Barcelo Coconut Island is often celebrated for its friendly staff and a range of amenities, including boat transfers and dining options, which delight many guests. However, travelers have expressed concerns regarding the value for money, citing overpriced services and dissatisfaction with their stay's cost.
While the resort's location and setting earn praise, the noise from ongoing construction and issues with maintenance and room quality dampen the experience for some. Despite mixed reviews on cleanliness and atmosphere, the resort offers both serene and lively environments.

Our second time back to this beautiful hotel in as many years. It’s recently been rebranded Barceló but the feel and friendliness of “the village “ as it formally was, remains. It’s quite a unique set up on a small island off the mainland. Boat Transfers are regular and dependable. The staff are incredible. The rooms are great and the food is some of the best I’ve had anywhere. Some of the bad reviews on here of this place are just incomprehensible. I wonder if they actually stayed here at all. The house keeping can be a bit hit and miss, especially if you leave your room later in the day and give them less chance to clean it but a quick call to reception remedies any problems. It was wonderful to see lots of familiar faces in the staff the second year around. Most notable in our experience were Mau in the Kucina restaurant. Minnie in Kabang and Non at the beach bar. Great English. Always a smile. Great service. A credit to the company. Also Ted and Ron on the activities team and Hasan at front of house. The new Laku beach restaurant they were building last year left us somewhat underwhelmed. Menu was a bit fussy and the design and comfort of the place didn’t hit the spot with us. Again though, excellent service. It’s true there is maintenance going on around the property but the workers are so respectful and don’t make any noise unless absolutely necessary. Garden staff work all year around trimming and sweeping. (You are staying on a fast growing jungle island after all) We decided to try bed a breakfast this year as we were a bit more confident about getting out and about. Our gamble certainly paid off. We visited the old town on the mainland and also ate a lot at the cheap and delicious Coconut Seafood just down the beach where you can also get an excellent massage very cheaply. We took the hotel push bikes out a few times and explored. Got a Tuk Tuk taxi to the other side of the island and spent a few mornings at Zcoco private beach. All in all a fantastic second trip.
Thankyou Barcelo.

Simply a massive treat , could not fault the place , staff , facilities , food , drinks etc just the most relaxing and chilled out place we have been to ! Forget the moaners dropping negative reviews come knowing that the staff are here to make you welcome and care that you get what you need . It’s a very international resort with folks from all over the world , makes a good relaxed vibe . We stayed AI and do not regret at all 3 resents to chose from and pick off al la carte menus , no need to book unless you wish , there are buffet evenings if you prefer but free to chose . Any items not AI like steaks are great value and quality at 50% off menu price . Drinks plenty choice and named brands … beer on tap or bottled your choice! 3 pools , adult only , family and quiet pool up top by stairs to reception ( only 12 sunbeds so rise early to get a towel down! ) sunbeds a plenty elsewhere … some people have moaned about sea , island sits on river estuary meeting sea so it mixes up and is not clearest but still fine … they have cleaners out on beach every day sweeping and tidying . Cleanliness is Excellant ! Rooms cleaned everyday , fresh pool towels in room and extra available by bottom pool ( no deposit just available ) On AI mini bar restocked everyday , beers , Smirnoff ice , Kit Kat ! OJ …. Also you get mini Pringles and nuts …. The trips they arrange run well and smoothly whilst a little more than other providers they sort everything and remove the hassle etc we enjoyed , elephant sanctuary , James Bond island and night market . The boats run frequently to mainland around 8 min journey time and full timetable given out , book in advance to ensure seat …. Taxis usually available on landing mainland if needed. In terms island not too much to see , they organise a little walking tour we did … 900 folk live on island … We enjoyed and would happily recommend it’s a place to relax , chill out not a party spot but know what you want !

We stayed 2 weeks with a 15 month old in a jacuzzi suite.
Pros
Excellent hospitality from the staff - special shout out to Hasan Zaki and to the amazing staff at the restaurants who really helped us to feel accommodated with a baby.
All inclusive choices of food and drink. Each restaurant has its own variety of foods which kept things different.
The atmosphere and scenery. The resort is well maintained and being on a secluded island gave it a unique vibe. Nice nearby islands with white sand beaches and also can explore the village.
The jacuzzi was also a big plus and felt very private how it was placed in the garden.
Childrens playroom is great to keep any child busy.
Cons
A big con for me personally was not having a separate private bathroom the room and bathroom are open plan so be prepared for that.
Rare power outage. This happened on the 2nd day during the afternoon and lasted till the evening. Once resolved it didn't occur again. We also had one day where the jacuzzi wasn't working this was resolved the next day.
The water taxi to and from the island is a tedious process and if one is full it is already a half an hour plus wait to get on the next one during busy times. And pray to god it isn't low tide or you will be transported to another pier. This I usually wouldn't mind but with a pushchair and baby can become a nightmare. The staff make it as easy as possible though as they help take things on and off the boat.
Overall
If you're planning on staying on the resort mostly and arranging excursions from the hotel pier I can highly recommend The Village Barcelo in Coconut Island for you and your family. I would definitely go again with more family members.

Just came back. A very nice island but a bit of a let down when it comes to Attention to Detail.... THE BAD POINTS... When we arrived the first thing we had to do was download there app on your phone, because this is how they informed you of the activity's. So tuff luck if you wanted a phone free holiday. We were shown to our villa, with a broken blind. At first glance all very good but on closer inspection it could do with a bloody good scrub and a good coat of paint. This complex is on a hill not good if you are disabled, having trouble to walk, short of breath. Uneven decking with screws sticking out, not cleaver if walking barefoot or with children. Could do with a buggy service to help people to there rooms from the beach or restaurant. The Boat service from the Island to Phuket you have to book up 2 hours before so no spur of the moment trips. If All-inclusive you are limited to what you get to eat, without paying extra. Some nights you were waiting 30 minutes for the food to be replaced people waiting with plate in hand. Dirty washing bags left outside you room all night waiting to be picked up, A plate was left outside on a post for two days. A couple of dogs wandering around one with a very matted coat ( Who looks after him?) A very heavily pregnant cat was walking about the grounds (who looks after her?)Chipped crockery not a good image. In the time that we were there, we were only served 3 times with drinks on the beach, but if you were by the pool it was every 15 minutes or there about. THE GOOD POINTS Lots of food to choose from when its there, Very good trips. We went to Phi Phi Island with our guide Ron.... Fantastic well worth it. Some good entrainment of a night, The bar staff were brilliant always willing to talk and have a conversation with you. The beach is well kept with cleaners up and down all day. Breakfast was a very good selection of food no matter what nationality you were. Found that 13 nights was too long for me, maybe 5 days is enough. Found a great bar along the foreshore called Coconut seafood, very nice and reasonable, worth the visit. Would i go back there YES. Management, remember its the waiters and waitresses that meet the guests that make the customers holiday, not the ones sitting at the front desk.

Dear Trigger, thank you very much for your review and feedback, which is very much appreciated. We do not oblige our guests to download the app to get information during their holidays. Guests can also just consult our notice board if they do not wish to use the phone during their stay. A golf buggy service is available throughout the resort to shuttle guests to and from the restaurants and beach and we regret to hear that you did not seem to notice this. We are currently in the process of renovating our rooms and apologize that we were not able to accommodate you in a renovated room during this busy period. Once again, we are sorry to hear that certain aspects of our facilities and services did not meet your expectations and shall seek to improve this as soon as possible. Kind regards, Urs Aebi - General Manager

Hotel complex is old, water already turned off before checkout. Dirty curtains, sofa, bathrooms etc.. especially expensive food. You even get deducted if you order via app and get a more expensive bill than on the app. Breakfast is also macabre. Not much choice. You can also only eat here in the restaurants on site, a big disadvantage because it is very expensive. It's not cleaned properly everywhere are dirty stains. The whole complex should be renewed next to it the houses ten departed from pool is cold because not even sun comes you can not use you are kicked out of the app before. Even before you checked out, you can't even complain that the water has already been turned off even though you are still in the room. The toilets are very unhygienic, you don't feel comfortable.

We spent a wonderful 3 nights here. The resort is so easy to get to and right from the start when you are checked in at the private boat transfer building the staff welcome you with efficiency and a smile. We did pay to upgrade to a pool villa for the 2nd and 3rd night, but felt this was worth the extra payment The pool villa room was large and well decorated the bathroom was also big with huge shower and oval stand alone bath. The breakfast was adequate - however it was the same everyday but you have lots of choice. It could be a challenge to get a beach lounger on the beach which was also near the pool. This did not bother us as we walked down the quieter end of the beach where there were loungers away from the busy area. Cocktails at happy hour - (2 hours!) were great. Wine was quite expensive but it is anywhere in Phuket for a decent glass/bottle. The hotel is also conveniently situated to get a long tail boat over to the floating sea food restaurants Which we did. You need cash for the long tail and also cash for your meal if your bill is under 3,000 thai baht. We had a delicious fish lunch here So all in all we would definitely return and do recommend it. The resort was having some landscaping upgrades done which it did need, I’m sure this will have been completed by the time we return

Beautiful island escape, amazing food and drinks. All staff were incredible, gardeners, housekeepers, service staff. Mark and Kyle made sure we always had a drink in our hands and were so much fun! Janice, Honey, Lacy, just to name a few, were at the incredible restaurants and always made us feel welcome! Ted was at the activities desk and led water aerobics, and anyone who can get us to do anything fit and healthy is a miracle worker! All of the staff were incredibly helpful and kind, we had such a relaxing time and will definitely go back! The pools were pristine and beautiful, at the adult only (15+) pool they had the option of serving your drink in a very luxe (NOT sarcastic) plastic wine glass so you can drink in the pool!! All inclusive is definitely worth it, although it doesn’t extend to cold milk with your free coffee in the rooms, which to us Aussies was a little odd but overall worth the money!! Three aircons in the two bedroom villa, so we got to return to brilliant icy cold rooms after a hot steamy day in the beautiful pools and beaches! Food was also amazing, so many different options and buffet breakfast included in everyone’s stay! Overall, we had an incredible time. Everything was beautiful and we felt so special and looked after. Cannot recommend enough!

I have toyed between 3 or 4 stars… we had a great time here and the hotel is lovely in an amazing spot with fabulous staff. However we did have some issues, our original pool villa room was pretty grim, curtains hanging off rails, faulty air conditioning, ripped sofas etc but when we complained Bell the guest services manager moved us to an updated villa which was lovely. We also experienced other issues we had to chase up such as missing towels and water, rubbish not being emptied outside our villa, meals not turning up in the restaurant etc etc staff always sorted any problems out but for 5 star you shouldn’t need to report such minor problems. I would also have liked to have seen the beach cleaned and combed as it’s a bit grubby and the hotel gym was pretty old and tired with rusty equipment and was very small. My other complaint was regarding the beach bag that was in our villa, there was no note/sign on it to say that you had to leave it behind so I took it as my hand luggage on the last day - we were then charged 1500thb which felt pretty steep! The hotel was going through renovations whilst we were there but this didn’t bother us but it would have been nice to have had the slides working and not had reception in a temporary restaurant setting. The beach bar was a favourite with its music and adults only pool (although we noticed a few younger kids sneaking in which was annoying) it had a great vibe to it. We had great service from a number of staff, Mac, Kyle, Aleen, Minny and Lester all couldn’t do enough for us. The Thai massage along the beach was amazing and a fraction of the cost of a massage in the hotel. Overall we had a great time here during our stay and as I say staff were responsive but it was a shame minor problems weren’t picked up.

Dear Hannah, Thank you very much for your reviews and comments. Our resort is currently undergoing some upgrading work and renovations and we are aware of some of the issues. Our team is working tirelessly to resolve this as soon as possible. Items in our room such as linen, towels, beach bag belong to the resort and are not meant to be taken away so our team did the correct thing to charge you for the beach bag. We appreciated the quality of the hotel's services both the rooms which are relatively spacious the daily cleaning leaves a little to be desired in the bathroom. The restaurant is very good in general but the à la carte service is very long count 2 hours for lunch. the vegetation is lush and well maintained. The beach: the sand a bit brown rather coarse the deckchairs are quite numerous and qualitative you have unlimited towels. There are tides that make access to the sea at low tide complicated because of the mud. The sea is greenish in color with a visibility of 30cm max. Overall a nice quiet hotel with good services but do not come for the sea swimming and snorkling

Rooms were quiet and couldn’t hear noise from outside. Air conditioning units worked wonders. The staff were attentive, friendly and always had a smile. Golf buggies were available to drive our young family whom couldn’t walk far to and from our room.
The kids club was amazing! Babysitting at really affordable prices and the staff Ning and Dada were wonderful with the kids.
Different pools were available for everyone and it wasn’t too busy.
Food was always top notch and presented wonderfully.
The massages at the spa were incredible and I wish I stayed there longer for more massages.
It was a pricey trip but worth the friendliness of all the staff who went above and beyond to make our stay perfect.

There is a sofa bed and you are correct the bathroom / toilet area has no door and very little privacy. PS . If you are taking children check the electric fixings ( particularly on the jacuzzi) when you arrive .Don't be afraid to complain.
Hi, the sea is not too rough. Boat trip is fine. However, at times of low tide, the resort opts to use smaller boats. The crossing is no more than 5-10mins.
There are more places to choose from in the Coconut Island area.
