We’ve just spent a week in this beautiful place.
The garden is incredible, full of birds. Great swimming-pool too.
The staff is really friendly and Aude the owner very helpful for everything you need.
The villa was beautiful, mexican style, full of colors.
Cleaning everyday.
Eva Luna is at 2mn walk from the beach where you could enjoy and practice paddle if you want, with a new beach-club to relax front of the sea.
It was the perfect place for us. We could really enjoy during a week.
Hope we’ll come back soon

My husband I were looking for accommodations in the DR that were the opposite of a big, all-inclusive resort. We wanted small, peaceful, and quiet and found it at Villa Eva Luna! Our villa had a large outdoor shaded porch with dining table, kitchen and indoor living area, bedroom and bathroom. The bungalow well appointed and attractive with much attention to detail. As others have mentioned, the owner Aude was thoroughly accommodating, making recommendations and reservations for us, and seemed genuinely interested in making sure we had an unforgettable experience. The staff were all lovely and friendly. Highly recommended!

Villa Eva Luna far exceeded any expectations had when searching for a quieter lodging option for my first trip to DR. I should have known it was going to be an amazing stay, because Aude was so helpful with me in planning ALL aspects of my trip. She suggested a wonderful hotel in Santo Domingo for our final night, hired taxis for me there and in Samana, gave us great tips on where to go in Las Terrenas and how to get there...I didn't have to worry about one thing!

The property is a true oasis in paradise. Safe and convenient to town.
We were waited on hand and foot by the polite staff.

The sign of a good vacation is not wanting to leave...and after only 4 nights, we did not want to leave Eva Luna!

Thank you, Aude, for making our first trip to DR such a pleasant one. Hope to see you again someday!

I was on vacation for 5 days on this property. Although it is quaint and has nice bungalows with plenty of room, the fact that the night before we were to leave that location back to Santo Domingo, 2 1/2 hours away, my brand new iphone 4S was stolen from my carry-on bag where I kept it the whole time. The person who stole my iphone (and charger) knew exactly where to look. I never took my phone out of its pocket in my bag. This put a damper on my experience since we trusted the maids and staff at the location. Wireless internet did not work 3 out of our 5 days there, so it was difficult to communicate with my staff at the office. We had to find an internet cafe in town. The owner basically told me it was not their problem since I did not put the phone in the safe and to check into my insurance plan. I had locked my bedroom door and have my suspicions with who it might have been and someone who had access to the room (common sense). When I corresponded with the owner, I told her that I hope it doesn't happen to anyone else and assured her that I would have to write a review so that travelers would know to beware if they decide to stay at Eva Luna. The staff is very friendly, but do not let that fool you. Do not trust anyone there.

Response from evaluna2, Owner at Eva Luna

I'm the owner of Eva Luna and i'd like to make an answer about this review .... totally unfair : During all her stay, this clients NEVER closed her villa, by day or night too. The security man and the housekeeper talked me about this problem, it was the first time a client didn't lock doors, and windows. All the villa was always opened when clients weren't there. In each villa, there is a safe, it's very strange this person didn't put her phone inside ... Eva Luna is a complex which is always close, nobody can go in the area and nobody has access in villas of course. About security, there is nothing to say, i've never received complaint about it. About internet, we had a problem during 3 days in all the area, not only at Eva Luna that's what i've explaind to this clients ... We have wifi system and it always work, it was ponctual. It's the first time we met problem like this with a client. All my guests have great and peace time in my place (cf other clients reviews), security too of course.

Eva Luna has a definite charm that feels like the Southwest in an island beach community. On first Impression, the bundalows are quaint, it's recessed and quiet and it has the possibility of being something really great.

Unfortunately, what it had in charm could not overshadow what it lacked in owner service and attentiveness. This small villa vacation experience is all about attention to detail and the owner dropped the ball in various ways.

1. Swarms of mosquitos aren't attractive when you're trying to sleep, especially when they are in every room and there is no protective nets around the bed. And, in the event the electricity goes off, like it did one night, arm yourself with a ton of bug spray, as the fan in the room will not save you from being bitten OVER AND OVER.

2. Do not ask the owner for help trying to organize anything as you will have to do it yourself or your request will not be done correctly. The one request to Aude we made of having a car ordered to take us three to two local airports in Santo Domingo repectively was botched and ended up costing us more. And to add insult to injury, we had to contend with her attitude, as if we were wrong for having indicated to her twice, two days before, of what we needed.

Word of Advice to Aude: Don't put your paying guests in an awkward position of disputing taxi charges when you comfirmed the night before that it was done. The one request we made of you was met with a cavalier attitude and you really should never promise things you can't deliver on.

We believed the small villa community would be a better fit and would provide a unique, attentive experience. Obviously we were wrong as the owner did not share that same sentiment and was the definite "Achilles' Heel" to what could potentially be a real gem.

We had a very peaceful 4 day weekend at Eva Luna but beware - when it rains, that 200 m road (? lane) seems too long to wade through to get to restaurants or beach. Most of our visit the lane was covered in water and we had some hilarious trips down it. As we were only there for a long weekend, we didn't want to carry in groceries - expecting to be able to get to restaurants easily. By the last night the lane just seemed too much trouble so we ate crackers.
Overall, the villa was gorgeous and very comfortable. The service was sporadic depending on whether it was siesta but nothing major. The staff were very friendly and more helpful than the owner. We expected a little more value for the money we spent.
To get around, we hired a cab or scooter taxi - beware again - by the time they drove us through the terrible roads or our 200 m water lane, they always insisted on being paid more than had been negotiated before setting out. One evening's lovely dinner was somewhat tarnished by the vehicle cab which detoured to pick up another couple which was very out of the way for us, but then charged both parties the same price!
If you are looking for white sand beaches, this isn't the place. We did enjoy the Mosquito bar patio looking over the water - funky atmosphere.
Would we return again? Probably not - there are many DR locations that offer better beaches - would not stay at the same accommodations. We could have spent far less at hotels that had better access to the amenities. Beautiful place but a little too remote if it is rainy and you want to get out to shop, eat or enjoy the rustic beach. The villa's pool area was great but then aren't they all in the DR?

We did not stay at the Eva Luna, but we had reserved a room for 8 days starting May 2nd. Due to an unplanned emergency, we had to cancel 24 days before May 2nd, which was 4 days more than required by the Eva Luna cancellation policy. When we notified Eva Luna of our emergency and asked them to refund our down payment of $384.00, they refused. After numerous e-mails, they said they would wire our money. Today, we received a money transfer for $212.00. These people would not return our phone calls, they hung up in the middle of a conversation, and were quite rude to us in e-mails and the one time they would speak to us on the phone. I would certainly look at other hotels before booking a room at Eva Luna.

Eva Luna is a stunningly beautiful, peaceful, and charming place to stay in Las Terrenas. The villas are well furnished and clean, the hospitality is great, and the location is almost perfect (just far enough off the beaten path to be away from the noise & bustle, but close enough to walk to the beach and restaurants.) Breakfast is included in the VERY reasonable daily rate at Eva Luna, and it is served right on your veranda. Las Terrenas has gorgeous beaches, nice restaurants & bars right on the beach, and a very cosmopolitan feel to it at times. It has a large French ex-patriot community - French is the second language for many in the touristy area. I would not recommend hiring a car unless you're getting out of town for a day trip - the roads in Las Terrenas, especially the ones leading to Eva Luna, are unbelievably bad and very rough and slow for a car. Instead of car I would rent a 4-wheel drive ATV vehicle or as we did, a scooter (don't get a scooter, however, unless you've got experience driving one! Driving a motorcycle in the DR is definitely not for the feint of heart.)

We stayed at the Villa Eva Luna for 8 days. It was a lovely retreat made even better by the warm, personal touch of the owner. The villa itself was delightful. It included a lovely bedroom, kitchen area and sitting area as well as an outside porch where they served a very nice breakfast. In our case, we had another bedroom and outside porch attached where my son and his girlfriend stayed. All details were taken care of. What really added to the stay was the owner, Aude. She not only made us dinner reservations, but helped us locate places to go, and when I had a medical issue, she helped solve the problem for me. When traveling to this area of the DR. I would definitely recommend Villa Eva Luna.

This was the perfect location for my husband, son and I to stay during our visit to DR. The villa was perfectly maintained and absolutely spotless - probably the cleanest property I've stayed in anywhere in the world. The owner, Aude, knew exactly when to offer help and when to provide privacy. She had excellent advice on places to see and where to eat. She also arranged a whale watch for us that was a once in a lifetime experience. And she's just a very nice person.

The breakfast was extensive, fresh, excellent quality and delicious. We only needed a couple of pieces of fresh mango to tie us over to dinner. (Get the smaller yellow ones!). The staff was extremely friendly and very courteous.

The location is quiet and somewhat hard to find the first time in. It's about 2/3 of the way down the side road on the right with red terracota walls and cactus plantings.

Unless you are quite active, you will want to rent a scooter or four wheeler to ride into town for dinner and shopping. There is no easy public transport or taxis in Las Terrenas. The beach is easy walking distance. It is a beautiful beach.

The safe in the room was large enough for 2 iPads, 3 iPhones, wallets, passports, Beats. There is a hair dryer in the room. The full size fridge and dishes were so nice for hanging out, snacks, evening card games.

This is well worth the money for a quiet, restful, luxurious, verdant environment. I would highly recommend it.
