The Grand Hotel Union garners accolades for its exceptional service, with staff routinely described as helpful and friendly. Guests revel in the sophisticated atmosphere, adorned with Art Nouveau decor that enhances the hotel’s elegance.
While the central location is a highlight, making city exploration a breeze, some guests feel the value proposition is marred by a non-operational bar and underwhelming pool facilities. Room comfort and cleanliness receive high marks, though a few guests have noted they can be on the smaller side with sporadic maintenance oversights.

Central location in the pedestrian walkway. Clean and bright with attention to every detail for my comfort. I was greeted on arrival by Tommy who upgraded us to a suite over looking the pedestrian walkway He arranged for a return ride to the airport and offered a box breakfast since our fight was before the start of the buffet breakfast The breakfast buffet was fresh and many Slovenian traditional foods
The staff was friendly and accommodating .
I would stay at this hotel again and recommend it to anyone traveling to Lubjiana

The Grand Union hotel is a stones throw from the three bridges in the main tourist area of Ljubljana. Everything is within walking distance so you couldn’t wish for a more central location.
Our two rooms (we’re a family of 5 with triplet daughters aged 15) were tastefully decorated (the hotel has an art deco interior to match its exterior), decent sized and very quiet. We couldn’t even hear noise from the corridor overnight let alone outside.
Breakfasts were plentiful and tasty. Nothing ran out when we were there but probably worth not leaving it to the last minute.
The indoor hotel pool is in the other adjoining hotel and quite small. The ‘terrace’ is minuscule and more of a balcony; certainly no space for sun loungers!
We walked for miles all round the city. On a particularly hot day we visited the city lido; it was recently refurbished and perfect for cooling off.

São 30min de táxi desde o aeroporto (35 euros) e um pouquinho mais de ônibus até a rodoviária da cidade (2 euros), mais uns 5min a pé pela bela Miklosceva e seus prédios em Junge Stil e art nouveau.
The adjective grand suits the hotel, not part of the Eurostar chain, for it was once the most prestigious in the city; some may find it dated and even tacky: big chambers, tall walls, chandeliers, sculptures, broad staircase, imposing glasswork...
Hana is simply amazing, che really enjoys what she does and cares, reading guests well and catering the possibilities into their exact needs! If only some hotels has a concierge like she...
Anyway, location is great, everything is within walking distance from the hotel, bearing in mind that the Slovenian capital is small and a weekend is enough to tick all attractions.
Rooms are quite nice but still have the flair of last century in their design and furniture: the place ist just not modern and that doesn't mean it doesn't meet its purposes.
Breakfast ist served in an adjacent room to reception and has hot dishes, cold cuts, cheeses, salmon, (carton) juices and pastry, along with prosecco for those who like some bubbles to start the day with.
In the sister hotel next-door one find the pool and wellness on the 8th floor, everything indoors.
Internet works quite well, all-day parking costs 20 euros and they can arrange any excursion you need.
It turns out to be an excellent choice for Ljubljiana even if not a modern one.

We booked this hotel due to its location and Art Nouveau architecture. It's definitely the most central hotel and although sadly devoid of some original features it ticked the right boxes. It seems that the hotel was renovated at a time when original mouldings, fixtures and fittings etc. were undervalued. Hence it's a bit of a mish-mash of Beua Arts and 80's decor. On arrival, we were met by a very friendly reception staff who directed us to an upgraded room which, I am delighted to say, was a great improvement on the room shown on the hotels' website. The bed was massive and incredibly comfortable and the room also offered a sofa and enormous TV. Limited channels though. Although we had a shower and no bath, the room was imaculately clean and kept that way thanks to a fantastic housekeeping team. Breakfast was ok with a wide choice and hosted by a cheerful young team. The dining area was vast, but lacking in atmosphere due to the monumentally high ceilings and a slightly cool ambience. This same room doubles as the bar of an eveing and could be improved by lowering the lights and possibly the addition of some candles. It never seemed busy and that's very likely why. It felt like having a drink in a brightly-lit gymnasium. Overall, we were happy at the Grand Hotel Union and pleased that we booked the hotel. It would be lovely if the hotels' owners put back some of the original features as it has a great deal to offer at a reasonable price.

I tossed up whether to give this hotel 4 stars (very good) or 3 stars (average), but decided on four, because it is much better than the average hotel.
We stayed in the hotel for two nights; the main reason for our stay was to visit the Christmas Night Market in Ljubljana, which were really great. In fact they were definitely the best Christmas Markets we visited on this trip, having previous been to the Christmas Markets in Munich and Vienna.
The hotel is in a fantastic location in this charming city, being within close walking distance to just about everything.
Our room was beautifully furnished, but it was very small and we had difficulty finding space for our suitcases. Other than that, it had a very comfortable bed, lovely bathroom, free WiFi and tea/coffee making facilities.
The hotel has a restaurant, but for some reason, it didn't look that great so we opted to go out and sample some local restaurants during our two night stay. There are plenty of good restaurants within close walking distance, in fact as for restaurants and bars, you are spoiled for choice.
The bar in the hotel looks like it has been shut down, but you can get drinks from the waiters in the restaurant (you will need to chase them up) and they will get whatever drinks you desire and (for a change) at very reasonable prices. You can have your drinks in the lounge.
Breakfast was adequate. Not the best breakfast buffet I have had and the choices were not large, but certainly sufficient to get your day off to a reasonable start.
We really enjoyed our visit to Ljubljana. It has a charm that gets you in and I can see why it is becoming such a popular tourist destination.

The chief virtue of this hotel is its location on the edge of the pedestrian zone in the old city an easy walk from the river, the castle, and all of the chief attractions of Ljubljana. Getting past the location, this is a classic old European hotel, which means the rooms are small with little storage space for clothes, the bathrooms tiny, and the shower a little challenging. The bed was comfortable, but with the odd feature of some older European hotels of having separate covers for each person in the double bed. And the temperature controls didn't seem effective. However, the included breakfast was very good and served in a grand old room with very high ceilings and old world charm. All in all, I prefer this hotel over a more modern hotel that is not convenient to the old city. But your preference will be guided by your priorities.

A five star stay all the way around! The facility is in beautiful historic district, with elegance and grandeur to match. Impeccably clean and supremely maintained. We were thrilled to be upgraded to a suite on their most recently renovated floor, with design, interior space and room amenities all being above and beyond, an absolute 10 out of 10. All of our staff encounters were warm and gracious, with all exerting genuine hospitality. The front desk was so helpful w/ dinner recommendations and reservation at the oldest operating restaurant in Ljubljana, named Sestica. The menu was their traditional cuisine prepared in the most authentic way. Back to the hotel: A wonderful breakfast is included in a beautiful and well appointed dining room. As a bonus, their spa with Thai massage was amazing, and invitingly affordable by all standards. Carve out an hour and a half to treat yourself, you more than likely deserve and have earned such a reward. One note to which requires distinction: Union Eurostars and Grand Union Eurostars are not the same. Yes, they are affiliated and directly and openly connected, yet the similarity ends there. Union is more modern, and nothing wrong with it, just to similar to any chain Hotel anyone can find virtually anywhere. Grand Union, is an historic building, that evokes Grand European styling, and tradition, which is tantamount for us when staying in an Historic center! I also note that distinction, as the taxi driver did not know the difference and were dropped off @ Union reception, and after waiting a few minutes to get checked in, we were advised with complete courtesy that we would be met by her colleague @ Grand Union reception just around the corner. Bravo, Grand Union, we hope our travel plans provide a return visit down the road, and there is nowhere else we would ever consider staying than here.

As a highly experienced International traveller over many decades, I'm surprised that Hotel Grand Union does not rank top in every category in Ljubljana on TA. Perhaps not being inexpensive (but great value : I'll get to that!) results in fewer reviews. I also found some of the negative reviews to be suspectly incomprehensible based on my own subjective experience in this property.
This is a "Grand" Hotel in the fine European tradition, which might not suit everyone because elegance has gone out of fashion. It is ideally located by the Triple Bridge and Preseren Square at the main access point to the old town and just a few minutes walk from everything. The rooms are spacious and all the staff are friendly and accommodating. The breakfast buffet is excellent.
My reviews always focus on value for money (different to price) and although this hotel is not the cheapest, in view of the quality and all of the above, it represents excellent value.
Being a small City, pretty much walkable, I took the opportunity to visit some of the higher TA-ranked hotels for reference and, IMHO, in the context of all the above metrics, particularly location, Grand Union deserves to be ranked more highly.
I checked-in a few days after flying to London on a longhaul from Asia and was still feeling tired. Receptionist Mr. Tomi was warmly welcoming and he got me through the check-in formalities quicly, efficiently and most pleasantly. He also kindly checked me into a room with a beautiful view over the Church and the Triple Bridge area, which made my short stay in Ljubljana so much more enjoyable and for which I am extremely grateful..
All in all this was a wonderful stay and if I ever have another opportunity to return to this beautiful (and still largely unknown) City, I would not want to stay anywhere else.

The hotel is located in the city center 100 meters from the three bridges. We were in a deluxe twin room. The room is extremely spacious and modernly equipped, the bar is included in the price of the room, which is updated daily, and for coffee and tea lovers there is also a kettle with tea and instant coffee, the beds are extremely comfortable. Although there is no noise outside in the city center. There is a hairdryer in the bathroom, some sort of trouser ironing machine (although I experienced it that way), an iron and ironing board for those horses who want to be in tune with this extremely elegant hotel. Breakfast is varied (there is also champagne :)), only the tables for two are very small, and the biggest drawback is that breakfast ends at 9 am? Anti covid measures are respected even though no one will really chase you if you don't have a face mask every moment. The wellness is solid, maybe having another sauna would be ok. The pool is large enough and the water is not cold, and there is the possibility of short and long massages. As the pool is used together with Uhotel, it is necessary to announce the use, but there was never a crowd in the pit. There is also a pool bar with non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks. All in all a great hotel and value for money and offered for 5

Not sure what that might mean. Best to check direct with the hotel. I saw no signs of shared bathrooms or shared accommodation.
From 7 but you can tell the lobby you are leaving early and they will make a special pack for you. I did that.
Yes, there is.
No official shuttle service, but if you ask they get a taxi arranged from within their networks, and the fare is same or even cheaper than normal taxi rates. We took the transfer on way back for airport drop, I think they charged about 35 Euro (paid directly to the taxi driver).
