We stayed here for 2 nights, and the positives are that the pool is great. However, the sun lounges are hard plastic, so very uncomfortable. The location is fab right on the beach and a short walk into Torquay. This hotel, however, is in major need of improvement. The carpet in our room was full of staines, the furniture on the balcony was very rusty, and the bathroom looked very tired. However, the toiletries provided were lovely and smelt amazing. We also found the bed and pillows very uncomfortable, but it was cleaned on our 2 night stay and we found the maids very friendly. The check-in process also seemed very chaotic. We were passed from person to person as it feels like they are more keen to get you to join the Wyndham group scheme. Although we had a nice stay in Torquay, we would probably look at booking elsewhere when we return. With a bit of love and attention, this hotel could be amazing.

Excellent location in front of the beach, just outside the village and a half hour walk from the restaurant area. The structure is overall well maintained with a beautiful indoor and indoor heated pool. Breakfast to avoid with poor value for money. Not all the staff is up to a structure that is awarded 4 stars. Some non-minor details downgrade the overall well-being, for example in the rooms there is no ventilation system replaced by cheap and noisy old wall air conditioners.

We had a great room on the ground floor and when we opened the bedroom or sitting room floor-length sliding glass doors, you walked onto a small patio with a table and two chairs on each side. We watched the sea and sunrise whilst enjoying our bacon, eggs and toast.
We walked to the seaside and walked along the beach, enjoying the sight of the waves lapping at our feet. An added bonus was the fact that you could walk to the beautiful beautiful "Sundial of Human Involvement" and stand on the month and observe the shadow cast across the time of day. It is called the Analemmatic Sundial and is made like a mosaic. We often saw people swimming and surfing in the nearby areas.
There was a restaurant downstairs where you could order meals, as well as a gym and other facilities. Free WiFi was available only in the reception and common areas. Parking was onsite and during vacation time it may be difficult to get a parking space inside. However, there is plenty of parking space outside as well.
Our room had a full kitchen (we cooked most of our meals in-house) and a great bathroom, a washing machine and dryer and everything you needed at your fingertips. A great way to spend the New Year.

Upon arrival we straight away had to go back to reception as the room was just gross, sandy floors, crumbs on table, brown stains on all bed sheets, fly door off its hinges, glassware dirty and old dried up contact lenses left in the room. We were told the only solution was to have housecleaning come back and clean the room with no sorts of apologies given. The main bedroom has no sort of ac or fan, only the living room has ac and it was boiling hot at night. Facilities weren’t too bad, pool was nice but looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a bit as there was all sorts of rubbish floating at the bottom of the water. Shower was okay, found that it leaks under the folding glass door and spills down all over the floor

My Wife and I, Booked to stay for 1 week, what we left early because we were very disappointed and would not recommend this place. The rooms look great online but what you will get is disgusting, it was that bad my wife and I went up to the reception and showed them the photos what we had taken the nice lady at reception moved as to another room what was a little bit better, but not much. This place does not change towels, make your bed, or provide toilet paper. It is up to you to go up to reception and ask for fresh towels and toilet paper as me and my wife had to do this. My wife and I decided to leave a couple of days earlier, because we just couldn’t stay here anymore. When we went to check out any more telling the lady at the reception, some of our concerns or she replied was I’m sorry to hear that, but we can’t offer you a refund. The funny thing is we never asked for a refund or just telling her our concerns what she didn’t even take any note of. With our stay we had breakfast included. I’ll recommend you never pay for this service as the variety is very little. The service is very bad honestly, the only best thing I could say about this whole experience was when me and my wife were out and doing things out of the resort.
This place has bad customer service, and the cleaning of the whole resort is disgusting and how they have a four-star rating I don't know

Thank you for your feedback. Our team certainly try and give our guests a great break away, but at times we may miss the mark. Our apologies that you didn't enjoy your stay with us. We certainly offer daily servicing of rooms, and during this service we change towels that are left on the bath, if left on the towel rail, we honour guests requests to reuse their towels. In regards to the bed, we make the bed, but only change the linen every 3rd day of your stay. Toilet paper is provided, and once the roll gets to less than 1/4 roll, it is changed. Spare rolls are in the bathroom vanity. If more towels or toilet paper is required, our team are here 24 hours to provide more at no cost. We have recently taken on some rooms into the hotel, and some of these are in need of an upgrade. Looking at your reservation I can see you were originally in one of these rooms. I have already used your feedback to discuss with the owner to have that room refurbishment moved forward. Please to read though that the team offered you a different room. Thank you again for your feedback, it is appreciated. Kind regards, Cameron

I had stayed here a few times before and was expecting the quality of the hotel to be there for our visit this time - sadly it has really gone downhill. The restaurant was closed so meals there had to be in the Winkipop cafe and bar. We had breakfast there twice and the guys working the morning shift were attentive and kept the tables cleared and cleaned. I certainly cannot say that about the girls running the cafe in the evening of 1st February. There were plenty of tables that needed cleaning and the girls were busy chatting amongst themselves rather than cleaning tables! The quality of the room left a lot to be desired. Obviously the room was for twin beds. There was a king bed but only one side table. The carpet was very dirty and stained. Shampooing the carpet hopefully would make the room seem better. On our next trip to Torquay, we WON’T be staying at Wyndham.

Thank you for your review, Looks like you are referring to the old restaurant upstairs. That restaurant is privately owned and not part of the resort management. This restaurant closed down 7 years ago, and the owner has not been able to find a tenant to take it over. We do operate a poolside casual dining cafe for guests to enjoy breakfast, have a drink by the pool, or have a casual meal. I have discussed your feedback with the 2 staff mentioned. They are normally amazing, so you must have caught them at a brief moment of lapse of attention. We are in discussions about upgrades to some of our rooms. We will certainly use your feedback for our upcoming meeting. Thank you again, and hope to welcome you back again soon. Kind regards, Cameron

Fantastic location. Just across the beach. Professional and friendly staff. Great service and value for money. It would have been even better if they provide microwave facility in the room to heat any food or drinks.

Thank you for your review, and glad you enjoyed your stay. In our rooms with kitchens (One, Two and Three Bedroom Apartments, and our Four bedroom House), we do have microwaves built into the kitchens, however it is just the studio rooms that don't have kitchens or microwaves. For these guests we do have a microwave available near Reception for heating meals etc, along with Laundry facilities if required. Hope to welcome you back again soon. Cameron

We (2 adults, 1 toddler) stayed here last night, some things to note:
Booked a resort view room (room214) - that view is of the car park entrance and neighbouring propertys yards/balconies. Not exactly what we were expecting based on the name…
You can see a bit of the beach if you sit out on the balcony but again it is majority carpark entrance. Was disappointed with this.
You can hear the roller door to the carpark going up and down every single time.
Fridge in room completely froze all items we had in there (reported to reception today when we discovered this)
The pillows are fantastic for leaning against when watching tv but to sleep on are the most uncomfortable pillows we’ve ever experienced. They are very high and solid.
On site cafe/bar is closed during winter.
Room had a shower/bath combo.
Rooms are dated.
Good little playground for toddlers in a quiet corner of the outdoor area.
If the weather were warmer we could have made use of the fantastic looking outdoor pools.
Would not pay $200+ to stay here again for a single night, it felt excessive. We have previously stayed at the local caravan park - find this a better option for toddlers and price wise value for $.

Thank you for your review, Sorry to read that you didn't enjoy your short stay with us. The outwards facing rooms are not called 'Resort View', we simply class them as "Hotel Room' or 'One Bedroom Apartment', the categories up from there are 'Pool view' and 'Ocean View'. Apologies for any confusion. We will take a look at the fridge, it is most likely the thermostat that has been set to low. Glad your toddler enjoyed the playground, and you are right, you will have to return when the weather warm to use the pool areas.

We were driving the Great Ocean Road and stayed overnight in Torquay, The Wyndham seemed one of the better places in town so we reserved a beach view suite for ourselves and 10 year old daughter. The resort is a time share and looks hugely popular with big families. There is a small modest snack bar with about 10 tables that provides basic lunch and dinner items but no breakfast is served at the resort. It's a 15+ minute walk to the closest breakfast spot; others in Torquay were much farther. We could have driven but weren't sure we could find parking. Like other places in Australia, you get a tea kettle and instant coffee packets. The room was spacious but dumpy - the sofa bed was just awful - old, squeaky, thin disgusting mattress. We could hear the neighbor next door cough every few minutes. Then at 10:00pm we got a knock on our door - it was the receptionist who needed to come into our room to adjust our thermostat because the man next door evidently shared the same thermostat. I've NEVER heard anything so ridiculous. The washer and dryer were welcome because we'd been traveling but we started the dryer when we went to dinner and it was still running when we got home 2+ hours later. The location is not easily accessible to the main food and shopping area of Torquay, it's on the outskirts but across from a nice beach.

Not sure what the bad reviews are all about on here. We had such a lovely stay - the room was really well appointed, so cosy and quiet, with a lovely partial sea view from the balcony (which we didn't ask for or realise we had - which was a real treat!) The hotel is walking distance from the town (about 25 minutes) and across the road from the beautiful beach where you can walk for miles up the coast. We ate dinner and breakfast in the town, rather than at the hotel. Staff also very friendly. Would highly recommend!

Thank you for your review and staying with us. We hear you about reviews, we certainly look after thousands of guests each year and we hear some fabulous feedback, but we understand that like anything we can't please everyone, or something doesn't go exactly to plan which can understandably frustrate some guests...although we certainly try our hardest to make everything perfect. Myself and the team listen to all feedback, and we adjust and learn and try and make changes for the better...so we appreciate all types of feedback. But we do love the good feedback such as yours from time to time, as that certainly helps me to keep the team excited and energized to continue to deliver exceptional service. Thank you again, and hope to see you back for another stay in Torquay soon. Regards, Cameron General Manager

Hi - sorry I just noticed your question. These prices seem to be very high. We did not pay anything like that but unfortunately I cannot remember who I booked it through!
It was certainly under £100 per night and worth every penny. Phone them direct and they will tell you why it is so expensive - I would also guess Easter. Lovely place to visit too.
The rates are much better booked on line but I got a great deal when I had visitors from overseas and we made a quick decision we would head down to Torquay the next day still got good rates 👍
Sorry I didn't reply earlier. We are busy planning our trip to South America. You can get a train to Geelong then a bus to Torquay . There are tours from Melbourne and can be arranged from Torquay or Geelong . The weather in September is Spring 10-25 degrees. Some rain. Great surf at Torquay and Bells beach. Regards Lyn
I usually book via Wyndham six months in advance as there are more selection on offer. But for 2 nights 3 moths is fine as there are limited rooms available. I have been going there every year and it has been a pleasant stay.
There are more places to choose from in the Torquay area.
