The vibrant atmosphere, with its lively entertainment and activities, enhances the guest experience, despite some concerns about room amenities and additional costs for certain services. Cleanliness across the property receives high marks, as does the diverse food selection and amenities, though some guests mention unheated pools. Liked · First of all let me thank the hotel and staff of how well they managed with all COVID measures and making us feel safe at all times. The quality of food was very good and there was lots of variety and choice every day. The open buffet was replaced by having staff at different stations to hand out food to you from behind plexiglass and wearing masks and gloves making it safe for everyone to enjoy their meals. There were sometimes waiting times for popular items but it was all ok. We liked the kids club and the water park which provided excellent entertainment for 2 times 2 hours. The pool itself is big and the area around it is really nice and plenty of umbrellas available. You can get free drinking water throughout the day no matter what board you booked. Just outside the gates is the beach where you can find plenty of places to rent a bed from at the beach for 4 to 5 Euro a day and there are some really good chiringuitos and restaurants with good local food as well. The beach promenade brings you to the area by the lighthouse as well where there is a choice of different restaurants, too. The room was on the small side for three but beds were very comfortable and the room had a balcony with a clothes line to hang. The bathroom was a bit dated but very clean and totally functional. The shower had excellent water pressure. Loved the aqua gym every day by the pool which was very upbeat. All in all the family enjoyed it and we would definitely consider coming back.
Disliked · Halfboard included no drinks whatsoever not even table water; charging 3 Euro per day for the safe; No rooms were cleaned on the Sunday; toilets in common areas were not very clean; toilets by pool smelled badly and are obviously hard to keep clean all the time with the swimmers; there were signs that said that reserving deckchairs was not permitted but it was common practice to do so and by 12 you would find it hard to find a free deckchair; no children entertainment in the evening (which meant kids were running around a lot incl. our own ;-) I would have wished for more vegetables in addition to salad and more fresh fruit at the buffet.

I checked in two days before the Coronavirus lockdown started in March 2020. There's nothing like a national emergency to test the mettle of a business, and this hotel came out tops.

The staff must have been very stressed, but without exception they were all courteous and friendly throughout my stay. When Fernando on reception told me the hotel would be closing, he found a flight home for me and had a very caring attitude which reassured me greatly.

Being stuck in the hotel for several days allowed me to become quite familiar with it. I had fortunately already paid for half board which was well worth it. The food was amazing, with a lot of choice at breakfast and dinner. The breakfast had everything you could possibly think of. At both breakfast and dinner, chefs were cooing food to order (eg omlettes, fried eggs, meat/fish). I'm a little sensitive to gluten and dairy and was hoping they'd at least have the bog standard soya milk that's usually offered at hotels. I was pleasantly surprised to find oat, soya and almond milk already waiting on the buffet table at breakfast, and when I asked for some gluten free bread, a warmed baguette was produced five minutes later protectively wrapped in cellophane.

There's a lovely outside area too which includes a large pool, children's area and a couple of table tennis tables. Inside, there is a games area with board games. There are various bars and snack places inside and outside.

My room was clean and surprisingly spacious, and came with a fridge which is always a nice addition. A laundry service is available and an iron can be asked for if you pay a deposit.

The bed was okay, with a hotel-provided mattress topper I could sleep but when I return I will take my memory foam mattress topper.

All in all this is a superb hotel and I look forward to coming back to have the holiday I didn't quite get this time.

There are lots of positives to this hotel and a holiday that was very much enjoyed and one we would like to return too.

There wasn’t many English here but a good sign it had a lot of Spanish staying. The food choice for an all inclusive is excellent. Fresh seafood, lots of meats, vegan option nights and fresh pasta and salad for the kids. Also a snack bar option with hotdog, chips and burgers for the more fussy eaters. Food wasn’t labelled very clearly though.

The hotel is very striking and well maintained from the gardeners to the cleaners of the rooms and surrounding areas. The hotel in general was very clean.

Really good security in and out of the hotel to the beach. Lovely promenade for a stroll in the evenings.

Splash park and entertainment staff was fab. Lots for kids of all ages to get involved in. Various fitness activities throughout the day also.

I give it a 4 rating due to a couple of things. For younger kids there isn’t much to do in the evenings. The kids disco is in the pool at 6.30pm which we found was the time we’d go up to get changed and showered ready for the evening. There was then nothing until the evening show at 9.45pm which we found very late for the little ones. However we appreciate the Spanish timings for everything is much later, and it didn’t take us long to adjust.

The sunloungers around the pool are very very tight during peak times. There is a grass area to sunbath but everyone is fighting for what little shade there is as no parasols in this area. Also no tables to put your drinks on.

Staff - cleaners, security and restaurant staff were very friendly. Reception staff didn’t even ask how my stay was when I checked out and the people serving behind the bar in the day can be rude or moody looking. Download the Iberostar app, as we had a couple of small requests such as extra pillows and a socket issue, and was resolved very quickly through this service.

Pool bars didn’t open until 11am which we felt was rather late. Good selection of branded alcohol, although cocktails are premixed and didn’t offer much else outside of the cocktails listed. No Malibu available which is my favourite drink!

A couple of tips:
A full or side sea view room are amazing but will be noisy until 11.30pm.

The hotel has gone plastic free but have water dispensers around the hotel so bring your own water bottle to avoid multiple trips.

If you prefer a quieter dining experience, opt for earlier eating times as very busy, especially the later you dine.

Hotel is clean, nice, and large, the staff are all fabulous. From front desk to cleaners to bars, every single one of them are amazing, helpful and friendly.

The entertainment, mini disco not worth it, it’s by the pool (in the pool) at 6.30 when most families are getting ready in the room. The nighttime entertainment starts at 9.45/10pm and in my opinion is way too late for the kids who by now are usually restless and tired. However the shows are fantastic, we saw a frozen show and the greatest show with acrobatics, the whole team were brilliant.

The pool, the pool is clean, and lots to do including the splash pool. Bring swim shoes for your kids, the tiles that span the whole pool area are extremely slippery and kids are falling like bowling pins. It’s actually very dangerous! This is my big complaint. We had a 14m old with us and we couldn’t allow him to walk around near our beds. He had to be carried everywhere.

The food was good, but repetitive but good quality, they had theme night sections which broke it up a bit. The food was nice though.

The room. We booked a family room with a kitchenette. Our 5 year old is in pull out sofa in living room which is perfect, however the bedroom is way too small for the travel cot, we couldn’t open the wardrobe or climb into bed, we had to climb up from
The bottom. So after the first night we had to move the cot into the kitchen. Which worked for us but isn’t ideal.

The beach is 3 min walk out the back gate with a parade of shops and bars. Lovely for an evening stroll before the show starts.

Now for my biggest gripe! Sunbeds!!!! We slept in until 8am on our first morning and there was not a single bed left. The staff helped us grab what we could but it was hideous. So after speaking to other families they confirmed to get a bed you must have a towel on it by 7.30am or miss out. They have bed no one wants as it’s not got umbrellas- these are normally free until 8.30. There are signs saying no reserving beds, towels will be removed after 45m. The staff literally watch people leave their rooms, put towels down and go back to bed, in a week I’ve not seen staff remove a single towel. The towel hut opens at 10am, so either change your towels to fresh as you leave the pool the night before, or take your wet ones down in the morning and replace when the hut opens.

All in all I’ve had better, but defo had worse. It’s a lovely place for kids, our 5year old loves it, it could be better for little ones. Not so slippery, indoor aircon play area would be nice as they get sick of the sun pretty quick.

There are many things to admire about this hotel.
The building looks very appealing from the outside, styled with lots of Moorish features. The foyer is very swish and almost palatial. The hotel and grounds are very well kept, very clean and very well maintained. Rooms are not luxurious but are perfectly functional. Though only one restaurant the food was really good, with lots of choice for all tastes, including unexpected alternatives for the more adventurous. We had oysters one night, sushi on another, king prawns on another - probably the best quality, all inclusive food I've experienced. The staff were tip top, always smiling, friendly and very approachable. Clearly well managed. Outside the sunbeds are a little close together, very cosy at the height of the season. As usual it pays to get down early to throw a towel over the ones you want before they are reserved by someone else.
I found only three downsides.
If like me you are a beer lover, you're in for a big disappointment. The only beer on offer on the all inclusive menu is San Miguel, which has a harsh, metallic, chemical flavour. Truly awful.
It's not worth strolling outside the hotel, there's nothing even remotely interesting to see... Despite its name the hotel is actually situated in Torrox Playa, which is an Urbanisation, not a resort. It is only 4 blocks deep and comprises older houses and high rise apartment buildings stretching for a good few miles along the coast. It is very dull and completely featureless, in fact, rather scruffy. The hotel stands head and shoulders above the drab surrounds.
The hotel is situation right on the beachfront, across a promenade. The beach is very coarse, dark grey sand and small pebbles, more like gravel than sand. It turns an unattractive mud colour when wet. I didn't witness anyone from the hotel actually going onto the sea during my stay.

So if you're looking for a holiday to just lounge by the pool during the day, spend your evenings sipping cocktails after enjoying an excellent dinner, watching a decent standard floor show, then you will not be disappointed. Highly recommended.

This was our first time at this hotel and we loved every minute . We wanted to be near Nerja but liked the look of this hotel as it had a lovely promenade and a great beach right outside the hotel both are accessible from the gate which you access from the pool absolutely perfect . It was a lovely quiet area with a nice Spanish holiday feel lots of nice bars restaurants and a few shops but also a brilliant market on a Monday right beside the hotel it is only 10 mins from Nerja we got a taxi from the hotel cost 14 euro but worth it Nerja was beautiful . The atmosphere around the pool for children and adults was really good the star team all worked so hard to make sure everyone enjoyed themselves they area credit to the hotel. All areas around the pool / snack bar / pool bar restaurant were all kept spotless by the hard working staff who were all so friendly couldn’t do enough for you always with a smile. We went H/B which suited us both as we’re not big eaters and don’t really drink much alcohol we found the breakfasts and evening meal were always delicious plenty of choice all well prepared and the restaurant was spotless the staff all worked so hard . The bedroom was very comfortable spacious with a fridge and safe you need to pay for the safe .Water is available in all landings from taps we took our own water bottles and filled them up when needed water also available around the pool area etc. The only niggle I had was the sun loungers around the pool were very hard and became uncomfortable if you were lying or sitting on them for most of the day it would make a huge difference if there were cushions to put on them maybe management could look into this for the comfort of everyone young and old. We had a fantastic time at this beautiful hotel and would definitely recommend thanks for the lovely memories Malaga Playa

Excelllent hotel. Lovely location if you want a quite break. Nicely designed hotel with a Italian feel in design. Staff are some of the best I have come across. Friendly efficient and very helpful. I thought the food was excellent. We were all inclusive, which we thought was good value. Drinks were of reasonable quality and service was excellent. Orders placed on tablets, were delivered to your table in minutes by other staff members.I didn’t have a single complaint.
Here are a couple of things you might find useful. If you want a full pool or beach view you will have to pay extra. Apartments are side sea view only.Standard rooms look out over adjoining property or a car park. . Out of main season these are not busy and didn’t cause us any issues. Area is quite tidy and a ok view. The car park has a market on Mondays which starts around 8.30am. There are no kettles in the room or apartments. Tried to get one at reception but none available. There is a safe in the room, charge of 3 Euro a day. On arrival a credit card is required to cover any charges. The hotel is cashless apart from reception. You sign for drinks etc on a tablet and are billed at the end. You can hire pool towels, you pay 15 euro per towel deposit at reception and are refunded at checkout. You will need to produce your receipt to get your refund. Towels can be changed up to two times per day by the pool no charge. You can get currency at reception, 2.5% charge.

The biggest issue with The Iberostar Malaga Playa is the lack of staff. This is especially noticeable at reception, with people constantly arriving and leaving , but usually just 2 - 3 people handling a particularly long check in. With no other staff on hand, hotel guests can end up waiting an unreasonably long time (easily over 20 minutes) to speak with someone for the simplest of enquiries. Similarly in the dining area, when items run out, there is often no one on hand to replace them.

As someone that eats neither meat nor dairy I was really disappointed by a.) the variety of food and b.) the lack of labelling of food items, which narrowed my options further. Luckily there was always a good fish option, but after 7 straight days of (mostly) salad, white fish and rice for lunch and dinner, it would have been great to have more alternatives. For vegans it was worse and beyond salad and spaghetti there was little available. For the money they charge, it is not good enough. That said the staff were always friendly, mostly helpful and as accommodating as they could be.

As a family with young children another major issue was the late night entertainment. It is great that hotels put on shows, but theirs started every night at 10.15 pm (which is way too late for our children and many others to enjoy them). They were also incredibly noisy. Luckily our children slept through the noise, but when we wanted to sleep early, we often couldn't. Again, for the price you pay, it is crazy that you should be subjected to that. I have been to many hotels that do evening shows, but they are normally at a reasonable time that makes them accessible for everyone and they are away from (not outside) where guests sleep.

These issues aside, the rooms are perfectly fine, but don't come close to the price tag charged for them. The pool area is nice but unspectacular and the term 'all inclusive' doesn't actually include many items. I thought they had made a mistake when I got a bill on leaving for several items that would usually be considered included within the hotel price. Why exactly do they need to charge you a daily rate for access to the safe in your room?

Our stay was quite enjoyable in many respects but that was in spite of the hotel not because of it. Unfortunately it does not come near to matching the price tag for staying there.

Beautiful hotel, absolutely spotless. The staff are all so friendly and helpful, from the bar and restaurant staff to the cleaners, all very smiley and professional, also, the kids club team were fantastic! So much fun, my 4 year old daughter loved the kids club and mini disco at night.
The nights we stayed to watch the entertainment were good, the magician was brilliant!
The food was varied and tasty, especially the seafood night on world ocean day.
Easy access to cold water via the machines located by the lifts in all floors, jugs and glasses in rooms to refill, great eco friendly touch.
Good choice of drinks available on all inclusive.
Rooms were lovely and clean.
The pool area was beautiful and very well kept. The splash pool/slides area was great too.
Only complaint I have is that the shop at the front of the hotel sells inflatables, we used it for 3 days to be told on day 4 they weren’t allowed in the pool! I would suggest the shop stop selling them as this was a waste of money!
Overall a brilliant family hotel, good location. Would definitely recommend and will return in the future.

Loved our stay here the hotel, grounds and decor are amazing. The reception area is beautiful. We stayed in a side sea view room on the 3rd floor overlooking the pool area. The pool area is very spacious plenty of room to relax , with a pool bar also numerous day time activities available. Loved the fact that you need your room key to enter or exit onto the promenade/ beach area.
Our room good size & plenty of storage for us . A free fridge available also a chargeable safe @ €3 a day not sure why a 4* hotel should charge for this?.
Bathroom good with all the toiletries you would need.
A point to note this is a cashless hotel all charges including the safe are made to the room payable when you leave.
Something that really stands out is the fact that the hotel is very aware of the environment we loved that water fountain are available in the corridors and bar areas with a bottle supplied for you to refill . OTHER hotels should take note as this does really make you think!. We liked the plants growing just outside our door really nice.
The food was a good choice and variety with theme nights like Mediterranean, mexican etc . My only negative was some food items where not the hottest. A microwave available if you feel you need just to reheat something. Good choice at breakfast again some items not the hottest.
The entertainment a bit hit & miss . A kids club available to keep them entertained. Drinks prices are on the reasonable side as we went half board.
Would we stay again ? Most definitely and have already mentioned to friends & family to give it a try
Thank you to all the staff who work very hard.

I’m here now I with my daughter & no real pool music daytime is fine. Mini disco is at 8pm for 30 mins but you can avoid it & have a drink/relax/ play a game elsewhere if it’s too loud. Hope that helps, it’s a lovely hotel
