We stayed here as for a long weekend for my fiancé’s birthday. When we arrived we were given a room upgrade. We were on the 6th floor with a veranda where we could see the Acropolis which looked beautiful at night when it was all lit up. The bed was large and comfy, the bathroom was great and the shower was a really big area. The room was very modern and during the current COVID-19 situation we found it all to be very clean. Our room wasn’t cleaned through the day but the option was there to ask for clean towels and linens should we need them. The hotel it’s self is beautiful and very stylish and quirky. The staff were very friendly and helpful and always greeted us whenever you were leaving or returning. The hotel itself is on a busy road but we never felt it a problem. We left the windows open in the veranda and closed the sliding door to our room and we didn’t hear the traffic at all. It’s slightly out of the centre but with a 15-20 min walk you can get to Acropolis and a beautiful place called Plaka, here we found some great restaurants and little gift shops. In one day we managed to visit Acropolis, Acropolis museum and Temple of Olympian Zeus. The other side of Plaka is another lovely place called Monestiraki which had some nice restaurants and a flea market. The walk from the hotel to Plaka looked run down but we loved this after all it is a very old city and adds character to the place. Lots of coffee shops on the way too. We would definitely reccomend staying at Athenaeum Grand Hotel and if ever we visit Athens again, this hotel would be our first choice. Thank you to everyone there for making our stay pleasurable. …
We had booked 18th September, a double standard room. We got what we booked, a lovely double standard room; not much of a view but decent room amenities. We flew out on the 19th September to Santorini and the kind receptionist kept our luggages. As we were checking out we mentioned we will be back again on the 21st September, but due to arriving back to Athens at 12 midnight we booked the double standard room again however we had booked the Penthouse suite for the 22nd September. We asked if we may get a complimentary upgrade as we already booked penthouse for the next morning. The receptionist said she will make a note and said if it is available then of course they wouldn't mind upgrading. It is now the 21st September (22nd midnight) - we have just landed and have come straight to the hotel. The receptionist was not welcoming at all. We had no pleasant welcoming nor did we get a welcome drink like the way we did on the 18th September. We then asked the receptionist if there was any chance of a complimentary upgrade for the penthouse, he laughed and followed through saying 'of course not, penthouse is very expensive', I replied to that, well we have it booked for tomorrow - I was asking due to ease of transition. The receptionist then went quiet. We then asked if it were available, he said to ask in the morning when we come for breakfast. He then booked us into our room and upon leaving to go to our room he asked if it were someone's birthday, I asked why, he said what the reason is for booking the penthouse, I said because we arrived at 12 midnight and wouldn't be able to use the room to its full potential. He then laughed and said we have saved money and we could now spend it on dinner. This receptionist saw us and thought we were just young adults with no money trying our luck. We judged us from the moment we walked into the hotel. My experience on the 18th is completely different to my experience today. The receptionist also booked me into the possibly worse room in the hotel. We a dirty window view of the back of some building. This room did not even have a functioning TV. I feel like this was done out of spite. I went onto hotel booking websites and saw that the penthouse as well as many other rooms were still available for the following date: 21st - 22nd September. This is further strengthening my argument that the receptionist booked us into the worst room on purpose. The room does not even come with complimentary water, bare in mind all shops are closed in Greece from 12am. We literally went to bed thirsty. DO NOT BOOK this hotel! I will update everyone on my experience tomorrow with the penthouse. But I wouldn't hold my breath…
Many thanks to everybody for the warm hospitality provided me during these 3 days that i spent in the hotel ! I felt a member of their family despite the fact that i was alone ! 5 star personalized service provided whereas everybody was willing to assist you at any time with pleasure .(Special thanks to Lambros for taking care of me in the breaskfast) The only thing that i have to mention (F&B) is that the rice with mushrooms i ordered (in room dining) was bad and the products in the morning buffet need some improvements as for the quality .
Upon arrival at the Athenaeum Grand Hotel we Immediately got a very warm welcome from the receptionist and the porter Nikos and Tryfon. That was very nice. Me and my girlfriend got some complimentary drinks, the personnel helped us carry the heavy luggage upstairs & when we got to our room we were even more stunned! It looked even better than in the pictures. The bed is so comfortable, wow. And the bathroom is super clean. 10/10 would recommend!!
