This lovely boutique accommodation is located right next to the beach, with access to a private creek for swimming. Aside from the stunning location, one of the best things about this place are the owners!

Elizabeth and Selwyn are energetic, welcoming, and a wealth of knowledge. Not to mention excellent chefs! Breakfast and dinner are provided for you here, along with canapés and drinks before dinner. The food has been delicious - it makes you not be able to wait for dinner!

This lodge is also self sustainable- they grow their veggies, collect fresh eggs from their chicken, catch their whitebait in the creek, collect and filter rainwater for drinking, and even make all their own jams and marmalades. Anything not grown on site is bought from environmentally conscious, local businesses! We absolutely love this!

As travel agents we stay in a lot of properties - and this is right up there with the best. If you are in this area you are missing out if you don't stop by!

They also have a fabulous amphibious vehicle and Selwyn will take you for a spin around the property and over the creek to the beach for some fun! For free! You have to do this. They also have a two seater ocean kayak for a trip up the creek!

Just visit - and tell them Janet the travel agent sent you!! You won't regret it!

From the time we arrived, everything was just perfect: location, room with a view on the ocean, the social appetizer if you feel encline to, delicious dîner and breakfast, without speaking of the confortable bed and perfect bathroom robes and products. We even tried for the first time an amphibian quad! Unfortunately, we only could stay for a night but we enjoyed it to the fullest. Thank you Elizabeth and Selwyn

What kindness! The owners are adorable. Elisabetta is of Italian origin. As the place is secluded, and the hosts offer the possibility to dine on site (but to order no later than the day before), we chose this option. Pasta all'amatriciana, homemade of course, were like in Italy. Homemade ice cream and tiramisu, hmmmm. You eat in a small room provided for this purpose, after sharing an aperitif with the guests. It was the most friendly place of our trip, to be done again without hesitation. In addition, the house , the bedrooms, the bathroom, everything is very comfortable. Grazzie thousand!

Believe the 5 Star Reviews! This place is a little slice of heaven on the Tasman Sea near Hokitika. The location is great - only about 20 minutes to Greymouth and the Trans Alpine Train. Elizabeth and Selwyn were born to host and pamper people! We were greeted with warmth and enthusiasm - almost like they'd been waiting for us. The facility and grounds are beautiful and well maintained with a killer view of the Sea. Beds are comfortable and showers have great pressure and hot water. We dined at the Lodge both nights and enjoyed Elizabeth's perfectly prepared meals; Fish so fresh it had been swimming a few hours earlier, home made pasta with Amatriciana sauce, warm rolls, vegetables from their on site garden, finished with home made ice cream. Breakfast was cooked to order with bacon, sausage, eggs our choice, home made breads and jams. The ride in the amphibious vehicle was great fun! We enjoyed walking on the beach looking for special stones for hours. Overall this place is a perfect part of any west coast New Zealand vacation!

Elizabeth and Selwyn run a wonderful B& B - the rooms are comfortable and mostly look out onto the Tasman Sea, so sunset from the porch or from the beach nearby is beautiful. What makes this so special is their welcoming smiles, which last from morning until night, and their willingness to share any and every detail of things to do and places to see along this unique stretch of coastline. They are super people.
No review would be complete without mentioning their cooking, both dinner and breakfast. There is nothing to beat fish cooked fresh off the boat.

We had 2 nights in this beautiful B&B
We were warmly received by Selwyn and Elizabeth.
What fantastic hosts these are. They know exactly what you need to have a great holiday feeling.
We slept in a room on the garden side, overlooking the Tasman sea, what a beautiful accommodation.
Breakfast is delicious, fruit, freshly squeezed orange juice, homemade jam and bread. Every morning you are asked if you want a fried egg. The omelet was delicious!
We also had dinner for 2 nights.
Elizabeth is in the kitchen and cooks exquisitely. Everything is made by herself. A peek in the kitchen showed me how she was making fresh pasta.
Selwyn has a surprise for every newcomer, incredibly nice experience, but we won't give it away.
Two days to remember,
Really a place to completely unwind!

What a delight to arrive at the Awatuna Sunset Lodge after flying 20 hours from the US! A perfect start to our South Island tour and adventure. As an Airbnb owner I just want to say Elizabeth and Selwyn are host rock stars! The room was perfect, the view was perfect, and they have done everything possible to make a guest feel welcome and comfortable. The Argo adventure across the creek and on the beach was super fun. The drinks with canapes at sunset were complimentary and the hosts gave us great travel advise as we would have missed Hokitika Gorge which was stunning. Enjoyed the home cooked fish dinner, homemade preserves, eggs from chickens off the property, and the refreshing hot tub soak! This was our recovery stay from our long flight and we were totally refreshed after staying there. Thank you!

We were so lucky to find Awatuna Sunset Lodge we felt at home as soon as we met our hosts Elizabeth & Selwyn . Our room was delightful and the view pure magic we really should have stayed for a week ! Next time .
A lovely gesture was to invite guests for a drink and canapés and watch the sunset it was so homely .
A great meal was cooked for us for dinner and that was a bonus as we didn’t have to toss a coin to see who would drive home .
Bed was very comfortable and our showers nice and hot .
Elizabeth makes wonderful jams chutneys sauces biscuits so breakfast was delightful nothing was too much trouble .
We can’t thank our hosts enough for making our stay memorable they have created something very special and we look forward to our next visit .
Thank you both

If you are looking for some inspiration, recharge the batteries or explore the rugged coast line of the west coast, Elizabeth and Selwyn have the spot for you! Make sure you stay for two nights so you can sip your morning beverage while watching the sea dance in the morning light from the coziness of your bed!
Elizabeth’s excellent culinary skills matched by Selwyn’s service will have you transported, (for us a small Italian village)!
Thank you Elizabeth and Selwyn for you hospitality it was wonderful experience, Annie.

Returning to Awatuna Sunset Lodge is like returning home to family. Elizabeth and Selwyn are welcoming, friendly, and professional. This is my 4th stay here and my accommodation of choice on the West Coast.

Nothing beats the amazing sea views and the food is 5 star. I love the extensive garden-to-plate menu where I was able to choose a different and delicious meal each night. From chicken parmigiana, lasagne, BBQwhole snapper caught on the beach, venison to spaghetti bolognaise, Elizabeth makes everything fresh from scratch, even the pasta.

You can even walk through the gardens to see all the fresh produce growing. The food is bursting with flavour.Breakfast is a delight with her homemade bread and jams. It really is a food lovers paradise.

I highly recommend at least 2 nights stay here to enjoy all the amenities that they provide.

Book a sea view room, you won't be disappointed.
