This is our third trip to Panama. Each time we explored different resorts (see some of my previous reviews). This is by far the best resort experience we had in Panama! Yes you will have to dig a bit deeper in your wallet to stay here but it’s definitely worth it. The resort is very well maintained and service was superb. This is not an all inclusive resort, recommend to get the breakfast included as the selection is good and quality of food is excellent. They’re are several restaurant options for lunch and dinner that are reasonably priced (not top notch but better than standard hotel food). There are several pool areas and the way seating is arranged you almost have a private pool. Even on the weekend the resort and pool area were not packed so pliantly of privacy and tranquility. The rooms are well maintained and include a large bath and large shower ( we had an ocean facing room). We stayed with our child who also enjoyed the kids club.
This is a relatively quite resort so not much parties or nightlife (was perfect for us).
Highly recommended.

Overall we had a wonderful stay! We checked in through the Marriott app the day before we arrived. To my surprise I received a text at 11 AM while still in Miami that my room was ready!

Buenaventura is a 2 hour drive from Panama City but it was an easy drive. It was more convenient and cheaper to rent a car so we did. We arrived at about 11PM and the front desk agent was really pleasant and took our bags up to our room promptly after check-in. Luckily breakfast was included in our rate so we ate from the breakfast buffet three times. The selection was always the same but adequate (omelet station, pastries, assortment of bread, fruit, cheese, ham , local frituras, cereal, yogurt, etc.).

The hotel and it’s grounds were beautiful! It was all open and despite being the summer is was surprisingly really breezy! The pools were refreshing and really nice. We actually preferred the pool closest to our hotel rather then the one at el Faro because it was empty...despite the hotel bien go sold out we always had the hotel pool and Cabanas to ourselves because guests always wanted to be at the Pool/beach location which was about a 10 minute walk from the hotel rooms (houses were closer to el Faro). Pool bar had a great variety of drinks and food and surpassingly was really cheap compared to other similar Marriott pool bars.

Internet was as good as expected although my room was very close to the lobby in #140 so maybe that is why but even at the pool it was good enough for browsing the internet.

Rooms and bathrooms were spacious, clean and beds were very comfortable! The balcony view looking out to the resort was nice although we were right above the restaurant and had some bachelor party group that was loud until about 1AM the day we checked in which was kind of annoying but all other nights it was quiet. The one thing I didn’t like about the room was the humidity smell that hits you when you walk in. After a while you get used to it so it was tolerable.

Shuttle service around the Buenaventura grounds was awesome!! We were there for a wedding and the shuttle service operated until 2PM taking us to and from hotel to Martini Beach. We also used the shuttle to take us to Punta Arenas Beach Club which is another huge pool with beach access in Buenaventura. It isn’t a part of the hotel but hotel guests (and residents of Buenaventura) do have access to it. Valet parking is free but you won’t use your car much when on site.

We've been to this hotel several times before. They have a promotion after being closed for several months due to Panama's harsh and bizarre quarantine laws that practically killed the tourist season.
Room's Director, Ricardo Diaz is a gem of a person. Took care to reply by Whatsapp and arranged 3 premier rooms due to my Bonvoy Status. We felt privileged there.
The hotel was seeing its first full house of the year due to Carnival week, but all the staff was working to make sure service was prompt.
Our breakfast was included but it is not a top-quality breakfast to command a price of $28. It was rather basic. Don't remember if it was better before Covid but needs improving.
Tai Kai was excellent and the outdoor seating area was very pleasant this time of year.
Beach area drinks and snacks were brought promptly and were Ok.
The spa was offering limited service and they made me keep my mask on during the massage. I was allowed to use the wet areas alone for a half-hour after the massage.
They loan bicycles for guests but I think they only had 2 working bikes and every time we tried to get 2 together, there was only 1 available, and my wife rode by herself.
The rooms show signs of aging but all things worked well in our rooms. I saw some nearby rooms with technicians repairing the air conditioners. The hotel should get a renovation next year because it is a rather small hotel with 118 rooms and it could be upgraded to be the undisputed best in Panama. The staff is well trained and work hard to give good service. I recommend staying in this resort during Panama's dry season from late December to mid-April.

My husband and a couple friends just arrived home from an incredible week at this hotel. We had an almost all inclusive package and we are quite sure we received full value from this. The food was outstanding, to the point where we all need to diet now that we are home. They offered many gluten free options including bread, pasta and soy sauce. House wines are a Malbec and Chardonnay from Argentina (both lovely) and Matua Sauvignon Blanc. No complaints here. The golf course is in perfect condition, just make sure to book your tee times before arriving. Yes, a lot of the staff speak limited English - remember you are in Central America and they speak Spanish. Learn a few key words and you will make out just fine.

Only complaint is there are were a TON of kids, who’s parents didn’t much care of they were bugging anyone with their splashing and yelling.

Take the time to visit Panama City. We toured the canal, old city and fed some monkeys!

We will be back for sure.

Paid 200$ for a night which by no definition is a cheap stay in Panama, the room was very deteriorated, counter tops were stained by cups, breakfast was included but again very poor in flavour, if you want to use any of the pools better be up by 6am or send someone to save you one by throwing a towel on the chairs (this happens in both pools and at the beach), if you happen to get there by 8 you’ll find a sea of empty spots with towels on. Overall it was not worth it, most enjoyable part of our trip was the company and the sushi rest. Dont believe the hype or rent an apartment.

Property is great. Rooms are a bit old fashion but the general feel of the property is beautiful. It was extremely slow when I was there so the ambience was dull. Asian restaurant is overpriced for quality - quality of fish was quite poor. Staff was excellent all around.

Its in a fantastic area for a long run if you enjoy stepping out and get some fresh air. Also safe.

Shower temperature was impossible to regulate and flow very low. But the most frustrating part of the stay is the WIFI. Major issue of access point management. As you move around the property you need to constantly reconnect from one to another. Not acceptable in 2020.

Would stay again as there is little competition for this property in the area but still room for improvement.

This place is an amazing place to stay! We were welcomed warmly and manager came out to greet us personally (I am Ambassador level). I got a suite as I wanted to enhance experience (didnt wait for comp upgrade etc) and it was a beautiful room. We noticed some leaking by bath tub and called maintenance and they come up. We left to the beach. . . .

In the middle of the day, an attendant found us (it shows their level of customer service as they found us) and he stated I needed to come immediately to room. My worst fears were realized.. .the pipe broke and got our clothes wet (not everything but most). The manager was there and apologized profusely. They took our clothes and said they would wash and dry them. My wife's fav espadrilles were wet and of all the things that got wet those were the items I felt would not be "fixed" The manager assured me that they would make things right. I went to go talk to my wife and gave her the bad news. She took it in stride and we just continued to enjoy our tine by beach.

When we came in the staff had moved us to a "casita" which is a wonderful upgrade and our clothes and items had been moved in and were nicely washed and pressed. Everything looked great. A short time later someone came in with my sport coat and my wife's shoes and they were immaculate! Wow what a top notch place. Then they comped us some items or gave us a credit I cant remember as we stayed there in March. We had talked to Ricardo Diaz Rooms Manager and Victor Concepcion Peren Gerente General. Both were spectacular!

The restaurants in this gated community were also amazing. Breakfast and dinner were great and grounds are immaculate. The beach and pool areas are wonderful. This place is a gem!

We will come back no doubt and recommend highly as this is one of best places in Panama and in general compares to top notch places in world. Service is what sets them apart! and there was no one here! We felt we had the place to ourselves. Yes you can go to Hawaii or Costa Rica but those places are overrun with no place to enjoy quiet or beach. My wife and I will come back here no doubt and highly recommend!

After all the great reviews, we were disappointed after our weekend stay. Check in was not particularly friendly and English was poor. After a long drive from Panama City we were looking forward to a relaxing drink but we couldn’t sit in the bar because it was too busy so we had to sit at a table quite far away so the waiters couldn’t see us (and more importantly, take our order!). There was also no fans in our part of the patio so we didn’t even last 1 drink and we had to go back to the room. Food overall had limited choice and not 5*. Breakfast was very under par. Room needed a face lift (see picture). Although the hotel is dog friendly, the people aren’t - no bowls of water in 30+ degree heat for them (they gave us paper cups which we had to help them drink from and the charge is $100 per dog to stay). Check out was equally painful and 1 month later, they’re still holding an amount on my card. The grounds are beautiful and well kept but overall, you’re just paying to be seen there. The only people who were friendly were the valet guys.

I know Marriott is trying to expand their footprint, but buy quality hotels rather than trying to be in every market in the world. Locally this may be a good hotel, but to Marriott worldwide standard this is a bottom level Select level hotel by service standards. The Buenaventura suite is disappointing to the pictures. Large in size but the furnishings are basic. The bed is lot a typical luxury grade at this level and transfers motion for people who toss & turn. Bathroom is large, but shower nozzles are clogged and not fully functional. Maintenance on the room has been lacking and the heavy curtains hung on a regular rod are too heavy to slide and keep falling off. Thermostat resets when you leave the room to a warmer temperature. But that offsets the lack of warm water for showers. It's nice in the afternoon after being in the sun, but annoying when waking up.
Room service and housekeeping are also lacking. Just to get a bucket of ice too over an hour in the off season. Housekeeping at a luxury resort is only done if you call the desk to request it for a 6 day stay. And things were lightly cleaned. For the ice requested we also had to ask for the dirty smudged drinking glasses to be replaced. This caused an issue with the maid and we just got more dirty glasses. There's a small market on grounds that is well stocked and we suggest getting any food or drink ware for the room from there.
About the resort itself you will find it is a very family oriented facility with loud young kids throughout the areas and all pools. The grounds are nice and well maintained. Except for some trash floating in the ponds. The pools are nice if you go early or late to avoid the families.
The majority of the restaurants are average food. We had breakfasts, lunches, and dinners there. Screaming kids are a theme again at breakfast. The staff is slow, but eventual, to get you a coffee or a cocktail at the pool. It's a buffet so you can get what you want. The Criollo is boring average food, Tagua was good tapas and a solid bartender, Cacao bartender didn't know what an Old Fashioned was, Palapa bar had good attentive staff, Tai Kai Sushi was also very good with attentive staff. We ate at the beach pool and the food that came from El Faro was just ok. We had dinner reservations one night and they cancelled them 5 hours before dinner with no reason. It motivated us to go into Panama City to Makoto lucky for us. We stayed at the Sortis in the city for a couple nights even thought we already paid for the disappointing Buenaventura.
Our advice is if you want beach, go to another of the resorts at one of the larger beach destinations in Panama.

The hotel is part of an expansive resort community with a Jack Nicklaus golf course. Beautifully sited and laid out fronting a gorgeous beach and a series of small lakes and lagoons. The hotel itself is like a grand hacienda. The room was very well decorated and comfortable. Several restaurants provide a variety of choices; breakfast included was a lovely buffet. Stunning pools with cabana-like sitting areas are clustered around seral pools that lead all the way to the beach. Some chairs on the goreous light gray sand; walkable and swimmable beach. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Small gym, lots of great walking & jogging trails. We loved it so much we ended up extending our stay for another week!

So I’ve been doing some digging into this as well. We haven’t gone there yet but very interested. I’ve sent emails to the resort and reached out to some previous guests. So far I’ve found out it’s basically all-inclusive except the lobster and fancy steak dinners and fancy specialty drinks. Those excluded seem to be menu items that exceed $30. Some guests say they paid $10 upgrade to get those meals. No biggie. This sounds reasonable since many other all inclusive resorts charge extra for lobster. You get regular bar mix drinks and they use their standard brands. I checked out the bar list and it’s quite good even their low end stuff. Their house wine you get is around $20 a bottle at the LCBO. Not bad! They limit the specialty cocktails so you would have to pay for those but how many would you actually drink of the sweet drinks anyways….they didn’t look expensive. Buffet breakfast is included plus there are 3 menu lunch/dinner restaurant choices and their menus look good. All have the choice of indoor dining or outdoor patios which is nice. Just google Buenaventura Resort Panama menus. We’ve been to another resort Camino Real in Huatulco and it was the same set up. I find resorts that have part all inclusive guests and part paying customers for food and beverage in general are better quality. Like the kind of real drink you’d get if you went off resort. Also, I found out you don’t have to pay extra to use their private cabana shaded areas around their pools. Unless you’re paying preferred or VIP or extra $ most resorts don’t offer these for free. This is a big bonus for us. Hope this help. If you do end up going before us….come back and answer some questions since it seems not many people answer questions on here. I know many guests don’t speak English so that may be the issue with a lack of response to questions.
