First the positives, the staff were very friendly and helpful. This building is a rabbit warren of stairs and corridors in an old converted building, it is a real gem architecturally. The room we had was a suite and it had a lovely bathroom with a large bedroom with a high ceiling and beautifully frescoed fresco. The bed was very comfortable with high quality cotton sheets. There were nice armchairs and a good flatscreen tv. The location of the hotel is perfect. Just 1 street behind the very busy pedestrian area beside the river, so, 1 minute walk from the action but on a quiet street.
What did not work for me was that the room was hot, and, there is no aircon. Also, there were 2 windows, but, one did not open as it was screwed shut, so, it was not possible to cool the room down in the morning or evening. There was a tall fan standing in the corner, but, it only served to move around the hot air, not to cool the room.
The other challenge was that there was no shower, there was a nice bath, and it had a hand held shower head with a lead so that you could kind of shower while holding it in one hand. The water pressure was good.
There is no car park in the hotel which is located in the old centre which is pedestrianised. You need to phone the hotel and the receptionist walks out to where the street barrier is (approx 5 min walk from the hotel) and guides you to onstreet parking and gives you a permit to display in your car. This costs €35 per day which is expensive and they should really tell you it will cost this much when you are booking the hotel.
Try to book a rate that includes breakfast, or, you will pay

We went for our business trip to Ljubliana and stayed at this hotel. Everyone of us had a different, very unique room. The bed was big and comfortable and breakfast to our satisfaction. The hotel team was very kind and attentive, they made sure we had everything we needed.

The hotel is centrally located in a quiet street very close to sights, bars, restaurants, etc. Even though the hotel is situated in an old palace (allegedly formerly owned by the Italian royal family), you are unfortunately NOT in for a royal treatment! The hotel is a confusing maze of corridors, stairs, levels, etc. Our suite was very spacious and bright, and was partially furnished with antique cupboard, tables, etc. but they didn't manage to keep this style all the way through, beds are really comfortable. The staff is very helpful, but it is a bit difficult to find out, when the reception is manned, and when it is not, but as you let yourself in with the room key, it normally causes no difficulties. Breakfast is VERY basic (probably because the hotel is small = 20 rooms). We visited the hotel after all covid restrictions were suspended: But still the rooms would not be cleaned (allegedly "due to Covid"), unless you specifically requested it - what a weird scheme/explanation! WARNING: The hotel shares courtyard with a music conservatory (in several floors), so for 10 hours a day you are "entertained" unfortunately NOT with music but with endless, annoying and nerve wrecking scales, instrument tuning, etc. so if you are not 100% sure to have a room facing the street: Stay away from this hotel – it is torture!

We wish we had paid more attention to the reviews before booking the Antiq Palace. Our room wasn't made up and the tea/coffee station was not replenished before we took the room on. Reception told us that due to a bit of a panic by the cleaning company over covid, rooms were only serviced at the specific request of the guest! We were not told this and anyway, are covid restrictions not a thing of the past? The silicone around the bath showed signs of mould as did the grout in the tiles in the shower. The toilet bowl looked like it had not been cleaned. There was no soap in the dispensers. Staff eventually left bars of hand soap and tiny bottles of shower gel. The tap dripped, as did the bidet. The plug in the sink doesn't stay in place had we wanted to fill the sink. The shower head in the main shower was pretty useless. Blinds on the window were broken or didn't work properly. There was 3 hangers in the wardrobe. There was a huge TV on a sideboard - the screen had a distracting crackly fault line right across the screen. Having said all of this, the staff at reception were very nice and very helpful.

The good, the room was nice and big and breakfast food selection was nice. The problems; When reserving the room I requested from the website to have a quiet room, this was not given to us. Extremely noisy hotel, there was an event the 1st night we were there, as they were packing up the people were banging doors, talking loudly in the street and banging things in cars till past 2 AM. Almost impossible to sleep after 25 hours of flying. The room itself is quite loud, it sounded like the devil himself was boring up from the center of Earth into our bathroom at midnight or later, horrendous noise that woke us up every night. The front desk clerk called our room AT 12:30 AM!!!! the last night when we had to wake up at 4 AM to catch a flight. Not an appropriate time to settle the bill and very disrespectful of them. If you would like coffee at breakfast you will get one cup, then the workers disappear. No hope to get a second cup but that is it and you will never see them again. No proper shower, just a tub with a hose and sprayer.

The Antiq Palace is in a great location but that is the only thing going for it. We have a room on the third level but lift only goes to the second so it is then a circuitous route in and out of building to our room. Our room has filthy walls, mould in the bathroom and horrible towels that are threadbare in places. There is a kettle and some tea bags and coffee sachets but no cups. Supposedly bathrobes supplied in the room but we could only find a belt for a bathrobe. Despite advising staff of missing items it is now day 3 of a 10 night stay and still haven’t received at least the cups. Breakfast at 15 Euros a head would bring our bill for breakfast alone to 300 Euros. I bit much for us especially as our travel agent advised us breakfast was included. Don’t stay here!

The Pension is ideally located. All the best addresses in the capital can be done on foot in less than 10mn.
The service is suitable, with a concierge and all the necessary accessories in the rooms (towels, shower gel, bathrobes).
The staff is very friendly.
However, the Pension is outdated, the standard rooms are small (especially those under the roof). The bathrooms deserve to be redone.
Ps: no indication on a possible spa.

We traveled by car and we’re unable to get near the hotel due to street closures (received no prior information regarding this inconvenience). One from our party had to walk to find the hotel using navigation. Upon arrival at the hotel, he had to wait for someone to walk back to our vehicle with a card that would lower the street barricades to allow us through. Very inconvenient!!
We then made our way to the elevator with our luggage and the help of a very nice young man from the hotel named Christian. Unfortunately, the elevator wasn’t working, so we had to walk up two long flights of stairs to our rooms. In the hallway, Christian told us we had been “upgraded” to suites for no extra charge (red flag).
As we began to unpack, I had a question and tried to phone the front desk. The phone did not work, so I had to walk down (and up, again) two flights of stairs to ask my question and report the phone problem (there was another guest reporting the same phone issue). The two girls at the front desk said they didn’t know what was wrong and they would report it. Note: We stayed two nights, and when we left, the phone still wasn’t working.
Back up the two flights of stairs to prepare for dinner. The room was quite stuffy and warm (no air conditioning), so we opened the windows and turned on the fan provided. After returning from dinner and exhausted from a day of travel, we hoped for a good night’s sleep; however, we quickly realized this would not happen. The “upgraded” suite remained hot, and the noise from the alley made our night miserable. This was followed by the very early morning trash removal.
My suggestion: If you want to stay here (not my choice of decor), make sure you request a room away from the alley (the hotel entrance is in the alley).

I have very mixed feeling about this hotel. Location is a big advantage , the hotel is quite near the historical centre of the city. The staff was cooperative, fluent in English and friendly. The price for room was high, but much more reasonable than other hotels asked to pay in this district. Anyhow, I wish to stress that once you check in with this place- be ready to park your car at public parking - 3 minutes walking distance. The building of the hotel is dated to the 15th century, so far be ready to long corridors some smell (related to aged items) and not all rooms are equipped with AC which was a big disadvantage in our case. Breakfast- sufficient to satisfy any expectations especially tacking into consideration that omelet, eggs or similar can be ordered in addition for free. Summarizing: nice place, but personally I prefer to stay in new style building even if I will need to drive to see the old city, Good luck.

We had originally booked to stay here in summer 2020, before the pandemic. The hotel kindly allowed us to carry over our payment so that we visit Ljublana in September 2021. We stayed three nights, in an unpgraded large suite on the ground floor. The location is ideal, a couple of hundred metres inside the pedestianised Old Town (so most taxis cannot take you quite to the door but is is a short walk). And a similarly short walk to the river flowing through to town, with its banks filled with cafes and resturants. The hotel has no traffic noise. A music school next door, so there are occasional sounds of musicians rehearsing. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Some reviews from several years ago have said that the decor of the hotel is a bit tired, but this is not the case now. The bedrooms and other parts of the hotel are very immaculate . Ecellent breakfasts. Worth being shown how to open thr main front door with a key fob. for when returning after ten pm. The old town and centre of the city are great to walk around, and the buildings by their renowned architect Jose Plecnik well worth a vist.
