We had a basic twin room and I was very impressed by the details in the room and the comfort of the beds. The room itself was not very large (for example, the door opened right next to one of the beds), but generally there was plenty of space for two us to move around without falling over each other and the bathroom was also not very large, but the shower had excellent pressure and was just what we needed before bed every night. There were also nice small touches in the bathroom, such as the cotton buds. Our room was also at the end of a corridor and faced inwards, which meant we never had a problem with any noise - inside or out!
The bar area was a good place to relax, although the drinks selection isn’t huge and I was surprised it closed as early as it did. However, when you have Budapest on your doorstep why would you stay in the hotel?! We didn’t ever have breakfast at the hotel as once we were up we wanted to get moving, plus at c. €15 per person you would want to be sure you were there to enjoy it.
One of my main reasons for choosing the hotel was its location on the M2 line and the hotel could not be any closer. It is on top of the station, so from front door to platform takes about two minutes. Very handy indeed. You could argue that many other hotels in Budapest are better located and with finer views. This is hard to dispute, as the city has hundreds of hotels and some do indeed have very fine views. That said, assuming you’re happy to leave your room and seek out the views on foot, being located next to the Metro and trams makes moving around the city very easy indeed.
We had a very good stay here and all the staff we met were very professional and polite. We would happily return in the future.
The rooms are comfortable and decorated to a high standard. The only issue would be the inability to properly control the temperature in the room. We had to open the large windows to cool the room, which worked well with the outside temperature below 10C. We did experience some noise in the waste water system borne of activity in other rooms in the hotel.
Breakfast is a generous affair with a wide choice of cooked options together with a large selection of cold meats, cheese, fruit and cereals. The bread selection includes some interesting speciality breads complimented with jams and honeys.
Recommend this hotel for its ideal situation near to public transport for visiting all attractions in Budapest. Excellent choice for a weekend city break.
During our stay, we enjoyed the suite (on 2nd floor), the two communicative rooms (on 5th floor), the sauna, the breakfast buffet (very complete) as well as the bar-restaurant in the evening (our kids could even practice on the piano). All the staff was always available and helpful before our arrival (special thanks to Robert Tanczos) as well as during our stay (organisation for taxi, they also made a conference room available for us to wait until our rooms become available). The hotel and staff made our stay in Budapest very pleasant. It is very central within walking distance to the Jewish quarter, National Opera or the famous Széchenyi thermal bath. We would certainly come back to this hotel during our next visit in Budapest.
The reception team are very helpful and provided both an iron and straighteners which was a much needed added bonus!
The location is fantastic, most tourist attractions are within 20-30 minute walk, including the lively area full of bars and restaurants such as the ruin bar Szimpla Kert.
