Unforgettable holidays surrounded by spectacular gardens and treated by lovely staff, thank you all.
Well talk about Las Palmas Eco Residence is something like being at home but being on vacation in the Paradise of Las Terrenas in Dominican Republic.
The most we like my family and I of that complex is the good atmosphere that the employees have making the stay of the clients is to their maximum liking in every way, I could not name anyone because from the first to the last employee they have are real professionals and most importantly, better people, I only have to thank everyone, gardeners, cleaning, maintenance, reception, administration staff..... Many thanks to everyone from Heart.
A little anecdote, after being looking for more than 3 hours around town to buy a Bingo to play with the family, gives me to ask at reception and there you had it, it was something I miss but at the same time I said, waooo even Bingo have here.
I recommend this resort without fear of being wrong if you are looking for tranquility and spending a nice holiday in the middle of simply spectacular gardens and staffed by family looking staff.
Thank you very much everyone, see you soon if God wants.

This was our 3rd time in Las Terrenas. Las Palmas was the best accommodation that we've ever had. The cottage was very homy, cozy and clean. It had absolutely all accommodations including kitchen utensils. It is only 5 min walk from the beach. Cottages are very private and surrounded by a beautiful garden. Service was superb. Our host made sure that we had all we needed. Unlike most places Las Palmas has room service. I would highly recommend this place.

Las Terrenas Feb 2010 – 1 Week
The adventure of 5 Gringos who went for my 40th B-Day bash.
We will start with where we stayed. We rented 2 Villas in Las Palmas Residence. Not to be mistaken with Las Palmas Al Mar. The difference between the two is that Residence is off a little side road and not right off the main strip such as Al Mar. Al Mar has a pool and offers A/C for an additional price. Lap Palmas Residence has an amazingly clean establishment. They have 12 buildings divided into 2 Villas each allowing for 24 villas on the property. They have communal BBQ and Pizza oven which can be reserved the day before (You must supply BBQ briquettes and such). The villas themselves are quite spacious and well maintained. They all have 2 floors (2 Singles upstairs) and one Double downstairs. Both a Toilet and shower on both levels. The cleaning happened Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (None on Weekends). A little key to the wise is bring your own toilet paper as this seems to be a luxury in this country. The lady who works the front desk in the morning/early pm on weekdays only can speak a few languages (French, English, Spanish) The rest of the staff is 100% Spanish. The fact that there is no pool nor a/c was never an issue. First off you are 5 mins away from some of the nicest beaches I’ve seen in a longtime and due to being so close to the ocean the breeze is nice and add that to the incredibly powerful ceiling fans and the fresh night air, you will never been lacking the A/C unit. For the price, this place is hard to beat. Just head down to the beach across the road, follow the beach going right/east and you’ll stumble upon the point of Punta Popi beach and this had to be one of the nicest close range beaches we’d seen hands down. The reefs are close enough to the shore to do some very easy snorkeling as well. We had tried Playa Las Ballenes but thought it had much more coral drifting in (So you step on it often in the water) and because of it’s location, there were cold undertows coming every so often. BUT, it is VERY quite there. Playa Punta Popi has more music and and cars/motos driving by. But the beaches are beautiful and clean and safe. (Yes there are mentioned of garbage coming to shore after a very wet period but we did not experience that as it never rained for us)
Food
To all our surprise and from what we had heard through others before coming down, the food was in fact incredibly good. Now I know this has a lot to do with Las Terrenas and its wealth of Ex-Pats living here. You can easily see the Italian, French and American influence in LT. We ate Pasta, Pizza, Seafood, Local food and not once did we ever complain. I think our largest complaint is that they have no concept on over easy eggs (They always cook the yolk through). But one of the luxuries of staying in a villa is we had the ability to make our own breakfasts via grocery shopping at Super Marcado Lindos. Pizza Coco and Casa Azul both make different but very tasty pizzas. Heck I had a calzone that had an egg in it (Oddly enough the first leaky egg all week). Seafood was had at the strip where Paco Cabana, Syro are. Great quality, well presented and comparably to our own country, reasonably priced for what you get.
Drinking/Clubs
Logically we were 5 guys so this is an area where we excelled at. When you first enter into town you are greeted by an Ex-German pat called Peter who owns Rockin Pirata bar. It’s LOUD! But he plays classic American rock which was nice and his mixed drinks are insanely filled with liquor He also serves El Presidente Grande for 100 Pesos. Something you don’t see in other bars (They only have smaller bottles and can charge upto 150 pesos for them) You will always recognize Peter as his catch line is AYE AYE AYE AYE AYE AYE AYE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tell him Peter from Canada says hello while pointing at the Quebec License plate which is found right above the bar where he stands. He’ll remember me quite well Next to Pirata is the infamous La Bodega. This seems to be the most common location for both Locals, Ex-Pats, travelers and locals from other cities. Now I have to be honest and say this place bothers the hell out of me. First off it’s loud… But EVERYTHING IS LOUD IN LT…. But they decided to put tables and chairs to accommodate dwarves!!! We are all over 6 feet tall and we felt as if our knees where at our chins the whole time. Also doesn’t help the fact that “Things” drop out of your pant pockets so much easier too. Yes this is a very popular hangout for Moto Conchos and working girls (So is Pirata).
So we were more in tune with a different bar area called Pueblo de los Pescadores (Old Fisherman Area). It’s a long strip of bars/restaurants lining each side of the road. It is EASILY walk able, but if need be use a Moto Concho (Just realize that during the day, a Moto Concho should only be 50 Pesos and at night should only be 100 Pesos – Even if you are 2 onboard) go for it. In this strip you will find the large North American Style Hip/Hop house music club called GAIA. I find this place is awesome on Fridays and Saturdays as the top floor which is a rooftop style area all opened aired is available to the public. Next would be El Toro (They have changed names but everyone still calls it El Toro) This is a local dance club where you see/hear Bachata and the latest DR top 10 Spanish music. You will find many locals here and many working girls as well, but quite pretty and great eye candy.
There is another club right next to it named Como Tuva (Or something close to that) This place seems to harbor many tourists and ex-pats. They play more American style music (Heard Black Eyed Peas there 100000 X) People there seem to enjoy the drinks and dance on the beach right behind the place (All these bars have an access to the beach). Further up you’ll find a nice peaceful lounge called El Mosquito where they serve up higher end exotic drinks for a premium of course. It’s run by a very nice French woman who has employed two very fun and hot girls. Valencia from Italy, and Alexandrea from France. They are all sweethearts and they treated us like kings the whole time we went there. (I MISS YOU GALS)
There are a few more bars as well, where we went but these were the ones that really stuck out. The average drink costs around 200 Pesos. The beer runs around 100-150 pesos (For regular size) unless you hang at Pirata. I would suggest using a Moto Concho to head back home if it is early in the morning (3 ~ 5am) we walked almost every day and ran into some interesting adventures. Some with the local police, who apparently can have fun with tourists and try to get some $$$ out of them. So for 100 pesos don’t bust your head over it. Just grab one and go home. But all in all I must admit that I never felt unsafe EVER… Granted we were 5 guys all over 6 feet thus experience may change based on who you are. Please be advised as well that most of the Conchos are also drug dealers or tied to one. They will try and sell you some if you have the look or style of course. If you REALLY need to know how that works send me a Private Tell and I can explain that as well so you don’t get taken for.
LOCAL SERVICES
The first thing I suggest you do is dropping your extra cash, plane tickets, passports at a safety deposit box which can be found at Fort Knox right in the El Paseo mall in the center of the beach town across from the Cemetary. His name is Herve Brousset and he will charge you a minimal fee for the rental and you can access it between 8am~1pm then 3pm~8pm Most businesses run on these hours due to Siesta time!!!! Herve has also lived there for over 15 years and is a wealth of information about the area and the attractions. He is also the DJ at GAIA some nights. He also is a Cambia (Money Exchange) so if in a pinch he can change currency for you but you can find Cambiars up the road a little that offer slightly better exchange. Up to you.
Mundo Puro cigars.
Just up around the street from El Paseo. Phillippe owns this place and is yet another amazing individual. His cigars are downright amazing. Made on-site by two very smiley Dominican girls. 50 Pesos gives you a very decent cigar in different sizes of course. His premiums start at 100 Pesos each. A little further up the street you’ll find a Cambiar that offers very good exchange rate. An internet café which charges 25 pesos for ½ hour. As well as right next door to that you’ll find an international calling center so you can call home for 6 pesos a minute. And much further up the street you will find Super Marcado Lindo where you can find all alcohol and food related materials for quite less than you can find around the “Touristy Area”. Also keep in mind, if you do a large purchase (a few bags worth) they will deliver it anywhere for you free of charge (We tipped the driver 50 Pesos).
El Limon Waterfalls.
(WEAR HIKING SHOOWS/BOOTS)We took the Horse Trek via SANTI (Yet another great Person) who was directed to us via Herve from Fort Knox. This is not a trip for people who are faint at heart I find. The horses aren’t what you are used to first off. They look sad but are strong as oxen. You take the horse through rivers and up a mountain. Once at the top, you are greeted by salesmen trying to pawn their wares on you. Then you go downhill by foot. PAY ATTENTION – If it rained earlier or if there was a heavy morning dew, be careful as the walk down can be quite tricky. It is so easy to slip and in some places a slip could be a very long fall down rocks. Once you get down the steep trek, you are now faced with crossing a river. I would suggest pack some flip flops in your bag or some water sandals so you can swap from your hikers to these to cross the river. You can keep them on after the river as you will be VERY close the the end of the line waterfall. Then you must do the entire trek backwards. So a nice steep climb back up to the horses and then all the way down the hill with the horses who seem to have minds of their own sometimes ROFL. The trek comes inclusive with a meal which we had decided to have after the trek and that turned out to be a brilliant idea.
I am sure I could keep going about LT as we experienced so much in so little time. I wish I had known many of these things before heading down. But there is so much to learn and so little time to learn it. So I hope this helps some folks out who are planning on heading down to LT for a visit.
Cheers!

We arrived and the two hairdryers were not working, the shower towels and toilet paper were not there, the TV was written as being in the room but in reality there was not even 1 out of 2 rooms, the shower without a shower head, the entrance door it wouldn't close, the fridge was constantly leaking water and the kitchen was flooding, we said it several times a day, we dried it and after a while it flooded again. They took away the fridge saying they would change it, too bad it never arrived. After 3 days of complaints they changed our room, too bad it didn't have hot water, what did they do? They told us to go back to the previous room and only take a shower there and then return to our "new" room, but is something like this possible by paying good money??
Furthermore, the breakfast is quite good, too bad the photos are not true, there is only tea and coffee, bread, fruit juice and ham and cheese, non-existent fruit and things run out almost immediately without being replenished, too bad they say that breakfast is between 8 and 11 a.m. but everything is ready, if all goes well, after 8.40 a.m.
Super hotel not recommended, even if we know that we have to adapt, but this way it becomes unlivable!
From a traveler who has traveled quite a bit.
P.S: the workers are very kind and available to solve existing problems in the home.

A clean, quiet bungalow just steps away from a picture postcard beach. Highly affordable, especially during the 'low season' when we went. Doris, the villa manager, takes pride in the beautiful gardens that surround the apartments, with numerous tropical flower species and towering palm trees, with small lizards scampering about (and some personable cats scampering after the lizards!). Each apartment is well maintained, with a cleaning person arriving a couple times a week. The kitchen is well equipped with a stove top cooking area, full size refrigerator, plates, silverware, and such, though the pans & chef knives are only adequate at best if you are a serious cook. You will need to supply most basics, though there was salt, pepper, dish soap & etc.
The villa itself is located just steps from the beach, 120 steps from the entrance by my count. We rented a car but rarely used, instead we walked to the beach or into town. Beaches are clean, water is warm, and waves are mild. About 300 yards to the west is where the fishermen bring in there daily catch. You can try to haggle with them for the best price, though English is not typically spoken. Some rudimentary Spanish is almost a must if you are going to be shopping in Las Terrenas. Everyone, though, was polite & patient with us Americanos. French and a little Italian seemed to be the default languages after Spanish. As far as the food, everything we ate was great. There are numerous pizzarias, a nice French style bakery about a five minute walk from Las Palmas, and the freshest seafood just about everywhere. Our last day after spending hours walking the almost secluded beaches, we stopped at a small restaurant called Paco Mer, a converted fisherman's shanty a few yards from where the fishermen bring in their daily catch. We sat under a palm tree amongst the fishing boats, ate ceviche, drank some Presidentes, all while watching the kite surfers gliding just a few yards ahead of us. I could go on, will just say it was the best vacation ever!
I've been visiting this beach town since 2005 - and keep returning. The laid back beach life, impossibly handsome Dominicans, inevitably smiling, singing and dancing and the mix of Europeans that also found this magic place and have brought French bakeries, good coffee and freshly squeezed passion fruit mojitos to the string of beach front restaurants resurrected from a row of fisherman's shacks...... is just disarming. This is not the resort or big hotel scene that many visitors to the DR experience - this is the real and best of the DR! On the north coast of the Samana Peninsula - (where you'll also find the top rated boutique hotel in the Caribbean!) Las Terrenas takes a bit more effort to get to but well worth it. Some of the finest beaches - Punta Popy to hang out near people and friendly bars and the more remote and stunningly beautiful Playa Coson and Bonita, this coast line is still undeveloped and as Columbus saw it! The humpback whales know it is special and come here for nooky in the winter. Whale watching is a popular activity in season. I just don't want this place to change. I find myself walking around, smiling, singing and dancing.

The hotel is a complex of about 24 semi-detached privately owned villas managed as a hotel. A few of the villas are occupied by the owners or on long term let, but not many. It is possible that the villas are decorated to different standards, but from what I could see they are pretty standard and well decorated and maintained. The property has a kitchen, sitting room and double bedroom with ensuite bathroom on the ground floor with a spacious veranda, and further sleeping space with two single beds and bathroom on an upper mezzanine floor. The standard of furniture is reasonable without being luxurious and the kitchen is supplied with everything needed, except there are absolutely no basics such as salt supplied, if you plan to self cater, you need to bring the basics or be prepared to buy everything in the town.
The gardens are beautifully planned with many flowering bushes. Every morning we would sit on the veranda and to the minute a hummingbird would come and inspect any new flowers. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. Cleaning was only every couple of days but efficient. The position is one block back from the beach, which is no problem. The only criticism I had was there was no car park.
Las Palmas was good value for two, for a family of four it would be superb value.

I was fortunate to make friends with people who were staying here and definitely have it ear marked for my next trip!
Fabulous location about 100m from Punta Poppy, one of the best beaches (there are many), great for swimming, hanging out and great little beach bars. Walking distance to town and all facilites but there's always a motoconcho coming along to give you a ride. There are many good eating places close by.
The Caribbean styled cottages in the delighful garden are so arranged to give privacy. Quite spacious with two bedrooms, one upstairs, one down, each with own bathroom. Lounge room has cable TV and there is DSL connection (if you must!) The verandah was the best place to hang. It was hot in August but ceiling fans kept it comfortable.
Good value especially as they sleep 4. The cottages have a kitchen and the all important refrigerator plus there's a great common barbecue area to socialize with other guests.
The staff were all great and the multi lingual receptionist very helpful.

Great location in Las Terrenas. Love this town for its Europeans and locals. Res. Las Palmas cottages are 2 bedroomed, 2 bath, (one up, one down for privacy) with kitchen , WiFi and fabulous verandah. It is on the best beach in Las Terrenas, lined with bars and restaurants. Safe and secure. Good for singles, couples and families.
