The Cumberland Lorne Resort garners accolades for its prime location with easy beach access and scenic views that captivate many travelers. Guests regularly commend the service for its friendliness and efficiency, though a few have encountered issues. While the resort's atmosphere and cleanliness receive high marks for their warm ambiance and meticulous upkeep, some guests suggest the rooms could benefit from modernization, particularly in lighting, and the amenities from more accessible features. Despite occasional remarks about the cost, the value is often celebrated for the combination of ocean vistas and ample room space.

After driving past this place since childhood days and never venturing inside, we finally booked a long weekend away (2 adults, 2 kids) and thought we'd give the Cumberland a try! It certainly didn't disappoint. The 1 bedroom apartment was very spacious and more than satisfied our needs. We did pay the little bit extra to get an ocean view room - it was so nice to watch the view at all times of the day. As for location, you can't really beat it. A few steps to the pub, just down the stairs to the shops and the beach just across the road. The room was clean and well kept, the gardens well maintained (nice touch to have the herb garden next to the barbecues!) and having the pool, tennis court and boogie board hire available certainly helped keep the kids enthused and active. Would happily come back.

Dear gerstraveller, We are pleased you made the decision to stay with us. Cumberland Lorne is an iconic holiday destination and an important part of the Lorne landscape. We love hearing stories like yours and hope that one day your children will be able to do the same with their children. We are excited about some changes in the future that will update the property however this will not diminish the classic Cumberland style and service we are best known for. We look forward to seeing you again in the future All the best Richard

There isn’t anything negative to say about Cumberland. We booked an apartment for one night as my husband and I are here from the UK & travelling for several weeks and we wanted laundry facilities. We were delighted with the size of our ocean view apartment it was enormous, had a lovely bathroom with a fabulous jacuzzi that had great views out to the beachfront , lovely fully equipped kitchen and a great lounge/ dining space. Everything was spotless attention to detail excellent and location for restaurants, shops and beach couldn’t have been better . We could happily have lived here and wished our itinerary had allowed a longer stay.
The staff on reception were very friendly , car parking was ideal for unloading our car and overall it was quiet - we had a great nights sleep. The best place we have stayed since we left Adelaide and compared to others definitely value for money.
Thanks for a great stay 😃

We paid $375 a night for a 1 bed apartment with an Ocean view. The view was great
I thought at $375 not in full season it would be a better apartment . It is back to the 80"s No evidence of much change in the interior since the 80"s
Rooms have the shower in a spa bath , who wants to climb in and out of a spa bath to shower?
Yes, I know they were "in" in the 80's
The design of hotel in our area meant that when room doors close it was like a cannon going off, some soft close would be handy
Enquired about dining and breakfast and advised to find something out in the street
I thought they could offer some breakfast supply but no, off down the street and bingo , found a bakery where we could get coffee and croisant
Unfortunately the bakery was closed for the next 3 days
Hotel is OK but greatly overpriced maybe because they can?

Dear John, Thanks for taking the time to review our property. Each of our apartments are privately owned and the decor can vary from apartment to apartment, we highly recommend our Rennie Ellis apartments in the future. There has been already a lot of work in the background with our owners corporation to redevelop parts of the property and I look forward to seeing this can to fruition in the future. Although we physically own a Resturant we are surrounded by many great options in Lorne within walking distance, we are pleased you were able to enjoy one of the locally owned businesses. Unfortunately like many regional locations staffing has been an ongoing issue and many of the small locally owned businesses need to close to rest what staff they do have, the shire is looking at ways to offer more affordable accomodation to the region so that more people can live and work in Lorne. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Warmest Regards Richard Blackley General Manager

Not good and not recommended.
The whole property is very rundown and in urgent need of refurbishment. Complete painting, upgrading bathrooms, toilet and general presentation. Finishes are old shabby and grubby. The sunken shower in a spa is difficult to access for some and is slippery. To reach the toiletries you are required to walk across a slippery and sloped base to use. This shower aspect should be highlighted to every guest when the booking is being made. Almost impossible to enter and exit the shower safely. In fact it is very dangerous despite a handle to hold on the wall. These showers should be removed without any delay and replaced with walk in showers. Completely unacceptable. Window in bedroom faces walkway from lift and from stairs. It is noisy, hearing people walking, talking and slamming doors. The window allows light into the bedroom all night and if the blind is up, it is easy to see into the room from outside. Requires replacement window covering such as a shutter to prevent light and allow some privacy. Lift was filthy and floor covering requires replacement. For the cost of well over $400 per night in the off season, the room did not provide the room facilities that is expected for such a high tariff. Certainly not even 4 star. 3 star in our opinion. The balcony is dirty and uninviting. Not the place to sit and admire the view of the beach. Furniture requires replacement with such more in line with price expectation of the owners. It is time management sat up and took notice.

Dear 30victoriaavenue, Thank you for taking the time to review the property and we appreciate your feedback. The property is under an Owners Corporation and we have been working with them on a masterplan for upgrades to the property. This process is long and sometimes complex, we completely agree that the buildings require painting and upgrading to the common property of the Resort. There are also talks in progress on works to be conducted on apartment internals, each apartment is privately owned and a general concensus needs to be reached first, We are pleased you enjoyed the location and the service provided by the team and look forward to welcoming you back in the future. We booked a room for 3 Adults for 5 nights but had to leave after 4 nights due to an old uncomfortable sofa bed with a dilapidated mattress that ruined our stay. We forfeited a night accomodation as no one could sleep on that last century sofa bed after two of us suffered severe back issues. We were under the impression the hotel had been refurbished but that turned out to be just paint , same old furnishings from last stay years ago. On lodging a complaint at reception on why we were leaving early and forfeiting $400, we barely got an acknowledgment, rather a short and clinical “ will pass this onto duty manager”, couldn’t even muster an apology or express any empathy. As we prepaid I didn’t expect a refund but a simple apology from hotel still using substandard sofa bedding. I pointed out that the RACV resort we stayed at Christmas has state of the art sofa bed with a full trundle and very comfortable mattress. Thats was a true 4.5 star hotel.

Very disappointing experience indeed.

Dear miket206, We are truly sorry to hear of your expereince with us on this occasion. Its unfortunate that we were not provided the opportunity during your stay to rectify any issues you experienced as we could of provided alternative options to make your stay more comfortable. I can recommend in the future our 2 bedroom Apartments as it comfortably sleeps 4 Adults in traditional bedding, alternatively we also have roll away beds as replacement options for sofa beds. Our owners corporation are about to release a masterplan to all our individual owners on a large scale upgrade to the property for the future development of The Cumberland, we look forward to welcoming this soon. Take care Richard Blackley General Manager

Good location and very pleasant reception staff. Unfortunately the apartment left much to be desired, needs repair and maintenance and as such we felt this accommodation was totally overpriced.!!
Main bedroom only had a rack to hang clothes and second bedroom had no cupboards,no bedside tables or reading lamps . It is extremely small and a peculiar shape with a very low ceiling and no ventilation.Ceiling fan was required at all times to move the air. Second bathroom is nice and the best part of the apartment is the rooftop balcony. Would definitely not stay in this apartment again.

Located in the heart of Lorne, this resort is right on the main strip in the middle if Lorne, very close to nice cafes and bang opposite the beach.
Underground parking is provided at the resort for hotel guests. The resort has a pool and a Gym, but we did not use those as most of the time in Lorne was invariably spent at the beach.
The rooms were clean and well maintained with gorgeous views of the beach from the Ocean view apartments. The resort has a lift from the Parking to the reception and the rooms. Rooms have a kitchenette good for some light cooking.
Saltair spa is right below the resort and I believe they do offer some discounts for hotel guests.
Live Wire Park is a short 5 min drive away and Erskine falls about 15-20 mins away.
We really enjoyed our stay here. Cumberland Lorne Resort would always be our first choice on our next trip to Lorne.

Booked directly with the Resort (over the phone) & was assisted patiently, pleasantly & efficiently by James.
This was a great first impression.
Upon check in we were greeted by Heath & the excellent first impressions continued!
Heath was friendly & helpful & made us feel very welcome.
We didn’t require much housekeeping, but each day we were left a note acknowledging that our privacy sign was out & to not hesitate to reach out if we needed anything.
Our one bedroom beachfront apartment was amazing. The layout allows for someone to watch the tv & not disturb their sleeping partner (bedroom & lounge area at opposite ends)
The balcony overlooking the beach is the icing on the cake.
Location is second to none.

Although the sofa and design was dated. I appreciate the small touches to upgrade and maintain the place. The bathtub with jacuzzi was a relaxing treat and the laundry and dryer were of very good quality and brands. The stay was comfortable and spoilt for choice for entertainment such as Apple TV, Netflix, Disney plus and many more. The only bad was the additional sofa was a conversion from the worn out sofa. Location was perfect with sea view facing and near to walks. Eateries at the doorstep and many cockatoos perching at your balconies!

Firstly, you can’t go past the location, you are right on the beach in Lorne and an easy walk to cafes etc. The apartment was large, but overpriced for what it was. Firstly we did not get the bed configuration we requested (twin beds), so one of us had to sleep on the couch. Secondly the bathroom is weird. If you have mobility issues the shower is NOT for you. We had to step down about 30cms into a spa bath in order to shower. This was always and slippery and not something I would walk to do when tired or if I had mobility issues. The place is in need of some maintenance too - lots of chipped paint etc. there is free parking on site, but it’s is a very tight fit down in the underground car park. If you have a large car you may struggle. Staff we encountered were friendly and helpful.

Dear BelRae, Thank you for taking the time to review our property and we are pleased that our team were friendly and helpful, we appreciate this feedback and I will pass this onto them. The Cumberland as we know know it was built in the late 1980's and is an iconic destination having been erected after the original guesthouse was opened on this site in 1950. It has history and some quirks that in today's modern age presents some challenges, like the car park with larger vehicles. This year we will focus even more on modernisation of the property and look forward to all the changes we have planned for along the way. All the best and we look forward to seeing you again in the future. Regards Richard Blackley
