 minutes walking distance to Hotel Justus. We appreciate your recommendation and your kind words about Hotel Justus and for the excellent feedback. We are looking forward to welcome you back for another pleasant stay when you are in Riga. Best regards, Einars Klukovics Front Office Manager.

I requested a specific room and they gave it to us...the other person in our party...grrr! My spouse reminded me that although our room was quite stark in features, it had two big windows that provided the best view in probably the whole hotel and let in the cool breezes when opened. I did enjoy that aspect. Staff was very nice, everything clean, breakfast a bit somber and small in choices but one should waste preparing excess food for the size of hotel. I liked the towel warmer in our bathroom to dry hand laundry as we were on the road 3 weeks and I was disappointed how expensive it would be to send it out. Easy location, right value.

It's always difficult when choosing a hotel from Internet booking sites but this one in particular gained my attention and we were not disappointed. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly by the very friendly and helpful receptionist. Initial impressions were very good and the decor very appealing. Our standard room was clean, spacious, comfortable and perfect for a week's stay. A comfortable chair or two would have been nice as an alternative to lounging on the bed. The shower room was spacious and provided all the essential items one would expect, including a hair dryer. The TV was adequate and a safe was conveniently provided in the wardrobe. The free WiFi throughout the hotel was excellent. Breakfast was served in the restaurant every morning and a good range of cereal, fruit, meat, cheese, croissants and cakes were available as was tea, coffee and fruit juice. The staff in attendance were most helpful and courteous. There is also a lift in the hotel. A small bar served wine and drinks in the downstairs lobby which was a nice place to lounge. Given that the temperature in Riga dipped to minus 15 degrees with heavy snow on the ground during our stay it is worth mentioning that the hotel and our room were exceedingly warm and comfortable at all times! The location of the hotel gives very easy access on foot to the main sites of interest in the Old Town and I would highly recommend Hotel Justus to anyone looking for an ideal place to stay in Riga.

My husband and I have just returned from a short break in Riga. We stayed at Hotel Justus and recommend it very highly.
The location is ideal, situated in the Old Town near to the House of the Blackheads and walking distance to most of the sites (museums, Freedom Monument, churches and Riga Cathedral as well as many bars and restaurants.
We were on the fourth floor overlooking the street, it was quiet with no disturbances.
The staff were friendly and the reception staff were helpful and informative giving advice and help when we were asking about travel information or visiting some local sites and areas (we took a train trip to the coast at Jurmala and the lovely ladies on reception gave me train times for two different stations on the coast)
Breakfast was great with lots of choice including fresh and dried fruit, yogurts, cereal, breads, cheese, cold meats an fish, boiled eggs, bacon, sausages as well as some cakes/biscuits.
Thank you

Hotel Justus is in a fantastic location to experience the Old Town with everything you want to explore and visit within a few minutes walk. Moreover, there are bars, restaurants and cafes on the doorstep. Rest assured, this does not cause any noise disruption - the hotel was silent. The staff were an absolute asset to the hotel - all were very friendly, polite, attentive and considerate. If ever there were issues, the staff would deal with them quickly. They truly made you feel welcome, and there was always someone on the reception happy to answer your questions, as well as provide a map that showed key tourist attractions and information - this was particularly useful to navigate tourist attractions. Around the reception area downstairs, there were plenty of comfy sits to read or people watch. The temperature inside the hotel was always warm despite the autumnal nip and rustic brick work design. The interior design of the hotel was both rustic and elegant, and details a history of what preceded the current site with interesting items to be found in the corridors. This made it feel special. Breakfast was overall nice, however the coffee was very bitter and there could’ve been more choice. It was also a shame that there was no kettle or tea and coffee within the room. Nevertheless, the soaps provided were nice amenities. The rooms themselves were clean, but the beds did feel cheap and were not particularly comfortable. Despite this, cleaners were regular in the mornings and kept the room tidy and would replace towels. The view from the room that overlooked the street is worth a mention since it presented a beautiful art nouvelle style building opposite. Honestly, for the price this hotel and locality was excellent. If not for the bed, room amenities, breakfast and coffee, it would’ve been a 5 star review!

After lot's of research I booked this hotel for 4 of us, 2 couples, to stay for 3 nights.
We wanted to be in the old town and this place was perfect for walking everywhere around the old and new areas.
From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we were in awe of the place.
A budget friendly hotel in the most perfect location, on a cobbled street. We couldn't have been happier.
You could spend a day just looking around at all the different quirky things on display around the hotel.
We loved our beautiful rooms, all seem to have a different look. All good.
The free buffet style breakfast each morning was a great start to the day.
A nice selection, cold meats, cheeses, cereal, fresh fruits, variety of yogurts, salads, hot foods to name but a few. Tea, coffee, juice, water all available. The only thing I couldn't find was breakfast tea but there was plenty of others to choose from. Everything was fresh and replenished all the time by the staff.
The staff are a true credit to the hotel, they could not be more helpful.
On our last day we passed some time on at Jurmala beach, recommended by the lovely Karina (forgive me if I have spelled this wrong) She gave us a map and drew a circle of which part of the beach to head to. It was one of the highlights of our trip. Thank you, Karina.
All the staff were fantastic and I would like to give a special mention to Ruslans and again, forgive me again if I have spelled your name wrong. He was so patient and kind with us, new to the country and city. What lovely helpful staff.
We 100% will stay here on our next visit to Riga and tell all our friends too.
What a fantastic place Latvia, and Riga is, a real hidden gem....
Just to add there is a 24 hour bar which the lads enjoyed a night cap each night whilst us girls when to bed.
Thank you, Justus Hotel, we will be back.
Best wishes from Pat, Terry, Lynne and Phil. Hope to see you all again x

Dear Pat, Terry, Lynne and Phil, Thank you very much for your rewarding and informative comment following your stay at Hotel Justus that definitely will be extremely useful for future Guests of Hotel Justus. We aim to provide an excellent city break experience and we are delighted that we achieved that, thanks to our brilliant location that of course very central and unique for exploration of Old Town. Also, Ruslans and Karina were greeted accordingly. Since, our re-opening this July, we are serving breakfast directly to the room due to the Covid-19 related restrictions, and this is the only thing that has changed since your last trip to Riga. We really are looking forward to welcoming you again in future. With warm regards from Riga, Vladimirs Bessmertnovs Sales Manager

We were rather disappointed by this hotel. The entrance is not very inspiring. The reception staff were fine. Our room though quite spacious, seemed a little tired, although that maybe due to the colour scheme. Our biggest issue with this hotel was the breakfast. The only fresh fruit served was melon, the only bread was basic sliced loaf, the tea and coffee came out of a machine. Overall we struggled to find anything very appetising amongst the limited choice, not what we expected from a four star hotel. The seating was quite uncomfortable in the dining room.

We spent four nights in this impressive historical hotel which is full of old world character and right in the heart of the Old Town and consequently well situated for the sights and many good restaurants.
The hotel reception staff were efficient and helpful at all times. The room was comfortable, clean very spacious and well maintained at all times.by the housekeeping staff who were attentive and gave good service at all times. The room had all mod cons inspite of its charming antiquity. Good tasty breakfast served by pleasant and helpful English speaking staff. Would highly recommend this hotel if you are in Riga.

Loved this Hotel, so centrally located. Rooms are so individual and well appointed. Staff are lovely and friendly before and during stay. I asked for bed to be made up as a twin as I was staying with my sister and could we have a kettle in the room, both ready and waiting on our arrival.
Breakfast was plentiful and good quality, coffee was also very nice. We used store room and lobby on our last day as it was very cold outside and we had a late flight.
This is an amazing hotel in a fantastic location and we would highly recommend

What about parking?
Answer from Hotel Justus
Riga, Latvia
Dear Barbara, Thank you for your inquiry! Unfortunately, we do not provide a parking lot at the hotel site due to the driving restrictions in Old Town of Riga. We offer individual service, first guest arrives to the hotel (it is allowed to leave the car up to 10 minutes at the hotel) and then we provide with parking information and usually our porter helps and goes together with guests to the parking lot. We provide guests with a closest underground parking (5-7 minutes walking distance from our hotel) – Europark Jacobs Arcade which is located also in the Old Town. Additional rate is 15.00 eur for 24 h which is to payed by guests at the lot. Please, do not hesitate to contact us for any further questions or inquiries! Can one take a taxi from the airport to the hotel?
Answer from Hotel Justus
Riga, Latvia
Dear Guest, Thank you for your kind inquiry! There are two taxi companies that are located in front of the arrivals of RIX airport - "Red Cab" and "Baltic Taxi". Both provide good service and rates are appropriate. Rate from RIX airprot to Hotel Justus (Jauniela 24) should not be more than 12-15 euros as that depends on a traffic during certains hours. We also provide our special pick up service from the airport to hotel. If you choose such option, please contact hotel directly in order to book the transfer. Kind regards, Hotel Justus administration
