We had a fantastic time at this beautiful resort. Staff were absolutely lovely, nothing was too much trouble. Horse riding was great (the guide was very kind when I was nervous), the spa was amazing and the waiting staff in the restaurant were chatty and fun without being intrusive and annoying. It was our second visit and I guarantee we'll be back!
Our 3rd trip in 8 years and the best yet. Congrats to Tim and the team for coming through the bushfires and Covid so successfully. Great to see the resort busy and as gorgeous as ever. This time our big plus points were: - food and beverage - better than ever… the new partnership with Bentley is working very well. Last time(2 years ago) I was disappointed in the included wines, but certainly not this time. Great job. Would still love to see the return of the degustation menu option, even if for a small add on fee. Nice to see the evening menu changing during our stay…. That’s really important for slightly longer trips. - we did more activities this time (as we had 4 nights), and they were all fabulous (although see further below) - we also took a lovely long walk out to a corner of the resort we’d not been to before and it was gorgeous - throughly recommended - we found our optimum length of stay - 4 nights is dreamy…. The 3 “total relax” days this gives you solely at the resort is heavenly. - our hosts on our activities were awesome, Kat on conservation is BRILLIANT, but so we’re our hosts for the stargazing campfire and archery - apologies I forgot their names - all staff we met with were brilliant. It was clear there were some less experienced staff around but in no way was this an issue, in fact the opposite as we enjoyed meeting everyone and hearing about their stories - for the first time we did the conversation activity and got to plant 17 new trees! It was brilliant. Even better for us is they are visible from the villas … in future years when we return we now really look forward to seeing how ‘our trees’ are getting along! Kat, who ran the activity with us was amazing, fun, knowledgeable, bursting with ideas and I very inspiring. I strongly recommend everyone do a conservation activity while at the resort Our feedback/opportunities are - activity booking… we’d booked (via email before arrival) the wilderness campfire and stargazing out on the resort…. We actually got the stargazing at 1832. It was still brilliant, but I didn’t realise about the change until the activity had actually started and we weren’t notified about the change at all (and didn’t want to embarrass our host by mentioning it just as we were starting)…. I was especially disappointed not to be out on the resort, nor to have any telescopes available - which were in the marketing for the activity. A shame but we still enjoyed it and our host was great, and from what I can make out we were billed for the lower cost 1832 based activity so I didn’t make a complaint while at the resort. - As with our stay 2 years ago, we continue to notice some minor work that needs to be done around the resort… a bit of a shame to see this hasn’t been done during the Covid closure (at least not to the villa we stayed in). Most of this is about the crumbling stonework around the pool in the villa. We appreciate this may be a high cost to fix but it needs to be done before long in our opinion. But, just to be clear for anyone reading this yet to visit the resort, these issues are very minor and the resort is stunning - We found our villa noiser than we remembered from previous trips, and the fact the pool pump seems to be running 24/7 is surprising. Could this be turned off at night to cut both noise and energy consumption? We also noticed the water tank behind the bathroom making quite a bit of noise every few hours which woke my wife a couple times. We really should have mentioned this while at the resort but she didn’t want to make a fuss. We don’t remember this from previous stays so I suspect it’s an issue with just the one villa (36) and probably already fixed. - Our activity hosts all had great ideas for potential new activities, which we loved and gave them our ideas on too… e.g. we’d love to see a more demanding walking trail up one of the peaks, a more in depth stargazing experience, a landscape or astrophotography themed trip (perhaps with an expert guide on a specific weekend?), options to dine out on the resort e.g. lunch on a deck. I got the feeling that getting new activities in the list wasn’t very easy, despite the great ideas from your team, but I may have read that incorrectly. We hope that as you continue building up the team you’ll be able to do more to add experiences and themed stays, as well as work on the marketing of these. - Also, are you working with regular / repeat guests to really deeply listen to feedback and get input into development…. we’d be so very happy to help if so - we think you could make much more of your environmental credentials within the marketing - it’s such an important part of the work you have done in establishing and running the resort - are there options for day visitors/volunteers to come and support the conservation work on the reserve? You have a stunning part of the world that I’m sure many would love to help nourish. No need for that activity to impact guests as the resort is so large. - minor point, but we did tire slightly of the mowing / trimming being done right by the main homestead during either breakfast or lunch. This happened two or three times. On one occasion one of the restaurant staff rightly asked the gardeners to stop as it was so noisy he guests could hardly have a conversation…. I’m sure this a super easy fix in terms of schedules, but respect that you want to keep the place well manicured. - another minor point, room cleaning was generally flawless, but just on one night we ate at 6.30pm got back to the villa at about 8.30pm and turn down service hadn’t been done… no issue, we were fine with it. The next morning we had a note outside to say they had tried to come and clean about 9.15pm. I’m sure you usually try to time turn down with guests dinner reservation times as every other night it was flawless - entertainment options in the room…. Perhaps time for a small upgrade? E.g. allowing guests to be able to log in to their own Netflix / Apple TV / other streaming options for entertainment? Nice to see a good list of movies in your system though. Overall, and despite us having a number of items of feedback above, we THOROUGHLY enjoyed our stay and really hope to be back again. Our challenge is always adapting back to “real life” after a stay as we do miss it so much afterwards. Thanks to the whole team at Wolgan Valley once again for a wonderful stay. We loved our stay and felt extremely relaxed during our stay. The staff were exceptional. We loved the activities and enjoyed the food at both restaurants. The rooms are cosy and comfortable and we loved the turndown service. We'll definitely be back.
Couldn't have celebrated my birthday with any more style, luxury or more beautiful nature. THe food was excellent and featured some of the best meals I've had. Everything is carefully thought out. And the design of the architecture and the property is refined. A superb experience.
We stayed in the One Bedroom Heritage Villa. The pool was perfectly warm 24/7 with pool towels. There were 2 in room services per day, the cleaning\restocking the bar fridge and a turn down service. The turn down service was amazing, they would put on the fireplace, some music from the TV, slippers and make the bed ready for bed. I've never experienced this before! Every staff member was so warm and friendly and greeted all of us by name. Opened doors for us, gave us blankets at the lunch table if it was a bit cool and even asked if we wanted take away coffees if we were too full after lunch for one! The little bus that took us to the stables tour had blankets and mini hot water bottles for every seat. The tennis courts had bottles of still and sparkling water. So many added touches that made everything absolutely perfect. If we were too tired or it was too cold to walk back or to anything, they would drop us off or pick us up with their buggies. My daughter loved that! From the moment of arrival to the minute of departure, we felt like royalty. This is the best by far that I have every stayed at. The only minor change I would suggest is to include the horse riding as part of the package.…
We had the most magical weekend away with our kids. There was activities for them to partake in and the property was breathtaking. Sitting in front of the open fire with a glass of wine and spectacular food was so indulgent. From the nocturnal night tour to horse riding, to tennis and bike riding, it was the perfect weekend of activity and luxury. We will definitely be back!
The location and staff are still top notch. The villa and bed still very comfortable. However, on our 6th visit to the resort we noticed others could be better. Spa bath is not working. Steam room is not working. A lunch sharing menu or any sharing menu has no place in a 5 star luxury resort unless it’s in a yumcha or tapas bar setting. One of the things that we enjoy at the resort are the inclusive wines on the menu. We noticed that the quality and selection has deteriorated starting on our 4th visit to the resort. The selection was so much better under Emirates management. The previous 5 course dinner menu and 3 course lunch menu was so much better than the current menu. The meat that was served is far from tender.
My wife and I recently spent 3 nights in a Heritage Kig Villa and had the most amazing time. My wife and I have visited a few if the Luxury Lodges and it is inevitable that I find myself comparing our experience with other places we have visited such as Lizard Island, Spicers Peak Lodge and the Lake house, and in this respect it falls just short of each of these lodges however it is barely even a half a mark away from these and any said blemishes are very small. After a pleasant 3 hour drive from Sydney we arrived at the entrance to the property ( a few kilometres from the main lodge ) to be told that normally someone would park our car however the person at the front gate didn't have his driver's licence so couldn't. I mean this is a rather small point of note but why would you even mention it, and even why would you put a porter at the front gate offering this service but then couldn't park your car. In any case we were warmly welcomed with a drink and did not have to wait very long for our transfer to arrive. We were taken to the main lodge and invited to have lunch. Check In was seamless and by the end of lunch service our room was ready. We were escorted down to our room and given a quick room tour. The rooms are one thing that does outshine most of the other lodges. They are simply superb. Large four poster king bed, dual fire place that faces both the large living room and bedroom. Huge walk in wardrobe to store your belongings sits beside the large walk through ( from one side too the other) bathroom that includes a huge rain shower with sun roof and large bath tub. Ammenities were by IKOU. The large verandah with rocking chairs is a nice touch, and so is the heated swimming pool that is attached to the villa. In room bar fridge stocked with non alcoholic drinks and snacks were re stocked daily. The main lodge is just spectacular and the bar perfectly placed next to a large fire place and with stunning views of the property and surrounding vista. All meals are included and we found the food very good but not spectacular. Again I am comparing against the other luxury lodges. The main restaurant suffered from a lack of experience by some staff , but this was relatively minor. The same applied to the lunch venue where on our first day we asked where the toilets were and we were told by the person we had asked they actually didn't know where they were. In saying this however, we also experieiced some good service and generally our requests were all met including the times we couldnt fit in dessert and asked it to be sent to our rooms 30 mins or so later. The main criticisim I would make though is the fact that the menus didnt really change significantly while we were there. Perhaps there was one dish at lunch and another at dinner that was different; my wife and I love sharing things at dinner to ensure we try everything but by the third night we were reloading on what we had the first night. And my biggest gripe is the chips! Hot chips for lunch, hot chips for dinner every day!! I for one love my hot chips, but how hard is it to change it up and have some other sort of carbohydrates as an option every other night? These issues however were minor and the matching wines and cocktail list truly first class and I liked the fact that wines were mainly local / from NSW. I thought Breakfast was excellent with both a buffet and Al la cate options. You could of easily had enough food simply from the buffet without even touching the a la carte options which also by the way did not change at all during our stay. Daily and freshly squeezed juices were also a nice touch. all included was also room service, and again this was excellent with some options the same as in the restaurant. Technically you could est dinner then order room service so it was great to have that option and flexibility especially when wanting a snack. The field and actitivities staff were all very friendly and knowledgeable. We loved our romantic pincinc where we were taken to a secluded spot with picnic hamper in hand. We also enjoyed our visit to the horse stables, the stargazing tour, as well as the sundowner tour which included wines, drinks, and cheese, as well as the nocturnal tour. Both the sundowner and nocturnal tours are extras but actually reasonably priced. We enjoyed a couples massge which of course never went lon enough but was truly mesmerising although naturally very expensive. All in all would truly recommend for a special time away, and we would love to return one day. The vista and surrounds are just amazing! The wildlife is right at your door step and the mountain range truly spectacular. Definitely 2 nights not enough to experience it all so book at least 3 nights. While I cant bring myself to give it 5 stars simply in comparison to some of the other luxury lodges it goes very close. Perhaps a 4.8!!!! Will definitely love to return one day. …
This place is absolutely amazing. The service was exceptional as you would expect from a 6 star resort. There is actually nothing i can fault these guys on - the whole experience was just perfect! We will definitely be returning!
I love this resort but we went away for a weekend of massage and spa treatments and could not get a single booking. We spoke to other guests who had multiple bookings and for a 6 star resort this is not good enough. We will go back but this needs to be much better
